Call No One Rabbi

clip_image002

It is important not to be “important.”

This is what Jesus said about “looking up” to those who carry titles.

clip_image004

The problem with “important” people – it leads to prideful, selfish behavior, and the oppression of those that submit to them

Mat 23:1 ¶ Then spoke Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,

Mat 23:2   Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat:

Mat 23:3   All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, [that] observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.

Mat 23:4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay [them] on men’s shoulders; but they [themselves] will not move them with one of their fingers.

Mat 23:5   But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

Mat 23:6 And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,

Mat 23:7   And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi

The point Jesus was making was that no one should be carrying titles around to exalt themselves over others.

clip_image006

A title = entitlement. There is only one Lord, one Master, one Rabbi, one Father.

A title presumes entitlement.

We are all equal under the blood.

We have gifts and jobs to do, but not to make ourselves over others, so they have to give us special consideration.

Each believer is just as anointed as a messianic “rabbi” who works once a week on shabat, or a pastor, or a teacher, or an apostle, or an evangelist.

This is because we are all anointed by God, not just certain chosen ones.

We are all chosen.

People with titles want special honor, and rewards for who they are.

No one should be called rabbi, teacher, pastor, prophet, apostle, etc.

Mat 23:8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, [even] Christ; and all ye are brethren.

Mat 23:9 And call no [man] your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

Mat 23:10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, [even] Christ

Mat 23:11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.

Mat 23:12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

Titles are for secular positions – doctor, judge, officer, president, senator, etc. not for spiritual callings.

Our callings to serve God is not to make US important to others, but to make GOD important to others.

To take upon oneself a title is to communicate that

1. you are more important than others,

2. that you know more than they do,

3. that you stand up front, and others just sit there, and listen to you and do what you say.

4. And most of all, if you have a title, you are entitled to financial support.

Some refer to the passage about “doing no harm to one’s anointed,” implying that some are truly chosen by God to be exalted, and put in authority, over others.

To bring them down to equality with others, is to insult God. But this is not what that passage refers to or means.

The passage about “do no harm” actually refers to the nation of Israel, not one special person or prophet. The entire nation was considered anointed, not just its leaders.

1Ch 16:22 [Saying], Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.

Psa 105:11 Saying, Unto thee [people of Israel] will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance:

Psa 105:12 When they [people of Israel] were [but] a few men in number; yea, very few, and strangers in it.

Psa 105:13 When they [people of Israel] went from one nation to another, from [one] kingdom to another people;

Psa 105:14 He suffered no man to do them wrong: yea, he reproved kings for their sakes;

Psa 105:15 [Saying], Touch not mine anointed [people of Israel], and do my prophets no harm.

clip_image008

What about the five fold ministry and the gifts of the Spirit?

These are functions, not excuses to exalt one self, command a title, and collect a salary.

One of the most abused “gifts” in the church now is prophecy.

There are multitudes of self proclaimed prophets coming out of the woodwork.

They give out false words, or words from their minds and imaginations, or whatever they can pick up from others, or just generalized impressions, and presenting it as a “word from God.”

They learn, poorly or well, how to read people, and then use this “learned skill” to enhance their image in the church.

Stupid people fall for it, because they are so hungry and misguided that they have to have someone to look up to, that they look to man, not God for inspiration.

This is pretty disturbing.

If someone tells you that they are a prophet, then they aren’t one.

The callings and gifts are to serve God, not make others serve the servant.

One reason I think the gospel has been so slow going forth to all the nations, is that people have been convinced that only the “important ones,” the “anointed” ones, the ones chosen to be in special roles, with special titles, are to preach the gospel.

The majority of people are expected to just sit there, be quiet, and give money.

Jesus could have returned 2000 years ago, if everyone had been active in ministry, and not submitted all the “work” to the ones with titles.

Conclusion:

Call no one in the church

Pastor

Rabbi

Teacher

Father

Evangelist

Apostle

Prophet

Also…….

Do not call YOURSELF

Pastor

Rabbi

Teacher

Father

Evangelist

Apostle

Prophet

Another title is Reverend. Why are we putting mere men on a pedestal as if they are God?

The word “Reverend” means to

: to show devoted deferential honor to : regard as worthy of great honor

synonyms revere, reverence, venerate, worship, adore mean to honor and admire profoundly and respectfully.

revere stresses deference and tenderness of feeling

reverence presupposes an intrinsic merit and inviolability in the one honored and a similar depth of feeling in the one honoring

venerate implies a holding as holy or sacrosanct because of character, association, or age

worship implies homage usually expressed in words or ceremony

adore implies love and stresses the notion of an individual and personal attachment

A reverend is inviolable? This means they are untouchable, and considered above imperfections, and should not be criticized, assaulted, as imperfect or profane:

1. Secure from violation or profanation.

2. Impregnable to assault or trespass; invincible:

With all due respect, no one is that perfect except God. We are all profane, no matter how hard we try.

Our spirits are reborn, but our bodies aren’t.

Our bodies still struggle in the flesh, and are not entitled to be “revered.”

No one died for you except Jesus, so they do not deserve a title.

And you have not died for anyone either, so you do not deserve a title.

No one has paid the price for any title except Jesus.

We are to be servants, not masters.

Mat 23:10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, [even] Christ

Mat 23:11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.

  1. John the baptist was the greatest prophet ever but he himself did not even know he was a prophet… John 1-21….But Jesus said he was… Matthew 11-14…
The only thing I could figure on this one is men are so inclined to vanity god safeguarded John by this lack of knowledge..and maybe example for men to follow and not exalt themselves over others

    • very true….even Jesus himself did not walk around calling himself King Jesus, Prophet Jesus, Pastor Jesus, Rabbi Jesus, etc. Humility and our “fruits” are important, not titles.

  2. good post Marianne! I like this:” No one died for you except Jesus, so they do not deserve a title. ”

and you can refer to me as “MISS lyndsey”….lol 🙂

  3. This is great to hear!

I have been harping on this to the great offense of many for about three months now…it is SO great to see someone else who gets it…also don’t forget that with Jesus’ (Yeshua’s) teaching he is trying to tell you something along the lines of, ‘Ask! ask for enlightenment, I am not dead (because subconsciously MANY of us think of Him as dead), I am here to give you wisdom, give you teaching, to help you to understand my Torah, my words…if you would only ask ME, instead of exalting men.’

You know this was the first sin of Eve and it is shameful with all that we know that it is STILL so prevalent in our lives. What did Eve want before she took the fruit of good and evil…she wanted to replace G-d, because that is what the serpent promised her! He told her that if she ate the fruit she would ‘be like G-d’…you can still see this echoing around in mens minds, that desire to replace G-d in peoples lives…so take care, mark the words of Jesus (Yehshua) the Messiah, this may not be ‘popular’ with you and in that case you should re-examine the principles of humility and service before it is too late.

  4. Maybe beacuse “RAV” (rabbi) in hebrew means “a great one”…

Teachings of Jesus seem to reconcile with teachings of School of Hillel:

    http://www.shechem.org/torah/avot.html

    • I liked #15…15. Shammai said: Make your study of the Torah a fixed habit. Say little and do much, and receive all men with a cheerful face.

If I could just shut my mouth……ha!

      • I was also shocked with the relevancy of this one:

3:2. Rabbi Chanina, an assistant of the high priest said: Pray for the welfare of the government, since but for fear of it men would swallow each other alive.

        Sad.

        • 5. this is a little chauvinistic…. 😦

do not talk much with women. This was said about one’s own wife; how much more so about the wife of one’s neighbor. Therefore the sages have said: He who talks too much with women brings evil upon himself and neglects the study of the Torah and will in the end inherit Gehenna.

          • Torah always speaks of one person, man or woman, but “woman” here means egoistic aspect of human nature, because it was Eve that got tempted, so it is meant – not to go into conversation with our evil inclination/egoism that speaks to us through our heads and tries to tempt us;

  5. thank you for this, I too believe that…….

  6. Amen! Amen! Man’s righteousness is as ‘filthy rags.’ But RIGHTEOUSNESS which is from God is the FRUITS of a heart in full fellowship/obedience to God. It is rare but it exists in the ‘few’ who find the pearl of great price.

    LOVE the post!! Again, AMEN!

    cAROLYN

  7. Marianne,

The Bible backs up your post in 1 Peter 5:3, and 1 Peter 1:1.

    Thanks for posting that topic.

    • thanks leatherneck. May we all continue on in the grace and service of Christ.

1Pe 5:1 ¶ The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:

      1Pe 5:2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight [thereof], not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;

      1Pe 5:3
Neither as being lords over [God’s] heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.

  8. I agree with this post, but believe it all comes down to the heart. Titles often help with identity. Is a teacher who is asked what his occupation is, sinning by saying, I’m a teacher. Jesus referred to Pilate that he had his authority on earth because God gave it to him. Isn’t it the same for pastors, managers, ceos, etc? This world would be out of order if we had to strip titles from everyone. And we really can’t do it if we tried. It’s how God set it up (for life on earth that is). Romans 13 says to submit to your authority, but who is the authority if titles were removed? Is a child wrong for introducing his father to a friend saying, “and Bob, I’d like you to meet my father.”

However, again, I believe it is where your heart lies. Is Christ the name above all names to you? This no title thing can’t possibly be taken literally. Those are my thoughts.
    God bless!

    • hi mel

Titles become a problem when they are a source of pride and special entitlements, where they “lord” over others.

Just being identified by which function you perform is not a problem.

  9. Agreed… Function not position… Great read Marianne.

  10. Many others have died for us. I mean, just consider the thousands of American soldiers that have died in all the wars. They died for us.

    • hi Jeff

What you say is true. Soldiers have died for us, but they are therefore no longer around to claim a title.

My post is about people who have NOT died for us, but they want important titles anyhow.

  11. One title you left out, many are seeking today..that of “Bishop” Seems this is the in thing and the ceremonial robes, and the whole dedicaton thing is disgusting. I don’t mind calling someone by their title as a sign of repect to their position. We have a head in our White House who was elected to be our servant and to serve the best interest of the people. Whenever the leader fails to lead, and begins to dictate…then there is failure and dishonor. When we have a leadership postion we must lead humbly. For Christ is our head……..

  12. You conclusion saying that no one should use such title is very strange.

What G-Mt says Jesus telling them is ‘As for them, do not seek to be called Rabbi; do not give a title of ‘Father!’ (as Catholic priests are fond of) or ‘Reverend’ (as some Protestants pastors are fond of) to anyone; do not make yourselves addressed as ‘Leader!’.

If we don’t call them ‘pastor’ ‘teacher’ ‘priest’ (instead of Father) for Catholics ;-), how would you call them or refer them?

    • hi Ounbbl

The apostles were called by their first names. That seems like a simple solution.

The terms refer to functions or activities. They are not excuses for exalting someone to a position.

  13. Greetings,I want to briefly comment on(TITLES)

Greetings, I want to briefly comment on TITLES.Gog is a God of ORDER,and being a Evangelist Who is under a Pastor I believe the onlt time there could be a problem with a TITLE is,if that person becomes full of SELF,PRIDE and believes they are better than other brethen an possibly be decieved that they are equal to GOD.Theres ONE MASTER, ONE LORD, ONE SAVIOR JESUS!!! GLORY TO GOD!We are mere SERVANTS doing as God sees fit, to assist the Body Of Christ where we are NEEDED!AMEN! blessings to you!Truly, Evangelist Debra

  14. I am not sure this goes a little too far. I would like to speak to the Doctor and the Attorney, and know they do have the title of authority I can trust in. I think the title business is about some who use their authority in a contradicting way, or deceptive way, that they actually have no degree from a Seminary or Religious School. I should call my mother Mother, but not my father “Father” I understand the issues of false leadership, but that is again a matter in which the person ought to be informed about who they are addressing, and not just blindly submit to their direction, until you actually know where they are leading you and that is where you want to go.

    • hi Carmine

It is true, that in the secular world, people use titles. Because there, function is identified with position and honor, or the lack of this, and a salary to go along with it. The physical world is full of titles, and entitlements.

The title and position is to make the person stand above others, and others need to somewhat acknowledge him, and bow down to his authority.

One place I have seen this recently is in the courtroom. The judge is called “Your Honor.” Why should he be treated as exalted, when I am just as educated as he is? Because his function is exalted and mine isn’t. He is not a public servant. He is god in that room, and no one had better disagree with him.

The expert is looked up to as superior in some category of knowledge, and given special preference. But this is only for the elect few. They become mini-gods in their worlds.

Doctors and lawyers are exalted in position in our society. We do not address a plumber as “Plumber Smith,” or a social worker as “Social Worker Smith,” or a teacher as “Teacher Smith.” They are all qualified for their positions.

Although they fulfill these functions, they are not given titles. This is because their positions do not have enough society associated “honor” to them.

There is a difference between the function someone performs well, and having a position of honor.

In the church world, there should be no reason to carry a title, even if one is qualified. A pastor, etc is supposed to be a humble servant, not in an exalted position. He is to set an example, not carry honors, and a all that goes with “honor.”

If so, he has already had his reward on earth.

ALL the apostles were qualified, yet none carried a title. Paul was not known as “Evangelist Paul.” Peter was not known as “Pastor Peter.”

It is important to be qualified for what you do. It is not spiritually healthy to demand titles and honor for what you do for God. God is to get the glory, not us. When we assign honor to a person, we then start looking to that person for answers, instead of first going to God.

We should not exalt ourselves in the kingdom of God. We are instructed to seat ourselves in a lower position. It is God, not man, that calls us up to honor us.

Remember, Jesus said this, not me (Matthew 23). I am just trying to explain it.

