Baptism of the Holy Spirit & Tongues

holy-spirit.jpg

**At salvation, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell with us, and help us on our faith journey. Many people find this adequate, and wish no more than this, and are happy. All believers have the Holy Spirit. The baptism spoken of here is a different experience, and involves a special infilling of the Spirit in a more intimate way, for the purpose of private prayer, intercession, and prophesy.

Introduction

The baptism of the Holy Spirit is a real experience with God, and usually manifests itself with the gift of tongues (heavenly, mystery language). There are those now who do fake it, and there are those who have the real gift, and there are those who are witch hunters, trying to denounce every act of God, in order to quench what they perceive as fake. There is a mindset that thinks since they do not have it, then it must not be real, because they think they are so holy, that they should have more gifts than others. It is this very prideful mindset that prevents them from receiving the real experience. To be fair, this bitterness may also be due to bad experiences with the fake experience, and now they think everything is fake.

A sincere pursuit of the real baptism will be met with God’s acceptance, and a positive response will occur. A negative pursuit for the wrong reasons will either end up with failure, or a demonic counterfeit. No sincere believer wants that to happen.

The baptism is made possible by the salvation relationship one has with Jesus Christ, who asks the Father to send the Holy Spirit to those who believe in Him. Unbelievers cannot receive this experience. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is for the glory of god and to worship God in a more powerful and holy way. The Holy Spirit guides our spirit into a sense of worship, speaking into our spirits the perfect will of God.

Preparing one’s heart

So, one must examine his heart to see if their intentions are pure. This is a holy experience, and it may be used quietly in public at times when others are praying also in tongues, but it should never be used for public display, or to draw attention to one’s self. The baptism with tongues is all about God, not the person. The only openly acceptable public utterance will be when the Holy Spirit is using it for a prophetic word to the entire congregation, and there is an interpreter present.

Receiving the Baptism

Receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit is equivalent to receiving a person, not a “thing.” So, the baptism is a “Him,” not an “it.” Proper indwelling requires a yielded vessel, repentant, loving, humble, submissive to God. One could receive the baptism by the laying on of hands, but it must be without public pressure or coaching. The Holy Spirit can fill a person without man’s help. The real baptism is NOT a learned experience, but quite the opposite. The baptism is God filling the person the person with Himself.

The person should be willing to speak out in faith, and allow the Holy Spirit to take over the natural language they are using in their prayers. Sometimes it helps not to speak a natural language, but to just utter sounds, in order to disconnect their minds from trying to influence the initiation of the baptism. This is done, knowing that these are just sounds to relax the person and their tongue, and not a real language. Many times, people feel so self conscious with others around, they cannot receive this gift. It is best then, to go and be alone with God, and let Him minister to them without anyone around.

There is also a proper timing for things of God, so one should not get discouraged if they ask, and there is a delay. A delay is not a denial. There may be a delay because there is something spiritually blocking the person, such a fear, self conscious feelings, doubt, sin, confusion about what the baptism is, need for acceptance or attention, etc. The person needs to relax, be humble, and trust God.

Speaking in tongues comes from the spirit of the person, under the influence of the Holy Spirit, who overshadows the person’s spirit.

However, the source of the activity is the spirit, not the brain. No one can get their brain to do this…the brain may be affected by it though.

Prayer life with the baptism

I speak and pray in tongues for about 2 hours a day. Sometimes, I have gone longer than that. I have an active prayer life. This is a gift which is given to those for service, intercession and prayer. It is meant to be a protected prayer language to avoid attack by dark spiritual forces, which can hear prayers and form plans against what they hear. It is also a humble experience, because one is usually kept from the interpretation, to show the person there is so much they do not know, that God does. In the prayer, the Holy Spirit helps the person pray perfectly in God’s will, so that the prayers will be answered.

There are times when the interpretation is made known, maybe in part or completely. This is for the edification of the person. I am aware of what certain words mean when I pray…I hope in time, that more meaning comes to me.

Note:

It is not a dream, and is done consciously…. although the person is not controlling the words spoken.

I hope that this helps others understand this experience a little better. God is real and working today, and one must not let cynicism, or disbelief, keep them from receiving what god has for them.

There does not need to be a special prayer to receive the baptism of the holy spirit. Use your own words. Just ask the Father in Jesus name for this. You do not need a recipe. The Father wants to hear from you. If you do not get a prayer language right away, that is ok. Continue in faith. If you need it, the Holy Spirit will give it to you at the proper time.

For the one who asks, “are the tongues real or fake?” I would say this: Scripture says a good tree produces good fruit. If the tongues are real, the person will be guided by the Holy Spirit, be reverent and humble with their gift, and will not abuse the gift for selfish purposes. Also, if the person has asked sincerely, then they should expect to receive in faith what they asked for. If they, instead, have acquired the tongues by an artificial means, somehow “learning” what to do, or made up something under pressure of others to please them, then the tongues most likely will not be real.

Steps to receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit

1. repent of all sins

( if you are new to salvation, be sure you understand what sin is, and what activities are sins. You cannot repent of something if you do not know it is wrong.)

2. renounce sin – make a decision that you will not do these things any more. get public baptism, if possible.

3. you must surrender totally to the power of the Holy Spirit. You must obey Him, as He will expect you to give your life to God.

4. Desire the gift with all your heart ( John 7:37)

5. Ask in faith.

6. Worship God. The spirit comes as you actively pursue His presence. Do not be passive about it.

7. Be patient. The gift could come quickly, or after a time.

8. Open your mouth and speak in faith. Do not use your own language. Just utter sounds, to show submission and willingness, and allow the Holy Spirit to convert these sounds into a prayer language. You will know the difference between your own sounds, and a change to another language that you have no control over.

Clarification:

Maybe I should re-word some things I say. To disconnect the brain is only referring to the moment when you receive the baptism.  It just means do not let it be a mental activity, where you force some artificial behavior on yourself.

There are churches who “teach” tongues, and people “learn” tongues. For me, to disconnect the brain really means to stop using your own mind to control the activity, and let God take over and do it correctly. That way, you get the true gift, and not the counterfeit.

But of course, we should use our minds, and fill them with the Word of God, so we are not deceived.

For anyone, we have unconscious pressures that influence our readiness. We have to examine our motives, and ignore expectations of others to “do it their way.” Or sometimes, god just wants us to learn patience and wisdom first, so that we use our gift the right way.

There can be delays to receiving the baptism of the holy spirit, but when God thinks you are ready, and you also know in your heart you are ready, everything will work out fine, and occur in a way that will inspire you.

  1. So would it not be better to pray in silence where the enemy cannot hear ! her closet.

Matt 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

  2. True, most prayer should be done alone. There maybe times when corporate prayer is needed, then it should be done in one’s own language. It would have to be a special circumstance to pray in tongues with others around. If so, then done quietly, and in order.

  3. Having exeperienced both private and coporate prayer I would say that as I have noticed….but forms of prayer have helped me at different times in life. During a medical procedure I was able to use tongues to cope. I use tongues in a private way and I feel the Lord’s presence.

  4. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, so that others may understand this better.

    • I spoke in tongue twice in the natural but in my dreams when am under spiritual attack only when I speak in tongues the spirit leave . Why am I not able to speak in tongues again

      • afreka

it sounds like you are expecting the holy spirit to make the decision to speak in tongues.

it is actually your decision, and then he helps.

so make an active decision to speak in tongues, and be patient with the results….and ask the holy spirit to help you pray in tongues in when you need to do this.

  5. **I have the baptism of the Holy Spirit with tongues as the SPIRIT gives utterance and I want to say that this article has given me so much insight especially regarding praying in tongues I know the Lord lead me here for the answer I needed! thx!

  8. Hi Derek,

    Thanks for your comment.

I am familiar with that website, and have contributed there. What I have noticed in recent times is that confessing that Jesus has come in the flesh is very easy for many people to do, yet their spiritual gift is still far from believable. People with religious spirits can do this. That test is mainly for people who are actually possessed. People who entertain religious spirits are not possessed, but oppressed. So you are talking really to the person, not the spirit. That way, you get an acceptable answer.

So we do have to use more than one test to discern properly. We do not want to quench the true presence of the Holy Spirit and mislabel Him when He is really present. But, we do want to discern and deal with counterfeits also.

I cant use tongues as gift from God… Im Deaf and I cant hear or anything but God gave me another gift instead of Tongues and Im very happy for what he already gave me.. it will bs stronger when time is come.

I have gifts of prophesy, faith and discerment of spirits. those gifts he gave me for long time.. for prophesy . mostly are Dreams, visions.

sometimes I can read what God write in my prophetic dreams. sometimes I have to know the difference its from God or its from Satan ( bad ones).

Bad ones make the dreams look beautiful or make you feel good. its not true. I know God gave me dreams that make me feel disgusting or gross but thats his truth.

Sometimes I need depth understanding what the dreams mean or how it revealed to me. sometimes I rejected the dreams because it doesnt make sense to me. how can I understand what it doesnt make sense. its very challenging.

Thanks for allowing me to share this.. Can you send me the linkd of Signs and wonders and other spiritual gifts?

    • ANY FALSE GIFT OF TONGUE COMING THROUGH A DEMONIC SPIRIT CAUSES THE PERSON TO GO INTO A TRANCE AND IS ENTIRELY UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE DEMON FORCES AND IS NOT EVEN SPOKEN IN THE PERSON’S OWN VOICE … ALA EDGAR CAYCE. THE HOLY SPIRIT GIFT IS REAL AND IS ENTIRELY UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE PERSON AND THEIR WILL. READ LUKE 1.11-14. OTHER WISE YOU COULD NOT EVEN ASK TO BE SAVED AND RELY ON IT. WHEN YOU ASK GOD FOR SOMETHING HE ANSWERS. NAY SAYERS WHO QUESTION THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT ARE ENEMIES OF GOD. THEY REFUSE TO ACCEPT THE WORKS OF THE LORD. THEY REFUSE TO ENTER IN AND HINDER THOSE WHO WOULD.

        • This is a true story. I accepted Jesus at the age of 20 years old. I immediately received the water baptism and then 6 months later received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. My gift was speaking in tongues and as you can imagine I was very encouraged and excited because I had been raised Catholic and I was really hungry for more understanding of the Lord!

After I received my prayer language I would pray in the Spirit and the Lord’s presence filled me. On one particular night after praying the presence of darkness entered my room and paralyzed me both mentally and physically. I was in warfare and wasn’t equipped to understand what was happening since I had just recently received Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior and was new at reading the Word of God. I tried praying but my mind was confused and I couldn’t think straight. I tried moving but he had bound me. Then the Holy Spirit gave me knowledge. I started praying in my prayer language and could sense the presence of darkness starting to slightly release me. The more I prayed in my Godly language the more the darkness released me until my mind became clear enough to say “In Jesus name I rebuke you Satan”. The physical darkness lifted off my body as a black shroud then screeched and the blackness flew out the window by my bed.

I have had other encounters with the enemy but this one was when I was new in the Lord and I believe that all born again believer should seek the Lord to be baptized in the Holy Spirit! It truly is a gift and the gift has brought boldness and confidence in me to preach the Gospel and have a wonderful and fulfilling prayer life.

          • tristine

            wonderful testimony 🙂

          • similar situation after receiving the holy spirit happened to me. And the same process you followed to be able to say Jesus was what i also experienced. I was just 2-3wks in christ then. Glory be to God. Now, when i pray in tongues, after some minutes i do know what i’m saying. And now,i do see some visions. The lord is good. The lord loves you Tristine Burnside. I love you too.

      • This comment about naysayers answers a question I’ve been wandering about a reaction to an offer to help someone I know well, and it fits right along with an incident resulting in words exchanged the same person had when she was in school that she shared her side of.

        • Apologies for using character like nickname for now, haven’t joined WordPress but as skimming over more replies here, making one later changing username then to what I want. So many replies include what I’ve picked up on in my studying so far.

        • Ok I need a WordPress so I can subscribe. Finally a blog that has the balls to bust on those who you’re speaking of here viscously attacking the Holy Spirit presence. Around here they falsely accuse less mainstream People working in the gifts as instructed of “witchcraft” , but they’re the black magic practitioners using what really is witchcraft by biblical definition behind closed doors for control. George Washington and his fellow members of the Masonic lodge they had, tried to warn of these demonic people in disguise and even infiltrating other lodges if members aren’t careful. And they have some, only can use discernment to know good vs bad their groups. Thanks for calling the NWO freaks out.

          • sue

I do not think you need a wordpress blog to subscribe, there are people on here who do not have one.

you can make up anything for a “website” address or just leave it blank..

i agree with you…calling the holy spirit a demon is blasphemy.

while there are counterfeit tongues, this is an effort to discredit the holy tongues of god….

  9. I would like to make the clarification that being baptized with the Holy Spirit does not necessarily accompany the gift of tongues. I had a very real experience with this baptism and even heard an audible word from God “WELCOME”. However, instead of the gift of tongues, which, according to scripture is the “least” of the spiritual gifts, I was given the gift of prophesy or the ability to prophesy the Word of God by giving a “word in due season” and speaking forth the Word of God as though God is speaking through me. I believe the gift of tongues is real, however I believe it is over emphasized and does not edify the Body of Christ, only the individual believer. The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is a real experience and the Spirit gives DIFFERENT gift(s) as He CHOOSES. Every believer does not receive the gift of tongues!

  10. Hi Lynn,

What you say is very true. The Holy Spirit manifests in different ways, and how each individual is blessed is the sovereign decision of God.

I was trying to just address the tongues aspect here, keeping the focus more narrow, since so many do not believe in it. But to explain the other gifts would give a more balanced view.

    thanks
    marianne

  11. The gift of tongues is not the evidence of a Spirit filled life but a tool for personal edification and collective exhortation through interpretation. The evidence is only found when one exhibits the fruits of the Spirit. Many in Pentecostal/Charismatic/Holiness circles embrace the gift of tongues as that which occurred on Pentecost, yet this was a miracle of God provided to spread the gospel throughout the ancient World, these were known tongues. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are given as tools for evangelism not for our own personal exaltation or glory. Christianity is dead without evangelism, without the exercising of our faith we are nothing more than dry bones. The Apostle Paul rebuked the Church at Corinth for their need for self exaltation in placing their gift above their mission, tongues was prevalent yet so was lack of discipline and order.

  12. Rodney,

What you say is very true. For those who truly have this gift, they will be held responsible by God someday for how they used it. How many souls did they reach and pray for?

We all have been given something by God for service in His kingdom, as in the parable of the talents. If we misuse our talent, or don’t use it, then God will consider us unfaithful servants. Good observation.

  13. Hi~
You wrote,”…and there are those who are witch hunters, trying to denounce every act of God, in order to quench what they perceive as fake. There is a mindset that thinks since they do not have it, then it must not be real, because they think they are so holy, that they should have more gifts than others. It is this very prideful mindset that prevents them from receiving the real experience. To be fair, this bitterness may also be due to bad experiences with the fake experience, and now they think everything is fake…”

I feel I must address your comments, because they are written with an attitude of judgement, & are clearly not written with love, and the truth is, I know for a fact that you’re wrong about their motives (not that some may not feel this way, but most don’t!)

I’ve been a believer for 20 years now, & was pentacostal for many…then into home-church, as I began to see & stand against ‘churchianity”…& now, I sometimes attend an Independant Baptist church, not because I believe all their doctrines, but because they’re the only church I’ve been able to find where I am where they’re not into every false wind of doctrine permeating & corrupting the majority of the body of Christ, (the great falling away that’s been prophesied, though they like to beleive there’ll be a great end-time revival! The opposite of what God said is coming!) & they understand what it means to be separate from the world, & not love the world.

I believe tongues are a legitimate gift, but yes, waaaay over-epmhasised. But I have ready many, many articles from their writings (independant baptists…can’t speak for anyone else!)about why they reject it as a gift for now in the church, & their reasons are NOT about pride, or thinking they should have more gifts than other believers, or they’re more holy than others.

It’s also not right to call them witch hunters, they are clearly seeking to obey scriptures, & believe that, scripturally, there is no more need for tongues, & it’s passed away. (Right or wrong, their motive is obedience!)

They also believe scripture is clear that the language given was a KNOWN one spoken in the book of Acts, understood by those visiting from other places & hearing the gospel preached in their own language…(which I believe, about the day of Pentacost, but there is also the reference in 1 Cor. 13 about “the tongues of men AND ANGELS…” so I’m still studying this, & praying about it…)
…& yes, they’ve also seen the carnal attempts by many of those swept up in charismania to ‘be more gifted than others’…but for the most part, they don’t deny that those people are saved (only the Lord knows their heart) but pray for God to make the truth known to them, out of love for them. You don’t know them, or their hearts, (though I know you’re speaking generally, about ALL those who reject tongues for now) & so need to pay attention to your heart attitude towards those who don’t agree with you…be fully convinced, study the Word, but remember He died for them ,too! & we’re not 100% right in EVERYTHING yet, either! *grin*

That’s another thing that draws me to their churches…they love & pray for others, & though they’re not always open to re-considering their positions, I have known numerous ones who will humble themselves when scripture proves their position unbiblical.

So please, keep on exposing the lies with the truth…but in love! If you write without it, it is clear to those walking in it that it’s missing…& if we have not love, we’re just clanging cymbals…
    {…believe me, I know. I used to clang REAL loud!}

    • I just wanted to share with you that I totally understand how you feel. The reason I agree with the author of this blog, though, is because, it wasn’t until after I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking with tongues, that I saw how my pride had been keeping me from it. On a subconscious level I got angry when people tried to insinuate that my walk with God was missing something. I didn’t want to believe that there was something with God I didn’t have. When people told me there was more I got irritated and judgmental towards them. After I got it, I realized they were right and it took humility to see that. I pray you continue to be blessed on your journey and that the Lord will reveal Himself to you in the same way He was for me in Jesus name. Sincerely, Jacqueline

      • hi Jacqueline

Thank you for your comments. We that have the baptism have all been through what you have, so do not feel alone. But what a blessing it is when we finally receive it!.

May God bless you on your spiritual path, and may he protect and provide for you in the days ahead.

  14. Hi Anastazia,

This particular post was about the REAL manifestation of the Holy Spirit, as evidenced by the speaking in tongues.

I have other posts on fake tongues.

I have other posts on real signs and wonders.

Maybe I should link them together.

