Tyre – Babylon’s “Twin City” in scripture

Babylon is described as fallen twice. Both ancient Babylon, and its twin city Tyre, were destroyed. Babylon was never rebuilt.  The ancient city of Tyre was partly destroyed by Alexander in 333 BC, rebuilt somewhat by the Romans, and destroyed again by the Muslims in 1291 AD.  This fulfilled one prophecy.  However, since then, the main portion of the city has been rebuilt, which is in line with another prophecy, and prepares it for another event. Is the upcoming “event” a link, or a clue, to identifying the final Babylon?

Babylon was destroyed. Tyre, an island city, was partly destroyed in a similar fashion. Babylon was not rebuilt. Both are described as almost identical in industry, trade, worldly influence, and wealth. In some ways, Tyre is described as  greater than Babylon, which historically is not true yet. Some of the descriptions do not match ancient Tyre. For example, Tyre was not a “terror” to other countries.  So, we must look at some prophecies as being fulfilled, and some as yet to be fulfilled.

We know that the woman who rides the beast of terror in the book of Revelation has to be associated with, and supported by it in some way. Unless another Babylon is rebuilt, it cannot fall again. Tyre has been rebuilt, but it does not yet fit the description given in prophecy. Can Tyre fall again? Since it has 2 halves, an island and a mainland portion, can half fall and fulfill one prophecy, and the other half be rebuilt to fulfill another?  Would this give us a clue as to who Babylon and the 4th Beast are?

Old and New Testament describes Babylon and how it will fall 2 times

Isa 21:9 And, behold, here comes a chariot of men, [with] a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.

Rev 18:2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.

There were great similarities between Babylon and Tyre

Current Theories about Babylon

Some say Babylon is Rome, just because the Catholic Church is centered there. However, there are many descriptions which do not match. This might be another study. J Current theories also include America – the entire nation- or New York City, as Babylon. However, the trade descriptions do not match. Or, it could be the general area of the Middle East, as certain merchandise and commodities can only be found there. See other post

Babylon is still Babylon Click here for more.

Could the fact that another twin city named Tyre built in Lebanon, close to the original site, be a confirmation that the “mystery Babylon” would be located in that general area? Maybe yes, and maybe no, but the evidence that Babylon is NOT America or Rome seems to be growing.

While some feel that America is Babylon, there are many discrepancies between the description in Revelation 18 and America. I am sure America will feel the effects of end time events, based on its own failings, but the evidence continues to point to the Middle East as the center of activity. What I do is allow scripture to interpret scripture.

Babylon does not fall until Revelation 18, at the end of the period of divine wrath, and some are predicting that America will “fall” in the fall of 2008. This does not make sense to me. Even if America is Babylon, it cannot “fall” until after the Bowls of Wrath (Rev 16) is over with.

A closer look at Tyre being rebuilt (built up and expanded) for the Antichrist as a city of terror

http://www.frankcaw.com/Tyre-Rebuilt.html

Ezekiel mixed all of his prophetic predictions together, some of which were intended to be fulfilled soon after their proclamation, while others were destined to be fulfilled during the end times.

Biblical prophecies concerning the city of Tyre involve very dramatic predictions which were never fulfilled! Therefore, a future city of Tyre must be rebuilt in order to fulfill those biblical prophecies. Only then will the oft-repeated prediction that the city of Tyre will be destroyed, forever, finally be fulfilled. Thus, the tremendous wealth and influence of the city pictured in Ezekiel 27 must represent a future fulfillment because ancient Tyre never attained the degree of wealth described in this passage:

Ezekiel 27:1-4, 12, 25, 27, 32-36
1 The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying,

2 Now, thou son of man, take up a lamentation for Tyrus;

3 And say unto Tyrus, O thou that art situate at the entry of the sea, which art a merchant of the people for many isles, Thus saith the Lord GOD; O Tyrus, thou hast said, I am of perfect beauty.

4 Thy borders are in the midst of the seas, thy builders have perfected thy beauty.

12 Tarshish was thy merchant by reason of the multitude of all kind of riches; with silver, iron, tin, and lead, they traded in thy fairs.

25 The ships of Tarshish did sing of thee in thy market: and thou wast replenished, and made very glorious in the midst of the seas.

27 Thy riches, and thy fairs, thy merchandise, thy mariners, and thy pilots, thy calkers, and the occupiers of thy merchandise, and all thy men of war, that are in thee, and in all thy company which is in the midst of thee, shall fall into the midst of the seas in the day of thy ruin.

32 And in their wailing they shall take up a lamentation for thee, and lament over thee, saying, What city is like Tyrus, like the destroyed in the midst of the sea?

33 When thy wares went forth out of the seas, thou filledst many people; thou didst enrich the kings of the earth with the multitude of thy riches and of thy merchandise.

34 In the time when thou shalt be broken by the seas in the depths of the waters thy merchandise and all thy company in the midst of thee shall fall.

35 All the inhabitants of the isles shall be astonished at thee, and their kings shall be sore afraid, they shall be troubled in their countenance.