  15. Excellent and timely post! This is exactly what has been on my heart for a year now. I’m finally “getting it.” I agree with your reason the gospel has not been spread. We have bought the lie.

    • hi JJ

Thanks for the kind words. I think most of us are insecure to some point, and feel we need to prove to the world that we are “qualified” to preach the gospel.

These are worldly standards. So we get a degree and a title, so they will not reject us.

But the apostles taught without titles or degrees. The Word was inside of them, and they were all more effective than anyone with a title is today.

This is because they were on fire for God.

The fire, the deep knowledge of the Word, a personal relationship with Jesus, and a life of holiness are the credentials that convinces the world, and brings forth fruit…..

The world has a double standard. While it seeks titles and recognition for itself, it is looking for humility in a servant of God.

  16. Are you refering to having yourself addressed as such or saying that you are (say… a prophet or seer)?
In the old testament no one had a problem with addressing a Seer or a Prophet as such…
I disagree in some ways… I call the pastors of my church “pastor” because they get up on that stage and teach… No one else in the crowd is standing there… And also because they are adults and I am not…
But… it is also a job (as in a career)… So isn’t it then saying “the pastor of my church”?
You make it sound like any one who takes a “title” is selfish… And it makes me wonder how I will sound if I am able to go in to ministery as I want to… Is it more than a job description?

    • hi Aiyana

To want to serve God is a noble desire. WE just need to stay humble.

I am pointing out that Jesus said this, not me.

I teach the Word of God here on the site, and I evangelize nonbelievers. That is my function. But I do not call myself Teacher Marianne, or Professor Marianne. I do not call myself Reverend or Evangelist Marianne. I can also pastor new believers, but I do not call myself pastor.

My function speaks for itself. It is obvious what I am doing. Others may call me a teacher, or pastor, or evangelist, just to explain what I am doing, but they do not address me by a title. I hope you see the difference.

I do not need a title to do what I do. My credentials are in heaven, and my fruit speaks for itself. Right now, it is 6 am where I am. I will be here until about 10-11 pm tonight. I am committed to what I do. The reward for this is seeing others learn about God and the bible.

I do not need a title or a salary to reward me. God is my reward. Money is always nice, but I cannot accept that. If I required that, I will miss helping many people. God provides for me.

It is ok to refer to someone who is pastoring as a pastor, because you are defining what he is doing.

In the same way, people in the old testament would call someone a prophet, because that is what he was doing. However, you do not see the prophet telling people to call him “Prophet Daniel,” or “Prophet Jeremiah,” or “Prophet Isaiah.” They did not carry titles, and expect people to address them that way.

The title is a worldly reward for a function.

This is the kingdom of God. The reward comes from God, not man or the “world.”

If someone needs a title or a salary to serve God, then they are only in it for business reasons.

A good question to test commitment: if you take away the title, and the salary, will they still serve God full time?

    • 1 Timothy 3:1 if a man desires the office of a bishop, he desires a good thing!! Bubba this is bitterness and confusion. This is taking a quote from the Lord and running it completely off the rails. I do agree if Jesus allows this office that you should be servant of all just like he said!! That’s exactly what many bishops, pastors are. Men who get on their face before God to intercede for there harvest field. Yes Jesus is the chief Shepard but he chose the foolishness of preaching to save the lost and educate the saints. Remember who shall he teach knowledge for line upon line and precept upon precept. The apostles taught to give honor and double honor to those whom it was due for they watch for your souls!! Little brother you continue to seek the face of Jesus and if he sees fit he just might place you in that wonderful office of a bishop!! This whole post is a mess of confusion and has a feel of anarchy against church government which is clearly defined throughout scripture. Are there proud and bad ministers out there. Of coarse!! God will deal with those men. Just be servant of all and you will be fine. You might be hated for his name sake but you will be just fine!! God bless and I hope God uses you to win a hundredfold!!!

  17. Very well put! I too have been telling others this same message over the years. Thanks for putting this out and God bless you!

  18. I do have a problem with believers over-honoring ministers, musicians, or saints in the Bible! I’ve actually been part of a church where the senior pastor committed adultery with a member and half the church left because he left! Most of those people weren’t coming for God or growth they came because he was clever, funny, and gave good sermons!
However, I don’t think it is beneficial that no one has some form of simple title. In my opinion this is not for glorifying the person but as a handle for simpler communication in certain contexts. Not that they should always be called “Prophet ___” but in certain situations it may just be simpler for the 5 offices of a church.
Should we not recognize where God has put people or gifted them?

  19. MINI-DESPATCH. April 30, 2000
From W. B. Howard …Editor of Despatch Magazine [Queensland, Australia]

    THE HEBREW ROOTS MOVEMENT.
Access links to the rest of HRM online

The apostasy which is amalgamating in our day called “The Hebrew Roots Movement” or “The Messianic Movement”, although coming in various forms and under varied doctrinal emphasis , could well be the biggest deception of all in these Endtimes. THE ICING ON THE CAKE of all counterfeit movements! As it unifies with the Protestant movement globally, with the Vatican moving along, the Satanic delusions will hit like never before in Church history!!!

Our ministry often receives E-mails from those who are adherents to HRM, the Hebrew Roots Movement, or sometimes from Messianic Jews. Whatever the communication which comes our way from these people, the content and doctrines are invariably in error, contradict God’s Word and present what can only be called, “anti-Christian Church” beliefs and confusion. We pray that those Christians who are approached by these Jewish workers will be loving enough to present Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord to them. Not one which has written out of the many has been truly saved, in the New Testament manner. None have understood at all what “Grace” in the New Covenant is about. All have been still in bondage to the O.T. Law – and are militant in demanding that Christian believers come under the dominance of the Jewish Rabbis! This is a sad state of affairs. The rest of this Mini-Despatch will share with the reader some of the discussions which have come our way through communication with the HRM and others:

THE HEBREW ROOTS MOVEMENT IN BRISBANE, QUEENSLAND.

Looking at the material which is distributed by the HRM in Queensland, one can see that these amazing errors are being propagated [ we have the actual indoctrination course here at our centre ]:
    a) That the New Testament “Grace of God” and the teaching of “The Church” as a Christian Body are evil apostasies which have been invented, and placed in the New Testament by Rome;
    b) That any Jewish male who finds himself with Christians in a church setting, should fulfil his duty to teach Gentiles in the Torah, and bring them under the Rabbis of Judaism. All those who do not read Hebrew are considered unable to find truth for themselves.
    c) There is heavy emphasis on Christianity being ROOTED in Judaism, not rooted in Christ Jesus.

    RICK JOYNER

has brought a prophecy forth which shows the HRM Rabbis becoming the heads of the Christian Church, globally. The new movement which will swept the Churches into unity under the Pope is seen as THE MESSIAH AGE. THE JESUS AGE is said to be over, and THE MESSIAH AGE is seen as beginning now.

The Rabbis of the HRM are supposed to be in major leadership, the Christian Gentiles are seen as being brought to submission by Elohim under the Rabbis!

    RICK JOYNER AND MESSIAH ‘99,

MJAA President Rabbi Robert Cohen laid a prophet vision for the Messianic Jewish Movement. Some highlights follow (NONE agree with Biblical Prophecy at this juncture of the Church Age!)
    * The 1970s, when Jerusalem returned to Jewish hands, was the end of the Gentile Church Age;
    * The Messianic people are “THE HEAD” meaning of the Body of Christ;
    * Messianic people will have a better ability to witness heal, discern and utilize spiritual gifts than others (Gentiles or Christian believers per se);
    * The Messianic people are a prophetic righteous remnant, “that are calling the Church back to their Jewish roots.”
    * Jews and Gentiles [ i.e. Christian believers per se ] will be looking to the Messianics to explain the Word of God;
    * Whole communities will come to Yeshua because of their witness.

    SOME COMMUNICATION:

    NOTE:
this E-mail from a Messianic Jew seeks to get me to answer that Jesus Christ’s religion was JEWISH!
Thus they will then argue that if we want to follow Christ Jesus, Christians must renounce Christianity
    and become Jewish, like Jesus.

    JEWISH E-MAIL:

“A question: What was Jesus’ religion? Thank-you, “

    ANSWER FROM DESPATCH:

    Dear …,
    Consider this Scripture, about religions:

“But if any man love God, the same is known of him. As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol [is] nothing in the world, and that [there is] none other God but one. For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many) But to us [there is but] one God, the Father, of whom [are] all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom [are] all things, and we by him.”
    ( 1 Cor. 8).

Jesus Christ was God incarnate in the Body. He came to lay down His life for the sin of the world. As such, NO religion held Him in any sense. He brought newness of Life, and over-turned the age of Law and bondage under Judaism. He attended the Synagogue, and fulfilled the Law for us all who could NOT keep the Law perfectly, and so were under the curse of the Law.

“10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed [is] every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. 11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, [it is] evident: for, The just shall live by faith. 12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. 13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed [is] every one that hangeth on a tree:” ( Galatians 3).

Jesus Christ was not a “religious” man at all! He was GOD!
He kept the Jewish way before men until the fullness of time, then brought in something far greater than the Law, as you will see in many Scriptures including: Matthew 5:27,28, 31, 32, 33, 34, 38, 39, 43, 44. Note that Jesus quotes the Old Testament Judaism, and then over-throws it with ” but, I say unto you.”

    Hope this helps. Wendy Howard.”

    NOTE:
this next Jewish E-mail seeks to present “Yeshua” as THE LAW, even as the written books of the Torah!
The Jews will go as far as saying that Jesus Christ was the Logos, or Word, therefore He is the TORAH, which is the Word. Thus, when they speak of “Yeshua” they can mean, not the Jesus Christ we are talking about, but a written religious LAW! This is IDOLATRY!

    JEWISH E-MAIL:
“Yeshua was the Torah made flesh! As it says in Yochanan/John 1…….”in the
beginning was the Logos/Torah and the Logos/Torah was made flesh and
tabernacled among us ( Israel ).”

    ANSWER FROM DESPATCH:
No, He was not the Torah made flesh, He was GOD incarnate. “The Word” means something quite different in John 1:1. It is the Greek word ‘Logos” Aram. Memra. It is used of God in the Targums, i.e. Aramaic translations of the O.T. The Greek word means a ‘thought” or “concept.” as a designation of Christ, therefore, the Logos is peculiarly felicitous because in Him are embodied all the treasures of the divine wisdom, the collective thought of God. He is the utterance or expression of the Person and thought of Deity. John 1:3-5; 14-18; 14:9-11; Colossians 2:9.

    NOTE:
this next Jewish E-mail contains other material which turns the Torah, the Jewish Law books, into THE CREATOR! Utter blasphemy, and idolatry. The Law again becomes GOD!

    JEWISH E-MAIL:
“Did you know the Torah contains the spiritual genes/the spiritual genetic material of the UNIVERSE?
Everything exists because THE TORAH SAYS SO!!!!!!!
Before Elohim created the universe HE WROTE THE TORAH, the Torah is the arquitectural (sic) blue print of the universe!!!………be very careful when you speak of the Torah.”

    ANSWER FROM DESPATCH:
GOD is to be worshipped and adored, not any written Law no matter how spiritual!
Everything exists because GOD upholds it be HIS power.
You make out the written Law is Divinity in itself! be careful when you speak of Almighty God! Christ Jesus upholds all things by HIS power. You seek to elevate the Law and wipe out the glory of Jesus Christ! :

“Hath in these last days spoken unto us by [his] Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of [his] glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; ” ( Hebrews 1).

    JEWISH E-MAIL:
“Rabbi Shaul was NOT saying the very Torah is a curse…….noooo……
he was saying that those who presume to earn their salvation thru obeying the Torah w/o (sic)
    Yeshua are doomed to fail.”

    ANSWER FROM DESPATCH:

“True enough, but the Bible says that the Law itself, although Holy and Perfect, to sinful men is a curse, because it DEMANDS obedience when men cannot keep it. That is why Jesus came to die on the Cross, to take that curse in our stead. The Law says do this or that or you will die!
Christ Jesus says , “I will die for you.”

“And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions [that were] under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.” ( Hebrews 9:15).

    NOTE:
that the HRM seeks to overthrow Christianity and insists that JUDAISM must take over.

    JEWISH E-MAIL:

“Christianity is actually “Messianism”……those who follow the Mashiach of
Israel. Yeshua did not come to start a new religion…..He came to raise Judaism to a higher spiritual level…..this is why the Ruach ha Kodesh /the Holy Spirit came upon the early believers in the UPPER ROOM.”

    ANSWER FROM DESPATCH:

“You are mistaken! Christianity is certainly about the Jewish Messiah, but that is only a part of it.
That promised Messiah came to be the Saviour of the whole world, any who would come to Him. He is the God-Man who died for the sin of the whole world. Jesus Christ is far beyond merely Judaism or Israel – although the Jew can certainly come to Him as Saviour as all men may, if they choose.

“16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.” ( John 3).

    NOTE:
a heavy-handed attempt to bring back Christians under the Torah of the Jews.

    JEWISH E-MAIL:

“Acceptance of Yeshua as Saviour and Lord is just the beginning. One grows in holiness by walking in the Spirit……doing the will of the Father. If one does the will of the Father, the Torah is kept as a result. This is the meaning of the Torah written in one’s lev ( heart in Hebrew )…..see Jer 31.”

