Rich Young Ruler vs. Prosperity Gospel
–
For those who preach prosperity: Jesus tells a young man to give up all he has.
–
Money is not the goal, or a reward, for being saved.
–
[Luke 18:22] When Jesus heard this, He said to him, "One thing you still lack; sell all that you possess and distribute it to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."
–
This quote was directed toward a young man whose life revolved around his riches and power and status.
Jesus / Yahshua wanted to be first in his life, and the material things got in his way of making that possible.
Living for material things is living in the flesh:
5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.
6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.
7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.
8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.
Romans 8
–
When Jesus / Yahshua spoke to the general crowds, he did not promise them prosperity, or say they should seek prosperity as part of the kingdom.
He did not tell the crowds the same thing he told the young rich ruler, that they should give up all they had to follow Him.
He did say the Father would provide for those that are His, and that they would have what they needed, IF they asked, in Jesus/Yahshua’s name.
But this is not the same as riches, or money BEYOND what is needed.
–
–
The gospel is not about money!!!!
Jesus did not die a horrible, agonizing,
bloody death on the cross so that people
could
get free stuff, or things without really
working for them.
–
Pastors and other “leaders” who preach this are preaching a lie, and “another Jesus.”
–
We all have our gifts and limitations.
While one person will achieve much through God given natural talents, another person will achieve less.
In each case, God looks at the heart, and the state of gratitude that each one has for what he has been given.
Some have been given many talents, and others less talents, but in all cases, God has given them something to use to work with.
God wants us to use what we have been given, and glorify Him in the process.
–
–
Those that have been given little can see miraculous increase by just using what they have.
That is the glory of being given a little, to show how faithfulness with what we have brings reward.
The “poor” actually have more opportunities to see miraculous provision than the “rich,” who already have what they need.
So, the poor can potentially have greater testimonies for God than the rich.
And it is the Word of the testimony that brings others to Christ / Messiah.
THAT is the goal of the gospel, not how “blessed” we can get.
–
Here is an example of what I mean:
–
The rich will have a different opportunity, and this is to bless others with what they have, bring hope, and the love of Jesus to other people.
–
–
First of all, make YHVH God and Messiah Yahshua/ Jesus first in your life.
Be grateful for what you have.
Ask God for what you need, and leave the timing and response up to Him.
Wait on the Lord, and be busy working for Him.
Reward will come when it is time, not when you want it.
–
If you are rich, then share with others, but do so wisely.
If you are poor, then believe for miraculous provision, so you can share wonderful testimonies.
–
Remember, anyone can be SPRITUALLY rich or poor.
It is your choice.

Rich Young Ruler vs. Prosperity Gospel | Heaven Awaits said this on January 6, 2018 at 6:51 pm |
1 Tim 6:5 “… and constant friction between people of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.”
During sun day these preachers often cite Abraham who was prosperous while they plan on eating pork for lunch ignoring the fact Abraham kept Torah, Gen 26:5. They just want the rich part, ignoring the rest.
Ummm… Shoshana,
Though this will probably be a waste of time, Abraham DID NOT keep the Mosaic Law.
Abraham DID obey Tôwrâh though.
He obeyed each and every Direction and Instruction that the Divine had asked for him to do.
If you believe that Abraham observed the Mosaic Law, then you believe in Rabbinical Judaism and the teaching of men.
Men such as Rabbi Nehorai, (i.e. Mishnah Kiddushin, 4:14.) and Rabbi Shlomo Yitzchaki or Rashi, (i.e. Yoma 28b.).
Men that are attempting to understand the Holy Spirit inspired Word, that are NOT born of the Spirit.
Men that have been Blinded for the sake of the Gentiles, (Romans 11:25.) by Father God Himself.
Where for just one example out of many would be Isaiah 6:9-10.;
“Hear ye indeed, but UNDERSTAND NOT (biyn; “to NOT have discernment, insight, understanding”); and see ye indeed, but PERCEIVE NOT (yada`; “to NOT perceive, or have knowledge, or be wise”).
