Unforgiveness is a Sin

Forgiveness is hard for many believers.

Those who are keen on wanting life to be fair, and want justice to prevail at all times, have a hard time when justice seems to fail, and injury is either very severe, or just continues without being stopped.

Where is the help?

Some injuries are imagined, but others are very real.

Evil seems to rule a lot now, or goes unopposed, and not punished.

Extreme examples are political corruption, murder, torture, pedophilia, human trafficking.

But cases of workplace injustice, marriage infidelity, slander or defamation, betrayal of any friendship, dishonesty, etc. are common personal injuries.

It seems easier to imagine forgiving strangers who do evil, than close, trusted ones who hurt us.

From the web:

Definition of unforgiving

1:unwilling or unable to forgive

2:having or making no allowance for error or weakness

an unforgiving environment where false moves can prove fatal

Unforgiveness Definition: Not Having the Compassion to Forgive.

Another definition of unforgiveness is not having the compassion to forgive.

If someone has offended us, we have a choice to either forgive them or not forgive them.

Unforgiveness is when we choose not to have compassion for someone that has offended us, and we choose not to have the willingness to forgive them.

Unforgiveness Definition: A Resentful Attitude That Spews Out All Types of Evil.

No matter what or how a person offends us, it is our choice whether we forgive or do not forgive them.

From a Biblical viewpoint, to forgive is good and to not forgive is bad.

Unforgiveness is a sin that causes us to think and do evil things.

Marianne’s Definition of unforgiveness

You have offended or injured me, and you must be punished severely, or the way I want.

Apologies will not work.

Punishment must happen.

Everyone must know what you did to me.

It makes me bitter that you are not sorry.

Bible verses

Ephesians 4:31, “Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice.”

Matthew 18:35, “So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.”

Matthew 5:24, “Leave there thy gift before the alter, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.”

Romans 12:19, “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.”

If you forgive others the wrongs they have done to you, your Father in heaven will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive the wrongs you have done. (Matthew 6:14-15)

Unforgiveness vs Justice or Fair Judgment

Unforgiveness wants punishment imposed to the satisfaction of the injured party.

Punishment has no defined beginning or end, and could continue far past what is reasonable.

Severity and length of punishment depends on degree of, and continued bitterness, of injured party.

Justice requires that the punishment fits the crime.

Punishment has a beginning and an end.

Divine justice depends on YHVH God’s sovereign judgment and laws.

Some judgments are written, and to be followed by man, and other judgments are left up to YHVH God himself.

Real injury

It is best to separate oneself from the offender, to avoid future injury.

This is just wise, and not unforgiveness.

The separation helps to subdue raw emotions felt around the offender as well.

Forgiveness is not denial.

We should also not go in the other extreme direction, and turn a blind eye to injury or evil.

That is being permissive.

True Forgiveness is not weakness…… It is strength, and faces the truth.

I you have unforgiveness in your heart, you need to repent.

You are only hurting yourself, and cutting yourself off from the forgiveness of YHVH God.

YHVH God is just. He will handle the unfair situation for you in his own timing.

YHVH God himself requires repentance to forgive.

So, forgive, and to respond to true repentance of others.

If they have not repented yet, then have the forgiveness already in your heart, and be ready and willing, when YHVH God opens a door for healing.

    Overcoming Offences
    (En Español)
When we study what Jesus taught, it is obvious to me that He came to make us “unoffendable.” Consider: He says that if someone slaps you on one cheek, offer him the other (Luke 6:29). He said to love our enemies and bless those who curse us (Luke 6:27-28). What He’s really doing is showing us how an unoffendable heart of love overcomes all adversity.
We pray, “Lord, I want to change.” To answer our prayer, He sometimes must put us in situations that perfectly offend us. The offense itself awakens our need of grace. Thus, the Lord precipitates change by first offending the area of our soul He desires to transform. He does not expect us to merely survive this adversity but to become Christlike in it.
Ask Joseph in the Old Testament: the land of offense became the land of his anointing and power because he possessed an unoffendable heart. He never stopped trusting God in spite of the injustices and trials he faced.
Listen my friends: the destiny God has for us unfolds or withers at the junction of offense. How we handle offense is the key to our tomorrow.
“Those who love [God’s] law have great peace, and nothing causes them to stumble” (Ps. 119:165).
Lord, grant me that new creation heart that can walk as Jesus walked through a world of offenses without stumbling. I want to see everything as an opportunity to pray, everything as an opportunity to become Christlike. Lord help me to interpret offenses as opportunities that lead to transformations. Grant me, Lord Jesus, the pulse and beat of Your unoffendable heart. Amen.

  4. Unforgiveness is a way we harden our own hearts. It is also allows us opportunity to enlarge this circle with people we find annoying or offensive.
Satan can use this to lead us further away from the plan God has for our life.

