Fire Is Not Quenched

This concept is repeated in both Isaiah and by Jesus/Yahshua.

Isaiah

Isaiah describes a fate where the corpse /dead body, killed by the Lord, which would attract maggots or worms, is subjected to a fire that never dies.

This could either mean that the dead bodies are so many that the fire burns continuously, or that the corpse is not destroyed, but burns continuously.

Isaiah 66:24

“And they shall go forth and look
Upon the corpses of the men
Who have transgressed against Me.
For their worm does not die,
And their fire is not quenched.
They shall be an abhorrence to all flesh.”

These are not berries. They are worms, rounded up, as head joins tail.

The word for worm above refers to a specific kind, that is used for its scarlet dye in temple garments and fabrics.

Worm (H8438):

The KJV translates Strong’s H8438 in the following manner: scarlet (34x), worm (8x), crimson (1x).

It is our responsibility to keep ourselves pure and holy.

Jesus Warns of Offenses – repeats Isaiah 5 x

He uses the imagery of a lowly worm to compare to the human body and soul, that suffers unceasingly in hell.

Here, he is talking about the sin of child abuse:

Mark 9:

42 “But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea.

43 If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—

44 where

‘Their worm does not die
And the fire is not quenched.’

45 And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame, rather than having two feet, to be cast into hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched—

46 where

‘Their worm does not die
And the fire is not quenched.’

47 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire—

48 where

‘Their worm does not die
And the fire is not quenched.’

Why does he repeat this concept 5 X?

–

Hell, and the endless suffering of the “worm,” must be important.

–

Jesus / Yahshua seems to think hell is important enough to mention it 5 x in one conversation.

Most people rarely give it any thought at all.

This might be a hint from the Lord that we should keep this concept constantly in our minds, or at least daily.

This is our future, if we sin, and do not repent.

–

Hell is not a joke.

The suffering is endless.

I encourage all who have not repented of their sins, and accepted Jesus / Yahshua’s atonement on the cross, to do so quickly, and with great care.

No one is guaranteed tomorrow.

You could die tonight.

Live like this is your last day on earth.

Accept responsibility for your actions and attitudes, and sins.

Turn away from them, reject them, and do good, not evil.