Make the HEART of THIS PEOPLE FAT (shaman; “calloused, or hard, metaph. “to cover over (or veil) the heart”), and make THEIR EARS HEAVY, and SHUT THEIR EYES; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.”
JESUS repeats and confirms this condition, within Matthew 13:13-15.;
“Therefore speak I to THEM in parables: because THEY SEEING SEE NOT; and HEARING THEY HEAR NOT, neither DO THEY UNDERSTAND.
And in THEM is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, ‘By hearing ye shall hear, and shall NOT UNDERSTAND (syniēmi; “to put together, i.e. to be capable of (mentally, or spiritually) comprehending”); and seeing ye shall see, and shall NOT PERCEIVE (horaō; perceive; to see with the mind, to perceive)’: For THIS PEOPLE’S heart is waxed gross, and THEIR ears are DULL OF HEARING, and THEIR EYES THEY HAVE CLOSED; lest at any time THEY should see with THEIR eyes, and hear with THEIR ears, and should understand with THEIR heart, and should be converted, and I should heal THEM.”
So, if you consider yourself to be a Christian and a believer who Lives in Faith and Trust in JESUS, then I wouldn’t place much weight in what Rabbinical Judaism might have to say.
Let’s look at a couple of things.
If you happen to believe that Abraham attained the designation of being righteous (Genesis 15:6.) because of your belief that Genesis 26:5. is referring to the Mosaic Law, doesn’t that CONTRADICT the New Second Covenant text of Galatians 2:16.?
“Knowing that a man is NOT JUSTIFIED by the WORKS of the (MOSAIC) law, BUT BY THE FAITH OF JESUS CHRIST, even we have believed in JESUS CHRIST, that we MIGHT BE JUSTIFIED BY THE FAITH OF CHRIST, and NOT BY THE WORKS of the (MOSAIC) law: for by the WORKS of the (MOSAIC) law SHALL NO FLESH BE JUSTIFIED.”
Respectively, the translated “JUSTIFIED” above is derived from the Greek verbs “δικαιοῦται – justified, δικαιωθῶμεν – we may be justified and δικαιωθήσεται – will be justified” where their root would be the transliterated “dikaioō”.
Dikaioō is defined as, “to declare, pronounce, one to be just, to render righteous or such he ought to be”.
Therefore the above verse could have very easily been translated as;
Knowing that a man is NOT RENDERED RIGHTEOUS by the WORKS of the (MOSAIC) law, BUT BY THE FAITH OF JESUS CHRIST, even we have believed in JESUS CHRIST, that we MIGHT BE DECLARED RIGHTEOUS BY THE FAITH OF CHRIST, and NOT BY THE WORKS of the (MOSAIC) law: for by the WORKS of the (MOSAIC) law SHALL NO FLESH BE PRONOUNCED AS RIGHTEOUS.
As well there is also Acts 13:39., Romans 3:20., 3:28. and Galatians 3:11. for just a few more.
The above New Second Covenant Scripture, clearly debunks the beliefs and understanding of Rabbinical Judaism, because Abraham was just a man, so there was NO possible way that he could have been declared or imputed to be Righteous and be Justified through the Mosaic Law.
Granted, Jewish Rabbis don’t read New Second Covenant text, but THEY have still failed to recognize a few substantial problems with THEIR interpretation and understanding, based solely on the Tanakh.
Where one would be what is written within Nehemiah 9:7,8.;
“Thou art the LORD the God, who didst choose Abram, and broughtest him forth out of Ur of the Chaldees, and gavest him the name of Abraham; And foundest HIS HEART FAITHFUL before Thee, and madest a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Jebusites, and the Girgashites, to give it, I say, to his seed, and hast performed thy words; for Thou art righteous:”.
Abraham had a BELIEVING and FAITHFUL HEART, MIND and SOUL.
The English “HIS HEART FAITHFUL” was derived from the Hebrew “לְבָבוֹ֮ נֶאֱמָ֣ן” transliterated respectively as the masculine noun “lêbâb” or “mind, heart, soul” and verb “ʼâman” or “made firm and faithful”.
There is nothing written in respects to Abraham fulfilling any “WORKS”, of the MOSAIC LAW there.
