Blessing Yourself with Yahweh God’s Money

Who is the thief?

Malachi 3:10 is used by ministers to convince people in church to give before the offering.

Ministers imply that it is the people who rob Yahweh God, not the priests.

This is not true.

But the interpretation is used to threaten people into giving.

Look closely:

Robbing God

Malachi 3:

5 And I will come near you for judgment;
I will be a swift witness
Against sorcerers,
Against adulterers,
Against perjurers,
Against those who exploit wage earners and widows and orphans,

Do Not Rob God

8 “Will a man rob God?
Yet you have robbed Me!
But you say,
‘In what way have we robbed You?’
In tithes and offerings.

Who is the robber?

9 You are cursed with a curse,
For you have robbed Me,
Even this whole nation
.

**note ; If the nation is being robbed as well, then the nation is a victim, not the wrongdoer.

The Promise

10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,
That there may be food in My house,
And try Me now in this,”
Says the Lord of hosts,
“If I will not open for you the windows of heaven
And pour out for you such blessing
That there will not be room enough to receive it.

So what came before this reprimand? Go earlier into Malachi.

Malachi 2 New King James Version (NKJV)

Corrupt Priests

2 “And now, O priests, this commandment is for you.

2 If you will not hear,
And if you will not take it to heart,
To give glory to My name,”

Says the Lord of hosts,
“I will send a curse upon you,
And I will curse your blessings.
Yes, I have cursed them already,
Because you do not take it to heart.

7“For the lips of a priest should keep knowledge,
And people should seek the law from his mouth;
For he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts.

8 But you have departed from the way;
You have caused many to stumble at the law.
You have corrupted the covenant of Levi,”
Says the Lord of hosts.

9 “Therefore I also have made you contemptible and base
Before all the people,
Because you have not kept My ways
But have shown partiality in the law.”

Malachi 1

6 “A son honors his father,
And a servant his master.
If then I am the Father,
Where is My honor?
And if I am a Master,
Where is My reverence?
Says the Lord of hosts
To you priests who despise My name
.
Yet you say, ‘In what way have we despised Your name?’

7 “You offer defiled food on My altar,
But say,
‘In what way have we defiled You?’
By saying,
‘The table of the Lord is [
c]contemptible.’

8 And when you offer the blind as a sacrifice,
Is it not evil?
And when you offer the lame and sick,
Is it not evil?

Offer it then to your governor!
Would he be pleased with you?
Would he accept[
d] you favorably?”
Says the Lord of hosts.

Not much has changed in several thousands of years.

Man is corrupt, especially those in power or leadership positions.

clip_image004

What I hear a lot from pastors is about how Yahweh God is blessing them. They are making huge salaries, which come from the tithes and offerings.

They may be “blessed,” but it is the wrong way.

They are taking money that is for the service of God, and they route the money into their own pockets, blessing themselves, not God.

The demand tithes from the poor and widows, just like pointed out in Malachi 3:5.

clip_image006

The offerings made by the priests (pastors, etc.) were/are polluted, because they offer substandard offerings, while keeping the good items for themselves.

clip_image007

To be fair, it is not only pastors who can rob God, but the average person as well.

Money is a blessing but also a responsibility.

You have to look at who is getting the money given, and see if they are worthy.

Scripture warns against giving to the rich. In doing so, you will make yourself poor.

One who oppresses the poor to increase his wealth and one who gives gifts to the rich–both come to poverty. Proverbs 22:16

You can fail God and yourself by giving or receiving unwisely or selfishly.

Look inside yourself, and examine your methods and motives.

Let them be pure before Yahweh God.

Make changes where needed.

  2. Hi Marianne ‘
I like so many have supported TV ministries over the years, as I said like many. But one comes to mind no names’ but when a guest came on and told viewers he was prophet and then said to give a certain amount relating to bible verse number’ and you will be blessed and receive a blessing from God. But when I didn’t have the amount that was requested, I began to think, if you haven’t got it, you haven’t got it! So I am dubious now when they ask for money. (Most do.) You give a donation, they send you a news letter and enclose a form to give another donation. I think this is where discernment comes in to play. I also believe if God puts on your heart to give to someone you know it’ Great topic as well.