36 The merchants among the people shall hiss at thee; thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt be any more. (KJV)

Although ancient Tyre was a very famous city-state renowned for its world sea trade, it never boasted the incredible display of wealth and riches portrayed in the above biblical scripture. That is why a future Tyre must be rebuilt so that all the kings of the world can become wealthy by the multitude and abundance of her riches and treasures.

Ezekiel 26:15-21
15 Thus saith the Lord GOD to Tyrus; Shall not the isles shake at the sound of thy fall, when the wounded cry, when the slaughter is made in the midst of thee?

16 Then all the princes of the sea shall come down from their thrones, and lay away their robes, and put off their broidered garments: they shall clothe themselves with trembling; they shall sit upon the ground, and shall tremble at every moment, and be astonished at thee.

17 And they shall take up a lamentation for thee, and say to thee, How art thou destroyed, that wast inhabited of seafaring men, the renowned city, which wast strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, which cause their terror to be on all that haunt it!

18 Now shall the isles tremble in the day of thy fall; yea, the isles that are in the sea shall be troubled at thy departure.

19 For thus saith the Lord GOD; When I shall make thee a desolate city, like the cities that are not inhabited; when I shall bring up the deep upon thee, and great waters shall cover thee;

20 When I shall bring thee down with them that descend into the pit, with the people of old time, and shall set thee in the low parts of the earth, in places desolate of old, with them that go down to the pit, that thou be not inhabited; and I shall set glory in the land of the living;

21 I will make thee a terror, and thou shalt be no more: though thou be sought for, yet shalt thou never be found again, saith the Lord GOD. (KJV)

In the preceding scripture, there can be no question that some of the prophecies represent a futuristic fulfillment involving a future city of Tyre. Admittedly, there are other prophecies in Ezekiel that predicted the city of Tyre would be thrown into the midst of the seas when it was destroyed.

But, apparently those prophecies were fulfilled when debris, left over from the destruction of mainland Tyre, was used by Alexander the Great to build a bridge of land out to the island fortress of Tyre. However, in the passage above, it clearly states that the waters of the ocean will come up and cover the city completely, a phenomenon that is entirely different from Tyre falling into the sea as predicted in other biblical prophecies. So, evidently this prophetic prediction has never happened, yet. Nor will it happen until near the time of Armageddon when the islands of the world will crumble into the oceans as a great final earthquake devastates the entire globe:

Revelation 16:17-21
17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.

18 And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.

19 And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.

20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.

21 And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great. (KJV)

“When I shall bring thee down with them that descend into the pit, with the people of old time, and shall set thee in the low parts of the earth, in places desolate of old.” It is very likely this scriptural passage concerns a future, modern city of Tyre because it is predicted that Tyre will descend down into the pit to join the people of old time, i.e., of ancient times.

Ezechiel 26: 17, 21
17 And they shall take up a lamentation for thee, and say to thee, How art thou destroyed, that wast inhabited of seafaring men, the renowned city, which wast strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, which cause their terror to be on all that haunt it!

21 I will make thee a terror… (KJV)

Although the ancient city of Tyre was renowned for its sea trade and commerce, it was never a towering military power which created fear and terror in people throughout the world, or even in Europe and Asia Minor. In fact, as we noted previously, down throughout history, ancient Tyre was subjected to frequent military invasions by powerful neighboring countries who always were anxious to exploit Tyre’s commercial and geopolitical importance. So, obviously this must be a reference to a future, rebuilt city of Tyre which will become the political capital of a new world leader, i.e., Antichrist, about whom the whole world will say: Who is like unto the beast? Who is able to make war with him?

Ezekiel 27:36
36 The merchants among the people shall hiss at thee; thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt be any more. (KJV)

Ezekiel 26:21
21 I will make thee a terror, and thou shalt be no more: though thou be sought for, yet shalt thou never be found again, saith the Lord GOD. (KJV)

The above two prophecies state, specifically, that the city of Tyre will never be found again, i.e., extant, after undergoing a final, devastating destruction by God. Although there is only a fishing village located there now, something far short of the splendor and grandeur and influence of ancient Tyre, nevertheless, something is still there.

Since a small city or village can be found there currently, contrary to the precise wording of the above scriptures, these predictions must achieve a future fulfillment some day. Because there must come a time when absolutely nothing can be found there, and it will happen when the former island segment of Tyre is annihilated in the final great earthquake that will shake the whole world.

Zechariah 9:1-8
1 The burden of the word of the LORD in the land of Hadrach, and Damascus shall be the rest thereof: when the eyes of man, as of all the tribes of Israel, shall be toward the LORD.

2 And Hamath also shall border thereby; Tyrus, and Zidon, though it be very wise.

3 And Tyrus did build herself a strong hold, and heaped up silver as the dust, and fine gold as the mire of the streets.

4 Behold, the Lord will cast her out, and he will smite her power in the sea; and she shall be devoured with fire.

5 Ashkelon shall see it, and fear; Gaza also shall see it, and be very sorrowful, and Ekron; for her expectation shall be ashamed; and the king shall perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited.