Another would be that this Rabbinical understanding, also CONTRADICTS what Moses says within Deuteronomy 5:1-3.;
“And Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and keep, and do them. The LORD our God made a covenant with US in Horeb (Sinai). The LORD MADE NOT THIS COVENANT WITH OUR FATHERS, but with US, even US, who are ALL OF US HERE ALIVE THIS DAY.”
Do you also happen to believe that Father Abraham was still alive and present at Sinai too? (See Genesis 25:8-11.)
Furthermore, if Abraham was declared to be righteous (as Abram in Genesis 15:6.) because he had OBEYED all of the MOSAIC LAW, then how does Rabbinical Judaism reconcile Abraham’s complete disregard of the MOSAIC LAW tôwrâh that expresses the “Firstborn Inheritance Birth Rights” within Deuteronomy 21:15-17.?
“If a man have two wives, one beloved, and another hated, and they have born him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the firstborn son be hers that was hated: Then it shall be, when he maketh his sons to inherit that which he hath, that he MAY NOT make the son of the beloved firstborn BEFORE the son of the hated, which is indeed the firstborn:
But he SHALL ACKNOWLEDGE the son of the hated for the firstborn, by GIVING HIM a double portion of all that he hath: for HE is the beginning of his strength; the RIGHT OF THE FIRSTBORN IS HIS.”
The aspect of whether a wife is hated or beloved is inconsequential.
The point that Father God is making here is, that within the MOSAIC LAW, no matter what the circumstances are, the FIRSTBORN SON is to RECEIVE THE RIGHTS OF INHERITANCE as the FIRSTBORN SON.
Yet, by NOT giving Ishmael the FIRSTBORN BIRTH RIGHTS, and a double portion of all that he had, Abraham DOESN’T OBEY, but completely “BREAKS” the MOSAIC LAW of Deuteronomy 21:15-17.!
Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac, the SECOND BORN SON (Genesis 24:36., Genesis 25:5.) Ishmael the FIRSTBORN received nothing from Abraham.
Rabbinical Judaism “limits the scope” of Torah/Tôwrâh to being the first five Books, with an emphasis to being specifically referring to the Mosaic Law. Christians shouldn’t do that.
Why?
Well first, what exactly is Torah?
Torah the Hebrew “תּוֹרָה” transliterated as “tôwrâh” is defined primarily in its noun form, as Divine “Direction, Instruction and Teaching”, (or what would constitute as Law).
Tôwrâh is derived from the Hebrew root verb “יָרָה” transliterated as “yârâh”, which is primarily defined as to “shoot an arrow and to hit the mark”.
Together then, tôwrâh can be understood and defined in respects to the Divine, “pointing or leading to show, to direct, to teach and instruct”, or to lay foundations to “hit the mark”.
By that definition, the first recorded “tôwrâh” issued to man within Scripture would be the Commandments that God spoke in Genesis 1:28,29. which are thousands and thousands of years prior to the revelation of the Mosaic Law upon Sinai.
But Christians shouldn’t limit tôwrâh to just the first five books or the Mosaic Law, because Father God’s tôwrâh (Direction, Instruction and Teaching) is also included within the New Second Covenant text as well.
If one takes into account Deuteronomy 18:15., 18,19., and John 3:34., 8:26.,28. & 47., 12:49,50., 14:10.,24., 17:8. & Hebrews 1:1,2., then EVERYTHING that JESUS said is also Direction, Instruction and Teaching or tôwrâh from Father God. The Prophets, Apostles, and Angel that enlightened John to record the Book of Revelation all provided Direction, Instruction and Teaching or tôwrâh from Father God.
The Promise of God in Christ that was made to Abraham, was made four hundred and thirty years BEFORE the revelation of the Mosaic Law, (Gal. 3:17.)
Abraham did NOT observe or keep any Mosaic Law.
He obeyed each and every Tôwrâh “Direction and Instruction” that the Divine had asked for him to do.

ETERNAL SURVIVAL BLESSINGS FOR YAHWEH’S SAINTS!
