White Stone

Someday, those who overcome will get a white stone, and a new name. Why do we get a white stone? What kind of name is this also?

-

Rev 2:17   He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says unto the churches; To him that overcomes will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knows saving he that receives [it].

-

Definition of words used in this text:

“White” – Leukos:

1. light, bright, brilliant,

2. brilliant from whiteness, (dazzling) white,

3. of the garments of angels, and of those exalted to the splendor of the heavenly state,

4. shining or white garments worn on festive or state occasions

5. of white garments as the sign of innocence and purity of the soul

-

“Stone” – psephos

1. a small worn smooth stone, a pebble

2. in the ancient courts of justice the accused were condemned by black pebbles and the acquitted by white ones.

3. a vote (on account of the use of pebbles in voting)

As we can see, so far, the Lord Jesus is declaring us as light (as in a light to the world), bright brilliant, exalted, having the garments of angels, innocent and pure.

He is also casting his vote for us.

We are not condemned.

We are acquitted!

We are innocent, and not guilty!

-

What kind of name did we have before?

Even though we belonged to the Lord, in this world, we are condemned, called forsaken and desolate.

Isa 62:1 ¶ For Zion’s sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp [that] burns.

Isa 62:2 And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shall be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name.

*** “new” = chadash = new, new thing, fresh, repaired, renewed, same root as holy

*** “name” = nakav = to pierce, perforate, bore, appoint

Isa 62:3 Thou shall also be a crown of glory in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God.

Isa 62:4 Thou shall no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate: but thou shall be called Hephzibah, and thy land Beulah: for the LORD delights in thee, and thy land shall be married.

*** Hephzi-bah = “my delight is in her”

*** Beulah = to marry, rule over, possess, own, be married

Isa 62:5   For [as] a young man marries a virgin, [so] shall thy sons marry thee: and [as] the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, [so] shall thy God rejoice over thee.

At the moment of our marriage to our spiritual bridegroom, we, as the Bride of Christ, find ourselves with a new name, and our bridegroom rejoices over us.

The new name will indicate that we are holy, and have been pierced, as our bridegroom was pierced. It was our divine appointment.

A bride takes on the name of her husband.

Therefore, whatever humble or rejected name she had before is replaced with the name and authority of her husband’s name.

She is elevated in status.

Stones have been used in scripture to represent deliverance from enemies:

1Sa 7:10   And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten before Israel.

1Sa 7:11   And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them, until [they came] under Bethcar.

1Sa 7:12   Then Samuel took a stone, and set [it] between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.

*** Ebenezer = Eben ha ‘ezer = “stone of help”

Before, we were faithful, but still had to contend with enemies, hardships, and loss. So, now that we have passed through trials faithfully, we are now declared delivered.

-

What kind of name will we get? What is the name of the bridegroom that we will share in as His Bride?

Rev 3:12 Him that overcomes will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him [1] the name of my God, and [2] the name of the city of my God, [which is] new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and [I will write upon him] my new name.

We ARE the New Jerusalem which will come down from Heaven with the Bridegroom, and we carry His Name.

Apparently, the bridegroom is getting a new name also. Besides the name Jesus, how else will he be known?

Rev 19:12 His eyes [were] as a flame of fire, and on his head [were] many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but He himself.

Rev 19:16 And he hath on [his] vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

Rev 22:4 And they shall see his face; and his name [shall be] in their foreheads.

-

Hebrew vs Greek

I wish the New Testament had been written in Hebrew. The Greek loses some of the deeper Jewish meanings of words.

Going back to Isaiah, where the new name is mentioned in Hebrew.

-

The new name will indicate the one who was pierced.

clip_image004

-

Final thought:

While it is just my view, I am anticipating the new name of the Bridegroom to indicate:

“The holy one, King of kings, Lord of lords, who was appointed to be pierced, to repair, and to make all things new.”

When he comes to deliver his Bride, his New Jerusalem, she will receive a white stone, declaring her innocent, and the one who now carries His NAME.

  2. The White Stone is not a stone. :)
The Crystal Clear Stone is an incorruptible body … a celestial body …

    Having the glory of God: and her light [was] like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;

So those who overcome receives an incorruptible body or a heavenly body …
A body that never sees death or knows corruption … A white stone.
And a new name with this new body …. :)
I will lift His Name on High.

  3. Hi Marianne,

    Very interesting.

