Dow – 1937 vs 2008, now, and war

Is the pattern repeating itself?

I got this chart from an ad by Stansberry & Associates Investment Research.

This is for those of you who put your trust in money or the material world.

This is how unstable the economy is, when it is in the hands of man, not God.

There may be a recovery after several years, just like after 1942, but we cannot be certain of that.

Chart showing the crashes of 1928 (complete by 1932), and 1937 (complete by 1938):

What brought the economy back out of a depression was a war, which put people back to work.

Suppose the next war does not do this, because so many people die?

The weapons are different now. They are nuclear, and people will not be able to survive a nuclear blast.

There may never be a magic climb back up the stock market.

The prosperity of the 1940s – 1950s may never happen again.

What the bible says about trusting in riches:

Mar 8:36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

Pro 11:28 He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.

Psa 49:6   They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;

Psa 49:7   None [of them] can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:

1Ti 6:17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;

War during bad economic times

70 years ago on September 1st 1939, Germany invaded Poland without warning sparking the start of World War Two.

By the evening of September 3rd, Britain and France were at war with Germany and within a week, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa had also joined the war.

The world had been plunged into its second world war in 25 years.

Six long and bloody years of total war, fought over many thousand of square kilometres followed.

The United States and The Soviet Union joined in by 1941, 2 years after the start.

Marked by significant events involving the mass death of civilians, including the Holocaust and the only use of nuclear weapons in warfare, it was the deadliest conflict in human history, resulting in 50 million to over 70 million fatalities.

The war ended in 1945, 6 years later.

Now that we have passed the 2 year mark, is there another world war 3 in our future for America, and the world?

  1. The statistics are interesting but the timing is off. According to history the U.S. will join WW3 in 2 years. While I suppose something could trigger such a war in the near future (Iran or N. Korea come to mind) it would not fit with the events in bible prophecy.
Besides, countries don’t go to war just because their economies are down, especially when the rest of the world is in basically the same condition. I don’t think the DOW averages are any better a clue to prophecy than eclipses or signs on the planet Jupiter or imaginary planets like Nibiru. When God sends us a sign we won’t have to look for it in the Wall Street Journal.
So I wouldn’t take this too seriously and trade in your condo for a cave in Alaska, at least not just yet.
    You’ll know when…

    • hi James

I think the timing above is consistent with the 2 years you mentioned.

WW 2 started in 1939, America entered in 1941 , 2 years later.

If WW 3 started at end of 2010, America would enter at the end of 2012.

Now we see if there is a war anytime soon, and then wait to see what America will do.

  2. Hi Marianne,
So are you saying this coming war will be the war of Daniel, occurring under the reign of the Antichrist?
And that it will start in the next 2 weeks? (2010 is almost over!)
Who is the modern-day Hitler with the desire and means to conquer the world? Who are his allies in this war?
I’m afraid the world is a far different place than back in 1947 and the politics don’t jive with the market activity.
Plus you only have a single sample to base your theory on. You know the scientific method won’t let you extrapolate from a single event. We would have to have had several wars with a similar market pattern to infer anything useful. This is a simple coincidence.
And if this is to be the last war ending with the return of Christ, then we must be already in the tribulation time, so where is the Antichrist? What happened to the rapture?
You are putting way too much faith in DOW-Jones as a confirmation of bible prophecy. The whole thing reminds me of all the doom and gloom YouTube videos predicting the end of the world etc. Someone is just looking for a little attention – until history proves him to be just another idiot.
    We’ll see…

    • hi James

No, I am not saying that. Everything is just an estimate. And I did not indicate which war it would be. Or who is involved. I do not say something will happen in 2 weeks.

This is just a general pattern.

I personally believe that a wide scale rapture will not occur until at the 6th seal, which is after the white horse, black horse, red horse and pale horse rides. So we would be around for war.

We already have war. It is just not on American soil yet.

So far, we are blessed to avoid this, but there is no guarantee that this blessing will continue, especially since this country, steeped in sin, exalting immorality, no longer deserves the blessing of peace. I believe the only thing protecting us now is our sheltering of Israel.

Once we abandon Israel, I believe American will be attacked by enemies, which has already started in 911. Except the future attacks will be greater and more devastating. Obama is currently pressuring Israel to give up more land, or America will not help defend it against Iran. That is blackmail. Once Israel and Jerusalem is further divided, and betrayed by Obama, it becomes vulnerable to attack by its enemies. We will suffer for this action against Israel.

I am not using the Dow as a confirmation of prophecy. I am looking at the coincidence of the Dow from 1937 and 2008. History repeats itself to some degree, so we wait to see how MUCH it repeats. And there will be new aspects that are not a repetition.

  3. Marianne,
Thanks for the clarification. When you mentioned WW3 in the article I assumed it was the final war during the tribulation. But you brought up an interesting point in that the US is already at war and we have been since before the new Dow pattern emerged. The first one was a precursor to war but this one seems to be a result of a war.
I’m just saying that when you compare the Dow to actual world events there is no correlation and America does not go to war in response to the stock market. I’m sure there may be a few more wars before the WW3 of the tribulation but I don’t think in this case that history is repeating itself and that a war similar to WWII is in the works. A limited war perhaps, but that would not be the same thing. In your article you suggest a major conflagration is about to erupt involving many countries, but NOT yet the US. I don’t see that happening anytime soon.
Also, you haven’t made a case as to why this pattern represents a precursor to a major war. How did the Dow in 1940 illustrate the political and economic conditions that led to a world war. Were the same conditions in place before WW1? Are they in place today? If the previous Dow pattern didn’t actually have a direct correlation to world events leading to WW2 then how might they be valid today? As a scientist or even a historian you must first answer these questions before proclaiming that an event that might kill millions of people is about to happen. Sure, we can proclaim it if is God’s word from the bible (although many might disagree), but to look at some squiggly lines on a graph and proclaim doomsday is a bridge too far I think.
War is like a scientific equation filled with many variables and unknowns and they must all be considered and calculated before solving the equation. You can’t take one item out of context and make a prediction from it.
I’m a big horse racing fan (my Dad was a jockey) and I can tell you that even if you could get all the runners and jockeys from last year’s Kentucky Derby together again a year later and run the race again, you’ll never get the same results – you need to handicap the thing all over again.
So a Dow pattern from 1940 means little or nothing in 2010 in my opinion. Certainly not enough to base world events on. I’ll bet even the stock market players aren’t basing their investments based on the prior pattern.
I am therefore relegating this one to the silly but interesting coincidences pile along with eclipses and Jupiter signs et al. Sorry but I just can’t bring myself to take it too seriously.
Let’s see what happens though… You never know.

  4. Hi Marianne,
I have some detailed information about all of this which is quite startling. At least as far as the stock market goes. I am unable to put it on the blog. Is there some other way to get it to you?

  5. Marianne,

There is a pattern in our economy and it does show up in the stock market. Without the graphs and input of some key dates, it is for the most part hard to put together. The graphs show what I feel to be an undeniable future economic event. It will also bring with it other events. It is extremely interesting. I was waiting for you to post a blog dealing with this subject.