I have seen a lot of Pastors say of the years about getting rich in the church. This is wrong. Also, I have seen so called richer people in the church look down upon the poor people in the church. This has happened to me personally when I first got married 40 years ago plus one of your followers was laughing online about me when I was telling a storey about what happened to me in my town when I first got married.
I am not poor now, but also I am not rich. I am just out of debt and retired.
People judge you in the community and the church on your job position and how much money you earn. This is wrong. I remembered when I was young married woman with three young children and not working but my husband was when a rich Doctors wife at our church came up to me and asked me in a snobbish tone of voice “who taught you how to play the organ and where did you get your outfit from?” She did not know that I had high credentials in music and sewing and she did not like me because I was poor in her eyes even though I have a high education which she did not realise until I told her.
I have rich relatives who are always fighting and selfishness over money which has caused a lot of pain in my family. Money does not give you happiness. You soon get sick of things and always wanting to buy new and more things all the time. People should be satisfied with what they have and share things with other people who need help.
lynnette
i agree. even in my own family there was greed and snobbishness, my brother, but it came back to bite him.
once he finished robbing my mother and I blind and claimed all the family property and money, he died of a heart attack, alone in the back yard.
I hope in his final moments he got saved. I had been praying for him for 20 years
My cousin who had a lot of farm property and money ended up in divorce and his son when he got older wanted the some of the property from his father. His father would not let him have any of the property. The son threatened to kill his father over the property and he hated his father very much. This is what greed does in families.
What comes around goes around. Greed and snobbery gets you no wear. People remember you how you treat them when you are alive or die.
amen
I think of people like Kenneth Copeland, Rick Warren and the TBN gang preaching to poor people dying of cancer that what Jesus really wants for them is for them to is to be rich and to be living the good life. These people are playing church and they are turning away fragile souls searching for Jesus.
The bible is clear, God refines the ones he loves through trials to get rid of the dross, so that they are suited for Heaven and have at least tried to correct their defective characters. Your comparison between prosperity preacher, mega-church millionaires and the rich, young ruler is right on. It’s intersting that these are the same preachers who are joining the one world religion/whore of Babylon system and leading their followers into the Whore of Babylon system of the last days.
Amen. Well said.

BABYLON THE GREAT MOTHER OF HARLOTS
MENE MENE TEKEK UPHARSIM
God’s words are ever true!
In Australia, the state of New South Wales, the city of Sydney, we have a great big church called “Hill Song”. The preacher who runs this is very rich in assets and money. They seem to entertain young people like a pop concert singing gospel songs and preach like an entertainer. The church people seem to get high on the entertainment and it draws a large crowd.
I don’t mean that you can’t sing gospel songs with a beat in the music but the church people should not get carried away with the entertainment. A church service should be done with respect and singing praises to Jesus and God in a godly manner not like a pop concert.
This is misleading to a lot of people especially the young people and people who are finding Christ because in this world you have to come to reality that being a Christian is not a bed of roses it can be very trying because Satin is the ruler of this world and he does not like people following Christ and there are times when things become a test to our faith.
People should be spending a lot of time with reading their Bible, prayer and family. In todays society people focus on getting rich and having a lot of social friends and forget about spending quality time with reading their Bible, prayer and family.
In Australia I was reading the latest news that children as young as five years of age were getting anxiety attacks because the parents did not spend enough quality time with them because they were too busy working to make money and spending time with their social friends not their family.
I don’t mean that you can’t have social friends but put your family first then your friends not the other way around. You will be rich in spirit if you do that.

I have heard of hillsong. I have heard the music but also complaints of people in need that asked for help. hillsong does not help the poor.
Marianne I agree Hillsong does not help the poor. I would say all the money goes to the church and the pastor because they are richer than most people in the community. This church and pastor are entertainers and they are not out to help the poor in the community in which they should be doing.
HI Lynette and Marianne, it seems that you are a little uninformed. Hillsong are very involved in their local community and also globally with many social issues. Here are a couple of links you can have a look at if you’d like: https://hillsong.com/citycare/ https://hillsong.com/bwc/initiatives/