6 And a bastard shall dwell in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines.

7 And I will take away his blood out of his mouth, and his abominations from between his teeth: but he that remaineth, even he, shall be for our God, and he shall be as a governor in Judah, and Ekron as a Jebusite.

8 And I will encamp about mine house because of the army, because of him that passeth by, and because of him that returneth: and no oppressor shall pass through them any more: for now have I seen with mine eyes. (KJV)

In the above passage, please note that Tyre builds itself a strong hold, and heaps up huge amounts of gold and silver in its coffers. Yet, it is said that God smashes her into the sea, and destroys her with fire (at the time of Armageddon when the 7th Trumpet-Vial plague will unleash an incredible, cataclysmic earthquake that will destroy all the mountains and islands and cities throughout the world). At that point in time, God will encamp about His house in Jerusalem as a direct response to the invading army of the Antichrist, i.e., him that passes by. But then after wards, it is said that no oppressor shall invade and persecute Israel again. Obviously this passage requires a future fulfillment so that a rebuilt city of Tyre can acquire the incredible wealth and power, predicted in this scripture, before it is destroyed violently and suddenly as described.

Ezekiel predicts that the city of Tyre will be destroyed forever. Yet Isaiah 23 describes this very same destruction, but then predicts that Tyre will be rebuilt 70 years after wards so that it can provide food and clothing for them that dwell before the Lord in Jerusalem forever. Although these predictions appear to involve an outright contradiction, it is actually only a matter of complexity. As mentioned earlier, Tyre historically was always a city of two sections; part of it was located on the island area that was linked to the mainland in ancient times by a gigantic dirt-mound, and the remaining part was located on the actual mainland. So, it is the island -ie. peninsular – segment of Tyre that will be destroyed forever (during the great final earthquake that will occur during Armageddon when all the islands and mountains of the world will be destroyed). Isaiah even confirms this conclusion by stating that Tyre will be destroyed near the time when the country of Egypt will be destroyed, i.e., just prior to the time when the Battle of Armageddon begins (Dan. 11:40-45).

Isaiah 23:1, 5-9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 18
1 The burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: from the land of Chittim it is revealed to them.

5 As at the report concerning Egypt, so shall they be sorely pained at the report of Tyre.

6 Pass ye over to Tarshish; howl, ye inhabitants of the isle.

7 Is this your joyous city, whose antiquity is of ancient days? her own feet shall carry her afar off to sojourn.

8 Who hath taken this counsel against Tyre, the crowning city, whose merchants are princes, whose traffickers are the honourable of the earth?

9 The LORD of hosts hath purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honourable of the earth.

11 He stretched out his hand over the sea, he shook the kingdoms: the LORD hath given a commandment against the merchant city, to destroy the strong holds thereof.

13 Behold the land of the Chaldeans; this people was not, till the Assyrian founded it for them that dwell in the wilderness: they set up the towers thereof, they raised up the palaces thereof; and he brought it to ruin.

15 And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing as an harlot.

17 And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the LORD will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her hire, and shall commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth.

18 And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to the LORD: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the LORD, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing. (KJV)

Although ancient Tyre enjoyed a good measure of the wealth which will exist in the future city of Tyre, this biblical prophecy concerning Tyre is a prediction that will be fulfilled in our immediate future. Moreover, in the above scriptural passage, Isaiah also predicts that “the Assyrian,” i.e., the Antichrist, will rebuild the city of Tyre for the benefit of the Chaldeans (during the period of peace and prosperity that will exist on the earth until the pre-tribulation Rapture occurs). Then near the time of Armageddon itself, the city of Tyre will be destroyed and allowed to lie in total ruins for a period of seventy years. But after those seventy years have elapsed, God declares that He will restore the city of Tyre so it can function as an eternal source of food and clothing for people who will serve Him in the city of Jerusalem. Please observe that Isaiah informs us this great city will be rebuilt by the Assyrian, who is none other than the Antichrist. (Isa. 10:5-6; Isa. 10:20-34; Isa. 14:24-27; Isa. 19; Isa. 23:13; Isa. 27:12-13; Isa. 30:18-33; Isa. 31:4-9; Micah 5:3-15; Micah 7:7-20).

Finally, if all other biblical prophecies concerning a future, rebuilt city of Tyre could somehow be explained away, this prophecy would remain as the one prophecy that can be viewed with a very high degree of certainty and confidence!

Because the scripture clearly predicts that seventy years after the final and complete annihilation of the island segment of Tyre, the Lord will visit Tyre and bless her exceedingly so that her merchandise will be available as food and clothing for people who will serve Him in Jerusalem forever. Obviously this prophecy has never been fulfilled, so it must be fulfilled sometime in the future!

Remember that Lebanon is now the center of Hezbollah, and the country is now a terrorist state. So, we will see if the Antichrist will come from there, or have significant activity there.

Is Tyre destined to be part of the “Mystery Babylon” of the future?