    ANSWER FROM DESPATCH:

“Only Jesus Christ can keep the Law of God. So He came to live in our lives, and He gives to us both Positional and Progressive righteousness. His gift in us:
“29 That no flesh should glory in his presence. 30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: 31 That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.” ( 1 Cor. 1).
Let me know your name next time! May God richly bless you as He leads you into His Truth. Wendy Howard.”
    NOTE:
an expectancy of a Messianic Kingdom being set up on earth. BUT, this is NOT under the real Jesus Christ!
For Jesus Christ leads the saved person into the GRACE OF GOD, which is freely given in Christ Jesus His Son, not under the Torah and Judaism. Sadly these Jews are following a counterfeit “Yeshua.”
Read the book of Revelation and you will soon see who it is that is coming, setting up a fake Messianic kingdom, and who is presenting a counterfeit “Yeshua” !!!! Need I spell it out?

    JEWISH E-MAIL:

“1. The Eretz/the Land of Israel is the BODY of Israel, her container, that which makes her manifest to the world, like our own body.
    2. The Jews/the Torah culture are the SOUL of Israel, her collective personality, ego, criteria. The Jews will never go away.

    3. The Messianic Jewish Renewed Congregation of Rabbi Yeshua aka “the church”, the kehila/ekklesia is the SPIRIT of Israel. These believers will never go away.
When the three parts of Israel are joined the Messianic Kingdom will be ushered in.
This will happen when the Mashiach/Messiah comes…….Yeshua/Elohim! These three parts of Israel are intrinsic and inextricable in the eyes of Elohim. The “problem” is that the SOUL can find the BODY, and the SPIRIT can find the BODY, but , generally speaking, the SOUL cannot find the SPIRIT and the SPIRIT cannot find the SOUL.

(NOTE:Meaning Judaism and Christainity? Despatch comment.).

Another way of looking at this is: Judaism ( the “biblical” Judaism of Yeshua) has the chess board, but
“Christianity” (true “biblical” Christianity/Messianic Jewish Renewed ) has the chess pieces.”
(NOTE: we the Church of Christ do not exist in the chess game!)

    ANSWER FROM DESPATCH:

“Judaism is null and void now.
If you truly believed in Christ Jesus as Saviour and Lord you would know that! ALL are one in Christ Jesus:

“28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3 ).

    JEWISH E-MAIL.

“THE JEWS CAN’T PLAY CHESS LIKE THAT, AND NEITHER CAN THE “CHRISTIANS.”

    ANSWER FROM DESPATCH:

“I want to spend time comparing the Law and Judaism with true trust in the New Testament, and the New Life in Christ Jesus. I am doing this because of concern for you. Not to argue or put you down in any way. I pray you will respond to the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is a matter of bondage to Judaism and the Law, or freedom in Christ Jesus and Life everlasting:

I sure know which one I prefer! Thank God for His unspeakably wonderful gift in sending His Son to bring in the New Covenant in His Blood! Read God’s Word and weep:

“30 What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.
31 But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.
    Wherefore? Because [they sought it] not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;
33 As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. ” (Roman 9).

Write again, and discuss the various points I have put before you. Wendy Howard.”

    NOTE:
the HRM people are quick to brand anyone who disagrees with them as being anti-Semites/ Nazis. This causes some Christians to be emotionally black-mailed into agreeing with anything the Jews say!

    JEWISH E-MAIL:
“I apologise that I cannot give out my name. I have been threatened on the internet by anti-Semites/nazis. I am sorry you interpreted this as a lack of courtesy. I should have been more clear.
Quoting large amounts of Scripture will get [ you, Wendy ] nowhere. That is tantamount to making the Scripture into little mud balls and hurling them at one’s
opponent ( I am not your opponent !!!!!I want to believe we are on the same side.)”

    NOTE:
the urging to believe “Elohim” not to depend on the revealed Word of God in the New Testament, and the attempt to break the “Gentiles’” trust in the Christian Church. The “preconceived notions” are the doctrines of Christianity! The Church is seen as having its “diploma invalidated” for 2,000 years!

    JEWISH E-MAIL:
“Why are you recalcitrant to ask Elohim to verify anything I have written? I understand it is a bit unnerving to have one’s diploma invalidated. I don’t mean your diploma, I am speaking in a general sense to all “Christians” of the past 2,000 years.
If you would read my other emails without prejudice, pretense and preconceived notions you would be able to ascertain the balance that I am advocating for purposes of comprehending “Christianity” in a Hebrew-Jewish context. Christianity is BIBLICAL JUDAISM, the BIBLICAL JUDAISM OF YESHUA.
Now, you must re read my previous emails, ask for revelation as per Ephesians 1:17.
Then write me back. Wendy, can you read Hebrew?
Have you ever studied the Torah from a rabbinical point of view?”

    ANSWER FROM DESPATCH:
    “Dear …,
Have you ever been Redeemed by the Blood of the Lamb?
Have you ever been filled with the Holy Spirit of God? Have ever even received Him at all?
Have you ever known the Blessed Saviour as your own Lord and Companion?
Will you drop the whole notion that natural abilities and mere cognitive “knowledge” are sufficient to bring one to God?
Why would you imagine that knowing Hebrew is essential to understanding the Truth of God’s Word? When God’s Word tells us that it isn’t:

“Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into ALL TRUTH: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”
    ( John 16:13).

You have not had enough time to read what I sent you last E-mail!
READ the Word of God! I sent you a portion to help you, not to bombard you.
It shows a great deal of what position Israel and Judaism are at this juncture, in the Church Age. Also READ the comparisons I sent you on the old Judaism era and the New Life in Christ Jesus. I would like comments and am willing to spend time with you. Why? Because I care about you, and God loves you! I don’t view you as a Jew, I view you as a person whom Christ died for. A precious soul who is seeking.

Keep in touch and continue to communicate if you are open to what the New Testament has to say. You not invalidating some sort of Christian “diploma”, you are invalidating GOD’S WORD in the NEW TESTAMENT the Covenant in Christ’s Blood! Don’t do that, consider carefully and READ the Scriptures I sent you. God would not contradict Himself so I know immediately you do not understand and so are in error concerning the Lord God Almighty’s truth! I have read carefully all your E-mails, you are in serious error!

Ephesians 1:17 is clear. You must be saved, redeemed, have new Life in Christ Jesus to gain spiritual knowledge through the indwelling Holy Spirit and the opening of God’s Word. You need salvation in Christ Jesus. I will be praying for you, Mr Wier. I can tell you I would not be writing to you if I wasn’t right in there yearning for your soul to be safe in the Lord! I am on your side all right. Wendy Howard.”

    NOTE:
the HRM Jews like to ask this loaded question, “Who killed Jesus?”
If you answer, “the Jews and their leaders” beware! You will be branded “anti-Semitic.”

    JEWISH E-MAIL:
    “Wendy………
    A question: Who killed Jesus?”

    ANSWER FROM DESPATCH:

    “Dear ….,
Jesus Christ was delivered up by the Father to die for the sin of the whole world. It was pre-determined by the Father, and He GAVE Christ to die before the foundation of the world! The sin of all the world killed Jesus, but He rose again and defeated death for us all. He was sent to the Jewish people, the majority of them rejected Him, including the Jewish leaders. They were in part responsible, but no more than all sinners were! BUT, God has included in His Word the words that the Jewish people spoke long ago:

“Then answered all the people, and said, His blood [be] on us, and on our children.” ( Matthew 27:25).

This does not make Jews “Jesus killers” per se! In relation to this horrific event we all are Jesus killers! For we are sinners who made it necessary for Christ to die. “But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

“Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,” ( 1 Peter 1:20).
“Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: Him, being delivered by the DETERMINATE COUNSEL AND FOREKNOWLEDGE OF GOD, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.” ( Acts 2:23).
    Wendy Howard.”
    NOTE
” although some understanding of the shed Blood of Christ is present, the concept of the Grace of God to save and to sanctify fully is NOT understood by the HRM.”

    JEWISH E-MAIL:
    “Wendy…….Let me clarify:
Yeshua’s blood atonement is the only way of salvation for ALL.
Persons not accepting Yeshua’s blood atonement cannot enter heaven.
Believers are under grace, they are not under “law.”
Being under grace does not allow one to do whatever one wants.”

    ANSWER FROM DESPATCH:

Here you do not grasp Grace in it’s fullness. Being in Christ and in His liberty of the Spirit does not mean we can do what ever suits the natural man! Read again the comparisons I sent you on the NT liberty in Christ Jesus, and the OT law era.

Sanctification is by Grace through faith alone, just as initial salvation is. Sanctification is Christ’s Life in us!

“That no flesh should glory in his presence. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.” ( 1 Cor. 1:29-31).

    NOTE:
the clear understanding that Christ Jesus is ALL in ALL is not grasped. Instead of Christ alone, the HRM and Messianic Jewish Movement over-balance into the religion that they have never really left! They cannot grasp that ALL is fulfilled in the Lord Jesus Christ. Not only that, but they want the Christians to embrace the O.T. Jewish religious beliefs and even culture!

    JEWISH E -MAIL:
“Christianity cannot be fully appreciated and fully comprehended without
a thorough knowledge of Jewish Hebrew culture. ( Torah/Tanak ).
    Christianity is Jewish!”

    ANSWER FROM DESPATCH:

Through the Jewish people’s line God sent the Saviour into the world. He was the Lion of Judah. He was born into a Jewish family. Christ the Messiah came to live and die for all men and women. He is the Saviour of Jews, Gentiles, black, white, yellow and any ethnic group. All who receive Him are rooted in Christ Jesus. But Christianity is not about Imagestaining Judaism, it is about proclaiming the Saviour has come! The Jews must accept the Saviour and all that the New Testament has led us all into. They don’t join an organisation, they are born again into a Divine Person and His Body is the Ekkesia, the called out ones. We are all that Body of Christ’s when we are truly saved.
You see only Christianity opposed to Judaism. I don’t see either, I see only Christ and me part of HIM!

“As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, [so] walk ye in him: ROOTED and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.”
    ( Colossians 2:6,7)
    Wendy Howard.”

    JEWISH E-MAIL:

    “ Ms………
The Roman Catholic Church has the Magisterium. They supposedly hold the
keys to understanding of the Scripture. This is a false concept.”
    ANSWER FROM DESPATCH:
    Very true!
    NOTE:
the Jews want to introduce all the Christian churches to their own Hebrew Bibles and interpretations!
    HRM:
“The Protestant-Evangelical Church says the “Bible interprets the Bible”,
aka the “inductive study method.” This is a false concept.”

    ANSWER FROM DESPATCH:
“No, not when one is a redeemed person. The Bible is opened only to the persons who have the Holy Spirit of the God within. Then the Bible can be read as a revelation from the Lord Himself. It is clear and does not need any other books to interpret it.”

    JEWISH E-MAIL:
“The correct way to understand the Scripture is to ask the Author of
Scripture to interpret it. This is the only true concept.”

    ANSWER:
“You cannot do that unless you are a saved person! I would NEVER read the Bible with dependence on my own intellect or understanding. It is always to be read in dependence on the Lord. I NEVER read the Bible without the enlightenment of the Lord God.”

    ANSWER:
Quite right! And that truth is found only in God’s Word. That is why I cannot accept your errors, they are against God’s Bible!”

    JEWISH E-MAIL:
“Regarding any given matter there is only Elohim’s truth, not my truth or
    your truth.”

    ANSWER FROM DESPATCH:

“That is true enough! However if the “truth” someone presents is in direct contradiction to the Bible itself, then that person does not speak by God’s truth! Your “truth” is often ( not always however ) in contradiction to God’s Bible! The Bible tells us that the Law and Judaism are NOT for the Church Age. The whole book of Galatians is about this. You must come into conformity and under obedience to the Bible, God’s Holy Word. This is Elohim’s truth, your “truth” is often, sadly, ERROR.

    Wendy Howard.”

I think what is here is a fight between

      1. antisemitic gentiles who will not admit that the Torah is the Word of God, and have reduced Torah to just “law.” The understand of “jewish roots” would really help in interpretation. jewish law is not evil. it is the schoolmaster for the new covenant. How can one understand the fulfillment of prophecy, unless one understands what the prophecy was to begin with, and what it meant? These christians are so afraid of “the law” that they avoid it completely, thus ending up in error, and losing blessings. Part of the Torah was to celebrate Passover. Is that so bad? these christians are the ones who would call Jews “christ killers” and think themselves righteous. They are also the ones I bet who would hold false revivals, throw out the law, and have prosperity messages, and false prophets. There is nothing in the Torah that contradicts the bible. These are strange christians.

      and

      2. jewish believers who want to maintain the jewish traditions that Jesus followed. But I do not think the church needs to be taken over by jewish rabbis, or that everyone needs to learn hebrew. Maybe the messianics lay it on a little too thick here, but in general, I agree with them. Christianity should be fulfilled Judaism. Rituals are no longer necessary, but the moral and civil laws should still be respected.

Many modern christians are under the impression that since they are under grace that they can ignore the law….a good example would be the multiple marriages and divorces, and remarriages after divorce multiple times. Modern christians tend to have no concept of the history, culture or actual faith of their own Messiah. The church still has pagan holidays, and they don’t know why. and it won’t even celebrate feasts that the Lord instructed us to.

  20. Marianne said:Modern christians tend to have no concept of the history, culture or actual faith of their own Messiah. The church still has pagan holidays, and they don’t know why. and it won’t even celebrate feasts that the Lord instructed us to.

Well said! 🙂 Couldn’t have said it better….may need to copy and paste this tho for future posts…LOL

  21. Marianne;
How many times have you been to Israel?

    Lyndsey;
How many times have you been to Israel?

The both of you; How much experience do you have with the Messianic movement?

    Marianne;
You knew nothing about the Jesus movement until I docummented on it on this blog.

Have you encountered Rabbi Kravitz and Rabbi Singer of Jews for Judaism ever?

On this blog you think nothing of racking Christians across the coals.
    Let’s be balanced here.

How many people are you reaching for Jesus with the Gospel?

That really is the issue. Salvation and eternal life.