    HalleluYah! Hebrew: “Praise ye Yah!”

Yes forgive but beware of people coming back into your life not
willing to face their negative past with you. They want to relate to you on their terms alone. And, this person states she does not want to hear anything about the Bible. This was my very long absent daughter writing to me recently. There was nothing to forgive as she did not ask to be forgiven. The only thing I could do was witness again to her about the truth. At one time she believed and had gone under the water of immersion. Not now. We have to give the care of these wayward loved ones into Yahweh’s Hands. Please know they cannot outrun our prayers!

  6. Lord , we need your help to forgive all the offense . and walk in your love.

My husband lives in unforgiveness and bitterness.he is born again ,knows Bible, but once he hates someone he can’t forgive or forget.
I feel very sad to live with such a miserable man.he always complains and keep finding fault with me as I love the people he hates.
How can I help him he is anointed with holysprit Spirit and born and raised in a Pentecostal family

    • annie

i understand. I have had this battle myself.

he has to learn to hate the sin he is angry about, and not the person. he can avoid the person, who may be bad, but he has to put ultimate justice in God’s hands. he is bitter most likely because the person has ” gotten away with it” so far, so his anger is a substitute for the justice he wants.

this is a test for him. to rely on God’s grace to strengthen him, and to have faith in God that God will execute justice on his behalf on the other person.

he must understand he needs to let go….or the Father God will not forgive his sins too…then he cannot enter heaven……….why sacrifice heaven for a sinful person who hurt him and will not repent?

God’s will and justice has to be the top priority, not you husband’s personal feelings about someone, or he is holding his own feelings as an idol to be given top priority over God.

I support you in prayer for his deliverance.

  10. a professor Milligan in 1885 wrote a little more clearly what I was trying to convey: “….Babylon is All professed Christians who love the world! it consists of those who love the world’s favor, rather than its reproach. It is those who is esteem the honor of the world, rather than its shame. It is those who love ease rather than sacrifice; self indulgence rather than self-denial; grasping, covetous. Babylon is all who anywhere profess to be Christ’s little flock, but who are not because they deny him by their actions. Babylon as far as I am concerned, is any church – any ministry – any Christian – in league with the world!”

JOe sweet – It is in the trials that we gain the gold
One of the complaints the Lord Jesus had with the Laodicean church (Rev. 3:14-22) was they were so “blessed” (We are rich and have need of nothing) that they lost sight of their need for the life of Christ. His counsel to them was to get some gold (which is found in the fire of trials) and become truly rich.

    • Reinhard Bonnke has carried this passionate fire most of his life. Many years ago I had the honor of being part of an interview with Pastor Benny Hinn and Reinhard. During the break between tapings, Pastor Benny asked, “Reinehart, how do you endure Africa? It is so hot, dusty and such a tough place. It is so hard, I cannot imagine how difficult it must be to spend your life there.” With fire in his eyes Reinhard answered, “Brother Benny, I would walk 100 miles in the African heat and sleep on the African dirt to see one African saved.” His passion burned like a white hot flame as he declared these words. He not only loves God, he also the people

  18. I see flash visions, sometimes just two seconds. This was a flash vision of a snake that was approaching, almost turning into a lotus flower.
My understanding of it is the antichrist is going to be birthed very soon and may already have been birthed. So, when I look at lotus flower symbolism, the meaning was most specific in Egyptology to the ancient Egyptians. There were two main types, the white and the blue. There was also a pink lotus flower, but I saw white in my flash vision. The plant and the lotus particularly is to be associated with rebirth. The snake is very clearly the dragon. It is the serpent in Genesis. It is the dragon in Revelation. So, we’re talking about the snake, the dragon, being reborn right now. It is the dragon approaching the lotus flower. The lotus flower is showing the rebirth of the antichrist, the antichrist spirit, the dragon. We’re talking about Satan indwelling the antichrist himself and it’s happening. It’s all happening right now.

Adding to Barry’s interpretation, the white lotus flower represents the deceptive appearance of the antichrist spirit, which presents itself as pure and lovely to those who lack discernment, confirming the imagery revealed to the Apostle John of the rider on the white horse (Revelation 6:1-2), which is the antichrist masquerading in the imagery of the Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ, who also rides a white horse. (Revelation 19:11)
Satan operates under a cloak of darkness, presenting himself as something good. His followers are deceived into committing terrible deeds because they believe his lie that it is for the greater good, similar to how German soldiers justified the mass murder of millions of innocent Jewish people, including hundreds of thousands of children. In the same way, the antichrist will make his case to the world, promising the path to peace and prosperity when in reality it is the way to death and destruction. Beware of the lotus flower because within it is the serpent.