Since this post was ONLY about the true gift, then comments about unfair criticism would apply. If this was a post about the fake stuff, then obviously criticism would be appropriate.
The issue here is that when the true gift is present, then respect it as from God.

I will try to add the other links so that this is more clear.

    thanks and blessings

  15. I usually speak in tongues when I am praying for someone. If that person is manifesting an evil spirit I get real loud with the tongues. It’s not me but the Holy Spirit . Probably because I really don’t know what to pray for .

  16. Hi Shannon,

None of us know really how to pray. That is why the Holy Spirit helps us. I am glad he blesses your life with prayer through Him.

  17. Marianne, I came across your blog only today and love it. I’d like to link the site I’m working on to it. (I’ve spent the bulk of the last several hours reading your articles 🙂 )If the early church is our template, then we can hardly afford to be wrong about the topic of tongues. In the book of Acts, every occurence of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit was accompanied with tongues. Too many Christians cherry pick scriptures and daisy chain together a theology that isnt credible. Viewing the scriptures as a whole, the prominence of the Holy Spirit is undeniable. It is no wonder then that Jesus had this to say about the Spirit: The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. Even eschaetological newbies can attest that the word for wind here is the same as the word for Spirit. Only the context is the delineation. So if the wind is known by the sound it makes, why not the spirit? Further, there is Mark 16:17 : And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues” In all my study concerning the topic, I’ve never, read NEVER come across a convincing argument that invalidates the words of Jesus here as fiat, that the Spirit is evidenced by tongues. Even the Old Testament bears cogent witness to this phenomena; Isaiah has this to say: For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear. There is perfect etymological symmetry between the word “rest” in Isaiah and “comforter” in the the book of John. Tongues is for all who are willing to receive it. While I agree that an inordinate amount of time is spent in ambivalence on whether it is de facto or not, I dont believe that it is a subjective occurence. Paul says to desire spiritual gifts, (do you think it was for nothing that he also said that he spoke in tongues more than all? It added nothing to his argument, but served to say in order and under the sanctioning of the Spirit, it is neccessary) we should all desire the gift of tongues. In full disclosure, I am a Holy Spirit filled, non-denominational Christian who speaks in tongues.

    • I agree Amardo!! Here is what I posted on “speaking in Tongues” page:

I learned something new these last few days. When trying to explain “tongues” and why it is the evidence of receiving the Holy Spirit to a certain individual, the Holy Spirit explained “tongues” to me!! LOL

He explained that tongues will always be present after receiving Him-the baptism in the Holy Spirit-BECAUSE this is HIS LANGUAGE! Tongues has nothing to do with us or a special “gift” per se. The GIFT is actually receiving the Holy Spirit!! AMEN!

“tongues” is simply the Holy Spirit talking and praying-HIS LANGUAGE. You can’t have one without the other!!

This made such perfect sense! G-d is Simple and we make Him out to be more complicated then we need to.

  18. Dear Amardo,

Thank you so much for your comments and insights. Having the baptism of the holy spirit cannot be appreciated, unless one haves it, I think. People are just suspicious, because there is a counterfeit to it, and people with the counterfeit will act unbecoming to what the Holy Spirit would have them do. All we can do is encourage others to seek the true gift, with humility and sincerity.

  21. Wonderfully written article. I was led by the Holy Spirit to request the gift of tongues although it is not something spoken of or promoted @ the non-denominational Church I attend. The Spirit Called-I followed-later to find out there are others who also pray privately in the Spirit.

It may be a “lesser” gift but I cherish it with all my heart. In addition I receive “a word” from the Lord @ times in moments of spiritual clarity.

Those who truly yield and follow may be suprised in what the Holy Spirit will teach them. I certainly was never expecting to pray in tongues.

It’s too bad so many of the non-denominatonal Churches don’t teach these truths. But I suppose Christians who don’t quench the Spirit will be led to God’s will for their lives regardless. One way or the other.

  23. I just found your site and have been reading lots of your posts but coudln’t resist commenting on this one. 🙂 I came from a church background that preached tongues were “dead”:only the believers back in Jesus times got them, and “we don’t need them today”. Fast forward to when I was late 20’s and going through the biggest crises of my life. It was a wonderful miraculous story how I got the indwelling of the Holy Spirit accomanied by tongues (and I’d been a Christian since 9). (This is the short version!) Picture me sitting in a circle praying and holding hands w/2 other people I’d never met before, praying in the Spirit, (I had JUST received the gift a few moments before this, thanks to one of those people helping me) when all of a sudden we all burst out laughing (still praying, eyes closed) and laughed and prayed at the same time, for quite a few minutes, then all stopped suddenly at the same time. It was the weirdest, coolest experience I’d ever had! God became so HUGE to me after that weekend. Everything was different. Now there are times in my life when I am do deeply distraught and grief stricken that the ONLY thing I can do is pray in the Spirit because I’m absolutely at a loss for words, and God, in His tremendous mercy, comforts me during those prayer times. I wouldn’t give it up for the world!

  24. Dear Amy

It is always wonderful to hear about others receiving this experience. Joy and blessings are available to us now in this world, to help us through all the challenges and trials. We should all seek God for the spiritual strength he has to offer.

  25. I have asked over and over again…and still nothing what’s wrong with me ? I ‘m sure I’m saved because Jesus Christ is my saviour I study my Bible, sing God’s praise in my heart all day long but I feel being such a bad christian…I don’t know…

    • I must say that, since tongues is a gift of the Holy Spirit, not every Christian will receive this particular gift. I enjoyed your article and comments, and the only slight disagreement I have is the implication that tongues is for everyone. I strongly disagree! The Gifts of the Spirit are simply that, gifts, that He gives as He sees fit. I have never “spoken” or “prayed” in tongues and there is nothing blocking me. The Holy Spirit simply let me know that this particular gift was not for me. He has blessed me with other gifts – Discernment. Prophetic dreams, visions, etc. God’s purposes are His Own and He gives gifts according to His Will, not ours. I have even sat in a church where tongues was active, and could pick out who was valid and who was false. I also believe that if God wants you to have something, He will prepare you and He will gift you. There will be nothing you can do about it except to submit to His will and in His time. A wise preacher once told me when I was “worried”. as Beatrice was, that I should focus on 1 Corinthians 13 and everything else that God has for me would come. Bless you!

      • hi jane

I would agree that it is gift, and there are many gifts. Of course, no one is “required” to have a certain gift.

the bible says we can ask for one, if we do not have one, and it is the discretion of the Lord as to who gets what.

but it is always a joy to know we can ask, and possibly receive something wonderful.

the goal is to use what gifts we have, for the glory of god, and to enhance our relationship with him.

enjoy and share your gifts always.

      • I have been reading all the comments concerning the infilling of the Holy Ghost (which is the original reference from God’s Word in Acts) Jesus told His disciples when He was transfigured to go back to Jerusalem and tarry in the upper room, where the “comforter” would come, which would be Himself in Spirit form. Mary, His earthly mother and all the disciples were there when the “wind” of the Holy Ghost came upon them and the power of God entered their earthly bodies. this event was the “being born again of the Spirit”, that Nicodemus questioned Jesus about. Cloven tongues of fire sat upon each of them and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in a language that was not spoken by them, a language given to them by the Holy Ghost, as the sign of their being born into the Kingdom of God. This event was the culmination of the work of the cross that Jesus was born, lived and died to give mankind. It is not an option, but a commandment of God. We must be born again of the water (baptism by immersion in the Name of Jesus) and the Spirit (evidenced by speaking in a heavenly language), just as in the physical birth, a baby must give a cry when it is born. Speaking in tongues is the sign that we have been born into the Kingdom of God, the kingdom that will never pass away. This earthly body will pass away, for it is mortal and corrupt. Our spiritual body is eternal, as Jesus was after His resurrection. There is some confusion with the initial evidence of the infilling of the Holy Ghost and the “gift” of tongues. Once we are filled with His Spirit, He gives “gifts” of tongues, prophecy, wisdom, discernment of spirits, etc., which includes the gift of preaching, teaching, healing and many other gifts of the Spirit. But, all who are born again into the Kingdom of God, will speak in that heavenly language as the Spirit gives the utterance. Cornelius and his household is an example. Everywhere the disciples went, they preached their experience in the upper room and all the churches they established across their world was filled with those who had received the Holy Ghost just as they had. The Prince of this world is Satan, the liar and deceiver, who wants to convince everyone that God’s Word is obsolete and that the infilling of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues is no longer necessary. He also wants to convince mankind that it does not matter how we are baptized. If it did not matter, why would Jesus say that “In My Name they shall cast out devils, they shall speak with new tongues, they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall be healed.” We cannot use His Name except we become His legitimate children by being filled with His Spirit and entering into the New Covenant through baptism in His Name. We cannot allow human reasoning to enter into God’s perfect plan for our salvation. It is so important that He made Himself a human body and suffered the agony of Calvary for us to become “children of God.” God uses the foolish things to confound the wise. He is The Way, the Truth and the Life. The only way to be delivered from our sinful state is through obedience to His Word.
Thank God for His love for us, that He came to save us and exampled the way we can live victoriously over sin in this present world, as we wait for His glorious appearing, when we shall be changed, in a moment, from mortality to immortality, from corruption to incorruption and ever be with Him. We can become heirs and joint heirs with Jesus Christ, who ever liveth to make intercession for us, with groanings in the Spirit which cannot be uttered in the language of earth, but only in the language of Heaven, which is our real home.
God bless you all, in Jesus Name!
        Patsy

  26. Dear Beatrice,

That happened to me too. It was a long time before I received it. Sometimes our surroundings block us. Some people receive the baptism in a group of people, others are inhibited by the crowd, and are better off by themselves. Sometimes we have fears or uncertainties, or unconfessed sins. Our minds can block this experience. We have to relax, ask and be persistent.

Be patient, and try to dismiss the blocks in your mind. Disconnect your brain. Do you have a place you can go and just be alone? Maybe you should go there, and set a few hours aside, speak just any sounds (not your own language), and keep doing this until your faith overcomes your inhibitions. This is how I received the baptism.

Now, each person is different. So what was best for me, may not be for you. We are all unique. Let me know how this effort progresses for you.

  27. I stumbled upon this site and am really amazed at the wisdom and thoughtful, intelligent discussion of so many topics. And I am struck Marianne by your kind responses. However, when reading this particular thread, I felt the need to issue a caution, especially for those who are seeking this gift and have not be given this gift. Many years ago, I felt a strong desire to have this gift. I spent weeks asking God to reveal my sin and confessing my sin, reading his word, praying – and it culminated in a terrifying dream that I awoke from and knew immediately the answer for me was no. It was not maybe or wait, it was NO. God revealed that for me to be edified and given power, I needed to study his word, memorizing scripture, meditating on it – and just regular old praying and being obedient to his word, walking with him, revering him. I feel if I had continued seeking this gift then I would have received a counterfeit which is what actually has, I believe, happened to my sister. She supposedly has this gift, but ever since receiving it, I feel she has been oppressed by Satan, she is suffering mental illness now years later and has tried to commit suicide twice. And I can’t help but wonder if some of the counterfeit stuff out there comes about from believers who feel that something is wrong with them because they believe they should have this gift. I don’t quite understand why that belief is encouraged because it seems to me that scripture clearly states in I Cor. 12 that though we are all baptized with one spirit, we are given different gifts. I also felt very concerned about your advice to disconnect your brain – I feel this is also very dangerous and may open yourself up to something that is not from God. May I suggest that instead of disconnecting your brain, that you instead fill your mind with God’s word. Memorize and pray God’s word. I believe that is what John 15:7 teaches us. “If you remain in me, and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be given you.” Though I don’t speak in tongues I can praise God for the Holy Spirit’s indwelling (Jn. 14:17, Romans 8:9, I Cor. 3:16, Ephesians 2:22) his comfort (John 14:16), his revealing truth (John 16:13, I Cor. 2:13, John 14:26, etc.). I am sealed by him (Eph. 4:30), he convicts me of sin (Jn.16:7,8) and he does indeed intercede for me also with groans that words cannot express, and he intercedes for me (a saint through Christ’s shed blood for my sin) according to God’s will (though I don’t hear it audibly, I know in my spirit that his word and his promises are true). And by the way, isn’t it amazing that Jesus is at the right hand of God interceding for us, also? (Hebrews 7:25) And Romans 8:32 says, “He who did not spare his own son, but gave him up for us all, how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all the we need?” What an amazing God we have!!!

  28. An afterthought to my previous message, I sought this gift years ago and God said no but he has brought this issue into my life again recently, so I am asking God if this is something that may be a part of his plan for me now. So I am seeking his direction and am praying. Thanking God for guidance – Psalm 32:8, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way that you should go, I will counsel you and watch over you.”

  29. Hi Lisa,

Maybe I should re-word some things I say. To disconnect the brain only meant at the time of receiving the baptism, just means to not let it be a mental activity, where you force some artificial behavior on yourself.

Thanks for pointing out the confusion. I should clarify what I meant.

  30. Hi this blog is great I will be recommending it to friends.

  31. Interesting blog, I’ll try and spread the word.

  32. Let us not forget GOD’s WORD for absolute authority and understanding:-
2 Timothy 4:2-5 “In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage–with great patience and careful instruction.
For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.
They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry”.

Acts 1v8 Jesus tells us that when the were to be filled with the Holy Spirit, they would receive power to witness. “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

I am motivated, like Marianne, through love for Christ, by his first love for me, and I love my fellow mankind and to witness to you “BY HIS WORD”.

On 15th Feb Marianne suggested to Beatrice to “disconnect your brain” but scripture says in 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear;but of power, and of love, and of a SOUND MIND”.
There is confusion about the biblical meaning of tongues. May each and every one of you read this website artice for edification.

    • Hi Derek

Do not worry. I am in line with scripture. Look at my March 1, 2009 comment. I explain what I mean, to Lisa, after I had also explained to Beatrice off line. You see, there are other conversations that occur once my comment is emailed back to the person. Sometimes you do not see all that is discussed. The person will write back and we will discuss it further. It just means not to make receiving the baptism a result of intentional mental efforts, resulting in a fake experience, rather than submitting to the Holy Spirit, and letting him deal with our spirit.

But what you say is true, about being properly informed about what the spiritual experience is supposed to be, because then we will not be deceived.

  33. Hi Marianne,

Acts 17:11 “Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true”.

Please be honourable to God’s Word and please quote scripture every time you give your comments and advice, because without chapter & verse of authority, it is just philosophy.

I encourage and pray that you & all reader will give the time for study:

    • Amen, Derek.

If scripture cannot decisively back up our position, then we need to reconsider our viewpoint. Instead, Christians often pick over scripture so that it appears to align itself with their own ideals or worldview. This process involves clinging to partial truths or even lies (Hosea 10:13). None of us is above deception which is why we must fellowship with one another, challenging ourselves with the study of God’s Word (Heb. 10:25; Titus 3:3; Matt. 24:11). I commend your willingness to do so here.

I visited the second link you posted and was pleased to find that it was quite thorough and filled with God’s Word. I’ve found 1 Corinthians 14:22-23 quite helpful in understanding the purpose of tongues and its place in our world today. If someone is overwhelmed by the wealth of information found at your link, I would encourage them to thoughtfully study this passage.

      God Bless,
      Heather

  34. Acts 1:8 is the TRUE sign of the Holy Spirit filled Christian……that WE WILL WITNESS to the ends of the earth.

Mark 16:15 is the command to true believers to do so.

    • Hi Derek,

Thanks for all your scriptures. I hope everyone reads them and benefits.

    • Good verses to hide in our hearts – and share. I want to add another verse in light of Easter that has to do with resurrection and the hope we have in Christ. Lazarus is dead and Jesus is coming to him days after he has been dead – John 11:25, 26. Jesus said to her (Martha), I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies, and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this? Martha says that yes, she believes but then later he has to remind her, verse 40 – “Didn’t I tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?” What a reminder that we need to believe God!

  36. This is not scriptural. When you are saved you receive the Holy Spirit. It is Christ who baptizes you with the Holy Spirit. There is no such thing as a second baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Also, regarding your bride book. I was concerned with the chapter regarding Benny Hinn. What is your current view on this television pastor?

Also, regarding the Jezebel spirit. There is no scripture to support this premise. Jezebel was a person in the Old Testament. There is no Jezebel spirit. There is sin and that is all.

Some of the other topics regarding the level of your faith. Where in scripture are you getting all this from? While some of what you say is true there is also an element of error in what you are saying. You seem to have a very negative outlook on what it is to be a Christian. If you want to know about faith being tested then I would suggest you read the Book of Job.

God does not abandon you and to tell people this is totally unscriptural. Christ says he will never abandon or forsake you. If you don’t feel that you have a connection to Christ especially in your trials then I would have to say that you are a very immature Christian.

God is the one who sustains you through all things.

    • Dear Contender,

This refers to the fire of the Holy Spirit the disciples received on Pentecost, when flames of fire came down upon them, and they spoke with other tongues. Many people use the word baptism for this experience. It does not negate the water baptism.

Benny Hinn was just part of the story. Now, I wish it had been someone else. Considering his current behavior, I do not endorse any materialism, false teachings, or practices.

The word Jezebel here is a “label,” used to express a pattern of evil behaviors that was characteristic of Queen Jezebel in the old testament: aggressive, violent, treacherous, angry, liar, Baal worship (idolatry, child sacrifice/abortion, sexual sin, harvest and prosperity), domination over the male, etc.

As far as other topics, I give scriptural references along with the view. I do not know what you are referring to exactly. I view belonging to christ as the center of my life. I see sin in the church and false doctrines, and I discuss it. Christianity is failing because of the great falling away, but Jesus never fails.

Jesus does not abandon us, if we belong to him. If we reject him, we will end up in hell. But that is not abandonment. That is judgment we bring upon ourselves by rejecting Him.

  37. wow, great discussion guys. This is good website because it feels “free” Liberty…:D

I think what was said was right, we all have a unique journey, some of us reason, some feel, some just love, some a skeptic, its all good, just keep talking.

I think God loves us all, nonCHristian too, it’s a level playing field now, dont you think

    • Hi mj

Bible says, where the spirit is, there is liberty! 🙂

as we discuss, disagree, agree, we all come to a greater understanding.