It’s not about Holidays, rituals and symbols. It’s all about Jesus and his word.

You guys are so new to this. I’ve been there done that for the last 20 years if not 38 years.

    • Kitti

I have been to Israel 3 times, and have been closely associated with Jews most of my life, except it has been closer the past 8 years.

I used to belong to a Messianic congregation before that for a couple of years, and before that, I was in a traditional church.

The Jews for Jesus is a sincere movement. Most likely it is not perfect, but they are trying, and their hearts are in the right place. I have met some of them, and they are evangelistic, sometimes more than people are accustomed to. But they only want to see people accept Jesus as Messiah.

I was aware of the Jesus movement on campuses but did not participate in it. It seemed to be more prevalent on the west coast. However, this does not mean I was not saved, or not going to church at that time.

I have also met local people who were part of the Jesus movement who are older now. Very sweet people but they tolerated a Jezebel to control their meetings, so I left. They had no idea about this sort of thing, and submitted to her. They also liked to talk about an occasional “witness” experience that may have occurred a few times in their lives, but they were not actively involved in evangelism. They had become dry.

They seemed to live in the past, and were not doing anything currently, except going to their jobs and coming home.

When I mentioned my website and what I was trying to do – actively teaching the Word on the internet and ministering to those who came to the site – NO ONE was interested in that or participating. I have almost 300 people on my prayer list, and no one to help me pray for them. That was too much work for them. They just wanted to eat, say a prayer and sing some songs.

I have to rake Christian across the coals sometimes. They do things wrong that need to be corrected, and their approach to non-believers can be abrasive and unfruitful. How can I remain silent when their behavior or errors push away non-believers who are seeking more? The attacks against Jewish believers by Christians is an act of snobbery, and prejudice.

It really has to stop. We are to treat each other with love, not reject them because they find meaning and enrichment in obeying God’s command to celebrate his feasts.

They are Feasts of the Lord, not Feasts of the Jews. Jesus celebrated them, and will be celebrating them when he returns. The first one scheduled is the Feast of Tabernacles.

There are many Christians now who demonize traditional Jews and claim they are behind every conspiracy to take over the world. Every negative world event has a Jew behind it, according to them. When they view the news, they loathe Israel in its self defense measures, and condemn it for anything it does, while remaining silent on the savage behavior of its enemies.

Will I say something about this? Answer: yes.

This demonization is why there are hardly any Jewish converts to Christianity. Christians have been demonizing Jews for 2000 years. This is BAD witness for Christ, and going to church will not compensate for the damage done. WE are responsible for every person we push away from Christ and his salvation.

Modern Christianity also presents itself on TV with prosperity messages, and corrupt teachings to get money from people, whose heads are filled with silly ideas. I object to this. Christians also do not honor marriage as sacred as they used to. Divorce is an epidemic among Christians now, and is a bad witness. Religious spirits are ripe in the church, and need to be cast out.

The purpose of this site is to present the Word of God as best I can. I allow disagreement, because I want people to discuss their views, and in that, find the truth hopefully. I take an academic approach to learning.

I do not threaten other Christians with hell, like others can do, when their interpretations of scripture are different than mine. I let each person examine their own views in light of scripture, and how others may also contribute, or maybe take away, to the meaning.

There are some posts about holidays, but look at the menu on the right hand side. Almost every post concludes with somethings about Jesus, repentance, or salvation.

Look at this page. It concludes with a message about Jesus also.

I have been in the Word deeply for 40 years. I now have the opportunity to share my thoughts on the internet. People come here from everywhere, since it is online. My hope is to reach many people.

How many people am I reaching? The only stats I have are on this site. I have had 1,471,873 unique visitors to the site from 189 countries. I have had to answer over 23,000 emails. I made personal phone calls to those who request it, which is why I have an international phone plan, as well as unlimited long distance.

I have had atheists, agnostics, Luciferans, New Age, Hindus, warlocks, Muslims, Christians of various denominations, looking for more, and people who are just looking. I have had a muslim saved on this site, and just recently, a male witch asked how he could receive Jesus into his life.

How successful am I? I don’t know. Since God does the saving, not me, he is the one with the real stats, and those stats are in heaven.

At the least, I try to sow the seed, so that God can have his harvest.

      • “At the least, I try to sow the seed, so that God can have his harvest.”

        🙂 AMEN!

      • Your understanding about spiritual titles helps me understand it heaps better. You have tge same understanding as the “ministry of church of God International” hosted by bro Eli Soriano. Not many gets or accepts biblical truth.

    • How many people are you reaching Kitti for Jesus with the gospel? All I see thus far are “conspiracy theories” AGAINST the Jews no less!

It’s not about Holidays, rituals and symbols. It’s all about Jesus and his word. *so whatcha gonna do Kitti when it comes time to go to Jerusalem for the FEASTS! This happens during the millinneum in case you didn’t know (I just found this out when LEARNING the Jewish Holidays). G-D will REQUIRE THIS of all of US from ALL NATIONS. To Paraphrase Mark Biltz who said it best regarding the Wedding Feast…”we are having a JEWISH wedding feast and we might want to be prepared so as to know what to expect and what is expected”

So, it IS about the Jewish Holiday and the Jewish Culture! To say it is all about Jesus and His word and IGNORE the Jewish Holidays which ARE the FEASTS of the LORD and G-d’s commandment to follow them is a contradiction. So even tho I am “new to this”, at least I can SEE the point of all of it! Can you?

  22. Do you know anyone who has gone through the Rabbinical Court to get a divorce in Israel? It’s not like it is here.

    Lyndsey;
Do you know what a “Get” is?

    Marianne;
Maybe you can explain it to her.

    • Well I guess I be “gotten” one of these when I was divorced! Kitti; do you know what sarcasm is?

      Marianne;
Maybe you can explain it to her.

    • kitti

I am not sure why a jewish divorce is relevant, but

yes I know someone who has gone through a divorce in Israel.

Under Jewish law, the husband must willingly agree to issue the get, the bill of divorce, without which the wife cannot remarry.

Jewish marriages, like Christian marriages, can become unhappy relationships.

The difficulty in getting a divorce is scriptural. Even Jesus warns against divorce and remarriage, calling it adultery.

People should not frivolously make vows before God, because they are expected to keep them, and not break them. But people do, showing no respect for God in making vows.

They lack the fear of God required to make an vow of commitment, and then break the vow, assuming God is nice and will look the other way.

Divorce rates among Jews is the highest of any religion now.

Born again Christians divorce rate is 27% – higher than other christian groups.

Atheists and Agnostics have the lowest divorce rate of all: 21 percent

So now, Atheists and Agnostics make better life time decisions than those that are supposed to know and obey the bible.

What kind of witness is this?

This website is about the re-established Jewish Sanhedrin. The Sanhedrin is the name given in the mishna to the council of seventy-one Jewish sages who constituted the supreme court and legislative body in Judea during the Roman period. It continued to function for more than four hundred years after the destruction of the Temple and there have been several orthodox attempts to re-establish it since that time. The current attempt to re-establish the Sanhedrin is generally referred to as the “nascent Sanhedrin”, or the “developing Sanhedrin”.

Etymologically, Sanhedrin is a late Hebrew representation of the Greek word synedrion συνέδριον meaning “sitting together” as a legislative assembly or Senate. It is interesting to note that several aspects of the U.S. Senate, including the semi-circle seating of the senators, were derived from the Jewish Sanhedrin by the Founding Fathers of the U.S. Constitution. The Jewish Sanhedrin is a governmental body that resembles aspects of both the U.S. Senate and the Supreme Court.

The make-up of the council includes a President – Nasi, Chancellor – Av beis din, and sixty-nine general members who all sit in the form of a semi-circle when in session. Decisions are made by majority vote. The constitution of seventy-one is to preclude the possibility of a tie. Members of the Sanhedrin are not elected, nor is their position permanent. Any scholar, at any time, may gain a place on the legislature by proving a greater level of scholarship in Jewish Law than a current member of the legislature.

Sanhedrin Moves to Establish Council For Noahides

    by Ezra HaLevi
Follow Israel news on and .

B’nai Noach, literally “Children of Noah,” known as Noahides, are non-Jews who take upon themselves the Torah’s obligations for non-Jews – consisting of seven laws passed on from Noah following the flood, as documented in Genesis (see below).

Until now, Noahide communities and organization had been scattered around the globe, with a particular concentration centered around the southern United States. The communities themselves are a relatively recent phenomenon bolstered by the fact that the Internet has allowed individuals sharing Noahide beliefs to get in touch with one another.

The court of 71 rabbis, known as the Sanhedrin, which was reestablished last October in Tiberius following the reinstitution of rabbinic semikha, decided, after numerous requests from the Noahide community, to assist the movement in forming a leadership council.

Rabbi Michael Bar-Ron, with the Sanhedrin’s blessing, travelled to the United States to meet with representatives of the Noahide movement and select members for the High Council. Bar-Ron, an ordained student, talmid samukh, who currently sits on the Sanhedrin, is also one of the Sanhedrin’s spokesmen.

Bar-Ron organized a small conference in California where six of the council’s future members were selected and also addressed the annual convention of the Vendyl Jones Research Institute – one of the Noahide organizations represented on the council. At the VJRI convention, Bar-Ron met five more of the Noahide leaders who will be joining the council.

The purpose of the council, which was the brainchild of Rabbi Avraham Toledano, is to assist the B’nei Noach in their struggle to observe the word of G-d. “The goal is to unify, serve and organize all kosher B’nei Noach communities of the world under a single body that can operate under the direct authority and supervision of the Sanhedrin,” the decision to establish the body reads. “To form a vessel through which the Torah, from Zion (via the Sanhedrin) can effectively serve non-Jewish communities around the world.”

A third goal of the creation of the High Council and the Sanhedrin’s efforts in regard to the Noahide community, is to “transform the Noahide movement from a religious phenomenon – a curiosity many have not heard of – into a powerful international movement that can successfully compete with, and with G-d’s help bring about the fall of, any religious movement but the pure authentic faith that was given to humanity through Noach, the father of us all,” said emissary Bar-Ron.

To that end, one of the primary functions of the council will be the creation and development of effective outreach materials for the world. Although Judaism does not require or encourage non-Jews to become Jewish, the observance of the Seven Laws of Noah is incumbent upon humanity and widespread observance is to be worked toward, even through active proselytization, something that is anathema to Judaism.

The council is also seeking to identify and contact communities around the world who observe the Seven Laws of Noah in order to invite them to learn more about the movement. B’nei Noach in India and Brazil are already in touch with Noahide leaders.

Asked why the Sanhedrin would reach out to B’nei Noach before concentrating on outreach within the Jewish community, Rabbi Bar-Ron answered: “There was no conscious choice to ignore the issue of outreach toward other Jews, but there is a Torah principle that a mitzva, positive precept, that comes to your hand should be fulfilled first and should not be put off. It happens to be that the group that showed the most outward display of support and genuine concern for the success of the Sanhedrin – contacting us from the very outset – were the B’nei Noach. One of the great responsibilities of the Jewish people is to spread the laws of Noach.”

Bar-Ron said he had mixed feelings as he departed for the meetings with the B’nei Noach leaders, as he left the day the forced expulsion of Jews from Gaza began. “I was in such a horrible heart-wrenching pain about leaving – I almost felt like a traitor to our people. But I realized then that although the government was detaching itself from the Land of Israel – a partial annulment of our covenant with G-d, similar to the sin of the ten spies – there is another aspect of the covenant that has not been pursued. That aspect is our obligation to be a nation of priests unto the nations. This is the core of the covenant with Abraham and it is something the Jewish people as a nation has not involved itself in since Second Temple times. So as the government disengaged from the covenant, I was participating in the reengagement with an aspect of the covenant that has been dormant.”

Bar-Ron was very impressed with the B’nei Noach leaders he met. “Each of them had a different unique talent. One was an extremely talented media coordinator, two were great scholars of Noahide law, one was secretary of a large successful Noahide community and research institute and one was a law enforcement officer for a number of years. Each had the wisdom and experience that will help them lead the movement.

All of the prospective members of the High Council are obligated to appear in Jerusalem this coming January, at which time they will be ordained by the Sanhedrin as members of the High Council. “One of the things I thought would be more difficult was implementing the fact that the Sanhedrin’s steering committee unanimously voted that the High Council members must appear personally before the Sanhedrin to be ordained as such,” Bar-Ron said. “But the level of commitment of these people is so high that it is not posing a problem at all.

Each member was screened very carefully and accepted not only on the basis of their high reputation, wisdom and experience – there were many dedicated and talented B’nei Noach who we would have loved to have accepted into the council – but for their role as representatives of entire B’nei Noach communities or as experts in a particularly field.

The acting head of the Sanhedrin, Rabbi Yoel Schwartz, has set up a Beit Din for B’nei Noach to serve the needs of B’nei Noach worldwide. At this point, the council will not serve as a adjudicating body.

“It is our sincere hope that in years to come, the knowledge of the halakha, Torah law, of the Seven Laws of Noach will grow to such a degree that there will be true Noahide judges,” Bar-Ron said. “One of the goals is to delineate clearly the seven laws and their applications according to the Mishneh Torah of the Rambam.”

“Never before in recorded history have B’nei Noach come together to be ordained by the Sanhedrin for the purpose of spreading Noahide observance of laws,” Bar-Ron said. “This is the first critical step of bringing about the ultimate flowering of the brotherhood of mankind envisioned by Noach, the father of mankind.”