  2. Hi again Marianne. Thanks for the regular updates. I’ll exercise a little more ‘tact’ this time and won’t leave you a 3 page message again like I did on my “America is Babylon” article. Sometimes I get a litte over zealous in my opinions. However, I would like you to read another website (when you get an opportunity) that I think makes an excellent case on what I believe about Tyre and that is that it is a prophetic represention of New York City. I know you disagree but we really don’t know for sure so it doesn’t hurt to explore all the angles does it? I believe time is way too short for another Tyre and/or Babylon to be re-established in the way Bible prophecy describes. We are clearly in the last of the last days! The signs are everywhere! The direct link is goodnewspirit.com/tyre.htm Thanks for your article. You make some good points but I just feel in my spirit that New York City is prophetic Tyre. By the way, I loved your article from a few weeks back on “Land of the Giants”. You have such a graceful writing style and that article really hit home for me.

  3. Hi Lynn

Yes. I guess if the whole world thought the sky was blue, I would wonder if there was some red in it somewhere.

I will take a look at the link. By the way, just because I present an alternative view does not mean I am convinced. I am an independent woman, and I have a right to change my mind !!!!!

  4. The whole problem with New York as Babylon, or Rome as Babylon, or Detroit as Babylon or whatever immoral place we want to name Babylon, is that the Bible goes to great lengths to speak of the place. There are 14 mentions of Rome in the Bible. In none of these is Rome ever destroyed; if the word of God meant for us to see Rome as Babylon, it would make that clear. Of the 313 mentions of Babylon is scripture, NONE of them ever imply that Babylon is ever anywhere else. To imply that a city that is constantly cursed and spoken of in the scripture will all of a sudden be another city is a bit far reaching. We must use scripture to judge scripture and not see allegory where the word means none. I believe the reason America is not mentioned in scripture is that it will no longer exist in prophetic denouement. Perhaps the rapture will decimate it to the point it is a non entity. Regardless, America isnt in scripture and Babylon is Babylon (one proof is the consistent mention of a city that is in the plain of Shinar- a far cry from anywhere on our shores). Conflict in Iraq is drawing down. Why? Because it must. There is a deluge of funds pouring into the mid east. My theory? Babylon, the literal, still standing, currently being rebuilt city, will be the next Dubai. Who would have ever thought the wealthy would be able to ski in the middle of the desert? Just some points to consider. SSL.

  5. Hi Amardo,

I agree with you. In fact, you are in agreement with my post, “Babylon is still Babylon,” more than I have here.

    Babylon is still Babylon

Since Babylon has not even been rebuilt yet, and we are running out of time, I thought for a moment, that maybe I was wrong, and I should explore other options, and try to be more open minded about the issue.

But the real Babylon does make sense, and Tyre seems to have a similar, but separate destruction.

People seem to think that the ancient ruins they have uncovered identifies the real ancient city of Babylon. Maybe what they are looking at is the wrong place, and maybe the city has been rebuilt, but it carries a modern name instead. I am not sure. But time will tell, and the right location will be identified. Then God’s word will prove true once more.

The real Babylon location is a real mystery to uncover. We must keeping thinking about it.

  6. Ok i didnt read the entire article here due to time.. but i would like to drop my 2 cents in right quick 🙂 ok, i believe that nyc could be babylon because:

of all the precious stones… and all the gold.. fine linen.. people.. etc.

    world trade center

it housed all the stuff for the world and when it fell people cried and people saw it from abroad.. via the news

    thankyou

  7. hi Derek

Thank you for the 2 cents. All pennies are welcome here. You can come back later, when you have more time, and see what the topic was…. 🙂

  8. i have been reading up alot recently about old sumerian history etc, much of which is on your site, ive read the quentacotzl stuff too and have myself through my own researching come up with alot of the same conclusions as yourself.
sorry i havent read this whole article but thought id throw in my opinion which kinda links everything together.
    babylon is modern day iraq!
i base this upon the fact that sumeria, old mesopotamia were iraq in ancient times and ancient babylon grew up out of the old sumerian/mesopotamian/akkadian beliefs.
i think you’ll also agree that it is very rich, considering it can bring most of the world to its knees with its wealth of oil, (do you remember them burning the oil in the 90’s? i remember seeing it on t.v)which currently sets prices for food, energy you name it at this moment in time throughout the world. just think of saddam husseins palaces were like.
we know its now banrupt so it would fit in with end time propeshies currently would it not?

dont quote me on this but im sure i read something you wrote about it being in 3 parts?
on a map it is separated into 3 parts by rivers and is there currently a vying for government power by 3 different factions of moslems….sunni shi ite and something else?
the island bit of the prophesy would concern kuwait being a tiny little bit of land at the oceans edge much like an island that saddam hussein tried to invade that set the whole thing off years ago.
anyway its just a thought…………..its also not that far from egypt.

  9. Fantastic! Thanks

  10. Hi, Tyre is Satan who was in the garden of Eden. He was behind Babylon and Tyre to hate His people. In this controversy against God and Satan, Satan will be destroyed. The goods which made them rich are the present imports and exports under NWO. The man of sin is Pope. He is a man not God. Pope will gather nations to war with Christ supporting Satan in this.