  38. Hi Marianne,
Yes, “where the spirit is there is liberty” – this is found in 2 Corinthians verse 17. The Bible is always the source for truth. It is the truth that sets us free! John 8:32

  39. i am new to the sight i love my conecting with my prayers to the high place of god thru the holly spirt please pray for us everyone who reads this my sisterinlaw is a practiceing witch my husband is trying to help get his brothers mind to open to the spirt of god i read the prayer on witchcraft before he went to see his brother i am going to keep praying till he gets back

  40. Hi Marianne, me again LOL

I am posting this publicly in case someone else has had the same issue.

Shortly after I recevied the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, I started experiencing heat/electricity in my hands whenever I was around a sick person (I worked at a doctors office at the time so you can imagine how often this occured LOL). A friend of mine at the time explained to me that it was the gifts of healing. I had no idea of these gifts when i had asked for the baptism. Long story short, one evening when working at the doctors office (physicians immediate med here in Georgia), a man and his family came knocking on the door soon after we closed. He was desperate and explained that he needed to see the doctor right away because he was in alot of pain. He kept holding his hand over his jaw where his tooth hurt. The doctor came out to the waiting room and told him he needed to go to the ER because we were closed-he looked so upset and in pain. While sitting there with the other receptionist and looking at this family, my hands were on fire. In fact, my whole body was hot. I knew that the Holy Spirit wanted me to lay hands on this man-no doubt whatsoever. Marianne, I sat there fighting this. I was so concerned with what my coworkers would think of me-they would think I was crazy. My thoughts were interuppted with my co-worker asking me what was wrong. I said nothing. I even remember the man looking straight at me. I did nothing. When he left I even thought of jumping up and meeting him outside-I did nothing. I am still “on fire” at this point with the “tingling/electricity” in my hands. I asked God in that moment to please take it away. I couldn’t handle it. I have never experienced it since.

I regret that day more than anything. First, I disobeyed God. I failed Him miserably. I am so grieved over this to this day..20 years later. I remembered this day when my first son was diagnosed with Autism. I sat there in the Neurologists office hearing the words but refused to believe them. I have been pleading with God to return the gift so that He could heal my son thru me. Nothing has happened. I am still waiting.

I have asked God to forgive me. I have worked on forgiving myself. If a gift is given by God is it truly taken away, even if we ask him too, or does it just lay dormant? I have searched the scriptures and have yet to find anything to give me comfort over this.

The Holy Spirit is still with me with the beautiful languages he chooses to pray in. He has given me discernment/knowledge on several occasions that proved to be accurate even tho it was several months later.

Has anyone else on here experienced anything similar? Did God ever return the gift? Most importantly, Will God forgive me for disobeying him? and how do I forgive myself for failing Him?

    Thanks Marianne,

    Lyndsey

    • hi Lyndsey

The closest I had to a similar experience was a 3 year period when it seemed many miraculous events occurred. I could lay hands on the oppressed and cast our devils. I do not see those opportunities any more, although that could change.

I think God gives us gifts for each season of our lives. It may not be punishment that you are experiencing, so do not take it so hard. There is nothing you can do now.

      God forgave you long ago.

When the time is right, God will give you more opportunities. So just be patient and trust him. We are here to do his will, not our desire. When he has something for us to do, he will let us know.

      • Re-reading the above posts. I had forgotten that I had even posted here. Your words still give comfort; thank you! 🙂

Hope all is well with you and your family.

    • Hi Lyndsey,

I had a powerful tangable encounter with god and became born againI feel the tightening and the electricity in my arm and hand and started to lay hands on my children and they would get healed Lindsay Faith is an action by reaching your hand laying it on a sick person and commanding a healing is an act of faith start laying hands on your family members faith must be from both sides.

      • I do not believe God needs us as much as we are convinced He does…He does not need us to play mediator between our hands and His might…He is Sovereign and capable enough on His own and all He need do is think it into being…if not careful, we can become proud with works, spiral into self-exaltation, ego, boasting and spiritual elitist positioning..showing off in other words, a very fine line! To God be the glory and his son Jesus exalted…not us! I might be wrong or off but I don’t believe so…If the Holy Spirit was indeed the orchestra-tor, then perhaps you would have respond with boldness and no hesitation or delay..but instead you were thinking of your self first and perhaps how your character would be wrongly viewed or attacked, how you would look or appear to your co-worker, which you could’ve witnessed to thru this and if she was not a Christ follower, could have converted someone not in the faith…that being said, by the sounds of the fire in your hands, you collectively could have converted the entire waiting room and staff, of course as the leader and orchestra-tor being the Holy Spirit and you taking no credit in the least … We must get our minds off ourselves and onto God!!…as I said, I could be wrong, but then why did my spirit discern this? In love and humility…and for God glory and Jesus Christ exaltation, our Lord Savior Redeemer Deliverer…Amen

    • Hi Lyndsey,

Can I get your email address to contact you.

  41. Here is something quite remarkable that most people do not know.
Demons travel on sound frequency, which means language and voice is the best place to look for them. They are continuously trying to control our speech patterns for this thing comes naturally to them as “messingers”. Communication through sound frequency is their thing whither it is the music industry or your unknown tongue. Are you willing to take a chance with this for one more day? Are you willing to curse Jesus christ one more day? Is it worth it to take the chance of cursing the Most High? We are to be pure, especially in this age, it is not worth the chance. I have e-mailed you one other time and i gave you up as an apostate.
You would do well to seek the Lord in this thing and comr out of this sin. With love, we need all the sober believers we can get right noe.

    • Annie,

I can only speak for myself and my experience. When my father died recently my faith was definitely tested. Long story short, a friend of mine told me “go back to that which you know to be true”. The only thing I knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, to be TRUE was the Holy Spirit and having received Him in my early 20’s with the evidence of speaking another language of which I had never learned! I honestly didn’t know what to even pray…so I submitted to the Holy Spirit and He spoke on my behalf…I kept hearing “pa pa” several times….By praying in the Spirit I was able to grieve the loss of my father and return back to the belief in my Heavenly Father. NO demon did that! No cursing…only blessing and language in the most PURE form! Only G-D the Father, G-D the Son and G-D the Holy Spirit is able to that!

      • Hi, is there any chance I can email any of you on this discussion please for advice?
I’m seeking true spirit filled believers which you are for help please. If the moderator can pass my email on please? I’m in the UK. Thanks, Vicky

    • 1 Corinthians 12:3Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.

Romans 8:26 26In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. 27And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.

  42. I’m like this as well it is very personal between you and christ.I had spent two weeks in C.A.It was time to come back home.
when i prayed that before going to bed i asked God don’t let the plane leave the ground. So, the holy spirit woke me up and i said i bet it was about that plane. My sister was sleeping in the same room.I got up she said what is you doing i said i have to pray.So i start praying in tongues for a while. She did’nt understand what was going on at the time. Then i went to bed.The next morning I went on during what i had to do.We are at the air port to come back home. The plane tried leaving 4 times and the pilot said they had a problem with the plane.I was so happy,so very happy.Other people was so mad all they could see is that they could’nt off on time.Planes can’t land on clouds.I don’t always do what the holy spirit say’s.I don’t beat my self up over it i ask forgiven and go on and learn to do better. One of my cousins is not here today cost she did’t listen to the holy spirit. She left word with a close friend on her job stating she felt she should’nt go on a trip. All 4 died at one time.If i have a dream before hand i ask questions from different people. If no one can tell anything it’s about another you know. Please if the holy spirit wake you early morning hrs.get up and pray you are helping some body. Thanks,GP

    So

  43. email from Lyndsey

To summarize, why then should we encourage speaking in tongues today, in the 21st century?

    • Jesus said that believers would (Mark 16:17).

    • Tongues certify and give evidence that the person is baptized with the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:5; 2:1-4; 10:44-46; 11:15-17; 19:1-6).

    • Speaking in tongues is a good opportunity to submit to the Holy Spirit’s leading (Acts 2:4).

    • Tongues demonstrate the reality of God in the speaker’s life (Acts 11:15-18).

    • The baptism with the Holy Spirit, evidenced by speaking in tongues, opens the door to other gifts of the Spirit (Acts 19:2,6).

    • Tongues with interpretation are “for the [church’s] common good” (1 Corinthians 12:7, 10).

    • Speaking in tongues is speaking to God (1 Corinthians 14:2a).

    • Praying in tongues is praying “in” or “with the Spirit” (1 Corinthians 14:2, 14-15).

    • The speaker in tongues is edified (1 Corinthians 14:4).

    • The apostle Paul expressly approved of tongues (1 Corinthians 14:5a, 39).

    • A tongue followed by an interpretation edifies the church (1 Corinthians 14:5, 12-13).

    • Tongues allow us a balanced prayer and worship life, both with the spirit and with the understanding (1 Corinthians 14:14-15).

    • When speaking in tongues, you may be giving thanks well to God (1 Corinthians 14:16-17).

    • Speaking in tongues was apostolic practice (1 Corinthians 14:18 and at Pentecost).

    • Tongues with interpretation are an appropriate, strengthening part of an edifying church service (1 Corinthians 14:26).

From the bottom of my heart, I commend to you the words of the apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 14:5: “I would like every one of you to speak in tongues.”

  44. Scriptural Evidence to support the Baptism of the Holy Spirit:

    Mark 16: 17And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; THEY SHALL SPEAK WITH NEW TONGUES’;

    Luke 4:1

Luke 11:13If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

    Luke 12:11
    John 14:15
The Promise of the Holy Spirit
15 ¶ If ye love me, keep my commandments.
    16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
18 ¶ I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

***Acts, the entire chapter speaks of the Holy Spirit

Acts 1:4On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5For John baptized witha water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 1:8 8But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Acts 2:1And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

    Acts 2:14….be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: 15For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. 16But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

17And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

18And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

Acts 2:38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, AND ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

    Acts 19:

1While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples 2and asked them, “DID YOU RECIEVE the Holy Spirit whena you believed?”

They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

3So Paul asked, “THEN WHAT BAPTISM DID YOU RECEIVE?”

    “John’s baptism,” they replied.

4Paul said, “JOHN’S BAPTISM WAS A BAPTISM OF REPENTANCE. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” 5On hearing this, they were baptized intob the name of the Lord Jesus. 6When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and THEY SPOKE IN TONGUESc and prophesied. 7There were about twelve men in all.

***Acts 19:1-7 Clearly shows that there are 2 separate baptisms and that speaking in tongues comes AFTER the Holy Spirit baptism.

*** 1Corinthians, explains the spiritual gifts that come AFTER the baptism of the Holy Spirit

    1 Corinthians 3:16
    1 Corinthians 6:19
    1 Corinthians 14:4
    1 Corinthians 12:7

Romans 5: 5And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

Romans 8: 5For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. (to be after the spirit and spritually minded comes from receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit)

Romans 8:9But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, IF SO BE that the Spirit of God DWELL IN YOU

Romans 8:11But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead SHALL ALSO QUICKEN YOUR MORTAL BODIES BY HIS SPIRIT THAT DWELLETH IN YOU. (this sounds like the Holy Spirit is the one who will help us ascend to meet Jesus Christ in the air 🙂

Romans 8:26Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

    Romans 14:17

*When I did my research on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit before receiving him, I was also referred to Smith Wigglesworth and his book titled “baptism in the Holy Spirit”

  45. there is a discussion on another page on this. I hope they come over here and read the post.

  46. Speaking with new tongues means a language new to the believer. Not a new language to the world.

These things happened a long time ago with the change from the Old Testament to the New. A time when G-d’s word was not given to us as we know it now called the Bible.

Those things had to happen then to carry the message of Christ to the world. Do Christians talk in a new laungage,(tongues), now given to them by G-d the Father in Christ’s name?

    Everything I read states no.

    • The why did Jesus say they will speak with NEW tongues?

Mark 16:17And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in NEW TONGUES.

Leatherneck, I have been where you are be it 22 years ago.

My boyfriend at the time was spirit filled. On our way to church I heard him praying in tongues quietly in the car-it drove me nuts! I told him to stop. At church, I was new there, I heard them all speak in tongues-I thought they were all crazy (they were mad) and demon possessed and I had to report them-to whom, I didn’t know-but they had to be reported!! LOL

My boyfriend thought I was demon possessed because I couldn’t stand to hear him speak in tongues! He took me to one of their bishops (he wore a collar) for my exorcism…laughing. (In hindsight, I think G-d was having a very good laugh!)

The Bishop made me look at him in his eyes-I did-and he said that a demon could not look a holy man in the eyes. I was so relieved and I was so mad at my boyfriend for embarrassing me.

Long story short, I took it upon myself to research it. I trusted G-d with all my heart and I trusted the scriptures, for I knew they were without error. To help in my research, I was told to read the book by Smith wigglesworth, “the baptism in the Holy Spirit”.

I read the scriptures supporting the baptism of the Holy Spirit; I prayed to G-d to help me understand and I read the book by Wigglesworth. One December evening around 3am in the morning while reading the book, I met the Holy Spirit!!! I don’t know even know what words to use to describe such an incredible moment. For the first time I felt the supernatural presence of G-d almighty! I then heard different syllables in my thoughts and when I opened my mouth I started speaking another language-fluently and without hesitation. I had never heard this language before but I was speaking it just the same as the Holy Spirit kept the words flowing. As the years have gone by-now 22 years later-I have heard different languages-some were identifiable such as Hebrew-a lot of gutteral sounds.

Needless to say, tongues is very much a part of the 21st century as I am not alone in this-many have also received the 2nd baptism, Marianne included.

One thing I will add is that part of receiving the baptism requires us to relinquish control and to give that control over to G-d. We keep our eyes on Jesus and believe/have FAITH that He will give us the Holy Spirit as He so promised within the scriptures.

      John 1:33

    • HI Leatherneck

      There were

      2 kinds of tongues

      a. “New tongues” is described in 1Cr 14:2: For he that speaketh in an [unknown] tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understands [him]; howbeit in the spirit he speaks mysteries.

      b. “other tongues” is described in (Acts 2:4) where the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language (Acts 2:6)

So “new tongues” was meant for private communication with God, and “other tongues” was meant for preaching the gospel to people of other languages.

      Definition of “new:”

Recently made, fresh, recent, UNUSED, unworn.

Of a new kind, unprecedented, novel, uncommon, unheard of

“New tongues” is therefore NOT “other tongues” because the tongues used for preaching the gospel are “other tongues” that are NOT new, they are already in existence, they are NOT fresh, they are definitely used, they are definitely heard of, because people speak that language.

      More here:

The Church is having a power failure !

    • Leatherneck said:Speaking with new tongues means a language new to the believer. Not a new language to the world.

      *that is correct
*And the Holy Spirit can also use many earthly languages as well when speaking through a believer to another believer (the church) or unbeliever

Leatherneck said:These things happened a long time ago with the change from the Old Testament to the New. A time when G-d’s word was not given to us as we know it now called the Bible.

*correct and “these things” continue to happen even now in the 21st century as we are entering/to endure the last days.

Leatherneck said:Those things had to happen then to carry the message of Christ to the world

*correct and even today as well so as to continue “to carry the message of Christ”

Leatherneck said:Do Christians talk in a new laungage,(tongues), now given to them by G-d the Father in Christ’s name?

      *YES

      Mark 16:17

  47. This song reminds me of the Holy Spirit every time I hear it…”consume me like a fire” (the baptism of the HS) and “I wouldn’t stop until I found something beautiful (the Holy Spirit) Enjoy!

  48. http://www.wordofhisgrace.org/tonguesQA.htm

    • Peter Ditzel does not speak in tongues, obviously, and has never received the baptism in the Holy Spirit, obviously. He has stated his opinion only and is incorrect in stating “When Paul said in 1 Corinthians 13:1, “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal,” he was using hyperbole. ”

Paul was not using a “figure of speech”. He was stating a fact. This is how the scriptures are often twisted and various interpretations of the same verse are assumed. (example would be the catholic church being formed on 1 verse-“upon this rock…” they made Peter the 1st pope etc).

This results in false teaching and ultimately robbing G-d’s people in knowing the truth. (wonder who is responsible for that)

Leatherneck, I have NOT lied to you. I have shared with you my personal experience of having spoken in tongues for the past 22 years after receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit in 1988.

If I could, in order to prove to you what you need for proof, I would gladly submit to an MRI, a linguistic and a lie detector.

Just take G-d at His Word, literally. He says what he means and means what he says. And the best way to truly find out is to simply ask G-d for the Holy Spirit. Make sure your intentions are pure-G-d always knows our hearts-and with humility and sincere desire, ask Him for the gift of the Holy Spirit in Jesus Name.

Show Him the scriptures and ask for revelation of the TRUTH. And the Spirit of TRUTH will most assuredly lead you into ALL TRUTH.

      • How do you know he never received the Holy Spirit?

        • By reading his article. “you will know them by their fruits” Matthew 7:16

When he stated that Paul was only using a figure of speech when talking about “tongues of men and angels” was my first clue.

  49. 1. He who speaks in an unknown tongue speaks to God (1 Corinthians 14:2). That is, he prays. But the prayers he prays are prayed with his spirit in words given by the Holy Spirit. Therefore these prayers will be effective because they are according to the will of God.

    2. Speaking in tongues enables us to pray much. God says, “Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). While there are many forms of prayer it is great to have the ability to pray in tongues at any time, without taxing the mind. The mind can rest or do something else while the spirit prays. This ability will help us to be “praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit” (Ephesians 6:18) even when our minds are tired and we don’t know how or what to pray. (Romans 8:26,27)

    3. Speaking in tongues allows us to pray for things and situations we don’t know about. There are a lot of important things happening or threatening to happen in life that we don’t know about. But praying in tongues helps us to pray for these things also – that God steps in and changes these things or people we don’t know about and we certainly don’t know how to pray for.

    4. “He who speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself.” (1 Corinthians 14:4). This means that speaking in tongues builds up our spiritual life. Jude exhorts the Christians as follows: “But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God.” (Jude 20,21). Much speaking in tongues helps us to be deeply conscious of the fact that God lives in us. Speaking in tongues therefore strengthens our relationship with God which will result in greater love and faith being known in and through us than we would otherwise experience.

    5. Speaking in tongues can be a spiritual gift to help others, when translated. It also helps us to train our spirits to hear the voice of God and to operate in the other gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:8-10). Especially in Western culture, we have been trained to base all our speaking, thinking and actions on reasoning that we can understand. However, the place where God speaks to us first is in our spirits. Our spirit is the part of us through which we hear the voice of God. It is not through rational processes or deduction that we arrive at what God is saying. We don’t arrive at the experiential knowledge of God through philosophy (1 Corinthians1:21), but through revelation by the Holy Spirit. That does not mean that God is illogical or irrational, but that He transcends natural knowledge and brings us extra knowledge we can’t obtain by natural reasoning. By speaking in tongues much and meditating on the Word of God, or waiting silently in the presence of God, and by stepping out in faith, we will learn to hear and obey the voice of the Holy Spirit.