The Seven Laws of Noah are:

Shefichat damim – Do not murder.
Gezel – Do not steal or kidnap.
Avodah zarah – Do not worship false gods/idols.
Gilui arayot – Do not be sexually immoral (engage in incest, sodomy, bestiality, castration and adultery)
Birkat Hashem – Do not utter G-d’s name in vain, curse G-d or pursue the occult.
Dinim – Set up righteous and honest courts and apply fair justice in judging offenders and uphold the principles of the last five.
Ever Min HaChai – Do not eat a part of a live animal.

    First World Noahide Conference Begins

    by Hillel Fendel
Follow Israel news on and .

The 1st World Conference of the Noahide Nations is underway in Florida.

The conference is taking place at the Ft. Lauderdale Airport Hilton Hotel, and is designed to bring Jews and Noahides together. The organizers stated that for this purpose, the location was specifically chosen for its proximity to a large Jewish populace.

Can’t see radio player? Click to Listen Now or Download

The conference speakers include IsraelNationalRadio (INR) director Yishai Fleisher, speaking on “INR Support for the Future of the Noahide Movement,” and show host Rabbis Chaim Richman, and other rabbinic scholars.

The four-day event features workshops and symposiums led by Jewish and Noahide scholars in the fields of Torah study, science, history and government.

Conference organizer Ray Pettersen, of the Dallas-based Noahide Nations, said, “Our world is plagued with violence and diminishing human dignity. Yet, we are also blessed with an unprecedented outpouring of Torah knowledge that is both timeless and even technological. That knowledge, coupled with a heightened sense of the need for community is the underlying theme of this summer’s conference.”

On display at the conference is what the conference organizers call the “Golden Crown of the High Priest of the Third Temple.” The crown is actually a headplate known as the Tzitz, fashioned out of pure gold by the Temple Institute in the Old City of Jerusalem and completed last December. The Temple Institute stated at the time that the Tzitz “is ready to be worn by the High Priest in the rebuilt Holy Temple in Jerusalem.” The words “Holy for G-d” are engraved on the headplate, in accordance with Exodus 28:36.

Last month, Rabbi Yaakov Cohen, Sheikh Abdaal Salaam and Reverend Michael Kroop addressed a Hebrew University audience on the topic of how the Seven Noahide Laws can help bring world peace. Rabbi Cohen, of The Institute of Noahide Code, who organized the conference, said the goal was to “use the Noahide laws as a starting point for dialogue between representatives of different traditions.”
The seven Noahide laws, by which Gentiles are bound according to Torah law and which are being accepted by increasing numbers of non-Jews, are the following:
    1. Belief in one G-d; no idol worship
    2. Respecting G-d: Do not blaspheme His Name
    3. Respect for human life: Do not murder
    4. Respect for family: Do not commit immoral sexual acts
    5. Respect for others’ rights: Do not steal
    6. Creation of a judicial system
    7. Respect All Creatures: Do not eat live animals or be cruel to them

At the Florida conference, Pettersen presented Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight with the Zedekah Award for his charitable efforts and public support for the State of Israel, and Vendyl Jones received the Noah Award for his lifetime of work in spreading Torah and the Seven Laws of Noach. Other speakers include Rabbis Y. Hollander, Joel Bakst, and Michael Katz, as well as Dr. Andrew Goldfinger, Judge Rabbi Sander Goldberg, Jim Long, and more.

  28. I like to know who is putting out videos and writing articles. I recognize Rabbi Chaim Richman. He’s from the Temple Mount Institute. Here’s the Rabbi in the Jews for Judaism video:

Rabbi Michael Skobac was educated at Northwestern University and Yeshiva University. He has been involved in informal Jewish education and outreach work since 1975. Rabbi Skobac was the founding director of Kiruv, the campus outreach arm of the Rabbinical Council of America, and has worked as a campus professional with Hillel groups in Philadelphia, New York and Toronto. He has specialized in counter-missionary work since 1983, establishing the New York branch of Jews for Judaism and serving as a consultant to the New York Jewish Community Relations Council Task Force on Missionaries and Cults. Rabbi Skobac is currently the Senior Counselor and Director of Education for the Canadian branch of Jews for Judaism.

Rabbi Skobac has lectured extensively on missionaries and cults as well as on issues of Jewish continuity and spirituality across the United States, Canada, Israel, the Former Soviet Union, England, India, Australia and South Africa. He has acted as a consultant to communities worldwide in developing responses to missionary and cult activity and has extensive experience working with affected families and counseling people who have embraced Christianity. He has developed and taught numerous courses on Jewish-Christian polemics and has produced a highly acclaimed counter-missionary tape series. Rabbi Skobac has written extensively for Jewish publications and has appeared internationally on radio and television programs to discuss his work.

WHAT THE ANTI-MISSIONARIES DIDN’T TELL YOU Part 1

PART ONE: RABBI MICHAEL SKOBAC AND “THE FIRES OF THE LORD”

    by Michael L. Brown, Ph.D.

On the Jews for Judaism website,1 Rabbi Michael Skobac responded to this question that was submitted to him:

“What does Leviticus 5:11-13 actually say in Hebrew, as I had a missionary present to me the following Christian translation of the verse and it appears that the flour offering of atonement was laid on top of the other (animal) sacrificial offerings?”

Leviticus 5:11-12 is then cited in the New Revised Standard Version: “But if you cannot afford two turtledoves or two pigeons, you shall bring as your offering for the sin that you have committed one-tenth of an ephah of choice flour for a sin offering; you shall not put oil on it or lay frankincense on it, for it is a sin offering. You shall bring it to the priest, and the priest shall scoop up a handful of it as its memorial portion, and turn this into smoke on the altar, with the offerings by fire to the Lord; it is a sin offering.”

    In response, Rabbi Skobac wrote:

I’ve checked a number of Christian translations of the Hebrew scriptures, and they all make a similar error in translating verse 12. The phrase in question is “ee’shay Hashem”, which most render as ‘the offerings of fire to the L-rd’. This, in fact, is an editorial expansion of the actual phrase. The word “ee’shay” is the construct form of the word “aish” (which means fire), therefore, the correct translation is “fire(s) of Hashem (the L-rd)”. The meaning is that the flour is placed on the top of the altar and will be consumed by the fire that is lit on the top of the altar. The phrase does not indicate that the flour is placed on animal sacrifices that were already burning on the altar. First of all, there weren’t always animals burning on top of the altar. Even if there were, the altar top was large enough to place the flour elsewhere – not necessarily on top of the animals. Furthermore, most Christian missionaries also make an unwarranted assumption here. Even if they are correct in assuming that the flour is put on top of animals that have already been offered on the altar, there is no reason to assume, as they do, that it is the remnant blood from those sacrifices that gives efficacy to the flour. This is not indicated by the text, which simply says that the flour is the sin offering.

Is this response accurate? Actually, all of the major points made by Rabbi Skobac are incorrect.

#1) Are Christian translations guilty of making an error of translation in Lev 5:12? Absolutely not. In fact, the very translation that Rabbi Skobac rejects, speaking of “offerings of fire to the LORD” (as opposed to “fires of the LORD,” which Rabbi Skobac proposes) is reflected in the oldest Jewish translations of Leviticus. Both Targum Onkelos and Targum Pseudo-Jonathan rendered the Hebrew word ’ishshey with qorbanaya’ “the offerings.” And remember: The Targums are rabbinic translations, not Christian translations. Note also that the Septuagint, which is the oldest recorded, Jewish translation of the Torah into Greek, rendered the Hebrew with “whole burnt offerings.” This means that the ancient, major Jewish translations do not follow Rabbi Skobac’s understanding. Among modern Jewish translations, the New Jewish Version (also called The Tanakh), renders with “the LORD’s offerings by fire,” while D. Mandel’s translation of the Tanakh, included in the Judaica Classics Library, renders with “the offerings made by fire to the Lord.” To reiterate: The Christian translations are in harmony with the ancient Jewish translations, along with some modern Jewish translations, in understanding the Hebrew word ’ishshey to refer to “offerings made by fire” and not “fires.” So, in every context where the form ’ishshey is found in the Torah (16 times total), it always means “offerings made by fire.” Check out these references and see for yourself (I placed Lev 5:12 at the end so you would check that one last): Lev 2:3, 10; 4:35; 6:10-11; 7:30, 35; 10:12-13, 15; 21:6, 21; 24:9; Num 28:2; Deut 18:1; Lev 5:12.2 In keeping with this understanding, the ArtScroll Siddur (p. 111), translates ’ishshey with “fire-offerings” and not “fires” (the context there is the last benediction of the Shemoneh Esreh prayers). Why? Because that is what the Hebrew word means.

#2) Is the Hebrew word ’ishshey (transliterated as ee’shay by Rabbi Skobac) to be understood as the construct plural of the word ’esh, “fire”? Again, the answer is absolutely not. Rather, ’ishshey is to be derived from the noun ’ishsheh, which occurs frequently in the Torah and always means “offering made by fire.” This is recognized by virtually every major Hebrew lexicon, including both standard scholarly dictionaries and comprehensive, modern Israeli dictionaries. In fact, not only do all these Hebrew dictionaries derive the construct plural form ’ishshey from the noun ’ishsheh, but none of these dictionaries even recognize a plural form for the noun ’esh, “fire” (transliterated as aish by Rabbi Skobac) in the Tanakh. In other words, the plural of ’esh, fire, is not found a single time in the Hebrew Bible!3

#3) Did the flour have atoning power in and of itself? To quote Rabbi Skobac again, “Even if [Christian missionaries] are correct in assuming that the flour is put on top of animals that have already been offered on the altar, there is no reason to assume, as they do, that it is the remnant blood from those sacrifices that gives efficacy to the flour. This is not indicated by the text, which simply says that the flour is the sin offering.” Of course, it is true that the flour offering is identified as a sin offering in Lev 5:13, but it is equally true that the flour, in and of itself, is never associated with atoning power, which is why it had to be joined with the blood offerings on the altar, the altar that Moses Maimonides rightly called “the altar of atonement” (mizbah kapparah). In fact, Rabbi Skobac’s whole point was that the Hebrew word ’ishshey meant “fires” rather than “offerings made by fire,” and we have seen that he was completely wrong on this point. Thus, the Hebrew text is quite clear: The flour was put on the blood offerings that were on the altar, and there is not the slightest indication in the Torah that flour offerings, in and of themselves, had any atoning power or could be offered up by themselves in order to procure atonement. As I wrote in Answering Jewish Objections to Jesus, vol. 2, 113:

According to verse 12, the priest will “take a handful of it [i.e., the flour] as a memorial portion, and burn it on the altar on top of the offerings made to the Lord by fire.” Then (verse 13) “the priest will make atonement for him.” In other words, the priest, in his capacity as mediator for the people, and having mingled the flour with the blood sacrifices that were already upon the altar, would make atonement for his fellow Israelite.

Nowhere is it written that “the flour will make atonement” (!) or that “the life of a creature is in the flour.” Rather, the whole basis for atonement was in the sacrificial blood on the altar, and through a flour offering, even poor Israelites could participate in the atoning power of the altar. But there is not a single verse in the Bible that would even hint that flour, in and of itself, had any atoning power, and the rabbis never suggested that, in the absence of the Temple, flour could be substituted for sacrifices. Absolutely not. Without the atoning altar and its sacrifices, the flour had no power at all.

In summary: 1) Rabbi Skobac was wrong in claiming that the Christian translations misinterpreted the Hebrew; 2) his own translation is in conflict with both the oldest Jewish translations and the best Hebrew scholarship; 3) his explanation of the atoning power of flour is totally without biblical support. Since I believe Rabbi Skobac to be a man of integrity, I assume that these were honest errors and that he had no intention to mislead. With this, however, the record is set straight.

    ——————————————————————————–

1 http://www.jewsforjudaism.org/web//responsa/r0002.php; I have corrected some English typos as well as incorrect references cited in the original.

2The Orthodox Jewish Stone translation, which, like Rabbi Skobac, translates with “fires of the LORD” demonstrates its inconsistency by translating this exact same phrase in identical contexts with “fire-offerings.” Just look at Stone’s translation of the plural form ’ishshey in Leviticus. Twelve times it correctly translates with “fire-offerings”; only twice does it render with “fires” (Lev 4:35 and 5:12) – even though the context is quite similar and the meaning of the word is obviously the same.

3Interestingly, the one possible occurrence of a plural form of the noun ’esh, fire, is found in the Hebrew original of Ben Sira (Ecclesiasticus) 48:3 – except the form is feminine (’-sh-w-t)! This is in keeping with a feminine parsing of ’esh, which can be either feminine or masculine, in a number of biblical verses (see, e.g., Num 3:4; Exod 24:17; Deut 4:24).

  30. Marianne;

What do you thing about the Noahide Laws? I really didn’t take this seriously before. Now that there is a Sanhedrin in Israel, it’s something to think about.