  11. Hi Marianne !!
Greetings from a fellow follower of Christ in Malaysia..
I was in the midst of preparing a Youth Bible Study on “AUTHORITY, Finality and Sufficiency of the Holy Scriptures” when Google search led me to your work on Tyre !!

I’d like to use some of your material for my message, mentioning about how fulfillment of prophecy validates the Bible.

We are also on facebook.. you may do a search for my full name “Boo Soon Yew” and you’ll see my earlier messages up on my Note page. 🙂

    • Hi Boo

That is fine. Just acknowledge my website, so others can find other topics that might interest them as well. Also, do not sell my information. The Word of God should be free to all those that need it. 🙂

  12. Marianne,
I recently saw a show on the History channel about the ancient city of Tyre and biblical prophecies about it.
As I recall, the old city was completely on the mainland, but when they were about to be invaded, they retreated to the island which was easier to defend (until Alexander of course). After a few major earthquakes, what was left of the city subsided below sea level. Now when archaeologists try to dig up the old city, they are prevented due to the high water table – any diggings are immediately flooded.
So for all intents and purposes, the city will never be found. It has been lost forever.
Maybe the bible was right, a long time ago. No need to look for something new to happen. Kind of like revelation 12/13 which I have said, has already happened. Most people just don’t realize it.

    • Yes James… It was exactly what caught my attention too.
I saw the documentary and remembered how they demonstrated how the invaders (Greeks I think.. or was it the Babylonians?) waded across the waters using goatskin floats !!
It was fascinating to see the lady in the show try out the “smelly” goatskin, blowing it up & floating in water…

  13. Hi Boo,
I didn’t see the show you are referring to but I know the scenario well. It refers to a very famous military maneuver by the forces of Alexander the Great. After destroying the main city he used the rubble to build a causeway to the island and marches his entire Greek army across and destroying the enemy.
As for the water waders, I’m not sure I remember that part. As I said, they never had to enter the water, except perhaps to send a few spies over beforehand. I’ll have to look into that. I’ll look for the show on History channel in case they ever re-run it.

  14. Please read Revelation 17 verus 9,Babylon is the vatican city that sits on seven mountains,if,here is a mind which hath wisdom. Please read all of chapter 17,verus 4,who does that sound like to you she sitteth upon many waters. The true chuch ,Jesus is the head of ,not a man. They who claim to be of judda but do lie and are of the synagogue of satan.Jesus has fortold us all things,Have you not read?

  15. The clue to the true meaning of Babylon is in your Isaiah reference:
Isa 21:9 And, behold, here comes a chariot of men, [with] a couple of horsemen. And he answered and said, Babylon is fallen, is fallen; and all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.

    Revelation 18:2 refers to this:
Rev 18:2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.

It is referring to the pagan practices such as but not limited to graven images. The Roman catholic church is perhaps the greatest offender when it comes to graven images, having deleted the second commandment from their bible. It is not surprising that if Jesus was chastising his largest church that he would use this reference from Isaiah.

And also remember that “Mystery Babylon” was an ancient pagan religion – the basis of Baal worship. It began in Babylon but must not be confused in these scriptures as the city.
Babylon is simply paganism and it exists in every church that worships on SUNday.
God does not Ned to destroy cities or countries but he surely will strip “Babylon“ from his church(es) before his marriage to them can take place.

You can make it sound mysterious and complicated but it is really just that simple.

  16. Well, read rev.17 all of it,in verse15.It tells you Babylon sits on many waters, many nations and many tongues, there is a little of it every where. But the main seat sits on seven hills,Vatican city,The fake church .Babylon means babbel,confusion.Verse18 of chapter17 tell you,the woman which thou sawest is that great city.Very simple,a child could see.Read with understanding,.

  17. IT is no mystery if you come out of confustion,

It is no mystery,if you come out of confustion.Jesus said,I have fortold you all things, have you not read?

It is no mystery,if you come out of confusion.Jesus said,I have fortold you aii things, have you not read? Also it is writing, that God will send you strong delusion, that you should believe a lie,if you want to.

  18. Can my daughter use the picture of the seige on Tyre for a school project.

  19. Has anyone ever given it a think that Babylon just might be Babylon, that great ancient city? Yeah, where is the fun in that?