  3. Marianne, what is considered the storehouse?
    Thank you.

remember the OT was for jews. any tithe was presented to the jewish priest, for the purpose of the temple sacrifices in Jerusalem only,or other needs, like the poor or emergencies, like during a famine ( storehouse etc) . it was a separate building from the temple.

there was NO provision made for gentile pastors of modern times, who are unofficially claiming the tithes as their own.

      here is some discussion

  4. Marianne, Thanks for the post. We have talked about this for years & I am now thinking a different way than in the past but still on the “fence”!
I know the ” “christianese” jargon and concept regarding tithing can be faulty especially when associated with greed & abuse of funds. Of course we know there are many “robbers” in the churches. But I have seen, personally, where a church is genuinely using the tithe money & offerings to keep the ministries going & growing. We give to honor God by giving, right? Yes, it’s all His money but it is to be given to further the Kingdom of God, not to crooks, why do people do that???!! Is the 10% really required as you say churches claim & many struggle with? Yes, it was for Jews in the old testiment & the new testiment is for Jews & Gentiles. So where in the bible does it say not to give 10% as many ponder?
The church I am referring to above, has grown to having a Christian school, started with pre school & kindergarden then grew to a full high school over time as money by the congregation was saved up. Many parents, etc, volunteer but there are also paid teachers, etc, and of course expenses for learning materials, building maintance, taxes, etc. The entire church property, with the main church, youth ministry building with offices, and the school are all owned by the church. This property was bought outright, many years ago through tithes & offerings from the congregation, no bank loans or financing were used & no one twisted their arms!
We know many people can’t work for free (!). The growing project supplied jobs for Christians and the opportunity to teach their families to know and live a Christian life from a very young age. Their own congregation pays for this “willingly” through tithes & offerings.. The Pastors make an average salary depending on time and level of ministry, no one is rich!
No one could ever rightfully criticize these people’s tithes as used for greed or evil by the church, because they ARE the church!
But what really IS the tithe truth? I may still be conflicted!! Is it really 10% of your first fruits? In the old testament they gave livestock and crops, which in modern times is money, that seems to be fair but the bible doesn’t say give money right?! So can we assume it is fraudulent biblical concept? Giving should be an act of joy not begrudgingly and we are not under the law of the old testament. Many teachings of the new testament are based on the old testiment & some maintain that this is the same with tithing but still not for greedy uses, of course. How would a church set up by the local community survive without a source of income? The idea is an “offering” given to God in which He will give many fold back to the giver as it furthers the Kingdom of God. Many still believe it is 10% but not just because a Pastor says so. If one is a fool to give to the to robbers then that is another issue completely. God expects Christians to discern, not just follow a foolish herd. If you do it once it’s a mistake but to continue is he behavior of a fool, God will not honor your giving…The particular church I have mentioned above has an annual report of all tithes and offerings, by name, date & amount. The report documents where the money goes. You can chose which category to tithe or give an offering to, for example; missionary, building/maintanence funds, general funds, youth ministry, etc, etc. Any church member can review the report any time. But this church DOES teach the 10% of the first fruits offering. I can’t seem to really understand the wrong of it if the money is used responsibly and there is transparency. The congregation is raising up wonderful children of God through the children and youth ministries and school. It teaches the real biblical truths regarding who women and men are in God, not the typical patriarchal false teachings. God has truly blessed this congregation, and these are average income people who work hard & are passionate about living a Godly life.
I know many people just give what they feel they can, not the 10%…but where in the bible does it say God will not bless you for giving 10% to legitimate ministries?? Would it be a sin for the believers and a sin if churches to accept it? 💜

  5. Hi Marianne,
I don’t see my previous comment, it should be just before this one, do you see it?
I’ve been praying about tithing for quite some time now as my life could use the blessings but I don’t attend any churches here.. After writing my last post I looked up scriptures in the New Testement regarding tithing and any scriptures telling us we dont need to tithe 10% anymore or we should continue as in the old Testement. I found Mathew 23:23, Jesus says:
23 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former…
This scripture shows the continuance of tithes in the New Testiment….there may be more but I need mire time to search!

  7. Many big ministries have become cash cows.

  8. After a lengthy study, I’ve decided in my heart that I will not support the lifestyle of a pastor or his family, period…and end of discussion … they need to get a job like everyone else … this goes far beyond that of brainwashing and manipulation to criminal acts that appear to be legitimized or normalized somehow in American Christianity culture and along with that they have their tax exemption which I staunchly oppose … missionaries deep in the mud and trenches reaching out to the lost and oppressed outcasts and minorities on the fray of society is entirely different as Lew A. describes wonderfully in his arguments on tithe law over at his blog … his article along with your teaching Marianne and then my own personal studies opened my eyes to the truths on this hotly debated subject of the tithe lie … and then there are my raw experiences that aided in my decision as well … wolves and deceivers, that’s all they are !

    • Magdeline

I agree, which is why i do not support churches and ministries now.

it seems like most of us learn the hard way, and after much loss of money,

I wish I had back all the money I donated.
