Least Ones

Are you insignificant in this world?

–

If you are, then YHVH God can use you.

–

1.   Who are the least ones?

Poor

Homeless

Unemployed

Old

Single mom

Married mother with children

Divorced woman

Children

At the bottom of the pay scale where you work

Sick

Uneducated, except for maybe the Bible

Regardless of physical, social or financial status, a humble heart

Repentant prisoner or addict

Persecuted and hated by others

2. The least ones can be empowered

And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house. Judges 6:15

When the angel of the Lord told Gideon he was to selected to defeat Israel’s enemies, he could not understand why.

He was not rich, and had no followers.

He was also the least one in his father’s house, as if his brothers were better choices.

What he meant by least one I am not sure. Maybe he was smaller, younger, or not considered as smart as the others.

But YHVH God chose him, because he was a “nothing,” and God would get the glory, not him.

YHVH God does the same thing now if you are a least one.

–

You are more likely to be picked for the Lord’s service, than those:

in nice suits

who have or are honored on TV shows

who have “credentials”

who are paid well

–

3. YHVH God uses the least ones to challenge and test the “important” ones in this world

39 When did we see You sick or in prison and visit You?’

40 And the King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’

41 Then He will say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.…

Matthew 25: 39-41

Although one may not feel relevant to God’s plan as a least one, there are many ways God uses them, even if they are not aware of it.

How many people stop and help someone in trouble?

While those who pass by may have an excuse that seems reasonable to them, God may find this inexcusable.

The least one will get a reward in the next life, but those that pass him by will not.

19 “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day.

20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores

 

21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.

 

22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried.

 

23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 

 

24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’

 

25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony.

 

26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’

4. The most important quality YHVH God looks for in a person is humility

Jesus said that there is another kind of spiritual poverty—one we should seek.

He said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:3).

What did He mean?

Simply this: We must be humble in our spirits. If you put the word “humble” in place of the word “poor,” you will understand what He meant.

In other words, when we come to God, we must realize our own sin and our spiritual emptiness and poverty.

–

We must not be self-satisfied or proud in our hearts, thinking we don’t really need God.

If we are, God cannot bless us.

The Bible says,

“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6).

–

Pride can take all kinds of forms, but the worst is spiritual pride.

Often the richer we are in things, the poorer we are in our hearts.

Have you faced your own need of Christ?

Do you realize that you are a sinner and need God’s forgiveness?

Don’t let pride or anything else get in the way, but turn to Christ in humility and faith—and He will bless you and save you.