  20. Hi, I came across your site looking for some information on Tyre and the Garden of Eden connection. Your site is interesting. I wonder about a few things but have no real theories. The king of Tyre was created in the Garden of Eden, This time period would be before noah’s flood, The bible tells us there were Giants on the earth in those days and after that! Would this mean after the flood this fallen one returned or will return, when was satan bound for 1000yrs and then let loose for a short time? could this also be the reference to Tyre. I have also often wondered about Babylon as Rome, One of the things that confuses me, is Rome was ruling over Israel at the time of Jesus (Yahushua)and would have been ruling before his ministry began, although they crucified him many would have learnt and wondered about this man known as theson of God, did not most of them come to believe in him.was Israel its self not seen as the people whom killed the prophets, If Rome was the babylon mentioned when the early church fathers put together the scriptures for us today would they have not understood the scriptures that refered to them? (i do believe there is so much scripture not included in the bible that would better help us to understand the truths, but we can never really know for certin until we see these small amounts we have come true) another couple of things i have observed in scripture that still make no sence to me is the rebuild of Sodom and its villages (that two must be future, unless we missed the rebuild and another distruction) or is the principles and moral of these places to reserface as they have today, like homosexuality, abortion, and all the other immoral thing these places represented, which have crept into our own laws today. “The two sisters” (The sinful sisters Ezekiel 23. and also the prophecy of the belssing of Egypt, Assyria & Israel. Blessed be egypt MY PEOPLE, Assyria the work of my hands, and ISRAEL MY INHERITENCE. (this to me is a mystery. Egypt is gods people? Israel his inheritence, This sounds to be as i am to understand Israel is Gods chosen people, he calls Egypt his people, and Israel will be his inheritence. Today if Egypt is moslem /Islam are they today gods people, at the time of the antichrist and the second coming of Yahushua(jesus) the inheritence is the reminant of the faithful of Israel and those grafted in? Could Mystery babylon still be in Israel as there are many sects of religion still there today? some are orthordox, Catholic, Judisim, etc, could. these are only things i have wondered about. I love The God (yahuah ) of Israel, His nation, his holy land, and i pray for us all to know him and recieve his love.
another thing i have just recently learnt is Israel is concidering making it law to have another day added to their weekend. They are concidering Friday or sunday, this would suit the moslems living in Israel and the christians that dont observe the sabbath, one has to ask what could the conquences be if this happens? Israel may not intend for it to be used in a worship way as they are considering it as only another day of rest, could this be against their Torah. I can only pray they seek Yahuah (god) before they make a bad decision.
    Bless you all

    • hi Trevena

Most of your questions are not that clear to me.

The king of Tyre was Satan. He has been around the entire time.

Romans were witnessed to by Paul, and many converted to Christianity.

      Babylon is
      1. a place in Iraq.
      2. a religious and political system associated with the beast.

Any place in the world can participate this Babylonian system.

Sodom is gone . However its spirits continue to infect the earth.

Assyria and Egypt have a lot of Christians who have suffered for their faith, and God acknowledges this.

I have no comment about the extended weekend in Israel. Maybe people want more time off.

  21. I truly love my Lord And want to learn all I can.
I like to read my bible and I ask God to give understanding but I find
it very hard to comprehend some of the meanings, the way they are
worded . What can I do to come to a better understanding of the way it is written? please reply

    God bless
    ken from north carolina

    • hi Ken

Some things written are mysteries, but they can be discerned with prayer and study. It is meant that we dig deep and learn.

Also, discussion with others helps to understand difficult passages.

You can come online here and ask questions also, and also at your local church. See what they have to say.

I am from NC too – Raleigh.

    • Hi Ken,
One thing that might help you is to learn prophecy code – certain words that have specific meanings when used in prophecy. By learning these words it will make the reading of prophecy much more clear.
      Here is a partial list:

      Prophecy Code

      Good luck and keep studying.

  22. Hi Marrianne, I just stumbled across your blog yesterday and I was so thrilled to see that another person saw these events EXATLY the same way as I do. I have driven my family crazy for years saying its not Rome, I just dont see why its so hard to take Gods word for what it says. Even more exciting is that you see the Assyrian as the Anti christ as well. I have highlighted all the passages of tbe Assyrian since I was 13 almost 30 years ago. No one ever agrees with me but I know it is all in Gods timing and we will all see clearly what is His true plan. Thank you for your site and for being openminded about your thoughts and instructing others to respect other opinions in love.

    • hi Dena

thanks for the vote of support. I have those who do not believe me either. 🙂

watch turkey…..it was part of the assyrian empire, as well as the greek and roman empires.

  23. I have went through all the possibilities for Mystery Babylon, and I keep coming back to Tyre and Babylon(the babylon in the land of Shinar). Your article is very helpful. May the Lord of glory lead His people into all truth.

    • hi Michael

Physically, babylon is located in the land of shinar.

Globally, its influence is everywhere, so I see both a physical collapse and a collapse of its influence, which will be a social, spiritual and financial collapse for all who adhere to its principles.

  24. Michael,
Mystery Babylon was the main religion of ancient Babylon at the time of Nimrod and Semiramus. It worshipped a false savior, Tammuz, who was born on Dec. 25. Semiramus was his “virgin” mother and was celebrated as the “Queen of Heaven” at the spring equinox called “Ishtar” (Easter). Practices included Xmas trees, yule logs and gifts on Dec 25, plus a 40 day fast (Lent) before Ishtar where they decorated eggs and made hot cross buns.
This “Babylon Mystery” religion existed until the reign of Constantine who merged it with Christianity and other Roman pagan practices around 300 AD. Some of these include Sunday worship. Easter sunrise services, holy water, wedding rings, nuns (vestal virgins), alter boys (an alternative for high priests who preferred little boys to women) and dozens of other Roman religious institutions. Also kept were Roman statues and other graven images (names were changed to saints etc.) such that the church had to remove the second commandment from the bible. (Still gone from the catholic bible).
Once you know this, it is easy to see why God would want to destroy it before Christ returns to marry the church.
Now if you still think God would rather destroy a city, you will have to come up with a whopper of a good reason for Him to do so. It is not enough to scour the bible for verses and maps and history books to try to come up with fanciful theories as to what all the words mean. You must understand the mind of God. A God of love does not pick out a city to blow up to prove He can fulfill prophecy. But he does have to correct His people from time to time if they have gone astray, as he has done in ancient times.

