I Dreamed a Dream

Has life killed our dreams?

If so, can we capture them back at the end?

Lyrics:

I dreamed a dream in time gone by
When hope was high and life worth living
I dreamed that love would never die
I dreamed that God would be forgiving

Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used and wasted
There was no ransom to be paid
No song unsung, no wine untasted

But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they turn your hope apart
As they turn your dreams to shame

And still I dream he’d come to me
That we would live the years together
But there are dreams that cannot be
And there are storms we cannot weather

I had a dream my life would be
So different from the hell I’m living
So different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed

Do not ever give up your dream.

Pursuing it has more value than attaining it.

    • IT was never the leaving, and it was never the arriving,it was the trip on the way,ask any BIKER and he will tell you thats the reason he rides a harley-davidson,its something most people will never understand,ITS also the reason ADOLF HITLER rounded up all the motorcycle people first,he knew they would never go along with his idea of taking over the world……………..

  2. Sadly, this is misplaced inspiration, for several reasons..A followup on poor Susan’s life reveals a newly rich life full of extreme fear and bondage. While her voice was a delightful gift to hear, the words to this song speak of a life without hope, and despair at not attaining the one “dream” the singer (or writer of the song) longed for. It is speaking of a life empty of Christ but full of self-centeredness. Though we are all (at least I am) guilty of living a self-centered life, I am grateful for Christ pointing me in the right direction, daily, hourly, and often minute-by-minute and how blessed I am that I know He cares about me. Without His love, my life might be as dismal and depressing as this song portrays!

  3. I agree pretty much with Wendy, but Happy Christmas anyway! Susan Boyle’s song is one of the best ever, thrilling, I’ve listened to it over and over. But it IS about a time of despair. It comes from the incredibly wonderful musical “Les Miserables”. It is sung in the show by a woman who was abandoned pregnant by her lover and who has no life left but poverty and disease–but she is found and sent to the hospital by the hero of the piece, Jean Valjean, who promises her to take care of the child she is leaving behind, Cosette.

The story of Les Miserables IS a story of redemption, that of Jean Valjean’s, who turns from embittered survivalism to outgoing love for Cosette and the man she loves when she grows up.

PBS showed the 25th anniversary London show, which was just the best musical performance I have ever seen, and I ordered the DVD, which I have not yet watched.

So this whole story, Les Mis, is indeed a story of Christian redemption.
The Catholic channel EWTN happened to have a presentation on it, a review which called it a Catholic story of love and redemption. They called it Catholic because a good bishop saved Jean Valjean from going back to prison, and gave him some very expensive candlesticks to provide him with the means of recovering from his 20 years in prison. To the Catholic commentators, it was a wonderful story of Christian love. They were referring specifically to the new motion picture which debuts today in theaters, directed by Hooper, the wonderful director of The King’s Speech.
I recommend The King’s Speech to you as well. I have watched it twice, and it too is a story of a man helping another man, i.e. King George VI’s speech therapist helping to overcome a childhood stutter…sounds boring but it is not, and it won some Oscars.

If you are alone today, you might watch The KIng’s Speech for uplift.

It is a lonely day for me, sort of “frozen in”, can’t drive on unsafe roads to my son’s house, and later in the day they are going to someone else’s house for Christmas dinner, which they didn’t inform me of earlier. So I will be alone. And hoping for Heaven soon. And for all of you the same.

Boring ugly world, but within it, the love and life of Our Savior!

  4. “Oh My Gosh!” THANK YOU, MARIANNE! Tears started rolling down my face the moment she started singing! FANTASTIC!!!

    “Merry Christmas, EVERYONE!”

  5. This morning I read Romans 1 how God says we should not worship His creations but only Him the Creator. Until people understand this life will always disappoint us if we continue to look to people and things to make us happy. God will never allow anyone to be happy without seeking Him first. People do not know what their day will be like or knows what brings them from one moment to another. Anything is possible with God through Christ Jesus by the power of God’s Holy Spirit nothing else will bring you joy. Read the word everyday and meditate on God’s true words day and night apply them to your life, and this will bring you true joy the world cannot give.

    Romans 1

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”
    God’s Wrath on Unrighteousness

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving,[d] unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.