    A World Court?

    http://www.come-and-hear.com/editor/america_1.html

Unbeknownst to most Americans, the US Congress has been gradually changing the fundamentals of American law. The movement for change started as early as 1975, when Congress passed a resolution honoring the birthday of a prominent rabbi, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, (“the Rebbe”) of the Chabad Lubavitch sect (sometimes this sect is called “ultra-Orthodox”). The movement ratcheted forward in 1991, when Congress coupled Rabbi Schneerson’s happy birthday message with a declaration that the United States of America was founded on the seven Noahide Laws. (1)
The Noahide Laws promise deadly consequences for Christians. We shall understand why a little later.
What are the seven Noahide Laws? In brief: LORD God told the Jews they must obey 613 commandments (72) in order to have everlasting life (i.e., “a portion in the-world-to-come”), but decreed that the rest of mankind must obey only seven commandments. Those seven commandments are the Noahide Laws. Furthermore, LORD God tasked the Jews to enforce the seven Noahide Commandments, and to enforce them with liberal use of the death penalty.
While we read of LORD God writing the Ten Commandments on stone tablets with his finger and giving them to Moses (Exodus 31:18, 34:28), there is no parallel Biblical statement of LORD God writing the Noahide Laws on stone tablets and giving them to anybody. Jews believe that the Noahide Laws were either passed down orally (see More Critical Words of Talmud Study, Oral Law), or derived by rabbis (see Israel’s “One Indigenous Science” [50]). The authority of the Noahide Laws is not questioned, however. (37)
    Here is an excerpt from the 1991 Congressional declaration concerning the Noahide Laws:Whereas Congress recognizes the historical tradition of ethical values and principles which are the basis of civilized society and upon which our great Nation was founded;

    Whereas these ethical values and principles have been the bedrock of society from the dawn of civilization, when they were known as the Seven Noahide Laws;

    Whereas the Lubavitch movement has fostered and promoted these ethical values and principles throughout the world;

    Whereas Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, leader of the Lubavitch movement, is universally respected and revered and his eighty-ninth birthday falls on March 26, 1991;

Whereas in tribute to this great spiritual leader, `the rebbe’, this, his ninetieth year will be seen as one of `education and giving’, the year in which we turn to education and charity to return the world to the moral and ethical values contained in the Seven Noahide Laws; and

Whereas this will be reflected in an international scroll of honor signed by the President of the United States and other heads of state: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That March 26, 1991, the start of the ninetieth year of Rabbi Menachem Schneerson, leader of the worldwide Lubavitch movement, is designated as `Education Day, U.S.A.’. The President is requested to issue a proclamation calling upon the people of the United States to observe such day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.

I am not sure what the fuss is about. God had originally set the death penalty for violating ANY of the 10 commandments, unless there was atonement. So this is his idea, not man’s. We are just blessed that jesus put us under grace.

The seven laws listed by the Tosefta and the Talmud are[3]

      1. Prohibition of Idolatry: You shall not have any idols before God.
      2. Prohibition of Murder: You shall not murder. (Genesis 9:6)
      3. Prohibition of Theft: You shall not steal.
      4. Prohibition of Sexual immorality: You shall not commit any of a series of sexual prohibitions, which include adultery, incest, sodomy, and bestiality.
      5. Prohibition of Blasphemy: You shall not blaspheme God’s name.
      6. Dietary Law: Do not eat flesh taken from an animal while it is still alive. (Genesis 9:4, as interpreted in the Talmud (Sanhedrin 59a)
      7. Requirement to have just Laws: Set up a governing body of law (eg Courts)

Since the Jews are under a stricter set of laws, and no one is being put to death over violating them, I would not expect others, who are under a more lenient set of laws, to be treated in a harsher fashion.

Ideally, Christians would not violate these laws anyhow, so there would be no justification in putting them to death.

I do not think the Antichrist is interested in enforcing God’s laws. I think he will have a set of his own rules which oppose God’s ways.

  31. I don’t think you read it all the way down:

Great Tribulation (beg): Under the pretext of ending the Inquisition, the Antichrist will establish the Noahide Laws to justify “beheading” Christians and eliminating Christianity
Great Tribulation (end): After he has destroyed the Roman Catholic Church and exterminated Christians, the Antichrist will set himself up as the new Priest-King. Since he has the power to change world law, he will reject the Mosaic Law and institute a system of natural law. The basis for natural law will be the obligations of the Dragon Court.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s an Islamic Anti-christ. Did you miss the part about “BEHEADING”. That’s in Revelation and they do that in Islamic countries.

    • Kitti

Yes, I read it but it does not mean what they interpret is true. People are getting upset over god’s laws, and the noahite laws do not say to behead people.

Noahite laws are just the basic laws for gentiles to make them civilized. Whose opinion is this? and what makes them qualified to make such interpretations?

Orthodox Jews are not promoting beheading, and any promotion of Noahite laws is to make the world more righteous, what do you see wrong with the laws?

If a secular government passed these laws, there would be no complaints. Most of them are part of our civil law already.

Not all laws are bad. These laws are protective of society.

  32. What’s the fuss? Even Gavriel is always quoting the Talmud. I challenge every Messianic Jew I know to debate the Lubavitchers about quoting the Talmud, about using it as their primary resource instead of the Bible and what it has to say about Gentiles and Jesus.

The also are promoting the Noahide Movement. You don’t care about that?

Don’t you want the Jews to see the errors of this? You don’t care?

I have it on good recommendation from Paul McGuire that Barbara Aho who contributes to this web site is good.

  33. I didn’t really take any of this seriously, but when you start looking at it through “End Times” eyes, it make a difference. I just thought this writer was being anti-Jewish:

    http://www.come-and-hear.com/editor/america_1.html

but Barbara Aho presents it in a prophetic way. To me that makes a difference.

If someone believes something wrong, you need to point it out, and do it in love, not just brush it aside.

    http://www.come-and-hear.com/talmud/rabbis.html
Her whole web site is on the Talmud and Gemara and she even has it set up you can download the Talmud
    http://www.come-and-hear.com/talmud/rabbis.html

Maybe we all need to open the books up and see for ourselves, just like the Koran and the Book of Mormon.

The Bible is all we need, not some supplement to it.

    Just an excerpt.

I love debates. I used to go to them all the time.

    Jewish Law Enforced on Non-Jews
In the following Talmud excerpt, we see that Jews have Divine authority to enforce the Noahide Laws on non-Jews.
GEMARA. … If a heathen [son of Noah] blasphemed, employing substitutes of the ineffable Name, he is in the opinion of the Sages punishable by death. Why so? — Because it is written, as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land [when he blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shall be put to death].
    — Babylonian Talmud, Tractate Sanhedrin 56a
    Soncino 1961 Edition, page 381

One Witness — Death for Gentile
Rabbi Yitzchok Adlerstein is the director of Project Next Step of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles and a professor of Jewish Law and Ethics at Loyola Law School. Rabbi Adlerstein presents the basic principle of equal protection under Jewish law.
For a Jew to be convicted by a Jewish court, two eyewitnesses must have seen the perpetrator about to commit the crime and warned him of the potential penalty. The murderer must verbally answer that he chooses to proceed anyway. (For a non-Jew, only one witness is required and no verbal warning.)
    — Rabbi Adlerstein, as told to Naomi Pfefferman (57)

So then, Jewish law is not based on “Equal Justice for All.” Different standards are used to judge Jews and non-Jews. To convict a Gentile, all that is needed is one accuser. See US v. Talmud Law for further discussion. (66) Thus, it is very easy to convict a Gentile, but much more difficult to convict a Jew.
Now the Talmud Sages tell us that a single judge decides a Gentile’s fate. There is no provision for a jury in Talmud law.

    • Again, what are you saying? Are you saying that the AC will be using the Talmud Law/Sanhedrin Court to behead the Christians for refusing the Mark of the Beast? Are you saying that all Messianic Jews are wrong in learning about our Hebrew Roots, Jewish Culture and Feasts of the Lord?

    • The Talmud is just the record of rabbinic discussions pertaining to Jewish law, ethics, philosophy, customs and history.

At the time written, gentiles were heathens and did not know God, or his law. Jews were aware of the law, and so, in general, they were more in line with the Word. This does not address any times when the Jews were admittedly sinful themselves. Since the gentiles were lawless to begin with, their credibility and innocence were already in question.

Blasphemy is a sin punishable by death even in the bible.

Paul, in his letter to the gentiles, indicated they did not have to follow Jewish law, but the Noahite laws. He did not use this term, but he described the laws.

    • There are not as many as 57 books in the Talmud. There are only 10, so the references being given are fake.

There is no Tractate Sanhedrin 57.

      http://www.sacred-texts.com/jud/talmud.htm

You are looking at an Satanic forgery of the talmud.

Barbara Aho Blavatsky is a Satanist.

  34. http://www.jesus-is-savior.com/False%20Religions/Judaism/talmud.htm

The following article appeared in Publisher’s Weekly (http://www.publishersweekly.com/article/CA6411679.html ), a mainstream literary magazine and website. It concerns a new book, Jesus in the Talmud, that exposes the shocking truth about the position of Judaism toward Jesus Christ. It was written by none other than Dr. Peter Schaefer, head of Princeton University Judaic Studies Program and one of the world’s most famous academic authorities on Judaism. Once again my research and writings have been verified by the most respected of academics. The facts are clear. The Talmud, which is the highest authority of Judaism, not only makes hateful and pornographic attacks against Jesus Christ, it even boasts that the Jewish community, not the Romans, arrested, tried and executed Jesus. In fact, the Talmud exudes so much hatred against Jesus that it claims the Jewish priests subjected his body to a series of four different torturous executions.

It is not anti-Semitic to state these facts, it is simply the truth. It is not anti-Semitic to expose Jewish extremism and hatred, again, it is simply the truth. Why is it that radical Christians or Muslims are freely exposed in the mass media, but Jewish extremism is a forbidden subject? Why is it that when a political figure exposes racial or religious hatred among Christians or Muslims, he wins media praise and “humanitarian awards,” but if a political figure dares to expose Jewish hatred and extremism, he himself is called a hater and anti-Semite? The fact is that there is no greater enemy of Jesus Christ and Christianity than Judaism and the Jewish extremists who run Israel and have so much influence over the American media and American politics. (The Washington Post admits that 50-60 percent of political contributions for President come from Jewish sources). Some so-called Christian evangelists are now raising money among Christians to support these anti-Christian, extremist Jews!

    • please stop copying and pasting from dubious websites, and confirm this information on your own.

Contact Dr. Peter Schaefer and see if he even said this.

The link you provided does not work.

    • “His blood is upon us and upon our children”, said the Jews, unconsciously accpting salvation of Jesus over themselves, the way gentiles today claim blood of Jesus over themselves;

And why would Messiah delay Judgment Day for almost 2,000 years if not out of love and forgiveness towards Jewish people, so that they are found worthy of salvation by the end of 2,000 years of tribulation and exile?

    • “…it claims the Jewish priests subjected his body to a series of four different torturous executions”

      Nonsense. Where exactly it is written? And don’t tell me that “Bilaam the Wicked” is a codename for Jesus in Talmud, actually, it fits Apsotle Paul more, because he is accused of heresy in Talmud;

And why would Talmud regard gentiles of their days? All of gentiles in that time worshipped the devil, most of gentiles today also worship the devil? “Equality for all”? Never! God, who’s name is Jealous, is a jealous God…and will by no means clear the guilty (Nahum 1:3)

  35. Lyndsey

If you read my entry on

    New Moon and Eastern Gate

You would know that I’m not saying: Are you saying that all Messianic Jews are wrong in learning about our Hebrew Roots, Jewish Culture and Feasts of the Lord?

You should do some research before you start getting in the discussion about something you know nothing about.

Where do you fellowship and where do you get your doctrine?

We’re extremely blessed in California. Marianne says her church in South Carolina is dead. That’s why she’s not fellowshipping with other believers.

Before I accept what Marianne has to say I would like to see someone like Jacob Prasch or Michael L. Brown step up to the plate and address this issue and straighten it out for those of us who have questions.

  36. “You should do some research before you start getting in the discussion about something you know nothing about. ”

*I have been too busy “connecting your dots” trying to figure out what I am even supposed to be researching…Actually I gave up trying…you weren’t making any sense and after I asked you repeatedly to clarify, you still have yet to do this.

“Where do you fellowship and where do you get your doctrine? ”

    * Due to the schedule of my sister’s caregivers, we are unable to attend a synagogue-the services start at 7:30p and this is when the caregiver leaves to go home. I actually live within walking distance of the Baptist Church where I grew up attending. I choose NOT to attend or fellowship there because it is DRY-the Holy Spirit is NOT there or even talked about. This leads into your second question of “where do you get your doctrine”….as stated above, I was raised Baptist, however, after receiving the Baptism in the Holy Spirit in 1988 and realizing that all those years in church NO ONE ever mentioned this wonderful gift that Jesus clearly offers and talks about throughout the New Testament. After receiving the HS and attending other churches, I could feel the HS grieving for most of the churches I attended were so DRY-absent of the HS. After this, I decided to no longer listen to or abide by MAN-MADE DOCTRINE. If they didn’t even know about the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, as it is clearly laid out for them within the SCRIPTURES, and they prefer to preach on whatever they learned in theology school instead, I realized that they didn’t have a clue and evidently didn’t care to either so I chose G-D instead! The scriptures clearly state that it is the Holy Spirit who will lead us into all truth and this is exactly what He has done and continues to do. He is the one who told me twice to learn the Jewish Holidays earlier this year-I knew only of Chanukah and of course with my background, I would have never gone there if the Holy Spirit had not told me to. So once again, “he will lead you into all truth..”John 16:13 13But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. 15All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.

So my frame of reference is 1) Read the Scriptures 2) Ask the Holy Spirit to help me understand what I am reading 3) When being exposed to a church/doctrine/theology always compare to what the scriptures have to say and listen for the Holy Spirit to guide me.

I can honestly tell you that regarding Marianne’s website, this site is annointed-which was confirmed by the HS. A lot of what she writes and explains is in alignment with the scriptures and as she too is a spirit filled believer, I can see where the HS has revealed to her of what she has written here.

Your association with lamblion tells me where you are coming from because after my experience with their site, they are as DRY AS THE ARIZONA DESERT AND SKY. They have no desire to know about the Holy Spirit-they are sitting on their “blessed assurance” waiting on the Pre-Trib rapture-they IGNORE Matthew 24 along with all the other scriptures because it doesn’t fit with their THEOLOGY and MAN-MADE DOCTRINE.