So you got to ask yourself this question, “Will God fix His own church or will He blow up the city of Tyre (or whatever)? “
It’s a matter of priorities, wouldn’t you agree?
So which do you think is more important to Him?
    Bless.

  25. This may sound strange but it always occurs to me as if London is like Babylon aswell used to dominate the stock market gave america the power to take over it, it has been said once that it is the modern Babylon by some sailor due its buildings and its trade. I agree also with James that catholicism is a candidate and its derivatives to being the Babylon mystery religion.

It is also said after the falling away (which I am not clear on) that this person is exposed

  26. Marianne,
Do you know anything about the “Druze” sect of Islam, or any contact with them? Stumbled across them in my studies, and am quite intrigued. (My name has nothing to do with them in case anyone is curious!) I am Intrigued, because they are based in lebanon primarily, and the king of Tyre, may be involved? If you know what I mean? Interesting sect, though, that we do not hear much about, I understand they are in Israel too.

    • hi dru

The druse are different. They live in peace with the Jews in Israel, and serve in the IDF. I would not connect them with the king of Tyre. I would first connect Hezbollah with Satan, more than any other group in Lebanon.

  27. Marianne,
I agree Hezbollah has a more dubious history with regard to Israel, but Just in my limited study of the “druse”, they, and their leaders seem to be “untouchable”, and shift allegiences with whoever is the strong party. Not to mention their beliefs in deifying men. They have allied with hezbollah, and then with the U.S. , and they seem to jump allegiences. I understand that they are a minority in the region, but they wield alot of influence. Because of their positive history in Israel, it makes them even more likely to making a “covenent” with them, which they then break. Just my thoughts, though. They may well be the “peaceful muslims” everybody talks about, But You know me, I look for the wolves in sheeps clothing.

I am still working on those timelines, though, which will hopefully enlighten you as to why I began looking into the druse.

  28. Tyre was rebuilt, but some of it was left as ruins because they are historical artefacts. Aside from this (about 10% of the area of the city) the city has been entirely rebuilt.

Also, Nebuchadnezzar did NOT destroy Tyre as the Bible says. Even Alexander the great did not entirely destroy it, and the city is much more than a place for fishermen to throw their nets.

Cherry pick all you want. The prophecy specifically says that Nebuchadnezzar would destroy Tyre, and he did not.

  29. the Bible says Nebuchadnezzar would destroy Tyre and it would never be rebuilt, and both of these are blatantly wrong.

    • daniele

The prophecy is two fold…both historical and futuristic.

Some of it was fulfilled with the king of babylon

Some of it will be fulfilled in the future.

also re-read the post and the explanation of what seems to be a contradiction above…

People can repopulate an area that is destroyed, today, Tyre is just a fishing village….not a metropolis booming with trade.

  30. I don’t think Babylon is a place. I think it is a symbol for something which human beings do worldwide. I think Babylon is “the World of Pleasure without the God of Truth”. I think that Babylon will be left desolate and uninhabited by human beings because the rulers of the nations will hate Babylon and bring it to ruin.

I think, for the fifth time, that the “World of Pleasure without the God of Truth” is beginning to be hated by the rulers of the nations. For example, the EU rulers are hating Greece for its life of pleasure and are applying austerity, which is depopulating that country by emigration and suicide and birth reduction.

I think that this economic Armageddon will spread throughout the whole of Babylon, ie throughout the nations of the world, and will be followed by a “battle” with the God of Truth himself.

I think your website is marvellous and I am encouraged to persevere in trying to understand Tyre in relation to Babylon.

    • thank you aristotle

If you have any extra insights into Tyre, let me know.

      • I am surprised that you have not responded to anything else I have just written. Maybe my ideas are barking mad so that “extra insights” into Tyre will be just as insane.

        • I did read your whole comment, but just responded to part of it, as babylon is a different topic.

I agree with you, as Babylon may be spiritual, not geographical.

babylon is gone as a kingdom, although Iraq and the surrounding territories are still there.

tyre is partly gone, but lebanon is still there.

so if there is a spiritual babylon, will there be a spiritual tyre as well?

that is what i was getting at.

  31. Thanks for your quick response, Marianne. Your comparative list of biblical items regarding Babylon and Tyre is very helpful. In fact, so close are the descriptions of these two entities that I am thinking that Tyre is also part of the symbol of the “World of Pleasure without the God of Truth”.

If so, then Tyre is a statement past, present and future, about this human behavioural concept of “pleasure without God”, without the God who revealed himself to Ezekiel and right through the New Testament.