    6. We should imitate Paul (1 Corinthians 11:1; Philippians 4:9), who spoke in tongues more than all the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 14:18), and they were a church that were proud of their gifts and especially of speaking in tongues! The majority of God’s people with a significant healing ministry like John G. Lake or Smith Wigglesworth testify that speaking in tongues was a very important key to their ministry.

    7. Speaking in tongues refreshes our spirits and our minds. Isaiah 28:11-12 speaks of a rest that comes to those who accept the blessing of speaking in tongues. Our minds can rest while we speak in tongues and we can receive power from God through it which affects our physical health postively also. (Romans 8:11).

    8. Speaking in tongues helps God get control of our tongues. We must yield our tongues to God when we speak in tongues. This is a good habit to get into, since the tongue is by nature the most unruly member of our bodies, the most dangerous and the hardest to control. (James 3:8). By speaking in tongues much we learn to quieten our minds and quieten our tongues from saying wrong and hurtful things. Instead, we train our tongues to speak things that are positive and life- giving.

It is therefore important for every Christian to speak much in tongues, so as to be of the greatest usefulness to others and to God in the work of the Kingdom of God.

  50. THE PROMISE IS FOR YOU

In Acts 2:39 Peter says “For the promise is for you and your children, and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God shall call to Himself.”

We may be far off from the day of Pentecost but the promise is for us if God has called us to Himself.

What is “the promise”? It is the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38).

“And behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.” (Luke 24:49). See also Acts 1:4.

This is the promise recorded in Joel 2:28-32 and Acts 2:17-21.

“And it shall be in the last days, God says, that I will pour forth of My Spirit upon all mankind; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams (Acts 2:17).

Before “the last days” the Holy Spirit was only poured out upon specially chosen servants of God, especially prophets, priests and kings. But now, the Bible teaches us, all Christians are royal priests (1 Peter 2:9). The Holy Spirit can be poured out on all mankind (Acts 2:17), so this certainly includes you. The applicable time period for the promise, the last days, is the time between Christ’s ascension and second coming. The last days aren’t over yet as Acts 2:19,20 have not yet been fulfilled. Therefore the promise is still fully applicable to all believers today.

  51. How to Receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit

We now arrive to the very important question – how to receive the promise of the Father; how to be baptised in the Holy Spirit. The word of God gives us the answers here.

Remember, if you are a Christian, you have the Holy Spirit already (Romans 8:9). The word “receive” is used in the sense of making a guest welcome. The Holy Spirit is holy, and also a gentleman. He will not barge in if you don’t want Him to. His power is freely available to those who will trust and obey (Acts 5:32).

It is not essential to have hands laid on you to receive the Holy Spirit, but it is helpful provided the believer who lays hands on you is spirit-filled and of good character. There is a spiritual impartation that comes with the laying on of hands. We see the laying on of hands mentioned in connection with receiving the Holy Spirit in Acts 8:17, Acts 9:12 and Acts 19:6. Its important to realize that we receive the Holy Spirit by faith, and not merely by the laying on of hands.

This is what needs to happen for you to be mightily filled with the Holy Spirit.

REPENTANCE (necessary for salvation. See Acts 17:30; Luke 13:3; Acts 2:38)

Examine yourself. Be honest with yourself and God. God demands thorough repentance from ALL KNOWN SIN. Decide to live for God wholeheartedly. Confess and forsake your sins, trusting Jesus for forgiveness (Prov 28:13; 1 John 1:9). If you have unforgiveness in your heart towards anyone, you must forgive that person (Mark 11:25)

    RENOUNCE EVIL POWER

If you have ever dabbled in false religions or ANY form of the occult (including astrolgy) you must renounce that evil power now in the name of Jesus. It is from Satan and his demons.

If you are in doubt about some practice or habit then renounce that too (Romans 14:23). God’s power and demon power don’t mix well!

    THIRST AFTER GOD

Jesus explains in John 7:37,38 “If any man is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, ‘From his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water'”.

The next verse tells us that this refers to the Holy Spirit.

We must have a desire to experience more in God in order to be filled with the Spirit. The more intense our desire is, the more powerfully we will be baptized in the Holy Spirit. We should never give up seeking God. Faith is born out of desire.

    ASK IN FAITH

Jesus said, “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him” (Luke 11:13).

“Ask and you will receive, that your joy may be full” (John 16:24)

We can have faith because we know from God’s word the promises such as these. See also Acts 2:17,38-39. It is obviously God’s will to keep his promises.

    DRINK

“We have all been made to drink into one Spirit” (1 Corinthians 12:13). In Hebrew and Greek the word for spirit is the same as the word for breath. When coming to God to be baptised in the Spirit, it is sometimes helpful after prayer to take a few deep breaths in faith, and as it were, to breath in the Holy Spirit. We should come with a thirsty heart to Jesus and drink. (John 7:37- 39).

    RECEIVE

We receive the Holy Spirit as a gift, not on the basis of works, but by “hearing with faith” (Galatians 3:5). We don’t receive by doing outward things, we must simply believe that we receive.

Mark 11:24 “Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they shall be granted you.”

    YIELD TO GOD

As the expression of our faith in God’s word, we yield control of our tongue to God. This yielding is an ACTIVE thing – WE do the speaking, and the Holy Sprit gives the language.

Paul says “For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful” (1 Corinthians 14:14).

Acts 2:4 says “And they … began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance (Margin reads “ability to speak out”).

You must begin speaking, trusting God to give the language. Do not worry about whether you understand the sounds you make – you will make the sounds according to the language that the Holy Spirit gives you.

Keep speaking in tongues, allowing the Holy Spirit to flood your spirit, soul and body, drenching you in his presence. Keep receiving until you are absolutely full of the Holy Spirit. Begin to praise God in your new language from God, thanking him for what he has done!

  52. Some Common Questions

    Is tongues for today?

Yes, today multitudes experience the power and blessing of God as they speak in other tongues (languages given by the Holy Spirit). God has never withdrawn tongues from the church, but they largely died out through unbelief, ignorance and apostacy – the predominating characteristics of the institutional church for hundreds of years. We know tongues, prophecies and knowledge will cease when the perfect comes (i.e. Jesus comes again and the Kingdom of God is fully manifest) but then they will be swallowed up into something far greater. (1 Corinthians 13:82). Even throughout church history men and women have spoken in tongues (e.g. Charles Finney (see his autobiography), the Huegenots and many other groups) but this has been largely ignored or suppressed until the 20th century, where God is restoring more Biblical truth.

Certainly, the new Testament is not outdated. We ought to speak in tongues for the same reasons as the early church did. If you start with the unproven assumption that the supernatural

is not for today, large portions of the Scriptures become irrelevant, describing a God whose ways have fundamentally changed. But all Scripture is profitable (2 Timothy 3:16).

How do I know its from God?

We know on the basis of God’s promise in his Word. God is our Father. If we ask Him for a good thing he will not give us something of no value that will waste our time, or worse yet, a demonic counterfeit.

“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!” (Matthew 7:11). In Luke 11:13 Jesus says in identical fashion that God will give the Holy Spirit to those who ask. It is clear then that our loving Father wants to give us what we ask for, not something evil.

    no hyperbole here…:)

  56. I COR 13:1- Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. – Charity = GOD = The Lord Jesus Christ – So we see right here that manifesting one of the nine gifts does not qualify us of receiving the Holy Spirit = GOD is a SPIRIT = HOLY SPIRIT – Matt. 5:45 – It rains on the Just and the UN-just both – The Spirit of God makes a flower Grow and also makes a “weed grow”. The Holy Spirit coming upon you does not qualify you as a Spirit filled believer. But Receiving the Holy Spirit into your Soul does. Remember Balaam was a false Prophet so was Judas sent out by Jesus doing miracles. Operating in the gifts etc.
I COR. 12:29-31 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? The Bride must have a 5 fold ministry – be we do not have all the same administrations. Apostle and Prophets lay the foundation for the NOW message of the Gospel. The teachers, Pastors, etc. are suppose to preach what the Apostles and Prophets taught us.
30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? = answer NO
Any believer is potential to this verse. Miracles, healing gifts are given to them severally as GOD WILLS 31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way. Best gifts is Charity=Love = Faith that worketh by Love – Faith is a Revelation of Jesus Christ direct to you.

Circumcision was suppose to be a sign you was a real Israelite – yet we know that all were not even believers. Its the same with speaking in Tongues today. It is A evidence but it is NOT “THEE” evidence only. No more than any other gifts, Wisdom, knowledge, Miracles, prophecy, wonders, healings, etc.
Jesus actually called the leaders of Israel – snakes, devils, etc. yet they were circumcised. But not believers TRADITION’S Of Man always makes the Word of God of NONE EFFECT – If they had the HOLY SPIRIT they would have ” Excepted ALL TRUTH” — That is what EVIDENCE of the Holy Spirit is – “It GUIDES YOU TO ALL TRUTH – CAUSE IT IS THE “SPIRIT OF TRUTH”

JOHN 16:13- Howbeit when HE, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

When HE=JESUS CHRIST come back on day of Pentecost – Peter and the rest of them received a Full Conversion -Not confused anymore – not afraid anymore – had Power- Walked in the Image of Jesus Christ Thought like Jesus Christ –
After the Baptism of the Holy Spirit =God = Jesus Christ changing mask and back into Spirit form again – to Abide IN THEM not just around them. They also continually stayed in the Word – that is in the bible. The Spirit of Truth put a hunger in them for the REAL TRUTH. REVELATION of JESUS CHRIST

Jesus said He came from the Father and went BACK to the Father = SPIRIT
Jesus himself said GOD Is a SPIRIT — Yes indeed = Holy Spirit –amen
Jesus was God and He had to Go back to God – Spirit – to be able to come into their Flesh Body now that the Redemption plan of the Kinsmen Redeemer was over.
We must get out of the man made doctrines to see the truth of the “Revelation of Jesus Christ” cause it is still a “Mystery today” which is “Christ in you” Col. 1:27 etc.

As I said earlier Balaam had the gift of Prophecy – you can read the true prophecy right out of the Bible – But was a false prophet. Jesus said they would be “false anointed ones” in the end time. And a great falling away = from what. Answer – the truth – WE SURE GOT A LOT OF TONGUES SPEAKERS TODAY BUT WHAT ABOUT THE TRUTH THAT IT IS SUPPOSE TO GUIDE YOU TO
Three out of 5 times when the Holy Spirit Fell upon men and women in the Book of Acts they spoke in tongues. Most every time people spake in tongues people did understand what they said. Any UNKNOWN tongue is just speaking without and interpretation. So it only edify’s the speaker. Paul said he would rather speak a few words that edify that thousands of words that do not edify the church. Or it’s called Babylon.

MATT 13:11-13 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
    12. For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.
    13. Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. – because they never did receive Holy spirit. — IT IS NOT AN OPTION BUT A MUST HAVE. We have to be able to receive the Word seed
MATT 13:23- But he that received seed = word into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
After Pentecost the disciples were different Men all together. They never got caught in the “birth canal” of false doctrines of men that would say “Now you got it- but never had it. It’s everywhere you go today.
Baptist say “You got it’ When you believe – Methodist say “you got it’ when you get sanctified, some say when you keep a holy day Saturday “you got it” – Some say I take communion every week – you got it – Some just believe Membership – “You got it” some say I believe in the Pope – You got it – Pentecostals say you Speak in tongues “you got it” — And of the 80 something percent of all American’s now say “they got it” I’m on my way to Heaven. You must be Marked with the Character of Jesus Christ if you GOT IT
Again I say The True Evidence that the Holy Spirit is dwelling in you is this
    1. You will Understand the Message for your Hour when you hear it.

This is what Apostle Paul said in Acts 20:29-30 –
ACTS 20:29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
    30. Also of your own selves = church shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.
    31. Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.
    32. And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.
    33. I have coveted no man’s silver, or gold, or apparel. = Where are we at dear people today.

The Apostle Paul said – ROMANS 8:9 – But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
The Holy Ghost is not an Option my dear brothers and sisters. it’s the MARK OF GOD’S CHARACTER IN THE HAND OF SERVICE AND IN THE MIND OF CHRIST —
YOU ARE NOT A BEAST ANYMORE

I know that this is a strong message for many – But the time is short – Born Again means filled with Holy Spirit – are you will never become Holy — There is no such think as Receive Christ without receiving the Holy Spirit period. You are just a Potential believer. “Believing unto Christ which is a start” you received some seed =word – then the Water and Blood breaks – then you IT IS A MUST TO RECEIVE LIFE or you are a still born baby = still dead from the womb.
The Devils believe and tremble but they sure ain’t filled with the Holy Ghost. That all comes from Trinitarian doctrines of devils. Sounds so right you got Jesus but now you got to have the 3rd. Person in you called the Holy Spirit — God help us.
That is what I was taught for many years but thank God I read the Bible and God filled me with the Holy Spirit and I started to get the understanding of the Mystery of Jesus Christ IN YOU.
Love you all in the Lord Jesus Christ – The KING of all kings. And Yes I do speak in tongues but I must tell you the truth of the Bible – Bro. York

    • dear Brother York

I certainly agree with you that there are many who are false believers, and have a false manifestation of a spirit.

The holy spirit will not come into an unclean vessel….one who has not fully repented of their sins, with a conviction of turning away from them, one who is not really saved.

So, as you say, we should look at the fruit of the spirit in their lives.

      Good fruit = holy spirit

      Bad fruit = wrong spirit

People should not focus on sensationalism and outward signs….to enhance themselves and make themselves appear righteous. This creates an open door for the wrong spirit to enter the person an deceive them.

The true baptism of the holy spirit will promote holiness, not selfishness and carnality.

When I listen to someone speaking in tongues, the unknown language is not all I listen to.

I also listen to what ELSE comes out of their mouths, because “out of the heart, the mouth speaks.”

So, I agree that not all tongues is of God, and we should be discerning in these end times.

  57. My Testimony(Holy Spirit,Tongues,Visions,)

MY Testimony, Debbie LaGant :Jesus appeared to me….This has been my third vision in my life time. The Baptism of the holy spirit!

June 19,2000,I was sitting in my living room reading the holy bible, I was reading only the words in red that day, I stood up and begin to read the words with all the life in me, I was thinking how fresh those words are just as fresh as the day Jesus spoke them, I felt so refreshed inside ,I then felt to go and pray alone in my room . I closed the door behind me and got on my knees to be humble and asked the Father for the gift of tongues and the understanding of it, four of my brothers are Pastors and they have received it and also my dad. I then stood up I said Jesus I don’t know how to speak in tongues so I will praise you in English, I felt I had the gift but didn’t know how to speak it, so I begin to praise Jesus and thank him in English, then I felt him enter the room it was a feeling I’ve never felt before ,I then saw a ray of white light before me, I felt a touch on my head and it felt like a wave went through me and my English was changed to tongues! and the ray of light opened ,I then saw where the light was coming from, it was coming from the top of my bedroom ceiling where I knew no natural light could enter, this light wasn’t as are light but as a white soft fog, I begin to shake all over I’ve never shook like this before and my ears couldn’t believe what my mouth was saying, I thought my god I just asked Jesus for something and he’s doing it, I then felt the middle of my stomach jolt up! And this was the beginning of a fresh new life for me.

Then on Nov 1 2000 about 1:58 am there came another visit, I just turned over in my bed and that white fog entered my room, I thought it was my eyes , I rubbed them but the fog begin to take form, the white fog became two white squares that formed together and began to rise up higher, I sat up in my bed I said Jesus? I then stood up to pray I said father if this be not of you to go away in Jesus name. I then opened my eyes the the white fog was the complete form of a ghost shape I believe it was the Holy Ghost,Then the face got bright with spikes of light all around like a sun,and then the face had gotten even brighter! spikes of light came from the face shaped in the form of an X shape and I then saw a lovely rainbow appear over the head of this bright face three colors red, yellow blue, most rainbows have the dark colors at the bottom but this rainbow had the dark colors at the top I don’t know why but over the colors of this rainbow was white crowns of light little dips of light ,Then the vision was gone, all I could do was just stand in awe,I went to seek in the bible for some answers to who this was whom I saw and the first bible verse I kept coming across said dont you even know me though I’ve been with you all this time if you’ve seen me you’ve seen the father, then I was lead to Ezekiel1:28 it speaks of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain it saws the same is as the glory of the lord….Then I read in Matthew 17 :2 where it speaks about Jesus being transfigured on the mount it says his face does shine as the sun and his clothes white as light, all these verses matched my vision ,Then came the verse that hit me

hard was Rev 10:1 it said his face does shine as the sun and he has a rainbow over his head ,I then knew this was Jesus whom I saw I fell to my knees crying and said Jesus this was you who I saw wasn’t it and I spoke out in the holy spirit and said it was I my love ….all whom I asked ho this was in Rev 10:1 said Jesus ,shortly after this vision Jesus appeared to me face to face in a dream and he still visits me in my dreams even till this day, I know he will never leave me nor forsake me, old things are passed away and behold all things become new! As Paul says in the bible it is not I who lives but Christ who lives in me! I Praise and Thank Jesus for all he has done and is doing! I will never be the same again! Receive ye the Holy Ghost In Jesus Name! Love in Christ Jesus ,Debbie

  58. Helo…I always thought that the gift of the spirit to speak tongues was fake to some degree. I want to know why I never received it.

    Sincerely,

    James

    • dear James

That was true for me also until later in life. I think people can scare us into not getting the baptism. Some receive so spontaneously, and act a little wild, or we are too pressured into this, that we are scared into thinking that maybe it is not from God. Our reason blocks the reception of it. Fear of “going out of control” and letting some spirit take over the body triggers the fear of “possession” in our brain, if we are reasonable people.

So first, we have to accept that fake things are imitations of what is real.

So God is real, and the devil imitates it. But this does not mean we cannot have what is real. We just have to be smart, and go to God, not man, to seek this gift.

this gift, also is a person, not a thing. And I think it helps to know that.

We then have to overcome any mental blocks in our mind to receiving. We sort of disconnect the brain, in the sense that we do not try to do this ourselves, or force this, or fake it until we make it. We do not think about what to say. We just quiet ourselves, until our mind is still. It says in the bible to be still and know I am God. once we get to that point, then we can switch to prayer and supplications, and seek the gift from God.