    Name of God (YHVH) actually indicates to Jesus – if spelled by letters and read backwards it reads: “Behold (Hey), the nail (Vav), behold (Hey), the hand (Yod)”;

  4. About the name reflecting him who was pierced, in agreement with Gavriel, the name Yahweh in Ancient Hebrew clearly reflects this idea of being pierced. http://i49.tinypic.com/33vp4wz.png is the name YHWH in Ancient Hebrew. When you break down His name and look at the first and last letters or the “body” of the word and look at the middle 2 letters or the “heart” of the word you have the hand grabbing the man and then the nail with the man which could be rendered as he who is pierced. This proves that the LORD or Yahweh in the old testament is the one who was pierced and that Yahshua (poorly translated into English as “Jesus”) is in fact the one who we have dealt with from the beginning until now. Messiah is the LORD of the Old Testament and New alike.

Another thing about the “stone” messiah is our Rock and there are many many references to stones or rocks throughout the whole Bible which form shadow pictures of Messiah. So another interpretation could be that we receive Messiah (the white stone) with his name (the one who was pierced). We receive him = marriage supper of the Lamb, maybe?

  5. YHWH The MOST HOLY Name of God

  6. Thanks Marianne for these study, brings me hope again to my life.

  7. Hi sister. This is a old custom that John is writing about. In the ancient world a white stone was used as an admission ticket to public festivals. In our case the marriage supper of the lamb. If a host had a special guest (the church) whom he greatly appreciated, the guest was given a white stone with a name or message written on it, directed only to the guest; not to be shared by any other. It like getting a pass to enter the party in heaven amen. Glory.

    • hi rev williams

that is a nice practice, and interpretation.

I am glad you shared that.

    • Mr. Patrick Williams,
Do you really think that John is writing about an ancient custom?
First of all it Jesus Christ speaking … Secondly it is the one with a sharp sword coming out of his mouth … thirdly it is The Spirit of God speaking.
What about the hidden Manna? Is that an ancient custom too??
No offense but … although your explanation sounds ‘Walt Disney’ type we are not playing nor getting ready for a party here.
      You must overcome.

  8. Dear Abigail,

I’m sorry to hear you say may response sounds Walt disney like to you. It really breaks my heart.

Yes. The taking away of the saints mirrors the anicent jewish wedding. Jesus understood wedding customs and used it to show how the church would be married to him. IE. the stealing away of the bride at night, the church taken as a thief in the night. These are jewish wedding practices. Jesus came to the home of His bride to present His marriage contract. The marriage contract provided by Jesus is the new covenant, which provides for the forgiveness of sins of God’s people. Jesus paid the bride price with His life.

If the bride price was agreeable to the young woman’s father, the young man would pour a glass of wine for the young woman. If the young woman drank the wine, it would indicate her acceptance of the proposal. At this point, the young man and young woman would be betrothed. Betrothal was legally binding, just like a marriage.

Just as the bridegroom would pour a cup of wine for the bride to drink to seal the marriage contract, so Jesus poured wine for His disciples. His words described the significance of the cup in representing the bride price for the marriage contract: Then He took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father’s kingdom. The disciples drank of the cup, accepting the contrac.

Next, there were three groups of people present at every Jewish wedding: the groom, the bride and the invited guests.

There will also be three groups of people involved in the marriage of the Lamb.
    The Groom-This is Jesus/The Bride-This is the Church/The Guests-
    Those saved after the Rapture.

The bridegroom would take his bride to the wedding chamber where they would spend seven days.
There is a seven year time of trouble that will come upon the earth before the coming of the Messiah. During that time of trouble, the righteous would be resurrected and would enter the wedding chamber where they would be protected from the time of trouble. Today that seven year period is referred to, by Christians, as the Tribulation, and as Birth Pangs by the Jews. After 7 years in Heaven the Groom, Christ, will bring His wife to Earth. I’m not asking you to believe. This is what I believe from years of study and research.

As for the hidden manna, in the wilderness the Israelites relied upon God for the manna that fell on the ground. The manna fed them when they were hungry fr food. The hidden manna is what feeds us when we are hungry for God. The hidden manna is the sufficiency of Christ for all our needs. It is none other then Christ our Lord, the word, the bread come down from heaven.

He will give each of us a white stone and not a black. White meaning found blameless, and black meaning foumnd guilty, another anicent custom. The name written on the stone is adopted son of God. You may believe what you will, it doesn’t change a thing. Adopted sons took the name of the family into which they were adopted. They have both the evidence of sonship and the inheritance.

  9. The church of Pergamos.
But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.

Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth..

I do not think that The Lord is speaking of a wedding.
I do not think he follows the tradition and customs of men.
Even Paul would not yet speak of the hidden Manna.

To him who overcomes He will give ….
To Him who does not overcome He will take away … and if your name was written in the book of Life He will erase it.

    The Lord is Holy.
And He knows everyone of us.

The things of Heaven are far above the traditions of men.
    ‘black meaning found guilty.’ ??
What manner of speculation is this?