        • Understand who God is – His Holy character – KNOW THE WORD (Bible).
        • Keep a (holy) fear for the Lord – respect for an almighty God (Proverbs 9:10 –
        11 and 14: 26-27 and 19: 23 ).
        • Do not seek a “religious high” or “spiritual hype” that is fleshly and centres around “self”. Seek God.
        • Do not rely on subjective impressions (e.g. “it felt good”)
        • Do not “chase” miracles and wonders – seek after God.
        • Do not worship men – only God – do not make an idol of a certain religious leader or institution.
        • The Holy Spirit of God is NEVER violent towards people or treats people with disrespect.
        • Stay humble and focus on God, not yourself and your own selfish desires.
        • Investigate the “fruit” of prophets and manifestations. Look for the fruit of repentance, respect for Scripture, exalting Jesus and the cross, love for fellow Christians and the unreached.
        • Be willing to face suffering/persecution for the sake of the Truth and look for others who are willing to do the same.
        • Do not accept supernatural signs as a guarantee of truth.
        • False manifestations are often caused by believers seeking “touches”, blessings or experiences, rather than seeking God for His own sake.
        • Stay centralised on the cross and know that everything we have and do is grace.
        • Anything that exalts the Holy Spirit or the “gifts” or “manifestations” above Jesus Christ = fanaticism.
        • True gifts of the Holy Spirit are holy and pure, the counterfeit is weird and ugly.
        • Receive the love of the truth (2 Thes. 2:10 -13).
        • Anything degrading, flippant, indecent, insensitive, rude, self-assertive, self-exalting, sham, silly, stupid, vulgar is not from the Holy Spirit
        • The Holy Spirit cannot be manipulated, is a servant and always glorifies Jesus.
        • Proper worship does not seek to elevate our emotions or thrill our senses.
        • NB: Pray for discernment!
1 Peter 5:8: “Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil walks about like
a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”

    • Hi Marianne, i found other’s article , it echo to what you said in your writing , thanks . .

I suspect that some in the church world have picked up a kundalini spirit not because they were seeking Yeshua with all their hearts, but because they were seeking an experience. This is idolatry. When we seek anything other than Yeshua , especially supernatural experiences, we’ll get it, for sure, but it won’t be from the Ruach! When, on the other hand, we’re seeking Yeshua with all our heart to love and serve him as it says in Luke 11:9-13, he won’t give us a serpent or a stone (i.e. demonic counterfeit), but will give us good gifts. You can trust YHVH on this!!!! quote , that is idolatry to seek anything other than Yeshua .

  24. Hi Marianne,

this is common sense, but very important.

this morning, pastor said that when we read and meditate the bible , and pray on the word, we will be filled with the Holy Spirit , this is a right way and safe way to connect with the Holy Spirit .

we do not need to ask other to pray for us to be filled with Holy Spirit,
we just connect with Holy Spirit by reading, meditating ,and praying the word.

    God bless

President Trump, when I spoke to him in the White House about this several weeks ago, he said this very emphatically. He said, ‘Other presidents have failed you, but I will not disappoint the Christian community in this issue. I will stand with Israel, and we will at some point in time, move the embassy,'” said John Hagee. He also talked with the president about the significance of moving the embassy in this “Jubilee Year.””… I told him that God measures everything in modules of 50 years,” Hagee explained to CBN News. “And I said, this is a principle that’s carried out in Leviticus, the 25th chapter.””I said, ‘If you look at 1917, it was a Jubilee Year, and the Balfour Amendment came, and then in 50 years, it was 1967, and Jerusalem was reconnected to Israel,'” he continued.”‘And you add 50 to 1967, and you’re in 2017.’ I said, ‘This is the year to move the embassy and make that declaration because it is a biblical timing of absolute precision,'” Hagee said. “Thank God, he’s going to do exactly that.”

  27. Ezra 3:6
from the first day of the seventh month they began to offer burnt offerings to the LORD. But the foundation of the temple of the LORD was not yet laid.

    Hi Marianne,

i have a question , when offer burnt offerings , do we need to have the temple of the Lord first ? i thought we need to have the temple be built first then we could offer the sacrifice . do you have any thoughts ?

    • you need the temple built in jerusalem. that is the only place sacrifices are accepted.

      • thanks .

ezra 3:6 , they did not have temple yet, how could they offer the sacrifice ? thanks

        • although the structure had not been rebuilt yet, they were on the temple mount, on the LOCATION of the destroyed temple. so they were in the right place. remember, the outer court of the destroyed temple was an open outdoor area. the only “indoor” component was the holy place and holy of holies. so they were physically in the location of the outer court when they offered up the sacrifices

  28. another question, “under the fig tree” what does it mean ?