By seeking the baptism, you are seeking an intimate relationship with the holy spirit. You are asking him to not only be with you in your life, but to take over your spirit, so you can completely submit to the holiness of God, and serve him as he guides you.

It is not a possession, but a partnership.

receiving has a lot to do with how much you want to receive. If you think it is just something nice to have, you will not receive it.

You have to hunger for this, and feel like you are starving without it. There needs to be a desperate desire in your heart, to get closer to God.

After many failed attempts to receive in churches, where they did scare me, I went into my own bedroom and locked the door. I made sure no one was home also to disturb me. The locked door was in case someone came in later, so they would not disturb me.

I got down on my knees and I really prayed and sought God. I did not want to get up until the holy spirit can come to indwell in me completely. Once I had quieted my own human spirit, I then spoke out nonsense sounds in faith, as someone had advised me to do. This was important to do something to open and move my mouth as a cooperative effort. (Others may have done this differently, according to what was comfortable to them.) I then just knelt there and hoped with all my heart that I could have this relationship with the holy spirit. time passed, and I grew weary, but continued.

About 45 minutes later I noticed that the nonsense sounds sounded like “holy living water.” this was not intentional on my part. But the holy spirit was actually helping me pray for him. When I realized this, I became more hopeful, and my heart was encouraged.

I was excited then in a way I had never been before. I was going to have the holy spirit inside of me, and I wanted to meet him there.

once this union of desire between my human spirit and the holy spirit had occurred, ……suddenly, foreign words proceeded out of my mouth and the real “holy living waters” just flowed out.

I prayed in tongues for about 2 more hours. I was so happy. this spiritual union is like a marriage of two souls, ….it is a strong sense of unity and acceptance and love.

Some people have no trouble receiving the holy spirit in a group environment. I had to get alone with God first. So, I would encourage you to find what is comfortable for you and pursue it when you are ready.

Tongues has helped me when I needed to pray and did not know what to say. this is because the holy spirit will provide the words, and even though they may be a mystery to us, the Father will understand what is said.

it is the language of heaven only, and the devil has no clue what you are saying, and cannot act against your prayers, since he does not understand them. this gives your prayers the opportunity to be successful without interference.

    • hello jerome

You are your family have our prayers for healing, and the wisdom and blessings of the Lord. You ask for good things, not bad, and God hears your prayers.

  60. Well, where do i begin . I received the gift of the Holy Spirit after being saved . I prayed so hard my lips trembled. I felt like something was going to happen but my shyness in church made it hard to let what ever was happening out. When Pastor Cox put his hand on my head I began to speak in another language . I was present and aware of my surroundings but I was not in controll of the words coming out of my mouth. I felt peace and my shyness was gone. When it stopped I was a little shy . I do have difficulty speaking in tongues in front of others . If some is praising to God too loudly in their own travails and feeling sorrow sometimes it affects my prayer connection to God. How do I over come this . I am now baptised and filled with the Holy Spirit. The changes in me are instant. The aggrevation I always feel is gone. I am at peace . I feel an urgency in me now . Like God has something for me to do . Kind of the feeling you have when you know something is about to happen . But in a good way. I Spoke in tongues briefly when I was baptised. I dont know about other people but tongues only happens to me after intence heartfelt prayer to God. I go to a Pentecostal Church now. Pastor Cox believes we are not baptised into a church or religion as other churchs believe. That we are baptised into christ. And our salvation is through christ . JESUS. Our church is a place we go to worship . To pray loudly . Or softly as if we were in our closit. If you can go to a football game and jump and yell. Or a concert and jump and yell . ALTHOUGH I HAVE NOT DONE EATHER. (Told this to a coworker that said pentecostals were to loud. ) Why not jump and yell, ERGO PRAIST GOD. She said I was right.I am still shy about praising God and hope I will one day beable to do so with all I have and not always worry who is watching me. After all I JESUS could be flogged , and carry his own cross , and be crucified for me , cannot I praise him with all my heart and soul . PS My shyness in church comes from being in past religions that taught to be quiet in worship. ergo JW. For ten yrs. I studied with the JW. Was never good enough to qualify for baptism. Never could muster up to their standards of never missing meetings door to door. ERGO salvation by works. Thank GOD I WAS DELIVERED FOR THAT DOCTRIN. Although I know they were good people I was missled by wrong teachings. Plus our instructions come from the elders higher up in the church. The KJV bible I raad tells me that the HOLYSPIRIT will teach me not man. AMEN , GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

  61. Dear Brother, please, in the name of the Almighty, pray that I will receive this Holy Spirit baptism. I have been seeking for many years. Yes, years! and have not received it. I believe in it with all my heart. I have prayed earnestly as the Bible says to do. I have fasted, but still it does not come. I have asked that He show me why, what is wrong with me. I do not get an answer to that. I do not know what else to do. My pastor says I am not seeking hard enough. When I pray earnestly and with fasting, that is all I know to do. I ask that you and your congregation please remember me when you pray. I know someone out there has the faith that the Bible speaks about when It says they laid their hands on them and they received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. My honest prayer is that you and yours has this faith and that I will receive the Holy Spirit baptism.
Blessings to you and yours in our Holy Saviors name. Belinda

  62. dear belinda

I will contact you offline. You can respond to my email.

you should get a breakthrough soon.

  63. Mu husband and I both are new to the truth about tongues. We were raised in baptist churches and never heard of it until someone confronted me about it.. We both believe with all our hearts about tongue being evidence of the holy spirit, we both were baptized in Jesus nme today, I was so overwhelmed and crying before I was baptized, after I came up I praised Gid but was very distracted with them praying around me, but my hands were trembling and I could feel His presence, my husband came out of the water, said thank you Lordnllease give me your spirit and he was filled praise God. I’ve turned from my sins and have been dedicated to God, I desire Him with all my heart, I was just wondering if by being able to totally focus in God bc I was hearing them praying around me could’ve kept me from receiving it?

    • hi kelli

Coming from the baptist church to a pentecostal one is a big change.

You both felt the power of god in different ways.

Do not feel like you had a “lesser experience.”

each person has a unique personality, and relates to others and god in unique ways.

it could be that your husband “fit” better in that church experience, and so he received the tongues there.

it may be that your time will be a private one, when no one is around.

i also was prayed over in church meetings and nothing happened.

I felt inhibited by the people around me, and self conscious.

Finally, I got alone with the Lord, told him I wanted his spirit and did not want to leave my bedroom until I had his baptism of the holy spirit.

I prayed and sang songs for about 45 minutes, and suddenly my words changed into a different language. One person who counseled me told me not to use english and to just open my mouth in faith and utter sounds, and let god get a hold of my mind and tongue. that worked.

one person i know got his tongues in the middle of a wheat field.

my mother got “one word” to begin with . ha! such a small start…but with time, as she prayed her one word, it grew into more words.

you are a unique person. just trust god and relox. disconnect your brain, and connect your spirit, and just give yourself to god.

things will happen when they are meant to happen.

do not give up or be discouraged….the promise is yours.

    • Hi Kelli,

If I may also comment as well,

You might not ever receive the “gift of tongues” but may find out over time, that you have been given a completely different gift.

In 1 Corinthians 12, Paul speaks specifically about the Spiritual gifts.

In the King James verses 4, 5 & 6. say “Now there are “diversities” of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are “differences” of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are “diversities” of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. ”

The 3 words that are in quotations above within the 3 verses, are derived and translated from the same Greek word, (διαίρεσις, or transliterated as diairesis).
Within its definitions it means “a distinction and difference in distribution”.

Verses 12: 8 through 10 express what these gifts are, and Paul says “to another” 8 times in between each specific gift that he mentions. These words are translated exactly as the Greek word is defined, and would do more than suggest that the Spirit gives one gift to one individual and “to another” a “distinctly different” gift.

Personally I don’t speak in tongues, but am more than aware that I have the gift of discernment. Regarding your last comment were you state your concern in respects to whether the people that were praying around you could somehow hinder the Almighty God our Father and His Spirit from accomplishing His will, I would have to answer your concern with “No”. There is absolutely nothing that can hinder God.

I suggest that you simply be patient, and in time your gift will be revealed.
God Bless You and your Husband for truly becoming part of the family. 🙂

Be Blessed in Yeshua our Holy and Precious Savior. Our Glorious KING of kings.
      Amen.

  64. Has anyone received the Holy Spirit and then decided it was fake?

    • dear curious

you either receive the holy spirit or you don’t.

if you receive the holy spirit, then you will have good fruits in your life, to show the goodness withing you.

if you receive another spirit, which is not holy, then you will continue to have sin in your life, and produce bad fruits.

it is possible that one can receive the wrong spirit, use it for awhile, and then realize that he has been cheated. this would be the work of the holy spirit to give this revelation and help the person change.

however, from what I have seen, some people who accept the wrong spirit like it, and do not want to change.

the person with the wrong spirit who wanted to change would have to have the wrong spirit cast out of him before he can accept the holy spirit . the holy spirit will not enter an unclean vessel.

  65. Ok, so the answer is yes.

What does it feel like to receive the Holy Spirit? I don’t mean how do you feel about it happening. I mean, literally, when the experience is taking place, how does it feel? Is it somehow “otherworldly,” or does it feel like Christmas day.

    • Let me explain why the answer is yes. Look at this from my point of view. Presumably, I could locate a real person who would tell me a) I received the Holy Spirit. b) I did not invent the experience, but I believe it was fake.

You might say that it was not the Holy Spirit this person received, but then from my perspective, what’s to say that *you* do not have a demon? The only thing I have to go on is that you say, “I have the Holy Spirit.” Your story is not privileged in any way.

In fact, if you were the only person telling me this story, I would quickly conclude that your brain was broken. But there are a large number of people who claim they’ve had this numinous experience.

      It’s very interesting.

      • dear curious

the evidence of the presence of the holy spirit is in the person’s life.

you do not have to take their word for it.

the holy spirit will produce holiness in the person’s life, and not more sin.

    • dear curious ( again 🙂 )

I would have to say the experience might be different for each person.

some may have a dramatic experience, some may have a very simple one.

in my case, it was a quiet, private experience, in which I received the gift of tongues, and I started to pray in an unknown language.

  66. Hello everyone! I was doing some searches. I need a little help understanding a smell or odor. I receive a deliverance on yesterday. I have been going through rough times; finance. I didn’t know how I was going to pay my rent, and God gave me a miracle. Later during dinner, I begin to smell something sweet like. I thought it was my hands sand sanitizer at first. Then I begin to smell my food, and my cup. It didn’t quit smell like what I was smelling. Later, I fall asleep, and awake up. It was a gas like odor. It seem to appear to be all over my house. From my bedroom on my side of the bed, where I had my bible sitting, it was like I was still asleep, but awake. Somehow I went back to sleep. This morning when I awake, the smell was super strong, very gas order like. In my bed room and very much so all through my living room, just seem to been everywhere. I didn’t check my daughter’s room. Lately, I have been smelling a odor. I smell it from my head board, I begin to wash my head board. I no longer smell that smell.,, and last night the gas like smell. Not burn smoke like, but more like gas, an after smell or some sort. I’m trying to explain best way I know how. I was reading, and I sound like a after smell. It has cool down now, but can anyone explain. I have been learning a lot about Wisdom, I found her in the book of proverbs, and I have been calling on her quit often.

  67. I have another experience I’m going through. Now I never been the one to try and force tongues. Since I have turn my whole heart back to God, and I mean my whole heart. I do not partake in anything I use to do. I no longer sin with my body, nothing, I just awake early, pray unto the father, and read. I been such of a reading soul. I love to read, yet, I have been just reading God’s words. It seems my my sense in my nose area is more sense than what it was before. I could always seem odor from anywhere; but now it works so heavy on me more than ever. I know it spiritual connected. However, when I enter into my prayer closet, I pray to the father, start off with thanksgiving unto him. I go on fourth praying, I try not to be in formal thoughts as I’m praying to the father, because usually we ought not to know what to pray for; my issues of course, I bring unto him. Then the spirit takes over me, I find myself in singing like tone, not speaking in tongues, but more like hard down singing like. If anyone understands where I’m coming from. It’s like, I can feel my heart taking small breaks through out my praying, they are very short like. I no longer sound like me, my voice becomes hard like, more like preacher like; I’m in a deep prayer, my body gets hot, and I tend to sweat a lot of times, I feel weak like sometimes after prayer. I tend to see purple sometimes as well in my prayer, .. I be sort of tired. My mouth flips a lot, my lips are very easy to move; then sometimes my lips shake so much, another sound tends to come out, no prayer, just sounds …

    • dear Waakeelah

the gas smell may be real, unless you do not have gas utilities.

But if it is spiritual, then prayer and commands out loud for it to leave in Jesus name will help this.

Possibly, after your deliverance, the spirits decided to hang around, to see if you would take them back. they do not like to leave their host.

They also do not read your mind, so if you want them to know something, you have to say it out loud. They have to obey when the name of Jesus is used.

They may resist, and be stubborn to begin with, but if you persist, they eventually have to do what they are told.

They are nothing in power, and you have more authority than they do. they just hope you do not know that, and will let them hang around, so they can reinfect you at some point.

Just imagine them about the size of a housefly. Having one around is annoying, so you would either kill it or get it to fly outside.

In the same way residual spirits are like flies,…..annoying. so just get rid of them as you would get rid of any household pest.

Command them to leave in Jesus name, speak out loud to them, tell them you are under the blood of Jesus and they have no permission to stay, so they must leave. Keep doing this until they get the point. they may play dead, and pretend they are not there, so you will give up, and then pop up again. If so, repeat the process.

also playing praise music helps. they hate praise music.

the other experience while in prayer. it may be the holy spirit moving in you. trust God and see where that takes you. he may be letting you experience some of his power and presence, to give you reassurance.

      • Actually, demons have very good taste in music and enjoy the odd praise tape. They also enjoy classical music and adult contemporary.

  68. Good morning Marianne. Thanks for your response, I spoken with my Pastor on yesterday about the scents I have been smelling. She mention it’s nothing evil, as I begin to look up fire / gas online, it speaks of the spiritual ways of God. Some people smell sweet scents, etc,. I ask her was it evil, that’s what I thought. She mention she would smell sweet scents, after prayer. I have asked God to send anything that wasn’t of him back to the pits of hell in the name of Jesus, …. I will continue to pray, and seek God daily. I thank you so much for your response. 🙂

  69. 70. I recently got babtism in the holy spirit in my church and of late everytime when I am praying I hear some sounds speaking in toungues on my left ear.Is it in any way a stage for me to speak in toungues.I usually experience this when praying in church but nothing when I am alone.

  71. hello..ur writing has been a real blessing however how do i know the tongues i speak is of the holy spirir and no the spirits of darkness

    • jamie

the tongues is evidence of a spiritual presence.

if the presence is dark, then you will have negative behavior. if the presence is the holy spirit, you will be trying hard to achieve holy behavior.

we ask in faith, so we have to trust God to give us what we ask for.

what makes you doubt the tongues you have?

  72. I was first introduced to the baptism of the Holy Spirit about 3-4 months ago after hearing a sermon about it at my church. After studying the scriptures, reading different literature and discussing it with brothers from church & the pastor, I decided that this is something I want to pursue. The Lord revealed to me of things I had to repent of and He searched my heart to flush out what my motives were. As I was researching, praying and seeking the Lord, more and more the Lord led me to people and situations where I saw the Lord work in supernatural ways. So about 2 weeks ago, a brother at my church laid hands on me to receive baptism of the Holy Spirit. I read in your initial blog entry that when someone receives this baptism of the Holy Spirit, “It is not a dream, and is done consciously…. although the person is not controlling the words spoken.” 2 nights ago, I had 3 dreams in succession that leaves me unsure whether I received the Holy Spirit. I have read and heard many testimonies about the baptism of the Holy Spirit and they all seem to differ in some way. Perhaps you might have an explanation of what happened to me? The first dream / vision occurred shortly I went to bed, I felt this wind blowing at me towards the side of my face, as this was happening I felt my tongue moving uncontrollably and then somehow I thought, I should open my mouth and try to vocalize but I didn’t hear any sounds. During all this, I couldn’t move, I couldn’t get up and after an unknown amount of time, it ended and I woke up. Shortly after I fell asleep again, I saw a man trapped under a car or some sort of structure. I was moved to go and pray for him so I went towards him, laid hands on him and prayed for him. After praying, he said to me I am alright, I am not hurt and I can get up. So he got up and the dream ended. Finally, in the 3rd dream, I was in a room with many people in some sort of fellowship meeting. Some food was being passed around and a brother came up to me, I told him what had happened in the first dream. After that, all the people in the room gather around me and we rejoiced in the Lord.

In your experience, what should I do? Pray and seek confirmation from the Lord? Is it a meaningless dream and I should continue to seek baptism consciously? I have not had an instances of praying or speaking in tongues since this happened.

    • dear kevin

It sounds like you have had the gift of tongues on your mind when you went to sleep, and this desire manifested during the first dream.

You have a desire to pray for others, which is a good thing. the last dream showed others rejoicing because you are making progress toward your final goal. The holy spirit is with you.

You have just not, from what I understand, not spoken in tongues during your awake life. The first dream is showing you that it is right there, ready for you to take hold of. You asked for the gift and the holy spirit indicated a “yes” response.

Take some time alone and pray more for this gift of tongues. Just follow the instructions in the post and relax. know that the holy spirit wants to be a part of your prayer life.

Persist until your have the manifestation of tongues. Then you can pray without ceasing, because the spirit will help you.

      • Hi Marianne,
Thank you for your very prompt response, I am thankful for your encouragement. Your initial comment was accurate in that I had just finished reading some material on the gift of tongues and the baptism of the Holy Spirit just before I went to sleep. I was praying about it and thinking about it before I fell asleep.

After receiving your response, I see that my dreams were given to me to drive out whatever doubts that still linger in my mind about the gifts of the Spirit. As you said, the dreams showed me that the Spirit is willing and I am going in the right direction.

A missionary pastor and his wife prayed over my wife on that same day before I had the dreams. He saw that my wife and I were standing in front of a table with wrapped gifts. He explained that they were the gifts of the Spirit waiting for us to be opened and used for the Kingdom of God.

All this is very encouraging. I thank you for your ministry, I pray that the Lord bless you as you continue His work in obedience.

