An expanded meaning to this scripture reveals more about the nature of Jesus /Yahshua., and how we should be also.

Matthew 5:14-16

14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

While the basic interpretation of the basket/ light analogy is we have a light that should shine to others, the deeper question to be asked, and interpretation, is really WHO is the source of that light?

Related scriptures:

John the Baptist says this to his followers about Yahshua / Jesus:

30 He must increase, but I must decrease.” John 3:30

Jesus says we have a light to shine that should not be hidden

Matthew 5:14-16

14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven

Jesus says he is the light of the world, so our light comes from him

Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” John 8:12

I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in Me should remain in darkness. John 12:46

Yahshua / Jesus gets his light from the Father

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.”  James 1:17

Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? John 14:9

And whoever sees Me [my light] sees the One [the source of my light] who sent Me. John 12:45

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. Colossians 1:15

He decreased Himself so that the Father Yahweh would increase in his ministry.

7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.  Phil 2: 7-8

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.  2 Corinthians 8:9

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.  Hebrews 12:2

Different degrees of removing the basket (blue) to reveal the light (yellow):

clip_image008

Let the light of the Father shine in us, which is what Jesus / Yahshua did

The basket is our soul / flesh.

As Jesus did, we must remove our “baskets” (souls, self) out of the way so ALL the world see is the Father’s light and presence.

When we contaminate the Father’s light with our own presence, ideas, personalities, attitudes, need for recognition, the world does not see the Father, but instead a strange mix of ugly flesh and spirt.

Jesus did not do this – what most people do .

He removed the basket.

He totally emptied himself of all his own needs and self, and ultimately submitted his flesh to crucifixion, so that all people saw was the Father who sent him.

If we could do this, then we could also be the “image of the Father” to others.

This is when we remove our baskets of self, die to self, and crucify self, so that the world could see the light that is revealed when the flesh is dead, and the light of Father’s presence is there to heal, deliver, inspire, make holy, and restore.

Most people keep their baskets, and just let a little of God’s light show.

This is because the people want to be seen, acknowledged, rewarded, and honored for what they do or say.

So they become the hero, instead of Father God Yahweh.

…Or at least they get in the way of the honor due the Father.

Then they wonder why there is no revival…

Remove your basket……….!

Praise and Worship is a tool to help us do this.

When we focus on Yahweh Father and Yahshua / Jesus, we forget ourselves and come into his presence and glory.

Also, examine your conscience daily, and work to remove selfish thoughts and behavior.

It may take time to remove your basket, but when you finally do, it will be worth it.
