Shevat 24

Zachariah sees the 4 horses of Revelation and meets with the Angel of the Lord under the myrtle trees. A date and a season are mentioned. Will this information be helpful to us today?

Zec 1:7 Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which [is] the month Sebat [Shevat], in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,

Zec 1:8   I saw by night, and behold a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that [were] in the bottom; and behind him [were there] red horses, speckled, and white.

Zec 1:9   Then said I, O my lord, what [are] these? And the angel that talked with me said unto me, I will show thee what these [be].

Zec 1:10   And the man that stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, These [are they] whom the LORD hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth.

Zec 1:11   And they answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sits still, and is at rest.

Zec 1:12 Then the angel of the LORD answered and said, O LORD of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years?

In this passage, we learn certain things about the timing:

It was the 2^nd year of Darius – the new

“administration” or king was settled into power.

It was the 24^th day of Shevat. In 2010, this would be equivalent to February 8^th. So, it is now winter.

The horses had been walking to and fro through out the earth, but now seem stationary.

70 years (threescore and ten years) has passed for Jerusalem.

Myrtle trees are in the peaceful scene, representative of the Feast of Tabernacles, part of the high holy days in the Fall.

Meaning for today?

Whatever rulers are in power will be comfortably in position before the horses do anything else. There may also be significant change in ruler ship.

Shevat means “rod”, meaning that it’s a time of ‘judgment’, an allusion to Rosh HaShanah, and the myrtle trees represent the High Holy Days in the Fall.

So, Shevat and the myrtle trees (horses at rest) either represent

a. a scene after the 4 horse mission is complete, or

b. a scene immediately before the 4 horses are released.

Israel was officially re-born in 1948. 70 (threescore and ten) years from that date will be 2018.

Jacob’s trouble will last 3 ½ years. So, the horses would possibly ride either by 2014, or after 2018?

There had been one warning before that, about 3 months earlier. This would have been the month of Cheshvan- the month immediately after the Fall Feasts.

Zec 1:1 In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying,

Zec 1:2   The LORD hath been sore displeased with your fathers.

With other events preceding the horses, they are finally released between 2 mountains of brass by Chapter 6:

Zec 6:1 And I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came four chariots out from between two mountains; and the mountains [were] mountains of brass.

Zec 6:2   In the first chariot [were] red horses; and in the second chariot black horses;

Zec 6:3   And in the third chariot white horses; and in the fourth chariot grisled and bay horses.

Comparison to Revelation

The order of release in Zachariah is : red, black, white and grisled

The order of release in Revelation is : white, red, black, and grisled

The first 3 horses are in different order, but the end result in both is death (grisled).

There are 2 historical events, with one foreshadowing the other, with some differences in circumstances, but also similarities.

General thoughts:

I wonder if history will repeat itself, or show a similar pattern.

In scripture, there are no meaningless details.

There is a reason for Shevat 24, and the reference to the 8^th Hebrew month.

If true, in some year in the next 8 years, there will be a warning first in the month of Cheshvan, which is around October, or after the Fall Feasts, not during them.

Then, if true, there would be another event about 3 months later, in the month of Shevat, which is around February, indicating the release of the horses.

A leader with a significant role to play, possibly Persian, as represented by Darius, will be in his second year of rule.

Darius came to power when Belshazzar was deposed after the famous Writing On The Wall incident.

Belshazzar is the King of Babylon before the advent of the Medes and Persians.

Will there be another change in power structure in the Medo-Persian empire before the horses are released?

Or will the current king of Babylon (Iraq) be deposed, and replaced by a Persian king? Will Iran invade the unstable country of Iraq after the US forces pull out?

The 4 horse release will be confirmed when we see war coming from the “mountains of brass,” not another area.

For reasons I give in the post below, this appears to be war between Israel and Iran.  I cannot say who will initiate it, or act first, but Iran will be the cause of it.