    Matthew 6
25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

  6. As I heard the stat’s this week. That 115,000 thousand Christian church members are leaving the church EVERY WEEK. It will not be long in America that only a “very few” will be Christians.
I dreamed a dream – That Jesus Christ can still become a reality in men and women’s heart. And know Jesus “”intimately” and really experience the “New Creation” called the “New Birth”. And be delivered from “fairy tales” and doctrines of demons preached by “false prohets” that have taken over the church.
Pastor’s can never lead a person to a “New Creation” when they have never Experienced it themselves.
Yes it’s all about Jesus – I feel burdened and sorrow for the world. All their goals are just Temporary goals in Time. They have no destiny. If we really feel pain in our hearts for them. Lets seek with all our heart and soul and preach and teach the “supernatural” Jesus to them. A Jesus that was not just a man, But also a “QUICKENING SPIRT” as well.
In ages of deceit telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.
It’s only Truth that can set a person free. The world does not believe in an “absolute” anymore because the “Church” does not believe in an Absolute anymore.
    — Joseph was a dreamer – It was a very hard life for him. His satan’s were his brothers. But Joseph stayed true. And it paid off in the end. For the good of all Israel. God bless the dreamers.

  7. “…115,000 every week…” ??? AND, you believe this? Get real! Do you realize that would mean that every three months, more than ONE MILLION would be leaving the “Church!” Since when?

And, “What Church?” The “Catholic Church?”, the “Baptist Church?”, the “Mormon Church?”, etc. And then, where are they going? To “Islam?”, to a different “Church?” OR, are they “just leaving!” And NOT going to “Church” at all?

Sorry…but your numbers just don’t mean anything! Of the people I meet and correspond with…I have seen and “know” that more people are “returning” to their faith in God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Scriptures, than ever before! To me, personally, the numbers you just quoted…sound more like government “propaganda” than anything!

    • Many are leaving the institutional church, and joining the body of Christ. The buildings themselves, many, not all, have become dens of debauchery, greed, excess, and “marketing schemes” The true church is growing by leaps and bounds, but is increasingly being pushed into the wilderness, where the Lord will protect, and refine them to his glory. Amen

Statistics cannot measure this “old time revival”

  8. Bobby — From the years of 1990 to 2,000 – This is a fact that the church had 0 % growth. That was counting every State in USA and every County in the states of USA. NO CHURCH GROWTH – 0% – Duck egg. As many came in the front door the same amout was leaving out the back door of the church. This is a fact –
This census was taken by the “Church of God denominational System” I was their in person on that night when they put out these stats of the churchs in whole of USA.
Have you read the Bible where it says – There will be a great falling away in the last days.
Did you know that over 70% of all Preachers that are coming out of the denominational schools – do NOT believe in the Virgin Birth.
Do you know the 2nd. highest professional people that commit adultery in the U.S.A are Ministers – Doctors are 1st.
There are 1 Billion people alone in the Catholic church system. Probably alot more now.

I have seen many people go to church and said they got Saved. I have watched most all of them quit as well. Cause they was never taught nothing with any substance that brings about a Revelation of Faith. They never did get grounded on the Rock of Revelation by the Word.

Being Born again is a Warfare and the People are bewildered by that.
It takes 3 years they say to shape or mold a Character in children. Well the church has failed in that. Its all about feeling good. Usely after 3 years of church teaching people usely just get a Religious Spirit, or the Pastors Spirit and Do not even read the word. And they are gone before you know it.

The last survey I read on Christians that read the Word it was – a whopping 12 % — why is that.

Its either all Fire and Brimstone or all Lovey Jesus and you can live anyway you want. Neither one is in reality. But False
I do my homeword. But I will check that 115 thousand to make sure on that. I just saw that last night on a religious program. But I might have got it wrong. God bless –ty

  9. I “hear” you! WOW! I was totally unaware of those “facts” that you presented! UNBELIEVABLE!!!

I guess, I’ve just been surrounding myself with those that “truly” believe…lately! What do you think! NO (it’s not a question)! 🙂

I’m “out” for now…didn’t get a chance to see my Mom yesterday, so my two boys, my sister, and I, are taking her out to dinner tonight! talk to you tomorrow!

    God Bless!

  10. I agree with you on this one! AND, I think that the Internet has been very beneficial in this respect! ttyl…gotta’ go!

  11. For me, this is one of the best moments/messages (mercy and grace, freely given) in this older movie adaptation of Les Miserables. It is powerful message by the priest to the criminal, filled with pain, bitterness, anger and fear.

  12. Arizona, I enjoy that Carefree Highway.

    Psalm
    40

  13. Everybody dreams, but to “dream a dream” signifies a “great spiritual truth”, if properly interpreted.