There is a verse somewhere in the NT ( James, I think) which says that human behaviour is either for profit or pleasure (or both). This is probably true with very little altruism in human behaviour.

Certainly, the people of Tyre traded in the Mediterranean Sea, right over to Tarsish in Spain, for profit, which was a pleasure in itself or, at least, freedom from boredom, and also the means whereby pleasure could be purchased.

Your quote from Isaiah 23:17, where Tyre is described as “committing fornication with all the kingdoms on the face of the earth”, fits the idea that it is, like Babylon, a symbol of “worldwide pleasure without the Lord God”. After all, fornication or sexual intercourse outside marriage is the most enjoyed, most available, most repeatable and most worldwide of all the human pleasures.

Tyre does not have to have worldwide authority now or in the future, if it is a symbol of “pleasure without God”. It does not have to have a present or a future as a city, if the city it was, prior to Nebuchanezzar, became, for us now and in the future, the symbol of “pleasure without the God of Truth”.

    • Aristotle,
You are correct that Babylon does not represent an actual city but a false religion, or more correctly, elements of a great Babylonian religion called “Mystery Babylon” that was the basis of Baal worship. These pagan elements were incorporated into the Universal Roman church by emperor Constantine. This false church is the woman that rides the beast in Revelation. It must be destroyed before Jesus returns since He can’t marry an apostate church.
Your idea that pleasure is the culprit is largely true but much of the paganism is not based on pleasure but simply lawbreaking.
As for the idea that Tyre will soon be rebuilt -”Tyre must be rebuilt so that all the kings of the world can become wealthy by the multitude and abundance of her riches and treasures” is simply illogical. It will never happen.
A quick look at history will show how long it takes for a great city to develop. Look at New York, Chicago, L.A. and see how long it took them to become “great” in a nation as rich as the U.S. and then imagine how a country like Lebanon could create such a city in the short time before the Second Coming. It just can’t be done.
Even if a New World Order formed tomorrow and an antichrist took over the world next week, he couldn’t build such a city in just 3-1/2 years, and only such a powerful man summoning the economic forces of the whole world could even attempt such a project.
And why would the antichrist even attempt to do it? Unless he wanted to fulfil bible prophecy. But then he would also know that he must fail, so why should he bother to prove God was right? It doesn’t make any sense any way you look at it.
This is another case of reading the bible and making a false assumption, then creating a scenario that fits the assumption with no regard to whether of not it could ever be accomplished. It’s been done for the New World Order, One-World Government, One-World religion and One world Currency – all of which are false.
If you wait for a “New Tyre” to arrive you have a long wait. Same is true for the New World Order and Nibiru. I hope no one here will miss the real tribulation while waiting for unbelievable things that will never happen.

      • Mystery Babylon = USA = Protestantism

        • Classic Catholic church response.
Funny – the pope says atheists can get into heaven but not Protestants. Wow, he sure knows how to hold a grudge.
But don’t fret, almost all protestant churches are still part of Mystery Babylon so you will all be in the same boat soon.
          And sadly, the boat will sink. :{

      • Jim,

I am a Protestant if other side of Christianity group is Catholic. But I believe in Christ Jesus as my Savior. I also know many Catholics love Jesus Christ. will the misled sheep be banished by our Merciful Savior? Atheist’s denied the very existence of the Almighty G-d. If they were made to serve Satan blindly, shall G-d give them mercy when they repent not? I was a kind of atheist, born in a communism country. there are tones of people like the old me who had no idea of the knowledge of G-d and the understanding of Salvation. shall they be saved if they served the evil all life long? My opinion is No. if they were the tools of Satan, they will perish. on any battle field, bullets cannot be spared for any aggressive enemies.
The Bible is prophetic. I came to this site as I was wondering where Tyre was and is now. One thing after reading this thread, many of you were still arguing something from your intellectual. Is the new heaven about our intellectual?

        • Dear Hanson,
At the end of the millennium there will be a second resurrection and the Great White Throne Judgement where everyone ever born will be judged and either be given eternal life or destroyed in the Lake of Fire. But before this happens those priests and teachers who were in the first resurrection will have the task to let these people, including pagans and atheists,
about the one true God – who He is and what He expects from His followers. If they repent from their sins and truly want to follow Yahweh they may be forgiven and enter into the kingdom of God and live in the city of New Jerusalem which will come down from heaven and be home to all Gods peoples.
So there is hope for sinners and atheists alike but eternal life is not for everyone. Many Muslims will no doubt ask for the Lake of Fire in the hopes that their second death with send them to a heaven with 70 virgins and rivers flowing with wine. And the Hindus might expect to end up in Nirvana or wherever. Some will refuse to worship any God and prefer to die over living forever. And maybe some devout Catholics will think that by dying (again) they will end up in heaven where they originally thought they’d be going when they died the first time. Who knows. Anything is possible.
Sin and ignorance can be overcome. God is merciful and He gives us all free will, so anything is possible.

  32. Are there seven hills in Tyre? Is one broken?