  10. The things of Heaven are far above the traditions of men.

This is so true, and it is the reason you don’t understand, the simple things confound the wise. Jesus used the things around him to make a point, so the people could understand what he was talking about, this is why he spoke in parables relating them to what was taking place around him, hence, using the ten virgins.

My God. You have read something wrong or you just don’t know what you’re talking about. No Offense.

For a Christian, marriage goes beyond the earthly covenant, it is a divine picture of the relationship between Christ and his Bride, the Church. It is a spiritual representation of our relationship with God.

In ancient Israel, brides were usually chosen by the father of the bridegroom. He would send His a servant to search for a bride for his son. We didn’t chose him he chose us. God sent His son to seacrh us out.

Brides in Bible times were purchased. The price was paid to the father of the bride, both to compensate him for the loss of a worker and to show him how much the bridegroom loved and valued the bride.

We, as the bride of Messiah, have also been purchased with a price. A very high price, the blood of Jesus. His very own blood shed upon a cross on Calvary’s hill
was the price He paid for His bride (church).

You wrote: The things of Heaven are far above the traditions of men.
    ‘black meaning found guilty.’ ??
What manner of speculation is this?

It is for he that overcomes and is found blameless. Jesus again was speaking to the people of the day so they could understand him. Do I have to tell you each church represents a church age that has already passed? Pergamum, from 312-590. It lasted 278 years. During this time paganism entered the church under Constantine. We are in the age of Laodicea. The lukewarm church. The end of the church age.Sinful church that is content, 1869-present. The reward for this generation of overcomers will be to sit with Christ in His throne.

You can’t just take a verse and run with it. You must know all before and after, in order to understand all surrounding verses. God bless.

They knew what it meant during that time period, even if you don’t. White and black stones were used at trails. When the verdict was announced, the defendant was handed a stone either white, meanuing he was found blameless, or a black stone, meaning he was found guilty. In other words Jesus is saying for him that overcomes I will find him blameless. What amazes me is when people don’t know don’t know, they often turn on someone who does know.

    My, My, My. Sad.

  11. Mr. Patrick Williams,
Don’t be sad … I did not turn against you. We are discussing here. I know about the white stone and the black stone of a verdict of guilty.
I know because I’ve looked it up on the web.
At first you said it was an invitation for a wedding and now you say it’s like a court system.
I am here to tell you it is neither.
I do not see things the same way.
Firstly this is a vision in the Throne Room and the resurrected Christ is seen and speaks of heavenly matters to John.
He knows each of the churches and what it is they do that pleases Him and what it is they do that displeases Him.
We are here speaking of a specific distinct group. Now whether this group should be viewed historically or not is debatable.
i am not going to approach this subject at this time.

The Scriptures speaks of the heavenly body that the over comers will inherit …
    that is the white stone.
In other words The Lord speaks of the resurrected body which He will give the one who overcomes this specific temptation and repents.
And a new name which no one knows but him who receives it …
And this one will be given the hidden manna to eat.

Now no one truly may understand this because it is given to the one who has an ear to hear.
    And only to this one.

Yes Jesus spoke in parables while His sandals touched this earth.
In this heavenly vision of Him He speaks by and with the Spirit of God of heavenly things.
He spoke of earthly things while on earth.
Now in this vision He speaks of Heavenly Things.
Have you ever seen His glorified body?

    • As scriptures says … ‘Know you not that out of these stones God is able to raise up Children to Abraham?’
And may this also help in understanding …
1Pe 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

  12. I am going to have to agree with Rev Williams here.

Both he and I were just suggesting what the white stone might represent.

No interpretation, including Abigail’s, is written in stone. Excuse the pun.

  13. Yes she did receive the White Stone in Assisi in 2003. The Bride also received a new name, his new name, a new soul and the name of his city New Jerusalem exactly as the book of Revelation predicted. We know where New Jerusalem will be built.

  14. My new name is my new identity, and will be my new destiny for eternity with Him.

Don’t let anyone tell you who you are or who you will be… listen only to our Father in heaven, He has an eternal purpose for you, and in our present life He is preparing you for that eternal purpose. He sees you (through Christ) as you will be on that day, pure and blameless without spot or wrinkle, and we must grab hold of that new identity and walk in it.