  37. Gavriel;

I really expected you to be a lot more harsh on me than the two Lionesses. I was afraid to look Lol. I think it would be great if something with a scholarly background like Michael L. Brown could address these concerns.

    • I don’t see any scholarly approach to Talmud in anything you posted. Talmud is very complex, with preciseness greater than mathematics and rockets science; It lists 99 untruths or false opinions, just in order to give large perspective and explain how one should deduct one true opinion…for example it explains 60 ways how to prove that pig is kosher – does it make a pig kosher – in no way! So, in arguement regarding heresies, Rabbis discuss modern realities and happening regarding heresy and only one Rabbi mentions someone named “Yeshu” who was hung on a tree on the eve of passover; So, does only opinion of one Rabbi make Jesus Christ a heretic (with no evidence whatsoever that it is Jesus discusses) ? No! Just as 60 ways Talmud mentions of how to prove that pig is kosher does not make a pig kosher…

  38. Lyndsey;

I’ve said it a few times, I can’t write. I see connections. I didn’t realize how many entries I contributed to this blog until I just went down a few of the pages. Now that my pictures there it’s easier to identify. I’ve been on this blog over a year a few months. I was nervous before about posting anything, especially anything that might be controversial or the opposite of what is being presented. I guess what I meant my connecting the dots is that you have to to sift through the information to see the Big picture that I see. You may not see it the way I do even if you do.

If you do have the Holy Spirit as you keep saying over and over and over and over again ask him to explain it to you, not me.

    • And I will say it AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN….We ALL need the Holy Spirit! Why don’t you earnestly explore what Jesus says about the Holy Spirit…the PROMISE of the Holy Spirit and WHY we need him in these last days as opposed to earnestly seeking all your anti-jew propaganda and wanting some guy or guys to come on here and explain to you what THEY have come up with-once again, MAN-MADE DOCTRINE/OPINIONS.

    • “It is God’s will — it is His commandment — that we be baptized, or filled with the Holy Spirit: “Be filled with the Spirit” (Ephesians 5:18). The knowledge and reality of the empowering Spirit enables us to reproduce the works of Jesus. ”

      “Is There Anything To Fear?

Some people fear that if they ask for the baptism in the Holy Spirit, what they experience won’t be the authentic working of the Spirit. But once they do ask for it, they are always glad they did. God doesn’t cause us to do anything we don’t want to, and all His gifts are good and perfect (James 1:17). Jesus said, “Now suppose one of you fathers is asked by his son for a fish; he will not give him a snake instead of a fish, will be? Or if he is asked for an egg, he will not give him a scorpion, will he? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?” (Luke 11:11-13). The baptism in the Holy Spirit is an even better gift than any material gift you could receive, and God wants you to have it because He loves you and wants the very best for you. ”

  39. Lyndsey and Marianne;
It’s really too bad you don’t have someplace where you can get fed. I have disagreements with my own family. I have one sister that loves to hear about the end times and another that stomps out of the house and covers her ears. I’m not going to Women of Faith Conference this year with her. She doesn’t want to hear anything negative. She doesn’t want to be warned about the future. I have a cousin who doesn’t attend church because he says they are all using Rick Warren’s “Purpose Driven Life” book as their sermon. My daughter does and doesn’t know. It scares her too.

  40. You asked for it, so here it is. It is frustrating when a link is broken. I have made a few mistakes not checking out resources. You’ld think I’d learn.

Jewish Return to Israel in end times.

  42. What do I see wrong with the Noahide Laws. Everything. It’s about Eternal life and salvation. Noahides don’t go to heaven.

    Marianne;
Sometimes you puzzle me with your answers.

I have heard Armstrong preach on TV, and I thought he was ok. Nothing radically different from what the bible says.

Worldwide Church of God is a Cult and so is the founder.
    http://www.apologeticsindex.org/a74.html

    • Kittii

Jews do not care about who goes to heaven or salvation. Jews are about 0.1 % of the world population. Christians have the largest majority. So i do not think Jews, even if they wanted to, are going to impose a strange version of the laws on christian.

I want to remind you that christians obey all 10 commandments, which include the noahite concepts anyhow, so there is not going to be judicial action against the christians (majority) by the jews ( minority).. Jews do not behead people.

  43. Marianne;
See how words get you in trouble? That’s like when Abigail lashed out at us on :

    IDF (Israeli Defense Force) update

She cursed us and left the blog. She was here almost as much as Lyndsey is. I’m sure she misses it. Really.

    I hate division.

Do you sound defensive. In my family we bend over backwards trying to explain ourselves and then then the person still won’t understand us.

    Example: Lyndsey up above.
You still don’t get it do you Kitti…..sigh…

Maybe you don’t get it. I like to think I can read between the line. Two of my sisters and I, we end each others sentences and one of my sisters (who I don’t get a long with hates that.) She can’t end my sentences because she can’t read by thoughts.

Give me the benefit of the doubt. I mean well. Now, let me try to explain: I just meant it’s too bad you aren’t getting fed at a Christian Church with a New Testament perspective. Remember, where I go they teach the Whole Counsel of God, not just the New Testament. I know you are happy where you are at and the people love you and you love them.

    • Kitti

I just try to answer the best I can. Like I said, I sometimes have to skim over quickly what is said, to make some kind of reply.

Maybe not reading every word might make one look like they don’t get it.

It would be helpful to have shorter comments, to digest them better. Trying to read long passages cited from somewhere can weary the mind.

Conciseness is a virtue, and key to successful communication.

I get what I read. I don’t get what I don’t have time to read.

I have been at churches that look at both the NT and the OT…..it is the depth that can be lacking.

But for me, that is not the point. I really get more out of the Word when I spend time in it alone. What I hear at any church is something I already know.

Whether it is on TV or in person at a particular church, they bore me, telling me things I already have known for a lifetime.

No one has any fresh word. It is all dead bread. It may be fresh for someone else, but not me.

This does not mean I am not knowledgeable. It just means I do not depend on church pastors to teach me.

I do not need others to feed me, although I always welcome the Word, when presented.

Ideally, the Whole Counsel of God should come from God, not man.

In the days ahead, we may not be able to have a church structure like we have now. Times will become more difficult.

People will have to depend on being alone with God more, if the fellowships break up for safety reasons, or there is no one to teach.

For me, I think I only have a few years left, so the time I spend alone now is actually helpful and precious to me. It gives me time to reflect on the next life more.

Each person has unique needs, and different environments will meet these needs. That is why there is such a variety of worship environments now.

    • Kitti,

I do not appreciate your comparing me to Abigail. Abigail has a religious spirit.

And in a nutshell…if someone is “teaching/preaching” concerning the scriptures and I know they are NOT filled with the Holy Spirit, I do not give much heed to what they have to say because it will be coming from their own knowledge and not from the Holy Spirit!

So, let me ask you the aged old question, assuming you have received the baptism of water-which is for repentance, have you received the baptism of the Holy Spirit?

  44. I know the Jews don’t care about heaven and salvation.

Thats what Jhan Moskowitz of Jews for Jesus

    http://jewsforjesus.org/about/brooklyn/jhan

was saying in the video I posted on https://heavenawaits.wordpress.com/fire-in-my-bones/
    about “Judaism and Theology”

That’s why the Jews are being regathered to be judged “CORPORATELY”. There’s also going to be the Millennial age to fulfill the covenent God made with them.

Once they make agreements with the false prophet and anti-christ they can enforce any laws they see fit. You need to point out what’s wrong with that.

I’d really like to hear from an authority if what you and Gariel are saying is correct about those two Women’s web sites. Before I accept what you are saying.

    • Kitti,

      You said:

Once they make agreements with the false prophet and anti-christ they can enforce any laws they see fit. You need to point out what’s wrong with that.

That sound like an entire post. 🙂

But it will start out as liberalism. Liberals will go along with anything.

  45. I ran across this video last year around March. This broadcaster Gavriel Sanders (a convert to Judaism) http://www.gavrielsanders.com/

was making the statement that Christians were seeking to De-Judaize Israel.

If you go where I posted a video on August 22

Jewish Return to Israel in end times.

about the Israelis and what they think about the Messiah. Most don’t have an answer. Israelis don’t have an identity complex like Jews in American.

    • Kittii

It is unfortunate that Christians do not know how to witness, and when to not witness.

The key to winning someone’s heart is to understand how they feel and think.

One has to be able to see things from that person’s perspective.

Evangelism has become an issue of conquest, rather than an issue of love. So it has failed on the very group Jesus told us to witness to first. We will be judged for this.

Every lost Jew is our fault. This man should have never felt the way he did.

My Jewish friends are very suspicious of Christians who seem to get too friendly, or try to break into their groups. They assume a missionary agenda.

God has me where I am, but I am also supposed to be quiet and listen. I am not there to talk. I am there to learn their heart.

If Christians had less strings attached to their generous gifts, they would be considered more trustworthy.

      Love sells. Conquest doesn’t.

      • Missionaries’ efforts are all in vain! Imho, mystical meditations, kabbalah or near death experiences have more chance of bringing a person to Jesus…on path of spiritual journey or near death experience person will come to point where he will have to decide to give into or not to the dark side, when the right decision is made person is told in spiritual realm that Jesus is LORD…or if dying person realizes that he is going to hell and demons start to taunt him, he may repent and acknowledge that Jesus is LORD! On corporate level, this will happen to Jews in Israel, when in the very last seconds they will think that total destruction in imminent.

  46. As you can see I’m demonstrating how to connect the dots. I posted videos all over this blog.

    • I am seeing dots everywhere before my eyes!!!! 🙂

Sorry, if I am getting a little crazy, but it is my bedtime, and I have been here all day. Good night. I am in a different time zone!!

  47. Marianne;
Why do you say you only have a few years left? What does that mean? Your health or the Lords coming or both?

  48. Goodnight. I’m going hiking tomorrow. Stayed Tune bloggers. I guess it’s time for me to quit too. Shabbat Shalom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  49. Whether Jesus was the Yeshu mentioned in rare spots is really in dispute, since the rest of the reference does not fit the chronology of the time of Jesus:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talmud

    Attacks on the Talmud

Christian accusations against the Talmud have tended to fall into several categories, including alleged:[23]

    1. Anti-Christian or anti-Gentile content
    2. Insults against Jesus or the Virgin Mary (see Yeshu)
    3. Absurd or sexually immoral content
    4. Falsification of scripture

Such accusations often shade into attacks on Jews or Judaism generally,[24] and should be distinguished from criticisms of the Talmud (including some criticism by Jews) on grounds such as excessive legalism, strained reasoning, unhistoric content and superstitious beliefs.[25]

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yeshu

Early 20th century writers such as Herford and Klausner assume without explanation that Yeshu is an equivalent of Jesus. McKinsey points out that the names are not identical and cannot simply be assumed to be equivalent

The term “Yeshu” is not undisputedly attested prior to the Talmud and Tosefta, let alone as a Hebrew original for “Jesus”.

The earliest undisputed occurrences of the term Yeshu are found in five very brief anecdotes in the Babylonian Talmud (c 500 CE) and Tosefta (c 200 CE). The Talmud and Tosefta are works on Jewish law and brief historical anecdotes such as these occur solely to illustrate particular points under discussion.

The text of the Jerusalem Talmud does not mention the name

    Occurrences

    * Yeshu ben Pandera, cited as the teacher of a second century CE heretic (ChullinAvodah Zarah 16b-17a) 2:22-24,
    * A sorcerer who had been stoned on the eve of one Passover. (Sanhedrin 43a)
    * An example of a “son who burns his food in public” (Sanhedrin 103a, Berakhot 17b) identified[who?] as Manasseh of Judah son of Hezekiah in the passages as well as in a corresponding account in the Shulchan Arukh.
    * An idolatrous former student of the early first century BCE rabbi Yehoshua ben Perachiah. (Sanhedrin 107b).
    * The spirit of a foreign enemy of Israel summoned by Onkelos (Gittin 56b, 57a)

The Tannaim and Amoraim who recorded the accounts in the Talmud and Tosefta use the term Yeshu as a designation in Sanhedrin 103a and Berakhot 17b in place of King Manasseh’s real name.

In Gittin 56b, 57a it is used for one of three foreign enemies of Israel, the other two being from past and present with Yeshu representing a third not identified with any past or present event.

The only classical Jewish commentator to equate Yeshu with Jesus was the Rishon (early commentator) Abraham Ibn Daud (12th century) who held the view that the Jesus of Christianity had been derived from the figure of Yeshu the student of ben Perachiah. Ibn Daud was nevertheless aware that such an equation contradicted known chronology but argued that the Gospel accounts were in error.[17].

Jehiel Heilprin (17th century) held that Yeshu the student of Yehoshua ben Perachiah was not Jesus.[21] Jacob Emden’s writings (18th century) also show an understanding that the Yeshu of the Talmud was not Jesus. More recently Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz,[22] author of a prominent new Talmud commentary, holds that Yeshu is not a reference to the Christian Jesus.

  50. Believe it or not I do have some Rabbis I like. When I used to get the Jerusalem Post (I’m thinking about ordering it again) I used to read Rabbi Schlomo Riskin’s column. I really liked it and I liked him. I just stumbled over him yesterday and it’s the most interesting You Tube. It’s on Messianism and Jesus. He lives in Efrat, Israel. That’s really where I wanted to go, not Tel Aviv or Haifa when I went to Isarel; the territories. At least I got as far as Maale Adumim.

I would guess he would come close to what your Rabbi is like Marianne, if I were to guess. I never saw him before on TV or You Tube before. He’s what I thought he would be, very likable.

Converts are more Zealous than those born into a religion, because they have to prove themselves.

