Don’t Hurt the Oil and Wine !

Is Jesus really talking about 2 liquids?

Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, "A quart of wheat for a day’s wages, and three quarts of barley for a day’s wages, and do not hurt the oil and the wine!" Rev 6:6

This instruction comes in the middle of the description of the black horse of famine.

Why would Jesus say do not touch the oil and wine?

During a famine, people would not care about extras like oil or wine anyhow.

From the description, it appears it is a blight on the worlds grain supply, although it might, and most likely does, include other foods.

When I think of wine, I think of the symbolism of the Holy Spirit, being the new wine. So, the wine represents born again Christians.

This symbolism was used in these passages:

Luke 5:36-37

And he spoke also a parable unto them; No man puts a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new makes a rent, and the piece that was [taken] out of the new agrees not with the old.

And no man puts new wine into old bottles; else the new wine will burst the bottles, and be spilled, and the bottles shall perish.

Acts 2:14 17

But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all [ye] that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:

For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is [but] the third hour of the day.

But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

When I think of oil, I think of olives and the olive tree, a symbol of Israel.

Rom 11: 17, 24

And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert grafted in among them, and with them partake of the root and fatness of the olive tree;

For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural [branches], be grafted into their own olive tree?

Conclusion

If my interpretation is correct, then in the midst of this terrible famine brought by the black horse, there is hope for those who trust in God, and share in the hope of the Messiah.

True believers in Christ already acknowledge Yeshua (Jesus) as Messiah.

Israel will eventually recognize Him and accept Him, when He comes.

So, both will be preserved during this difficult time.

Christians have the “new wine” of the Holy Spirit.

Israel is the oil from the olive tree.
