Dark Places of the Earth

What are these dark places?

Places of cruelty

Psalm 74:20

Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty.

Places of heavy chains

He has set me in dark places, as they that be dead of old.

He hath hedged me about, that I cannot get out: he hath made my chain heavy. Lam 3:6

Dark places also sound like caves

Kings described as trying to run away from God to caves during his wrath:

And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the Lord, and for the glory of his majesty, when he arises to shake terribly the earth..  Isa 2:19

And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; Rev 6: 15

The question is, what meets them there?

Could one dark place also be called the “pit?”

Possible interpretation of dark places

Darkness indicates the absence of light, both physical light, and the light of God.

Hell is described as a dark place, full of cruelty and punishment.

If so, David seemed to know about it.

And he expressed a warning along with it

–

If one broke the covenant, one might end up there, as the warning to keep the covenant immediately precedes the warning about the dark, cruel places.

Psalm 74:20

Have respect unto the covenant: for the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of cruelty.

While the old testament does not specifically mention a hell full of demons and devils, the “dark places” are mentioned, and what is there is “cruel.”

The dark places are not just caves, or holes in the ground.

There is something in them that are cruel.

Then there is the spiritual level.

Not keeping the covenant with God can keep us in spiritual dark places.

Demons do not just live in dark places inside the earth.

They roam the earth, afflicting those who have an open door, due to sin, personal injury, family curses, ignorance of spiritual things, etc.

No one has to wait for the end of life to experience the affliction of demon oppression, or possession.

So hell on earth can precede hell in the afterlife, unless one gets deliverance.

–

Strong powers are there in this life to victimize people who are unaware.

–

While many decide to abandon the “law” (term used by gentiles) / Torah covenant, there is definitely some advantages to keeping it.

The “law,” or really the Torah, is really guidance for our own protection.

It is the first 5 books of the Bible, and the Word of God.

.

While the sacrifice of Jesus / Yeshua abolished the ritual offering for sins, many aspects of what the gentiles call the “law” (Torah/ Word of God) are still in effect, like the 10 commandments, and some others.

And while grace is abundant, disobedience still has its consequences.

So, one can choose to observe the covenant.

Obedience establishes a hedge of protection around us.

–

And one can choose to abandon obedience to the Torah.

This takes down the hedge.

–

Disobedience opens the door to the dark places of cruelty.

The dark places are all around us on the earth, and waiting for us in the next life, if we choose to ignore the covenant and Word of God.
