Calling on the NAME of the LORD

So, which name did they use?

Once Jesus / Yahshua came, those that were his followers called upon his name when in need.

But calling upon the name of the LORD is also an Old Testament practice.

What name did the ancient Hebrews use before Jesus / Yahshua?

Old Testament – name used?

And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the LORD. Gen 4:6

I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the LORD. Psalm 16: 13

I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD. Psalm 16:17

For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the LORD, to serve him with one consent. Zep 3:9

We see the same reference in the New Testament

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10: 13

Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours: 1 Cor 1:2

So…. Did the NAME of the LORD change from the old testament to the new testament.???

In the new testament, we see examples of both calling upon the name of the “Lord,” and calling upon the name of “Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Where is the name of Jesus / Yahshua in the Old Testament?

Did the ancient Hebrews call upon the name of Jesus, as the name used?

Or, did the ancient Hebrews use a different name?

If yes, then there are two “Lords.”

It would seem consistent, if people were going to call upon the “name of the Lord” throughout the bible, they would use the same name.’

What Strong’s tells us about the name of Jesus:

              Root Word: From יְהֹוָה (H3068) and יָשַׁע

We see the use of a FORM of “haya” in Exd 3: 13-14, not haya itself:

This is the translation in most bibles, except the Hebrew one:

And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?

And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

But

is actually future tense, and reads, “I shall be that I shall be.”

I AM in Hebrew is “ani” (A-N-Y = letters)

So Exd 3:14 SHOULD read:

And God said unto Moses, I SHALL BE THAT I SHALL BE: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I SHALL BE hath sent me unto you.

So, God (Elohim) is a general name, who says his name is Eh-yeh (AHYH) (“I shall be”), not haya (to breathe).

Interestingly, God (Elohim) does not even say his name is YHVH, but YHVH is present in the bush along with Elohim (Eh-yeh). Both Elohim and YHVH speak to Moses.

Or God has more than one name?

GOD can have different titles, but it seems logical that he only have one personal name.

Or , am I wrong?

So, if Eh-yeh is God’s (Elohim’s) name, because he said so, how does the expression “YHVH” fit into this scenario?

Eh-yeh is AHYH

The difference between these two “names” is V and A….both have YH..H

A means “leader/ strength” which implies the Father God, to me.

Y means “nail” which implies the Son of God, to me.

Why does YHVH predominate throughout the Old Testament text, when God said his name was Eh-yeh (AHYH)??

The puzzle

Maybe the ancient Hebrews called upon the name of the Father Ehyeh, even though the YHVH predominates, and the Christians called upon the name of the Son YHVH.????

Today, Jews do not pronounce the YHVH, but we do not know how long this practice goes back in time. They just use the term “Hashem,” which means “the name.” So apparently, they do not use the name (Ehyeh) that Elohim said was His actual name.

I wonder, why is that?

Was Elohim wasting his time telling his name, since the name YHVH was going to be used instead, and the name Ehyeh (AHYH) was going to be ignored.?

No one prays to or calls upon the name of Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh ( I shall be that I shall be)

Why?

They use Yahweh, Yahovah, or YHVH or “Hashem.”
