Is the Jewish Messiah just a Man?

One of the general points of disagreement between Christians and Jews is how to identify the Messiah. They both agree that he will be Jewish, but disagree on who he is and his “nature.” Christians believe that only someone with a divine nature could accomplish the mission, and the Jews believe the Messiah is a man only.

I only wish to address the humanity of the Messiah, so this will be short. Consider the following passages and what they could mean.

Prediction of the birth of the Messiah

Mic 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, [though] thou be little among the thousands of Judah, [yet] out of thee shall he come forth unto me [that is] to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth [have been] from of old, from everlasting.

***the ruler is “from everlasting” which cannot describe a normal human. Only God exists from everlasting to everlasting.

Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

The Branch is the Servant.

Zec 3:8 Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they [are] men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH.
Zec 3:9 For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone [shall be] seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, says the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day.

When did this happen- when did iniquity get removed from Israel – in one day?

Isa 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
Isa 53:5 But he [was] wounded for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace [was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed

Isa 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

*** So far, only Jesus, the Son of God, has done this, unless there will be another volunteer.

Daniel 7:13-14

The Son of Man appears before the Ancient of Days. This occurs after the 4th beast (anti-Christ) is revealed in the end times, and destroyed in verse 11. To this Son of Man is given the kingdom and the glory.

v 13 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, [one] like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.

v 14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion [is] an

everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom [that] which shall not be destroyed.

****However, it says in Isaiah 42:8

I [am] the LORD: that [is] my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

There must be something special about the Son of Man, since only God is worthy of glory. He is not an ordinary man, but must have a divine nature, since he is worthy of God’s glory.   Since the messiah, “the branch”, was to rule as God’s servant, and rule on His throne in glory, the “Son of Man” and the messiah are the same person.

Daniel sees the Messiah then, already existing in heaven with the Father God, and he is called the Son of Man. The Messiah is a “man” but has divine qualities, and is seen living in heaven at the time of Daniel.

Zech 6:12-13Thus speaks the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name [is] The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD:

Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.

*** Once again, it says in Isaiah 42:8

I [am] the LORD: that [is] my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

Conclusion

The Branch, the Servant of the Lord, is more than a man. He bears the glory of God, and removes iniquity. So far, only one person in history has come to accomplish this. His name is Jesus, Yeshua.

Note

This study is only to answer this one question. So why isn’t there peace, with the lion laying down with the lamb?

Messiah was to make 2 trips here, not one, and it was predicted in the book of Daniel. If one carefully reads the text, one can see this. So what was not done the first time, will be accomplished the second time, just as prophesied.

  5. Hi Hill,

When people are not interested in a particular question, and its answer, they do not pursue it, to find out what the bible says about it. When they are interested, they do pursue it until satisfied.

I have never heard a Christian adequately explain this, so I went looking for the answers myself. If we do not have good explanations for our beliefs, then why should others believe us?

  6. Rabbi Reveals Name of the Messiah
Shortly before he died, one of Israel’s most prominent rabbis wrote the name of the Messiah on a small note which he requested would remain sealed until now. When the note was opened, it revealed what many have known for centuries: Yehoshua, or Yeshua (Jesus), is the Messiah.

A few months before he died, one of the nation’s most prominent rabbis, Yitzhak Kaduri, supposedly wrote the name of the Messiah on a small note which he requested would remain sealed until now. When the note was unsealed, it revealed what many have known for centuries: Yehoshua, or Yeshua (Jesus), is the Messiah.

With the biblical name of Jesus, the Rabbi and kabbalist described the Messiah using six words and hinting that the initial letters form the name of the Messiah. The secret note said:

Concerning the letter abbreviation of the Messiah’s name, He will lift the people and prove that his word and law are valid.