        • dear kevin

thank you for sharing that report. I am blessed to hear it. you will need the tongues to pray in the dark days ahead, as trouble comes to our nation. draw close to God, and prepare to provide food water for the home, and other supplies, and to defend family against enemies. if you see disasters happening, plan to stay at home, and no be transported anywhere…..if you go with emergency police, you will never come home.

  73. I have to be sinless in order to speak in tongues and be baptized in the Holy Spirit? Is the baptism temporary? I heard with His help, we can ward off sins, therefore I do not think we should be sinless before baptism, but rely on the power of the Holy Spirit to become pure. I have prayed the prayer of the Holy Spirit baptism, is it normal right now I don’t feel anything extraordinary?

    • reachuntoheaven

you should not be living a lifestyle of sin. we all make occasional mistakes, and can receive the baptism .

the important thing is that we are not committing sin all the time, and sorry immediately for anything we do wrong .

keep praying for the baptism, relax, and disconnect your mind. it may be that you are waiting for hard for it that you have locked up your mind.

or that you are making yourself nervous. when you are fully receptive, he will come.

  74. When i pray in tongues it doesn’t sound beautiful like some ive heard,it just sounds like bouncing from my tonge, are there different levels of prayer and am i at a lower or baby level.?

    • lee

Do not concern yourself with how it sounds. it is all “holy spirit” level.

the holy spirit tailors the tongues to fit your need, spirit and personality.

some tongues sound aggressive, for example, this may be to help a weak person feel strong.

other tongue may sound soft, to help a bold person be more gentle.

so whatever it sounds like, just accept it, and it may change over time as you change also.

the important thing is to let the holy spirit pick the words…he knows what is in your heart and knows how to express this to the Father in heaven.

be blessed and enjoy God’s presence.

  75. Speaking in tongues will in fact occur as it did on the day the church of Jesus Christ was birthed by the very blood of God. See Ac.2:1-4 notice that it fell on each of them and in the next verse it says and they all spoke with tongues as the spirit gave them the utterance! 3And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. because Jesus is the Spirit of Prophecy as sen in Rev.19:10, which if studied out the word for prophecy here also means testimony so it we have the Spirit of Jesus Christ in us, which is the Spirit which the world cannot receive because it sees Him not as seen in Jn.14:6-18 which will come to you, and be with you, and inside you! This is in fulfillment of scripture as seen in Jn.3:3-8 or you are none of His yet still as seen in Ro.8:9! So when we receive the Holy Spirit we will not need to ask anyone, it will be a very profound experience and everyone around you will in fact know it, because you will be filled with such joy and love for your fellow man and indeed you will in fact receive a new heart; a pure heart that will help you to be strong in faith to keep all scriptures because of the Love of God in your heart: 2 Tm.2:19Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. 20But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. 21If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work. 22Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. This speaking in tongues was given for the very sign to each of them who were in the upper room; 120 of them in fact which received this gift; it was in fact given for this purpose, so that all people would know when you receive it; just as the Lord separated the men at the Tower of Babel for a sign, to judge them for their sin; God is using tongues in the age of grace for the initial evidence of the Baptism of the Holy Ghost because in fact the tongue is the only organ in man’s body that he cannot rule over as seen in Jms.3:8But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
Many people get confused by what the Apostle Paul said when he was talking about tongues, when he asked to all speak in tongues? Paul was speaking about the gift of multiple languages, which I have, as well as the gift of prophecy, because the Spirit of Jesus is the gift of prophecy and all of them who were in the upper room were prophesying as they spoke in tongues! If you read about Charles F. Parham in the Topeka Kansas was the later day outpouring. Parham asked his students to search through the Bible and find out what was the sigh or evidence of the Baptism of the Holy Ghost; while they were studying it out and searching through ever document and source they could find about the Baptism of the Holy Ghost they discovered, that sometimes the Holy Spirit comes on people while they are being preached to, before baptism of the water as with Cornelius, and sometimes as with the Samaritans by the laying on of hands after being baptized in the glorious name of Jesus Christ for there is no other name by which salvation comes (Ac.4:12) for this reason all the Apostles baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ! Even Paul did the same with the disciples of John the Baptist in Ac.19:1-7 and when he laid hands on them they received the baptism of the Holy Ghost and prophesied! I don’t need to remind my readers yet again that God chances not do I? (Mal.3:6 and that all gifts the come down from above are without repentances as shown in Jms.1:16Do not err, my beloved brethren. 17Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.) For this reason Charles Parham and his students had shown that the true sign for receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit was in fact the receiving of the gift of tongues as shown by the Apostle Peter explaining to the council of elders why he baptized Cornelius in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins because he had indeed received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit the same as they all had as read here; as we read Peter’s testimony in Ac.11:12And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting. Moreover these six brethren accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house: 13And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter; 14Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved. 15And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. 16Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. 17Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?18When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life
There are two verses in the Holy Bible which say that people will be baptized with the Holy Ghost and with fire and only one verse in Mark (1:8) that says they will be baptized with the Holy Ghost. This is that verse that they use to preach the other gospel the Apostle Paul referred to in his writings; you know those who say that all believers receive the Holy Spirit when they receive Jesus as there saviour: but that is not what our Lord Jesus said; we must be baptized of the water and of the spirit or we cannot go into heaven, see Jn.3:3-8! This is in fact the confirmation that the church’s received who were written of in the Epistles as seen in 1 Cor.1:1Paul called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother, 2Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their’s and our’s: 3Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. 4I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ; 5That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge; 6Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you: 7So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ: 8Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord. 10Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
For this very reason we must always use all scripture before we start trying to set doctrine which is teachings for the edification of the church body! see Deu.4:1-2, this is what is meant by not going to the right hand or the left see Deu.5:32-33 and Josh.1:7!
The information about Charles Parham and the fist person to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit out of his students was Miss. Ozman on New Years Day as told in the book titled Their Story: 20th Century Pentecostals, pages starting in chapter 3 and 41-44. Authored by Fred J. Foster and published by word aflame press 8855 Dunn Road. Hazelwood, Mo. 63042-2299.

  76. I have ordained as DCNS but this baptism with holy spirit I have praying to have and I have been crying to God over it sometimes I just try to speak new tongue within myself which I know that it is not the real tongue but I need your advise pls.

    • olayera

you are trying too hard. I did the same thing.

Relax. get alone with God. pray for the baptism in faith, ask in the name of jesus…..then disconnect your brain….stop thinking so much so your spirit can take over.

then open your mouth in faith also, but do not use your normal language…..speak nonsense sounds, and ask the holy spirit, again in faith to change them into a personal prayer language…..you are first speaking these nonsense sounds to get your mouth moving in faith, and to cancel any interfering thoughts from your brain….

persist until you have a breakthrough.

It might take awhile, because you may have built up doubt and inhibitions…..it took me about 45 min to an hour….

      be patient..it will come

    • Statistics show that 93% of seekers receive Baptism by the Holy Spirit, on a Tuesday morning, after eating a ham and mustard sandwich. It helps if you sit in a sunny room. You may go outdoors if you don’t have a sun-room. Baptism usually occurs by 11 am by the latest. If you’re not baptized by 11, it’s too late. Saturday night, after eating anchovies, also works for some.

  77. I would like to put it out there that Baptism by the Holy Spirit is a very dodgy concept indeed. For example, some people believe you’re not a real Christian unless you’re had such an experience and many people, including myself as a child, was pressured into having a so-called baptism.

Nor is anyone allowed to question or to criticize Baptism by the Holy Spirit. This is because of the verse in the Bible about blaspheming the Holy Spirit – how this is the one sin that won’t be forgiven by God.

Hence, as a consequence, we have a spiritual experience that everyone is supposed to have (if they’re REAL Christians) and that nobody is allowed to talk about (out of fear of offending the Holy Spirit).

Personally, I find this situation akin to the Emperor wearing no clothes. No one is allowed (like the little innocent child) to point out the Emperor is naked. In the same way, no one is allowed to suggest (or admit) that Baptism by the Holy Spirit is imaginary/a product of human auto-suggestion, lest they appear to be bad Christians in the eyes of their fellow believers.

In short, I think this is a teaching that does more harm than good and leads a lot of good people to imagine they had an experience which they didn’t. I was the most sincere, conscientious believer (heck I was only a child) and received no Baptism by the Holy Spirit. However, like many of my fellow churchgoers, I pretended to be baptixed in order to please my mother/church/pastor and appear to be the same as my peers/friends.

    • george

the baptism of the holy spirit is a real experience.

I am sorry that you had a bad experience when you were younger.

we can have a positive christian life without it however.

if we do have it, and it has to be real, not forced or taught, then there are some personal benefits to it.

  78. hi
everything that could have gone wrong this year has. i was baptised earlier this yearin march. but instead of life gettingbetter.all the negativity i prayed agsinst hascome to takeplace. why is this happening?!! sincerecly hopless

    • angela

Just because you were baptized, does not mean the devil goes away and stops being evil.

You must equip your self spiritually and fight.

There are weak prayers and strong ones. I am not sure what you are battling but I am sending you some prayers to fight against the dark forces, and to build yourself up.

Do not give up….you are having a hard time because the devil does not want to lose anyone….he wants you back so he wears you down so you will give in…..you have the capacity to win through the blood of Jesus…..you have authority you are not aware of…..I encourage you to use it in Jesus name.

Print out the prayers and say them each day. I will be in agreement with you.

  79. Baptism of the Holy Spirit is real encounter with God.Actually that time I recieved the baptism of Holy Spirit,no one taught me how to ask for it or even read something about it.It was just happen when I was tested with fire in my Christian walk,I prayed to God surrendering my life to Him,confessing all my sins, repenting and asking Him to anoint me with the holy spirit, baptized me and open my spiritual ears and my spiritual eyes and while praying with this kind of prayer with my eyes closed,I saw a vision of a dove form on top my head and with this vision I felt sudden inner peace and sense that God was with me and anointing me with His spirit.I did not speak in tongues right away after that baptism,it was 1 week after when I ask by faith to have that gift and right away I did.Since then,I activated and exercise that gift God gave me.At first it was a kind of uttering sounds only but later on,I was able to pray in tongues as the spirit gave me utterance.I just notice also that after my baptism of the holy spirit,I recieved so many revelation and I started to prophecy,I startd to become bold specially in sharing in His word,I started to become hunger in His word,I started to know Him more deeply,I started to easily understand what the scripture mean, and the bible become very live and very active for me.And I notice also that most of my prayers were always answered and I started becoming compassionate, forgiving is very easy for me and when I commit a sin which is not pleasing to God,the conviction is very strong, that will cause me to kneel down right away and confess and ask Gods forgiveness. That is my experience about the baptism of holy spirit.I really encouraged everybody to ask by faith to God for this gift.It is a very wonderful experience that you will not regret.
    Matthew 7:9-11
9 “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

  80. HAVE THERE TESTS BY SCIENTIST ON REAL TONGUES AND FALSE TONGUES?
WE HEAR ANSWER ON WHAT REAL TONGUES EFFECTS THE BRAIN DOES IT EFFECT THE BRAIN DIFFERENTLY ON THE PEOPLE THAT SPEAK FALSE TONGUES ?

All responses will be greatly appreciated

    • mario

Yes there have been scientific and medical studies – brain scans – that show an area of the brain that changes in activity when speaking in true tongues.

Speaking in Tongues – the Science and the Spirit

      Tongues and Brain Scans

Speaking in false tongues would not produce this change since it is conscious activity…..however, someone who is faking it is unlikely to volunteer for a brain scan….

Speaking under demonic possession may produce something similar, or maybe not, since possessed people do not volunteer either. they would show unconscious control.

you may not see an external behavior (during tongues) difference between the fake and the real tongues as the fake would mimic the real christian, and self control is still present with both

….. but with possession, there would be a difference, since there is a loss of self control that is present in non possessed people.

to tell the difference between the fake tongues and real tongues, you would have to evaluate the “fruit of their tree” ……look at their general behavior….do they gossip, want attention, act selfish, act controlling, show unkindness….etc…..people who are fake do fake things…and are hard to be around. and they continue in sin….they lack the holiness of the holy spirit…..

  81. I have a question, I do not have the gift of tongues, I am not bitter against anyone who does, however, a situation in church is leaving me not truly knowing my heart. there is a woman who shakes her right hand up,down all around and everyone dealing with her seems to shortly after start doing the same thing, I find it offensive and as a mockery, and just plain fake, and I leave for the part of church service she is involved in, I have prayed and asked God to deal with me and my heart, how do you know if you’re right or you are being defensive?

    • margana

I do not know why she is doing this with her hand, but if she is doing it to attract attention to herself, then she is “in the flesh.”

If this makes you feel uncomfortable, then do not go there. The holy spirit is a comforter, not something that spooks you.

If you want, talk to the pastor, if he is not helpful, then you have done what you were supposed to do there, and it is time to leave. there is nothing wrong with “quiet time with God.” do not feel required to stay.

  82. I’ve just witness someone speaking in tongues. To be more specific my husband’s been going through a lot lately. Last night I won’t up because I could hear some what of a demonic voice and it was my husband . He was sleeping and whispering in a deep manly voice. I wasn’t in English though. He speaks English and Portuguese but it was either of those languages it was scary .The only thing I could understand from what he was saying was my name and my daughters name.for and hour and a half he was doing this. I wanted to wake him up but I was more scared then anything so I would try to nudge him.he wouldn’t wake up. Then out of no where he woke up saying it was too hot .and proceeded to comes downstairs to turn off the heat. When I came down I the morning it was freezing in my house. I noticed he didn’t turn down the heat, he completely shut it off. You could see you breath. When asked about the entire situation he has no recall what so ever. I asked if in the past few weeks through all the bad that’s happend if he has spoken against God but he says no he’s been praying to him. I can’t help but be frightened and curious as to what exactly just happened. Can someone please help me.

    • dear gabrielle

Does your husband normally speak in tongues? Sometimes a person’s voice changes when that happens, but usually it does not.

your husband may be oppressed by something….usually other people do it and curse their victims….just to be nasty and mean.

discuss this with your husband, since he does pray, he will want to know about this.

I am sending you some prayers against witchcraft and some other prayers to print out and say each day…maybe bedtime is the best time, or more than once a day…if you wish.

I will be in agreement with you.

remember, as believers YOU have the authority, NOT the devil…..so stay strong and attack anything that tries to hurt you.

  83. ever since i got baptized i been trying to speak in tongues but i haven’t been able to yet, i know i should go to the bible for my answers and pray to God but tonight for the first time i looked up it online and found two great advice this was the seconded one and i enjoyed reading it as well, many times i have wondered if maybe im doing something wrong or if maybe i have fear or doughts one thing for sure that i know is that when the time comes God will fill me with it so for now i need to work on praying more and on having more faith in God because its gotten to the point where i sometimes cry over the fact that i have tried praying to receive it but i never end up speaking in tongues so maybe i need to take a few steps back and not stress to much over it not get discouraged. i mean i just dont understand why i havent spoken in tongues yet 😦 and it makes me sad because i know that im special to God and that the moment i can speak in tongues wonderful things will happen i know this so well because God has put that in me but now im just sad i truly want it but i guess God says its not time yet :(…..

    • dear rodalis

the same thing happened to me, and many others….it is nothing you are doing wrong.

just relax..you are just too nervous and confused about it.

you are using your brain and thinking about it too much

get alone, with no one around, so you do not have to worry about what they think or hear

maybe play some beautiful worship music

ask the holy spirit to come into you….

      then…

.disconnect your brain….do NOT think about what to say

open your mouth and just say anything…nonsense sounds

do not speak english or whatever your native language is

open your mouth in faith, and continue to utter the nonsense sounds….

be patient…..the holy spirit is there, but he is waiting for you to relax, because he will not force himself on you, or scare you if you are nervous.

just focus on him…and who he is and how kind and loving he is…..

and speak the sounds that come out of your mouth…do not think about what to say….just say any sound

in time, when you are relaxed enough, he will replace your sounds with HIS words…and you will either slowly or quickly sense a difference in what you are saying.

I was self conscious like you…it took me about 45 minutes….

    • I don’t see any direction in God’s Word for “uttering nonsense sounds” as a means to accepting a gift from our Lord. In Acts they waited in obedience for the One He promised. Thus, wait humbly for what Christ has for you. And then obey Him as He leads.
God bless your honest, obedient, desire to serve Him. Focus on serving those in need. Not on what you can get.
      Layton

      • Layton

the nonsense sounds was just something to get me to relax, since I was nervous about it..sometimes we think so hard about something that we shut out what God has for us, because our focus is on what we think, rather than what God is doing.

  84. Oh wow this is some very good advice thank you, and i’ve never prayed for 45 minutes but slowly its gone from 1 to 5 to 10 now i can do 30 im sure that at home alone like you said ill be able to do it and were all different so it might not take 45 if im lucky and it could also take longer hahah but thank you so much i feel alot better hearing that advice

    • rodalis

the length of time is not as important as your desire and persistence….if God sees that you really want something and won’t give up until you get it, he will give it to you….!

I had made a kind of funny remark before I started…..I said Lord, I want your holy spirit, I love him, and I am not getting off my knees until I have him!…..then i just starting making my foolish noises….until it all changed into something wonderful…

if I had to kneel there 5 hours I would have done it….this is how badly I wanted the holy spirit to fill me completely….

remember, you are not asking for a THING…..you are asking for a PERSON….

and why do you want HIM?……..

just to have “something” or because you want to be closer to God?

so get your heart straight, then disconnect your brain, and let your spirit take over.

  85. To disconnect your brain is not something I can accept ! We must always be in control ?N No ? Because what kind of spirit jumps in ? … any idea ?

    • curtis

we do not literally disconnect the brain or we would be dead…..

it is just an expression meaning to stop thinking so hard about trying to do this yourself….and relax and let god do it….

the holy spirit is who “jumps in” because he is the one invited in

  86. Interesting and honest comments. A major focus of my current prayers and future ministry is honesty of worshiping in spirit and truth in our gathering together across the US. I was raised in a crazy, out of control, Pentecostal meeting and left at the altar at 9 allegedly with a demon holding my tongue from speaking in tongues. After 40+ yrs of resentment and distrust I am back in fellowship. Many pains were experienced in my absence by grabbing what I could from the world…but, the Holy Spirit brought me back to focus on actively loving the Church(es) I left. After a few intense years of study and prayer I am convinced that many, many meetings of believers are engaged in counterfeiting of gifts and in worshiping gifts rather than the person of Christ. The counterfeiting of the Lord’s gifts is obviously not something any of us should attack alone. It is evil to the core. I will be travelling as a guest, in prayer, to as many meetings as I can to address the evil presence that encourages the focus in worship on anything but Christ.
    I would appreciate your prayers.
Seek Him humbly, reverently, in Truth…led by His Spirit.