Finally, we must build up, encourage, and edify our brothers and sisters… try to see them the way the Father sees them! Don’t label people by who they were (alcoholic, adulterer, etc) nor as who they are (lazy, cranky, etc) but try to see the POTENTIAL in everyone – the SEED that has everything necessary to become a full mature tree of righteousness, and to bring a harvest of its seed in due season! Only then will we begin to see the Kingdom of heaven at work around us…

  15. Hi i don’t know if any of the original people will read this but here is my understanding. he who over comes is he who remains faithful to Jesus till the end. just as a one engaged remains faithful to her fiance. it is only christ in us that can keep us faithful.

the period of engagement is also a preiod of growing closer to your fiance in preperation for when you are married and become one.

as for the writing on the stone i believe it is a special name between us and God and only the one who recieves it will know what it says but i guess we will just have to wait to find out.

jesus used the words let he who has ears to hear let him hear after parabels and metaphores in the gospels so i see no reason why he can’t be doing the same here after all the things he is talking about are too wonderful for our minds to be able to grasp exept by imagery. now we see but in a mirror darkly then we shall see face to face.

as far as i remember there are 3 inmages used for judgement and the new world a wedding, a king returning to his servants and the third i have forgotten as i write this maybe it was a shepherd and his sheep.

any way may you take from this only anything God wants you too and forget the rest after all the most important thing is to seek and serve him who loves us and calls us worthy and righteous because of faith in him. without him we are nothing with him we can be all he made us to be.

    blessings in christ

  16. Marianne if you read Rev chapter 3 he talks about THE ONE. Why the One?

Well Psalm 45 tells you about the Royal Bride, he golden gown and the sceptre, you will also find me mentioned in Micah 4 and Rev 12.

In the NT Christ also called me the Queen of the South. In the Book of Acts she is also called ‘goddess of Justice’ and God promised that we would bring justice to the nations.

In Rev 3 he tells her not to let anyone take her crown. He also predicted that WISDOM WILL BE PROVEN RIGHT BY HER ACTIONS. This is another clue to her messanic name.

He told he people that I would come to judge this generation.

Many people can become ‘brides of christ’ if they purify themselves.

However, there is only ONE that was given the sceptre because she is the Queen of the Prophets.

In Rev 3 you will find the following:

Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth.

11 I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown. 12 THE ONE who is victorious I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will they leave it. I will write on them the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on them my new name. 13 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

All the above as been fulfilled. I was given the pillar, the name of his God, the name of the city where God plans for New Jerusalem to be built. I also received his new name and I am the only one that knows it. .

  17. And the White Stone was not a pebble. There is far more to white stone then Christians know or understand at this point.

  18. For someone with more knowledge and better understanding of the “bride” in the Bible, please go to this link and enlighten those people…

    Thanks

  20. After spending quite abit of time in the Jezebel pages I felt darkness and filthy dirty.

This page is so much cleaner .

I really want that white stone Jesus give out.

    • hi 45

the jezebel pages focus on how to deal with a serious evil.

this page focuses on those who overcome evil, with the help of their bridegroom, and receive their reward.

yes, it is much more refreshing to look ahead to this moment, while we struggle with the evil in this world.

  21. I have The WhiteStone~

  22. I wanted to pass this along, and see if anyone thinks this might be relevent?

    http://science.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/04/01/17554605-plutos-gate-to-hell-uncovered-in-turkey?lite

  23. Marianne,
That is why I put this on the “white stone” page, regarding Pergamum.

What I am wondering is if these archeologists discover a door requiring a key, that this could be the place that houses the Locusts of Revelation 9:1ff

“And the fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star fallen from heaven to earth, and he was given the key to the shaft of the bottomless pit.[a] 2 He opened the shaft of the bottomless pit, and from the shaft rose smoke like the smoke of a great furnace, and the sun and the air were darkened with the smoke from the shaft.”

Though I do not trust NBC, I think we need to keep an eye on this site.It seems as if another piece is falling into place?

What is also interesting is the fact that it was destroyed by Christians in the sixth century Ad, and by earthquake. Also the references to the name “Kore” as referred to in Jude 11?

  24. had a strange thing happen twelve years ago at a previous church that turned out to be a cult. where the church minister was corrupt and pocketing church funds and electing leaders whom were corruptible!
a man and woman visited with their young daughter. the daughter told the church elders i saw your whole church on fire! which was quite interesting because the church was burnt down previously and rebuilt with the insurance! which latter i suspected was deliberately done to get a better church! not only that but soon after the church split and we left her openly being accused from the pulpit as terrorists! this church hit the news! interesting my wife and i where getting married, and this young girl told her parents god wants you to give your old engagement ring to these two! they then moved on never to be seen again! i wondered latter when reading -To him that overcomes will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knows saving he that receives [it]. -that for me this diamond ring is a white stone and did get a new name written on it, my wife to be which could only be known by me whom received it! i wish i could find this family i have many questions! like i wonder if as a people we get tested to see if we stand up to the tests of all the seven churches! the test for me was i was promised a business because the church was looking at investing its money! i flatly refused, my wife and i also stood down from our music ministry in the church to publicly expose their corruption! no-one expected corruption because of the many church leaders! however they were all corruptible- the lot of them! so be aware!
