Short Wave Communications Off Alaska Coast

There are currently Russian and Chinese ships off the Alaska coast, which are communicating by short wave radio.
They are about 30 miles off the coast, so they are not in international waters.
The short wave communications are in code, the messages are being examined by military.
The communications are also interfering with US air traffic control signals, and so could cause accidents.

There are some thoughts that the Chinese hold USA responsible for the recent nuclear explosion in one of its cities.

I had heard in the news that Russia and China were holding training exercises, but where those exercises were I don’t recall. Chinese war ships were spotted off the coast of Alaska during Obama’s visit. There was also a report in the news yesterday about a Russian “spy sub” capable of either listening in on or even “cutting” transmission lines that are along the ocean floor, off the coast of Florida.
Just an FYI – here in Northern California our phones are out from Sonoma to Eureka, sporadic but major areas are out. The phones are down throughout the entire town where I live, which means no banking, no credit card transactions, in addition to not being able to make phone calls, land lines as well as cell phones. Our Internet and Bay Area TV was also out for about 6 hours. We now have Internet and TV back but the phones supposedly will be out at least a day and perhaps a few. Not sure what that is all about.

Dan – Phones are back up this morning. Apparently a fiber optic cable was intentionally cut, south of Ukiah, somewhere around Hopland. There have been several “sabotages” (around 12) that have occurred in the SF Bay Area just this year.

I’m wondering about a possible EMP…
EMPs are always the first that comes to mind for me whenever there is any sort of radio interference, power outages, or phones going down. Yesterday, 9/2, was the anniversary of the geomagnetic mega storm that fried what electric grids we had some 150 years ago.
However spaceweather.com is reporting that solar X-ray output is actually flat lining right now as solar activity is currently very low with no flare producing sunspots.

I was a communication technician for the US Navy back in the early ‘70’s and we were spying on the Russian subs all around the world. We did so becaused we had broken their code and they didn’t realize it at the time. That information was Top Secret and when I left the service I had to sign a paper that said I would not reveal the secret for a number of years.

You have committed a traitorous act. You have revealed to the enemy that they need to change their codes ASAP.
You may have simply read it somewhere, but you are not supposed to pass it on. Just because you found a bomb-making technique somewhere on the web doesn’t mean you should pass it on to others.
No need for excuses. You just didn’t think about it because you didn’t know any better.

This is nothing new or even noteworthy. We spy with satellites nowadays. The listening (spy) staions I used to work at in the navy have all been torn down. No more spy ships (like the USS Pueblo) or even land-based stations. Everything is done from space. They closed down the Naval Security Group – thousands of sailors are no longer needed.
And the Russians are still using spy ships? How 16th century!