    • dear Layton

I am sorry you had that traumatic experience. at such a young age, you were really pushed into it, and then criticized for not “getting it.”

I have had the same experience. many churches put too much pressure on people, like it is a do or die requirement to be there.

there is definitely an evil presence in some churches….also a false spirit….

but there is also a real holy spirit baptism that people are getting cheated out of because of all the crazy ones…

just because the devil is busy does not mean the holy spirit experience is still real…..and available

the fact that there is a counterfeit means the real thing is still around.

when I finally received the baptism of the holy spirit, it was in the privacy of my room. no pressure from other people……

I found the secret was to ask God for a person, not a thing…..someone who loves me and wants to fill me

you have my prayers….first for the genuine experience if you have not had it yet….and then for your efforts to warn others about the counterfeit.

  87. Yes, I would agree. My best thinking comes nowhere close to what I feel from the Lord. I prefer not to speak much of what I experience in consistent prayer and when reading His Word. The “experiential blessings” of His Spirit that well-up from within are beyond words…However, I am careful to not worship experiences. When praying for others I do make room for “groanings too deep for words”…which means: any words. I pause in silence while the Spirit then prays for me and the ones of my focus.

Pausing when about to witness or share His Word with others allows my thinking to cease and make room for the Lord to bring His Word needed by those in the audience. I prepare daily in His Word and through prayer…but Christ and His Spirit know better than I what is needed by those within the hearing of my voice. Thus, the power and discernment of the Holy Spirit then leads on.

  88. Layton,

    God Bless you!

What a blessing to read your comment/replies.

I’ll remember you with Paul’s prayer for the leaders of His Church.

“I thank my God upon every remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy, for your fellowship in the gospel… being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ…that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God” (Philippians 1:3-11, NKJV).

  89. its true now how can you differeciat the fake tongues and true one?

    • ohnib

You can tell the fake from the true tongues by the “fruit” of their tree….

true tongues produces holiness….fake tongues allows sin to continue.

  90. Very helpful and I desire this gift so much

  91. Just want to say that was good i understand toungh but i need to go higher in the gift but more. So i need to get clooser back to GOD so will you pray for me

    • james

yes, I will pray that the holy spirit takes you deeper in god, and brings you closer to Him. may the Lord bless you with his presence.

  92. John 7:37 is not about desiring tongues it says-On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.

  93. I spoke in tongue twice in the natural but in my dreams when am under spiritual attack only when I speak in tongues the spirit leave . Why am I not able to speak in tongues again

  94. Thank you for your response to my question. Someone at church told me that I am not filled because I donot speak in tongues that’s why I ask the question. Is this true

    • afreka

some people lack the understanding about what to ask for, so it is possible to be filled with the spirit and NOT speak in tongues.

most people ask for the spirit and tongues at the same time, and get both.

the question is, have you ever asked to be filled with the spirit?

in your case, it seemed like you were speaking in tongues without asking for this.

also, I have a friend who was newly saved, and just started speaking in tongues without knowing HOW to ask.

I think is is an individual situation. God reads our hearts and takes care of our needs.

If you are not sure, then just ask the Lord for Tongues to make your request official…and then see if you can speak in tongues after you experience his spirit.

for me, it took about 45 minutes between asking for the gift, and it actually manifesting with tongues.

once tongues happens to you, you should be able to speak in tongues at will.. and not have to wait until you are asleep.

  95. I thank God for the gift of life i have been saved and i thank God have struggled have encountered demonic attack brought by envy of education i need help on how to be baptised through the holy spirit my spirit to be filled completely demonic power i hope how demons entouer people like i read in emmanuel eni’s book called deliverance from power of darkness

  96. Hi. I have never spoken in tongues, but I had an unusual experience when I was 23 that I assume was the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. I would love to find others who have had this same t , which is really difficult to explain TThe only way I know to describe it actually makes it seem like a negative thing, but I don’t mean it that way. Before the experience, the world had lots of form, and now everything seems flatter. Before, every now and again I would perceive that other people seemed to be held in place by something invisible, like everyone .else got an invisible bubble to live in The night of my experience, something poured itself into me, and it was like I was given my “bubble” for the first time . In the weeks following, I kept saying to myself, “So THIS is how everyone else is interacting with the world!” It explained a lot to me about how people are able to work mundane jobs without losing their minds. I still can’t stand mundane jobs, but I am able to hold a job now since my “bubble” makes me separate from my work, and I can now kind of rest and work at the same time. I hardly ever notice how flat everything and everyone looks now. I have just gotten used to it. Sometimes I actually get nostalgic for the old days though, when everything seemed more normal, in a way. I know this all sounds cooky, but I am telling you it is all 100 percent the truth. Not telling you all this for attention. Just want to find others who have been through this.

    • simone

that does not sound like the baptism of the holy spirit, but it seems to be a good experience where you feel at peace in a difficult work environment.

what you may have experienced is the presence of the holy spirit (his peace) without it actually being the baptism itself.

I had an experience like that once….it lasted 2 weeks… no one could bother me, no matter how mean they tried to be…finally after 2 weeks one person apologized to me, because my peacefulness made her feel guilty

if you had received the baptism, you would have starting speaking in another language.

so why not pray for the baptism, and have another nice experience? 🙂

  97. Telling someone that they have not received the Holy Spirit because they dont prove it to YOU by speaking in another language is A LIE straight from the devil. You will receive your just punishment from our Lord.

  98. I have had the “experience” …and it does not warrant the elevating a person to declare who and how a person should personally “experience” God’s presence. Your pride steers your insistence that people experience the Lord’s leading in the way you do….thank God we are UNIQUE.

    • there is no pride involved here, at least not from my direction…you are quite accusatory…

I gave a biblical response… it is in the book of Acts, if you wish to read it.

the tongues accompanied the baptism…..so your argument is with the bible , not me

you may need a refresher of the experience..

  99. Is this website still active. If so I would like to talk to someone

  100. I blow in the tongues very well but I am not strong in spiritual aspect

  101. Is speaking in tonues the only evidence or proof of the presence of the Holy Speaking?

Can one be filled with the Holy Spirit and not speak in tongues?

Can the Holy Spirit be in a christian and be dormant?

    • Akpama

If you are saved, rejecting sin, loving God, and walking in the spirit of the Lord, showing good fruits, then you have the holy spirit with you.

the holy spirit does not portion himself out……like a human comparison, he does not give you just an arm or leg or hand….you have the whole person.

he is either with you or he isn’t

as for the tongues, this is a special gift you can ask and pray for….it is a gift like other gifts of discernment, miracles, prophecy, healing etc.

this gift of tongues can be used to preach the gospel to other countries who have a different language from yours…or to express your prayer needs for yourself or others when you do not know what to say.

while other gifts are more strictly assigned by God to believers, tongues is a gift more freely given to most who ask…..so if you desire it, then ask and pray for it….

it is not for public display, but for public or private work for God….intercession or preaching gospel….if you do not wish to do either, or do not feel called in that direction, you most likely will not get it…..but if you do wish to intercede or preach the gospel, then God will most likely give it to you.

  102. I’m still waiting for this gift. I know so many people with the gift of tongues that I feel like a second-class Christian without it. I believe I have a lot of ‘spiritual blockers’ that keep me from receiving which is frustrating, and I feel like God can’t fill me when I’m frustrated. It’s a really bad cycle. I want the gift but often I feel like I’ll never get it because maybe I’m not good enough or God doesn’t trust me or something. I’ve prayed for understanding and patience regarding this matter but I often still feel incomplete as a Christian.

    • angelique

I was that way too. you just need to relax. you are too nervous and self conscious.

get by yourself……ask for the gift…..remember it is a PERSON you are asking for, to come into your spirit and be a part of you…so you are NOT asking for a THING…it is a PERSON…who loves and cares for you.

put on some nice worship music, and just open your mouth and just make sounds in faith, knowing that the holy spirit will take your sounds, and turn them into his words for you….be patient….forget the time….just be persistent. do not say anything in english or any other language you know….the sounds should be nonsense sounds or syllables. this is to get your mouth in motion….it is an act of faith.

doing this will help you overcome your self consciousness which is your mental block, and once you relax, the holy spirit can work better.

I did this and it took about 45 minutes…..maybe it will be different for you, since we are all different….

but do not give up and relax and make this step of faith…and it will work out.

  103. To Angelique, You are believing a lie straight from the author of lies…stemming from the original sin: PRIDE. Anyone who has accepted Jesus as their Savior and Lord has all the Power of God available IN them through the gift of His Holy Spirit who came to dwell in you the moment you accepted salvation. NOW, surrender moment by moment to His Spirit’s guiding and you will receive the Words and Gifts HE decides you should have according to His purpose in you each day….NOT man’s purpose.

Serve OTHERS as He directs you to them….seeking goose bumps is a foolish, sinful endeavor….experiences will come as blessings to you as you FEED HIS SHEEP, unselfishly.

“Do you love me Peter ?….Feed my sheep.”

  104. De Holy Spirit Isnt Power But Is God

  105. […] https://heavenawaits.wordpress.com/baptism-of-the-holy-spirit-tongues/ […]

  106. God is so good and so amazing!! I know he loves me and he knows and hear my concerns. God has given me so many messengers. All of them has played an essential part in my giving my life to God through Jesus Christ. You (Marianne) is most definitely Heaven sent. I’m sharing two of the most captivating paragraphs of your article, that I know the Lord sent me here to see and understand. I am a born again child of God. I truly want the Holy Spirit to fill me up. Yet I do feel self conscious amongst the congregation. I have some kind of fear as well. I have asked the Lord to please forgive me of all my sins. But as you stated, I must know what all the sins are so that I can know that I’m not commiting those sins anymore. So now I know exactly what I need to do in order to receive the Holy Spirit. Thank you so much Marianne for this powerful article. I trust the Lord. I need and want a personal relationship with our Father God through the Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Thank you for these strong key points!
( if you are new to salvation, be sure you understand what sin is, and what activities are sins. You cannot repent of something if you do not know it is wrong.)

  107. in a case where people are called out in church to receive the holy spirit and are told to start speaking in tongues is that the holy spirit?

    • samuel

that really depends on the minister and the person.

it can happen, or it cannot result in anything.

I have been called out like that and I did not receive anything.

or if they are trying to force people to do it , it will not work.

or maybe the person is not ready.

if it does happen, the person will be ready, will have repented of their sins, will accept jesus as savior, and will want this for themselves.

it has to come with ease, the holy spirit will not force himself on anyone.

I received the baptism when I was alone in my bedroom praying for it.

if person has received, then they will continue to pray in tongues when they are alone.

  108. I was speaking in tongue when another girl said my it is a false spirit but a day before then i spoke i tongue and prophecy now am confused does it means that evil spirit can use one to speak in tongue

    • don

what makes this girl an authority on what spirit you have?

if you prayed for the holy spirit, and you were sincere, and had repented of your sins, and gave your life to Jesus, then you would get the holy spirit, if this is what you prayed for.

if you never repented, or gave your life to jesus, and prayed for some other thing, like power or fame, or to get attention, then you might have a different spirit.

it is always possible for someone to have the wrong intentions and receive the wrong spirit, but only you know if your heart is sincere.

so you are the best one to answer this question.

you can always pray and ask the holy spirit to confirm it is him, and to stop the tongues if it is not him.

  109. Some years ago in my dream I spoke unknown language that had no earthly interpretation.I was worried and frighten that I might soon go mad.. One day in such. state of confussion an old prayer warrior in Parish Church told me, you are favoured to speak heavenly angelic language.. To the glory of God today the joy of singing and praying in tongue is great. I experience good health sound mind people doubt my age for I lookYOUNGER than my age. Christains who querel about praying in tongue do know what they miss. I made many recording of my prayers in tongue for us in the interior rural ,no value I always praise God for the gift of tongues, some days I could pray 5hrs.

  110. I’ve been praying and trusting God for the baptism of the Holy Spirit and this has been exceedingly helpful to me. Thank you.

  111. Great article. I’m not sure we can say that the initial evidence of being baptized in the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues. I whole heartly believe in the gift of tongues and have spoken in tongues since I was 13yrs old(I’m now 48). Jesus said that “power” (boldness) and “witness” would accompany the baptism not tongues. I think the language should be that tongues follows but is not the evidence. Acts 2, 10, and 19 support tongues but acts 8 says they were baptized but there’s no mention of tongues. Many people feal rejected because the didn’t speak in tongues and struggle with why. If we teach and emphasize tongues more then the baptism we may be causing people to open there hearts to that spiritual rejection. Just my thoughts.

  112. Marianne, before anyone can receive the Holy Spirit, they must have heard the Good News: we were all separated from God since before birth, but He has provided us with a way to enter His Presence, by accepting that Jesus was the Son of God. Tongues might, or might not, be the initial sign of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. What can be said is that, if somebody speaks in true tongues, they have the baptism of the Holy Spirit (are in the Presence of God, which is another way of saying the same thing). As you have said, there are people who feign tongues, which seems to be on the increase, in my experience.

  113. Marianne, unfortunately, there are also many examples of people giving as prophecy (i.e. God’s words) words that are really their own. Words that are accompanied by true tongues can be discerned as truly God’s words. That is, the tongues authenticate them as God’s words.

    • chas

      I agree again.

I have rarely heard true prophecy……when I did, it hit me between the eye…..nothing mediocre.

      most prophecy today is imagination.

  114. Marianne
The mystery is why people do this. Who do they think God is? One is left to wonder if they really believe in Him at all, because they must think that they know better than Him what people should do/believe, but clearly that would be absurd!

  115. Hi! Thanks for this info. I’m having so much trouble with proving that in order to be spirit filled one has to speak in tongues as a sign. How can I do that? I’m on this app called LINE with believers and they said Tue bible doesn’t prove that at all

    • keyonna

it is in the bible, and in corinthians it is listed as one of the gifts of the holy spirit.

For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit 1 cor 14:2

      Mark 16:17
      And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;

      1 Corinthians 12:10
to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.

      1 Corinthians 12:28
And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues.

      1 Corinthians 13:1
If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

      1 Corinthians 13:2
If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

      1 Corinthians 14:18
I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you.

      1 Corinthians 14:26
What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up.

      1 Corinthians 14:27
If anyone speaks in a tongue, two–or at the most three–should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret.

      • Thank you! So I have another question. Where are most believers getting the idea and belief that not all speak in tongues when the bible says otherwise? When I told them that I wasn’t spirit filled they looked down upon me and said what I believe is wrong.

  116. Hi, I’ve been seeking the baptism of the Holy Spirit for a couple of weeks and have not received it. I’m sold out to Jesus and want to give my life to seeing others saved. Can someone help me with why I am not being baptized?

    • michael

You may feel too much under pressure to receive, and you are self conscious and nervous. this pressure could be from others, or it is self imposed.

Remember, that you are not asking for a “thing” you are asking for a PERSON to invade your life and share HIS gifts:

I am going to give you the same answer I gave angelique above.

“I was that way too. you just need to relax. you are too nervous and self conscious.

get by yourself……ask for the gift…..remember it is a PERSON you are asking for, to come into your spirit and be a part of you…so you are NOT asking for a THING…it is a PERSON…who loves and cares for you.

I did this and it took about 45 minutes…..maybe it will be different for you, since we are all different….

but do not give up and relax and make this step of faith…and it will work out.”

    • Michael, all you need is Jesus – and this blog is false (false down to not a single bible verse to back it up). When we accept Christ, God immediately seals us with His Spirit (2 Corinthians 1:22). This is all we need! Christ is all we need – and when we receive him as his saviour he imparts us with the Holy Spirit! If you have accepted Christ then you are being distracted from this garbage that you have to be now Baptised in the Holy Spirit – focus on Jesus Chris of Nazareth, the one true God!

  117. there was some “ups”, in yours article, but i did think, that you just need time to grow and understand more, but words

“3. you MUST SURRENDER totally to the power of the Holy Spirit. You MUST OBEY Him, as He will expect you to give your life to God.”

    just …
do you know, that Father HATE word “obey”?
it is TRUST He looking for, from us, not obey… and please dont tell me, that OT says many times “if you OBEY…” because…. its totally different meaning there, under that word.
    aswell as NT have.
HE DONT WANT our OBEYING -He HATE THAT!
He want our trust and love and thats it and ONLY!
and, please… HE DONT EXPECT, that you give Him yours life.. no! its not LIFE He wants, because, my dear, its gift for you! He dont want it back. He wish something else, totally, absolutely else.
yeah – HE IS NOT GOD OF SLAVES!
He did come to FREE us (that exclude totally meaning of “obey” you use here), GIVE US LIFE, not taking it!
    get yours facts right

    • dear in rage

it sounds like you need to spend some time reading the bible for the fFIRST time.

since when does god hate those that obey him?

Why would disobedient people trust god, and why would he trust disobedient people?

you need to get saved, and not talk about things you do not understand

  118. Thank you, Marianne!

Unfortunately, Satan and his angels are very deceitful. Also, the power of sin creates so much confusion. God’s love flows beautifully by His Holy Spirit to keep our hearts and minds free as long as we stay submissive unto God.

I have been filled with the Holy Ghost since November 1989. The more I learn, the more I realize I don’t know. However, it is clear to see that you were lead by the Holy Spirit. What you wrote and the way you respond to comments comes from the heart. For some people, it may not be what they want to hear but they NEED to hear it.

I pray that you and your family continue to be blessed and protected in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

  119. Please what can i do that holy spirit of God that came in me we be come power in me

      • I have the gift of speaking in tounges, but the church where I am attending right now dont practice speaking in tounges in service. Do I need to find another church?

        • mercie

that is up to you. you can have a church that is holy before god, led by god, but not spirit filled,

and you can have a spirit filled church.

question is . how comfortable are you? do they welcome you and love you there?

          • Thank you for your reply. Last night, I prayed to God about this and God led me to 1Timothy. And you’re right about asking the question if i’m welcome and love. That’s what God spoke to me last night 🙂 God said love is more important than any personal differences in the family of God. Even doctrinal differences are not as important as love. 🙂 God Bless!

