Backslidden

Are you backslidden?

Thoughts: by Rev. Patrick Williams

http://breadandwineministries.com/

I pondered the following today:

When sins of the body and of the mind can be indulged in without an uproar in your conscience,  your backslidden condition is certain.

When you can hear the Lord’s name taken in vain, spiritual concerns mocked and eternal issues flippantly treated, and not be moved to indignation and action, you are backslidden.

When you pardon your own sin and sloth by saying the Lord understands and remembers that we are dust, you have revealed your backslidden condition.

When your church has fallen into spiritual declension,  and the Word of God is no longer preached there with power,  and you are still content, you are in a backslidden condition.

Marianne’s note:

If you are backslidden, this is very serious.

Judgment is at the door.

The world has turned evil and dark.

Your time on this earth may be up soon.

Fake Christians and the unsaved sinner do not go to heaven, no matter what your “feel good” church tells you.

Get on your knees and repent sincerely before God.

Accept the salvation of the Lord Jesus, available to you through his atoning death for your sins on the cross.

I pray you make the right choice.

Jesus loves you and so do I.

  1. My “feelgood” church does not tell me to not be aware of my sins. What a wonderful sermon, though, preached by the rector today (his last sermon before retirement) at a funeral of a “pillar of the community”. He described how he lay next to Steve (the dying man) on the bed, and looked up and saw Jesus coming to tae Steve’s hand and take him home. That was amazing to hear in a congregation of hundreds of people, most of whom were not members of that particular church, but most of whom joined in the prayers, including the Orthodox priest. That kind of sermon is odd in a mainline church, but it is not a typical lukewarm mainline church, since all of its leaders preach the gospel, lay and clerical.

I feel there are lots of people who are NOT backslidden, living like wheat among the tares, even in mainline churches.

    • mariel

      you are absolutely right.

not all churches are “feel good”

many are still committed to christ

this post was ONLY for the backslidden

    • Ask Him for a truly repentant heart and He will give it to you. It was ALL Him. I always fail just before the blessing. I never fail to fail. But you know what? I still have hope thanks to Him. Thank you. I hope this encourages someone.

  2. Another excellent article, well done. These times the majority of preachers will not preach on sin or repentance, they appear to believe that their brethren may be offended and that would hurt the churches coffers (bank account). Let me remind them, God is not mocked and neither are true Christians, God loves a repentant heart and hates a proud one.

  3. Thank you for this post. This message is very similar to the message I am trying to present in my study of the Apocalypse.
I read many of your posts, keep up the good work.

  4. This is so true. I know it to be because I am a backslider. I miss my holy intimate encounters with the Holy Spirit. I tell you it is not easy and I ask for prayer of restoration deliverance and healing. Thank you for this awesome reminder of the danger of falling away!
