Temple Snake Stoppers

I found the ingredients interesting on the bottle I used.

Since I live near the woods, I occasionally have to deal with animal life wandering into my yard.

Snakes come crawling in along with other creatures.

Since some snakes can be poisonous, I decided to find something to deter them.

I found a product called “Snake Stopper.”

This is the description

Snake Stopper is a potent blend of all natural and USDA recommended ingredients–clove oil, cedar oil, cinnamon oil and sulfur combine to effectively repel snakes from yards, gardens, sheds, campsites, patios, decks, or anywhere they are undesirable. Snake Stopper does not harm snakes; it simply drives them away naturally and is safe for use where children and pets play.

The aromatic oils are actually pleasant for the human to smell, but the snakes do not like them and leave.

I wonder if there is a connection between driving away physical snakes, and spiritual ones.

These same aromatic oils were used in the Jewish Tabernacle and Temple worship to establish an atmosphere of worship and holiness.

There were 11 of them:

Within the Holy Temple stood an altar of Acacia Wood overlaid with beaten gold. Upon it was burned the Ketoret, an incense made up of 11 different spices.

The names of the spices are enumerated in Tractate Keritot (folio 6a) of the Talmud Bavli (see below) and are repeated daily in the morning and afternoon services.

The 11 spices of the Ketoret are:

Balsam clip_image005
Clove
Galbanum
Frankincense
Myrrh
Cassia
Spikenard
Saffron
Costus
Aromatic Bark
Cinnamon

WHAT IS KETORET?

Because of its importance and significance to the celebration of the central figure of Judeo-Christian traditions, Ketoret was considered a spice-blend and was “the handiwork of an expert spice-compounder, thoroughly mixed, pure and holy” (‘Bible Discovered’, n.d.).

Any deviation from the recipe and usage could result in death (although, today, such strictures are generally considered extreme).

According to My Jewish Learning, there are two origin stories we must consider when trying to recreate Ketoret for the modern practitioner.

First, the Book of Exodus (30:34) contains reference to four key ingredients (Balsam, Onycha, Galbanum, and Frankincense).

However, in the oral tradition of the Talmud, seven additional ingredients (see below) are added to the mix

In total, there is some combination of the original four elements (Exodus) and additional seven elements (Talmud) that are the basis for Ketoret:

  • 70 maneh each of (‘maneh’ is an historical method for weighing an item)

· Balsam

· Onycha*

· Galbanum

· Frankincense

  • 16 maneh each of:

· Myrrh

· Cassia

· Saffron

· Spikenard

  • Varying maneh each of:

· Costus (12 maneh)

· Aromatic bark (3 maneh)

· Cinnamon (9 maneh)

· An additional small amount of wine is used to treat the incense blend.

While I have not tried this yet, I would like to get some of these same oils and try them in a deliverance setting, to see what effect, if any, they have.

Demons do not usually stay around in a worship setting, and the fragrances is part of worship.

This could be an aid in difficult cases, where the demons have established a foothold.

If anyone tries this before me, I would love to get some feedback.

  1. Hi Marianne,
Very interesting! When anointing one’s home oil is used or Holy water and maybe there are other things that could be used. There is alot of folklore out there such as garlic wards off demons! I would love to know more as well…

it is worth a try….i checked and each bottle of oil costs about $14…so to get all 11 is too much….maybe get one at a time and see….

  2. Very interesting

  3. Does this give new meaning to the term “snake oil”? I guess the real meaning of “snake oil” has more to do with potion makers and Greek “pharmakoi”. Bit of a weird coincidence though.

  4. This reminds me of Peter D’Adamo’s “Eat Right for Your Type”. He suggests people should eat according to their blood type (A, B, AB, or O).
I found it interesting the book categorizes animals that the Torah considered “unclean”, such as pork, on the “avoid” list of all blood types for one’s overall health. “Life is in the blood”! (Genesis 9:4, Leviticus 17:11)

  5. This sounds quite interesting and intriguing. I burn various inscense but never quite the mixture.

  6. Love it… Bless you my Sis in Yeshua….♥

    Psalm 32:8
I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go.
I will counsel you with my eye on you.

    John 16:13
But when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on His own; but whatever He hears, He will tell you. And He will declare to you the things that are to come.

  7. It is coincidental I should read this, as I just picked up a little bag of frankincense today!

I will see about gathering the other minerals and combining them and check back in later.

    God blesses

  8. Much appreciate the information.

I beg however to differ on the conclusion. For it is clear that the practice of the old temple, including the sacrifices were all an image of the eternal sacrifice of the Christ and his church.

Thus it is more convenient to seek meaning of the ancient fragrances of the temple to the disposition of the true followers of Christ.

For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish: -2 Corinthians 2:15

Those who are in Christ are the ingredients of the spiritual fragrances, and thus being in Christ by itself pleases God and attracts men, while of course driving away the demons.

As it is also written, Resist the devil and he will flee from you. We resist by abiding in the way of Christ Jesus, who makes a sweet savour.

  9. Be very careful. I say believe in blood of Christ’s power alone. We are to keep his law, however Christ died to save us so we had grace and not have to sacrifice anymore. As Christ was ultimate sacrifice. So we didn’t not have to sacrifice anymore.

So in the yard to keep snakes out yes! But in the home to keep evil away? No it is then stating spiritually that you do not believe in Christs power to save and protect.

( I wrote you a reply requesting help in one of your other posts) but regarding witchcraft.. They (witches) use this stuff as well! So I myself made a promise to God when I became a christian to not touch anything not of him. And because witches use this I won’t take the chance to make the man upstairs angry at me. 😉 Just a thought.

    • dear abused

my intent was not to replace the blood of Jesus with fragrances.

it was more to enhance the home environment, making it more conducive to worship and prayer, thus driving away the spirits in that way.

praise and worship music in the home has the same effect…although fragrances do smell nice

I do not think god will be angry if we try to reproduce the temple environment for worship purposes.

he would be angry if the fragrances he created were used for witchcraft.

note: I got this comment first, but I see your other comment, and will answer that one also.

  10. Good points!