This I have signed in the month of mercy,
    Yitzhak Kaduri

The Hebrew sentence (translated above in bold) with the hidden name of the Messiah reads: Yarim Ha’Am Veyokhiakh Shedvaro Vetorato Omdim

  7. Just as Joseph, this “lord of the Gentiles”, revealed himself to his brothers and did not condemn them, so will Yeshua, who for 1800 years was Lord of the Gentiles, reveal Himself to His natural brethren and not condemn them, for He came to save and not to condemn the lost sheep of the House of Israel.

As the prophetic clock and timetable of God bring all of us ever nearer to the close of this age, Jesus will more and more be revealing Himself to His brothers, the Jews, as He did to Rabbi Kaduri. It is a fulfillment of the story of Joseph. I suspect that ‘Joseph’ (Who became a ruler over Gentiles and is a faithful type of Jesus) can no longer restrain Himself from revealing Himself to His brothers.

…just as Yeshua, Blessed Be He, revealed Himself to me personally in the summer of 2008!!!

Gen. 45:1 Then Joseph could not restrain himself before all those who stood by him, and he cried out, “Make everyone go out from me!” So no one stood with him while Joseph made himself known to his brothers.
Gen. 45:2 And he wept aloud, and the Egyptians and the house of Pharaoh heard it.
Gen. 45:3 Then Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph; does my father still live?” But his brothers could not answer him, for they were dismayed in his presence. (NKJV)

    • gavriel

when did the rabbi live? It looks like he wrote on a post – it note, but his son is 80 years old.

    • gavriel

extra note- the article said this:

documented in Zechariah 6:11 and Ezra 3:2. The same priest writes in Ezra, “Yeshua son of Yozadak” while writing in Zechariah “Yehoshua son of Yohozadak.” The priest adds the holy abbreviation of God’s name, ho, in the father’s name Yozadak and in the name Yeshua.

it does not say Yeshua ben Yosef of Yeshua ben David either – so how would a christian explain that the father is named Yohozadak?

    • Nobody will be condemned IF they accept and not reject His good teaching. Therein lies reality. Hosea 4

  8. marianne,

Rabbi died at the age of 108 two years ago.

Text of Zecheriah and Ezra have nothing to with Jesus, it shows the pattern that the name of the same person can be written in two ways, namely that Yeshua ben Yozadak is the same person as Ye-HO-shua ben Ye-HO-zadak…contrary to anti-messianic Jews who would argue that Yehoshua is not the same as Yeshua.

  9. ALEXIA
    From here; no plain call
    Can cut off the eyes
    Than
    Like such from the hall
    Hanging boldly on the wall
    Reading: “MENE— MENE…”

Dark minds of life here in disannex
From the ordained working of the bee–
True to make see through the bionix
Flair and intermit the interlude to a fix
For Space to make eyes real see.

Throw talk through tables to tall.
Trouble first truced in the Eve–
As alexia first hit out hard to an intermix
And truth first came to an interface
While man knowing fear came to a fall.

Take no base line seeing that coming pree
    Like the spree,
Lest you halt from a hit of the hallux
And turn low blind from the knee
To only wake you up to the prefix
Which was to be held tall in the mal wheel.

  10. THE REIGN OF ETERNAL LOVE
    AS
    THE KING COMES TO EARTH

The trumpet of the LORD is sounding,
The parade to His paradise is in the paradox,
Every paramount parcel calls for a wet paint!

    Terrible times existing in an exotic expose;
What an express to exscind sin,
It sounds clearer here for extrication.

    Stay set!
The day is a double doubt.
    You can hear the call.

    Love comes to earth eternally,
A thousand years of His reign is universal as
    The King comes to earth.

    Tolerance and peace arise,
Awakening of righteousness is in His solo,
Goodness and holiness a must to hallo,
Love reigns eternal on earth as
    The King comes to earth.

  11. Who is the Jewish Messiah?
are you talking about The Saviour
    Of the whole wide world?

    Then
He is not just a man.
He is God, The Holy Spirit, & a Supernatural Man.
Are you refering to the Jews alone?
    Of no doubt,
he may be just a man.

    Note my perspective
because JESUS CHRIST is not “just a man”.