  120. I really appreciate it

  121. I had this experience and I seek it again. I was down on my luck completely strung out on drugs. I was broken and seeking to be well. I went to a Christian Mens home in Penacola FL for a prayer service. There was a little old lady about 90 years old she had just come from missionary service in Isreal I spoke during the prayer service and my spirit and heart was filled with hatred and evil. So after the prayer service the little old lady came over to me and said ” you need to be Baptized with the tounge of God” me thinking that meant one day they were going to put me under water. I said ” when” she said now. So there were couches in the house and we went to a corner couch and she pointed to my head and said” don’t think with that because it’s dirty. So then she pointed at my heart and said ” use this” so she grabbed my hands with her frail old body and she said repeat after me ” the only word out sound I remember was something like Sheeki then we broke away from the world and spoke in tounges I remember being disconnected from the world I remember the pure violent yet beautiful trembles of her arms in convulsions and we were in a world or light and peace and joy and happiness that a million words cannot express.
It was a spiritual experience I am nothing I proclaim nothing I am nothing but a sinner junkie con artist in real life that’s who I am but I had that experience and I believe in Jesus I KNOW that Jesus the Holy Spirit exists. Thanks for letter me share I hope I can feel that amount of love again or any love

    • robert

Sweetheart, I hope this is the beginning of many, many wonderful encounters with God for you.

May God bless you and keep you close to Him

  122. What was this experience I had called?

  123. Thank you so much for this, through this I know God was speaking to me and the truth was shown. I saw where you stated “There is also a proper timing for things of God, so one should not get discouraged if they ask, and there is a delay. A delay is not a denial. There may be a delay because there is something spiritually blocking the person, such a fear, self conscious feelings, doubt, sin, confusion about what the baptism is, need for acceptance or attention, etc. The person needs to relax, be humble, and trust God.”

This whole paragraph is completely me. I’m going through a spiritual block because of fear and doubt.

    • keyonna

it is easy to have a spiritual block. we feel under pressure from others to have what they have.

get alone with god, play some nice holy music, pray out loud, be patient, when the time comes, it will happen

  124. Thank you Marianne for your wonderful and enlightening blog. I have accepted Gods Holy Spirit at 17, and although I’ve had my ups and downs, I hold strong to the cross of Jesus Christ!

I pray you continually touch lives and bless others with your Gift of sharing Gods Love.

    Peace! 🙂

  125. I was laying on the couch it was about 8am Jan.1 1988. I heard an audible voice outside of me, say “Do you believe?”. I said yes, The next thing I know, I get the most euphoric feeling on my forehead, (sorry to say it, but also around my jewels, my tongue goes out from my own control, I am filled with what feels like the Most Holy feeling/ Spirit ever possible and I rise up off the couch about 8 inches for about 30 seconds. I went to my girlfriends house to tell her about it, and expecting to break up with her, (quite honestly I am a bit frightened). She takes me into her kitchen and on her Frig there is a calendar that says, on jan.1 Holy Circumcision Day!. this blows me away, but it also calmed me down alittle, because it seemed to offer me an explanation of what happened. Does anyone know, exactly what happened?. I truly appreciate any truthful insight.

    • Eric,

That was in 1988. What’s occured in your spiritual life since 1988?

Because you’ve posted this in 2016, what occuring now?

Here’s what happened to me. A word was spoken in 2010. He said, “My grace is sufficient for you.”

Since 2010 a great deal has occured in my life. There is evidence of a spiritual and mental change. That’s what happened to me when He spoke those words.

An explanation of what happened to you can be learned In your spiritual fruit and your desires.

      What do you hunger/thirst for?

I think an answer to your question is in your behaviors/actions and passion.

      Blessings
      Psalm 25

    • eric

you are the first one I know to have such an experience. I suggest you pray about it, and ask god to reveal his plans for you

  126. hello I just had a Baptism of the Holy Spirit. I have not receive the gift of tongues. But what I have experienced was, I can hear my heart beating so loud. Any one can explain, what that is? What possible gift am I getting from the Holy Sprit?

    • lime

your heart beating hard means you are excited. it is not a power gift, but receiving the holy spirit is a good thing, so it is nice you are excited about it.

  127. I was baptized yesterday and after my water baptism I went home and did my prayers and wanted to speak in tongues and I did it twice! Words are coming out of my mouth and I seemed unable to control it. I wanted to Speak in tongues again this morning but I just can’t do it. I’m not sure why

    • I was in my drug addiction and I used to go to a Christan Men’s Home and hang out and do the prayer meetings . So one day I was very bitter and angry at my family and I expressed this. After the meeting a little old lady approached me and told me ” you need to be baptized with the Holy Spirit” so we sat down in the corner of the room in a couch. She looked at me and grabbed my arms and she said pointing at my head and heart but to my heart
“Don’t use that (your head) it’s dirty use this”
So she said repeat after me. And we started talking in some strange language and her arms were violently shaking and we got lost in some love and bright light and it was 100% beauty it was the best purest greatest feeling of my life”
It was a miracle it sold me on the Jesus idea. Although I continued in and out of addiction after but it strengthened my faith. Now I’m at a point in life where I truly try to live a service based life. Thank you Jesus I love you!

    • jeannie

if you actually got the baptism of the holy spirit, you should be able to control when you speak in tongues and when you don’t.

the holy spirit allows a partnership, he does not force people. so, being unable to control the tongues indicates it was not the holy spirit you experienced. I am not sure what the atmosphere there was, but something does not sound right.

I suggest you just ask the Lord to give you the true baptism in tongues and go from there. pray, ask and be patient

      • Dear Marianne,

Thanks for your reply. I am not sure if I am speaking in tongues as I was praying to the lord yesterday, I think I should explain more on how I feel yesterday. So that you can have a better picture. I start saying words I can’t understand. My mouth keep babbling with words that I cannot control what I’m talking but my mind is clear, I can control the volume and the speed but not the words that come out from me but this morning when I pray to the lord again I feel that I was just babbling any words I want and not how I felt like yesterday. Can you tell me if I’m actually speaking in tongues yesterday or I’m not. I’m confused.

        • jeannie

it is very possible to get baptized and speak in tongues.

but when you said you could not “control” it, this sounded odd. but if you meant you had no idea what you were saying, then that is normal.

you also said you were unable to speak in tongues the next day. however in this second comment, you said you did “babble” but the feeling was missing.

so I am going by what you say. you have to be clear.

the tongues will not disappear overnight. it is a permanent gift.

if you meant you spoke in tongues one day with great feeling, and the next day you spoke in tongues, but the same feeling was not there, then there is no need to worry. you still have the tongues.

our every day life sets in, and each day may not be as exciting as another day, so “feelings” can come and go, and be positive, neutral or negative.

one purpose of tongues is to give you a prayer language, so you can speak to God, even when you lack the words to express yourself, and do not know what to say. it is then the holy spirit gives you the best words to present your petitions to the Father in heaven.

if you can continue to pray, where the words come automatically, and you are not mentally controlling what words you say, then you are ok, and you have tongues.”

if you are mentally making up the tongues, and constructing the words with your mind, then that is not tongues.

the reason I make this distinction is because some people are being “taught” words to say, as we would learn a language in school, and that is not true tongues. that is counterfeit.’

I hope this explanation is more clear. I do hope you have the true tongues.

          • Dear Marianne,

Thank you for your reply. And I understand more after your explanations 🙂

Can I ask you another question that has been bothering me since this early morning? Previously I do had sleep paralysis (I felt someone was on top of me and I couldn’t wake up, scream or move) before I became a Christian and the sleep paralysis went off after I accepted Christ but this early morning I had the sleep paralysis again. This time I saw a scary faced woman chanting some weird words on my face and I couldn’t move but I managed to force myself to wake up and pray to God to ask the evil spirit to leave. Do you know why this happens after I was baptized?

            • jeannie

your spirit is saved, but your soul still has soul ties to something or someone negative from your past.

this is common since we live in an evil world full of people who wish to harm us., or we have made mistakes, and suffer the consequences of those mistakes…but no saved person has to tolerate demons afflicting them

I am sending you prayers against witchcraft, and curses, for deliverance, and prayers for strength and blessings.

i suggest print them out and say each day until you have relief

if you can, get others to pray with you and for you about this.

I will also agree with you in prayer

  128. One time I was in active drug addiction and my soul was suffering. I used to stop in to a men’s Christian home in Pensacola FL. I would stop in mainly for food or to feel calmed by the energy. They had prayer services twice daily and we used to sing and pray. So one day I came in and I was very angry at my family. So they had a lady there who just came from doing missionary work in Africa or a third world place. She was a frail old lady probably in her 80’s. She heard me speak in my angry nature and after the prayer service or sermon she came and grabbed he and said ” you need to be baptized by the Holy Spirit. Me thinking a water baptism I said when? She said right now. So she took me to a corner of the room ( the men were still there it’s a big Victorian house) I was ready for change so I ignored the fact that everyone could be watching me. So she looks at my head (brain) and says ” don’t use tbat it’s dirty” use (points to heart) she says repeat after me.
So we immediately get lost in the flow of a language of the spirit it wasn’t words it was the nextel direct connect to God to extreme love to extreme bright light. The feeling was by far the best feeling of my life I was lost in love and we were flowing tounges.
Did I immedetly become perfect and not sin again? Was it the sole event that made me saved and be a good person ? No did t make my faith 100% no. Did it help me to increase my faith in Jesus/God/Holy Spirit YES. Today I am at a great place in life. My goal is to be a service based human with less anger resentment impatience. To live life with more love.

  129. Nice

  130. Hello , i am newborn jesus christ 1year in one year i try to speak tongues but i can’t i am very hungry to recive this gift i did it all the rule i fasting also but yet not recived pl help and pray.

    • glory

first, decide what is comfortable for you.

you may be too nervous or self conscious…and this hinders you

some can receive the gift in a group setting, and others need privacy.

get alone with god, do not let anyone around, open your mouth and speak anything but your native language. this is an act of faith….

keep speaking sounds until you hear it change into a new language..

      this may take awhile…be patient

play some nice music and worship god also.

      • I had my baptism of the Holy Spirit with the help of an anointed missionary. She was a frail little old lady with no motives except to free me from addiction and negativity. She lead me into tounges and I met the Holy Spirit
        Spirit to spirit direct connect
Better then any high I ever had better then any love I ever had.
Did I instantly change my life and live for God?
No I shortly reverted back to my old self. Did it build my faith? Yes. Today I am free and free! I chase Jesus like I chased
Women Drugs Money Sucess and all the other meaningless earthly stuff.

  131. Hello Glory Bosco, These questions have been asked since the beginning. Paul answered them all clearly in 1st Corinthians 12-14. “To each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good”…” and He gives them to each one just as He determines.”
DO NOT get caught up in listening to puffed-up, prideful teachers who claim that one gift is more important than another. If the Holy Spirit wants you to have a gift He will give it to you for your ministry with others…not so you can have something simply for your own prideful benefit.

As one observes the church today, you will see certain groups emphasizing some gifts over others. Instead of seeking the full distribution of gifts within their group, believers with similar gifts form like-minded congregations. Some groups even assert that you’re not really a believer unless you can manifest the gifts they emphasize, while others, denying their use, expel members who manifest gifts.

In perhaps no area of God’s Grace will you find more evidence of man’s destructive meddling than in the area of spiritual gifts.

SEEK to know your Lord & Savior better each day and Never trust someone who states you Must have all the gifts or one as more important than the rest. SEEK to love and serve others as Christ commanded. Be unselfish in your seeking and you will find peace that surpasses understanding.

  132. i am kind of comfuse i dont know i cant use english to pray any more except i want to sumarise my prayers and i cant stop speaking in tongues but i know the spirit leads me becose when i am praying in tongues i feel the heat and sweat gutshing out of my body.

    • Tamuno

you should be able to pray in english or tongues. it is your choice.

usually, people pray in tongues because they do not know what to say in english, or their own language

if you feel heat, you must be praying about something very urgent.

      • I need the prayers against witchcraft and curses.

My dad belongs to an occult and he has been constantly trying to afflict I and my siblings.

Last year, I had a dream where a man (maybe an angel) asked me to leave my current Residence and take up a new one because where I am is polluted. Please what do I do? Are Christians supposed to run or do I go into spiritual warfare rather than move apartments?

In same dream, a witch also placed a curse on me saying I will never get married. Please I need advicebecause I am still unmarried even though I am gainfully employed and okay.

        • processor

It sounds like you need to leave the influence of your father somehow. cut off contact with him, since he is causing trouble, and since he is doing this, you do not owe him anything , nor are you bound to give in to him.

the polluted dream may indicate this.

you do not have to run, but you do have to be careful about who you let into your life and environment. it is sad that your father is this way, but he CHOSE to be this way. tell him he is wrong and in sin, and he needs to repent, then get away from him, and pray for him

you do not have to accept or submit to ANY curses placed on you. fight back with the name, blood, and authority of Jesus

I am sending you prayers against witchcraft and curses. and some for strength and blessings

best to print out and say each day

I will agree with you in prayer

  133. Hello,

  134. what a amazng thng openg th eyes of th blind teachn thm abt th bptizm of th holy spirit al its true nd i agree wit it may God use u both more deeply in the mghty name of our lord nd saviour JESUS CHRIST

  135. tnxs for your adivice, i need like this adivice for a few years , finally i get it, i want the gift that are useful for this generation, i want to serve god better than paul ‼ i wants grace like act of God , i blieved that that happend on my life. thanks god bless your life.

  136. nice post

  137. Accurate article.
Baptism of the Holy Spirit. It was glorious!. For people who desire the fire, I want to enourage you that The receiving of the Holy Spirit is not dependent on your past, sins and situations. It doesn’t happen only for righteous people who have been relatively “purer” than you because no one is ever pure from the beginning. Remember that God loves you and this is a gift that He gladly lavishes to His children including you. 😄

  138. Awesome!

  139. I was baptized in 1982 and received the gift of tongues, I backslid and left the Church and lost the ability to talk in tongues. I came back recently I now have the Holy Spirit I feel Him as a tingling sensation. I do have a job in the Body of Christ. But for some reason I never got the ability to talk in tongues back. I talked to a pastor and he told me once you get the ability of tongues you never loose it. Another thing I can not hear God or the Holy Spirit you know how you hear God as Spontaneous thoughts, and Visions sometimes? I have tried the 4 keys to hearing God and it does not work for me. Some people who have heart wounds need to hear Him or they can not heal those heart wounds. Heart wounds are the source that make people sick and make them return to sin. They are called Generational sins, and curse or anointments(if Ancestors were Christians), ungodly soul ties(Also Unhealthy soul ties, abuse from relatives, etc), negative expectations inner vows, and word Curses and visions for people that could not forgive. And don’t forget casting out demons you have to do all prayers first if you kick out the demons before you break up their house they will come back stronger. You have to hear the Holy Spirit to take care of these yourself. I have been to 3 different deliverers and they did not want to help me it is hard to find deliverer’s that do this most that say they re just pray for you . God helps me but cause I can not hear Him, it is hard for me to know what negative expectations and inner vows I had. I cried a begged Him to help me and He was just and kind to do that for me. The Holy Spirit leads me what verse to use as you have to have verses that are opposite of the 1 verse for Negative expectation, and 1 verse for inner vows. I feel Him when I’m reading a verse that is opposite than my Negative belief and inner vows. If you think that you are fat then your inner vow would be I will become a couch potato. Please can anyone tell me what I can do to get my tongues back? I think that has a lot to do with me not hearing Him.

    • Seek a closer, obedient walk with Jesus Christ…not an particular “gift”…”But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33

  140. Hello Marianne my name is Justin and I was just seeing if this page is still active and if I could write you concerning the baptism in the Holy Spirit. I have been seeking the infilling of the Holy Spirit for quiet awhile now and would greatly appreciate your time and help if you would not mind me writing you? I have been following the Lord now for 16 years and he has led and shown me all the scriptures which point to Him filling us with the promise of His Spirit. His glory returning to His temple(our bodies). That those who hunger and thirst for righteousness shall be filled! I too have been around many false manifestations many many years ago when i still attended church services and the Spirit in me would discern many carnal things happening which did not seem like the true manifestation of God’s spirit and the fruit that follows his presence. I have been a true seeker of His face/presence to worship Him in Spirit and truth and long to worship him with other brothers and sisters who love his appearing and presence in us. I have been seeking His baptism for many years and would greatly appreciate it if I could write and ask you questions! Many many thanks, Justin

  141. What does the number 8 (steps to receiving the Holy Spirit baptism) mean when it says

Open your mouth and speak in faith. Do not use your own language. Just utter sounds, to show submission and willingness, and allow the Holy Spirit to convert these sounds into a prayer language. You will know the difference between your own sounds, and a change to another language that you have no control over.

    • efua

it means what it says….this is a suggestion for those who wish to receive the baptism of the holy spirit….in which one speaks in a heavenly language. this event is described in the bible in Acts 2.

  142. Thank you that was most helpful.

  143. I really enjoyed your words regarding the baptism of the Holy Spirit. I do a question and it is, Can someone who has not received the baptism of the Holy Spirit flow in the gifts of the Spirit?

    • bermann

I would say yes…..while the baptism is a wonderful and powerful experience, a believer still has the holy spirit with him at salvation.

you can evangelize the planet with just these:

wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord (wonder)

      1 Cor 12:

4 There are different kinds of gifts. But they are all given to believers by the same Spirit.

5 There are different ways to serve. But they all come from the same Lord.

6 There are different ways the Spirit works. But the same God is working in all these ways and in all people.

7 The Holy Spirit is given to each of us in a special way. That is for the good of all.

8 To some people the Spirit gives a message of wisdom. To others the same Spirit gives a message of knowledge.

9 To others the same Spirit gives faith. To others that one Spirit gives gifts of healing.

10 To others he gives the power to do miracles. To others he gives the ability to prophesy. To others he gives the ability to tell the spirits apart. To others he gives the ability to speak in different kinds of languages they had not known before. And to still others he gives the ability to explain what was said in those languages.

11 All the gifts are produced by one and the same Spirit. He gives gifts to each person, just as he decides.

the only gifts that MAY not occur without the baptism is the prophecy and tongues, and interpretation of tongues.

Remember the gifts are for service….and God decides what kind of service he has for us……not us.

while I encourage you to seek the baptism, I also encourage you to step forth in any gift you already have.

  144. Please send me a copy of this to my email.
I would appreciate it very much.
    In Christ,
    Ed McA