  51. I don’t know if you got a chance to read the interview Bill Moyers did with Pierre Sauvage

    http://www.chambon.org/weapons_moyers_interview_en.htm

He didn’t know he was Jewish until he was an Adult. He looks Jewish. His parents were Holocaust survivors. This is another story I watched and read over and over again. So many things said spoke to me.

This is where he made interesting statments about Laws that are passed.
I believe we are going to see the same thing happen in this country.

MOYERS: I was struck at how the people in Le Chambon refused to submerge their own particular individual values to some idea of “the public interest,” “the common good.” They resisted that. They acted out of their own particular faith and their own particular values.

SAUVAGE: I think that’s a fundamental point, and a really fundamental lesson: the notion that these people were acting out of their own conscience, indeed breaking immoral laws.

I’m sometimes a little surprised when Americans in particular overstate the importance of laws. Sure, laws are a mechanism to structure society and are necessary. But they are certainly not sacrosanct. And immoral laws should be violated. They should be cheerfully broken.

    The Holocaust was entirely legal.

    MOYERS: Slavery was legal.

    SAUVAGE: Slavery was legal.

MOYERS: What happened to the Jews in Germany was written into law. It had the sanction of majoritarianism.

SAUVAGE: We are responsible. Individually. We cannot defer that responsibility to the government, to the leaders. “Well, they passed a law, so that’s what it should be.”

Here is something you said and I quote:

“They have a law against proselytizing in Israel. Missionaries tend to break the law. To witness there, one has to do it by example, not by preaching and passing out pamphlets.”

Here’s a Video by an Orthodox Jew, I think it might be from Israeal enouraging Jews to fight Christian missionaries with “The Jewish Tract”.
    Fire with fire.

    • That was a cute video. But breaking anti- missionary laws is not a protest against an immoral law.

People get annoyed with the tracts pushed at them. They don’t change anyone’s mind, and the people approached consider it harassment.

I would not read the tracts either. And I am a Christian already. They do not appeal to the spiritual side of man, and come across as comic book religion.

I would naturally support people accepting Jesus, but I think that is a counter-productive method of witnessing.

  52. As always I beg to disagree. Faud, at my work, read the 4 spiritual Laws tract sitting in the nurses stations. After reading that he is responsible, not me. Its just my responsibility to give out the message, in whatever way I’m led to. The Word will not return void. If it was counterproductive, why are the anti-missionaries starting to make their own tracts?

God reaches people in all kinds of ways. That’s why I like testimonies. It’s inspiring and I’m always amazed. I don’t get tired of hearing about it. I always ask people, how did he reach you? It’s exciting and it builds your faith up, knowing he’s really the one doing it and it takes the pressure off of you.

Muslims are being reached through visions and dreams. The ones who really want to know “THE TRUTH”

  53. Explain in a little more detail:

But breaking anti- missionary laws is not a protest against an immoral law?

Anti-missionary laws are immoral laws. It just proves the only real freedom in this world is here in the United States where faith is concerned. We’re going to lose it, you just wait and see. But then are faith is going to be tested like it is in so many countries that don’t have freedom. We will be tested. Will it be against the law to share your faith? It’s against the law in Muslim countries to convert them to another religion. People should have a choice. You’re born into Judaism, Catholicism and Islam. These three world religions have a lot in common. That’s why they are going to be around in the end times. That’s why they can join hands.

  54. Lyndsey;
This video demonstrates where you get “TWO JEWS THREE OPINIONS”. Jews study the Talmud and what the Rabbis have to say about the Bible instead of studying the Bible for themselves. It’s just the opposite in Christainity. This is probably the fairest video I came across on the subject. Let’s all be fair. I did go looking for this.

  55. Hi Everyone. I found Timothy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Jesus In The Talmud

    By Jacob Prasch

One thing that distresses me, along with every other Jewish mission or evangelist to the Jews, is this: there are so many Christians who love Israel and who have a heart for the Jewish people – which is from the Lord – who confuse loving the people of Israel with loving the government of Israel; or, more seriously, they confuse loving the Jews with loving the religion of the Rabbis that is now called Judaism. Let us look at what Jesus said about this religion, bearing in mind that the modern-day Judaism of the synagogues is not in any sense the Jewish religion of Moses and the Torah.

One way to understand modern Judaism is to compare it to Roman Catholicism or Eastern Orthodoxy: those churches claim to be Christian, but if one reads the New Testament it is quickly obvious that they are not at all Christian; rather they are built from largely pagan traditions which have little or nothing to do with the original teachings of Jesus and the Apostles. This is a religion that comes in the guise of Christianity, bearing the title ‘Christian Church’, but it is in no way true to what Jesus taught. Similarly, in no sense is the Judaism of today the same religion that was taught by Moses.

We will talk about that as we go on, but for now let us look at Revelation 2:9: “I know your tribulation and your poverty, but you are rich; and the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan.” The message here hearkens back to Romans 2 and to the book of Jeremiah: “He is not a Jew who is one outwardly, but he is a Jew who is circumcised of heart.” Even the Talmud admits that people who are anthropologically or genetically Jews would know their Messiah if they were true Jews, or Jews in heart. Jesus calls this Judaism that rejects its own Messiah a ‘synagogue of Satan’. When you pass a Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall, it is a place of Satan; when you pass a mosque, that too is a place of Satan; when you go by a Roman Catholic Church, it is a place of Satan; when you pass a Hindu Temple, that is a place of Satan; and no less is a synagogue also a place of Satan.

There is something in Orthodox synagogues called ha bierkat ha minim; they call it a blessing, but in reality it is a curse. There is also something known in the synagogue liturgy called the shmona asrey: Jesus is called Yeshu instead of Yeshua; they shorten His name to an acronym to mean ‘May His name be blotted out’. They pray that the minim, a collective term for theological dissidents within the Jewish community that included Messianic Jewish believers in Jesus, will be blotted out of the Book of Life. To Jewish Christians, therefore, it is very confusing to see fellow believers who are in philo-Semitic organizations and the like, lifting up Judaism and shaking hands with Rabbis. They watch other Christians stand on platforms and give speeches that make it seem as if Judaism is good and Islam is bad. How would you feel if your brethren in Christ stood up on platforms at the Feast of Tabernacles or some such thing, shaking hands with and making speeches on behalf of people who pray that your name and the names of your children would be blotted out of the Book of Life?

I John 2:22: “Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist: the one who denies the Father and the Son. Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father, and whoever confesses the Son has the Father also.” In Scripture we see prophecy of the Antichrist; then John says that there are many antichrists, and then apart from both we see what can be called ‘the spirit of Antichrist’.

What is antichrist? – That which denies that Jesus is the Messiah. The Judaism of the Rabbis is a false Judaism that denies Jesus as the Messiah. In addition, John says that whatever denies the Father-Son relationship is also antichrist. On the Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount there is a quote from a Surah in the Quran which declares, “God has no son”. Islam denies the Father-Son relationship; it is an antichrist religion. The Judaism of the Rabbis today – not to be confused with the Judaism of Moses and the prophets – is also an antichrist religion.

There is a terrible history of ‘Christian’ anti-Semitism. This is sadly true; nonetheless, man is fallen: in Israel today Orthodox Jews are perfectly capable of doing to non-Jews what anti-Semites did and still do today; they do even worse to Jewish Christians, whom they are trying to deport back to Russia. It is true that terrible crimes were perpetrated against the Jews in the name of Jesus Christ, but false religion is false religion no matter what guise it comes in: Islam, Roman Catholicism, Hinduism, Rabbinic Judaism – they are all antichrist.

Maimonides, known as the Rambam( 1135-1204), the greatest Rabbi taught: “Gentiles with whom we are not at war: One must not directly cause their death, but it is forbidden to save them if they are about to die. For example, if one sees a Gentile falling into the sea, it is forbidden to pull him out, for in Leviticus 19:16 it says, ‘You shall not stand by the blood of your neighbor’, and that Gentile is not considered your neighbor.” – Yad ha-chazaka, the Laws of Murder and Protection of Life. Incidentally, Maimonides, the man who wrote this, was a medical doctor. The same word for ‘neighbor’ is used in Leviticus 19:18 in the famous phrase which says, “Love your neighbor as yourself”; but what this is telling Jews is that since a Gentile is not really a neighbor, they must be left to die.

Let us continue: Maimonides also said, “One is not permitted to heal Gentiles, even for payment. But if the Jewish doctor is afraid of them, or if there is concern about arousing hostility, then he may heal for payment, but not free of charge.” Yad ha-chazaka, Laws of Idolatry chapter 10 verse 2. Joseph Caro, who compiled the Shulchan Aruch, which is the basic “set table” or codification of chalakik Jewish law, said this: “A woman in birth is considered like a sick person whose life is in danger, for whom the Sabbath may be violated for any of her needs in giving birth to her child, such as lighting a candle; but one must not assist a non-Jewish woman in giving birth on the Sabbath.” Shulchan Aruch, Or Hayim, Law of the Sabbath 330:1, 2.

Hafetz Hayim, (also known as Israel Meir Ha Cohen) 1838-1933, founder of the Avodat Israel, and a 20th-century chalakik authority on chalakah – which is Jewish law – elaborates on the preceding item in his commentary Mishnah Berurah, which means ‘the clarification of the Mishnah’, said: “One must not assist a Gentile woman in birth, not even for payment; for in the week-days one assists them in birth only to avoid hostility, and the Magen Abraham (the Shield of Abraham, which is a commentary on the Shulchan Aruch) has written that even where there is concern for hostility, one is only permitted to do activities that do not entail a violation of the Sabbath; and I want you to know that the more acceptable (literally, more kosher) Jewish doctors do not observe this at all, for every Sabbath they travel many miles to heal Gentiles and they write a prescription personally or prepare medication; but they have no chalakik Jewish law, upon which to base such actions as treating or writing a prescription for a sick Gentile. For even if one is permitted to violate a Rabbinic prohibition in order to prevent Gentile hostility, one is certainly not permitted to violate a Rabbinic prohibition, and they are considered intentional violators of the Sabbath – God spare them.” In a parallel column entitled ha or chalaka, the author of the Mishnah Berurah adds, “The same law also applies to Moslems (literally Ishmaelites) and even to Karites (Jews who do not accept torah b’al pei- the oral law ). Everyone agrees that one may not violate a Rabbinic prohibition of the Sabbath in order to save their life.”

Actually and fortunately most Jews and even many moderate orthodox Jews do not believe such hate mongering dogma. But in its ultra orthodox form that literally believes such dogma, this is a bigoted, racist religion from the pit of Hell. It not only denies the Messiah, it even curses Him. It prays that those faithful Jews who do accept Him as Messiah and are the true faithful remnant of Israel would be blotted out of the Book of Life. God called Rabbinic Judaism an antichrist religion, and Jesus called it a synagogue of Satan. Their own literature shows that it is equally bigoted, racist, and vile as Luther, the Roman Catholic Church, or anyone else who has claimed to be Christian and committed crimes against the Jews; they are no better and no different than the apostate forms of Christianity whose anti Semitic adherers for centuries persecuted and killed countless innocent Jews. But even in its more moderate expressions, rabbinic Judaism points God’s covenant people away their Messianic redeemer whose Messiahship is the reason for the covenant.

All have sinned and all fall short of the glory of God – I do not care what the International Christian Embassy says, what Christian Friends of Israel says, or what J. Rawlings says; they are wrong. The people who publish literature in favor of modern Judaism do not know what they are talking about; they have no idea what talmudic Judaism really is. It is Messianic Judaism that fulfills the Torah that is the valid Judaism of today and it is Jewish believers in Yeshua who are the righteous Jews because they have the imputed righteousness of Messiah. Once again, Yeshua told us exactly what this counterfeit talmudic Judaism of the rabbis is: it is a ‘Synagogue of Satan’ misleading precious Jewish souls away from the true salvation of their Messiah and into the eternal damnation of Satan.

We must make a distinction between the religion and the people who are trapped in it. I love Roman Catholics, and because I love them, I hate Roman Catholicism. I love Moslems, and because I love them, I hate Islam. I love Jews, and because I love Jews I hate rabbinic Judaism, which is not the Judaism of Moses; and as we shall see, they know it is not the Judaism of Moses.

What I am going to begin doing now is giving you just an overview of what the Rabbis said about Jesus. If you witness to Jewish people, what the Rabbis have taught them is this: “The Gentiles have taken our Scriptures and twisted them to make it seem like they are speaking of Jesus, but if you read the original context of the Jewish Scriptures you see that it is not talking about Jesus and they have gotten it all wrong.” They can also give you some pretty convincing arguments in that regard. What I am going to give you here is ammunition: but this ammunition can only serve one purpose: to undermine that argument. You can show them only this: that it is not a Gentile or Christian distortion of the Scriptures, for these are not totally alien ideas from Jewish thought that no Rabbi would believe; in fact, the Rabbis confirm the Christian interpretation of these Scriptures. That is all you can do; it will not mean that they will believe, because they can always show you some other chalaka or some other Midrash, or some other Talmud, or some other Rabbinic commentary saying that it does not have to mean what you say. This is known as pilpul, which is the way that the Rabbis devised to argue the chalaka, which comes from the Hebrew word la lechet meaning ‘to walk’, or the way you live your life.

When the Bible says at the end of the Sermon on the Mount that the people were astounded because Jesus taught ‘as one with authority and not as the scribes and Pharisees’, what that meant was that Jesus would not engage in what is called ‘pilpul’. He simply said, ‘This is what God says,’ and would not engage in legalistic nit-picking and searching for loopholes, because it was an endless road to nowhere. He referred to this kind of teaching as ‘leaven’ and warned people to ‘beware of the leaven of the Pharisees’. Jesus did use Midrash, the Jewish way of interpreting the Scriptures, but in moral legislation and the like He would not engage in pilpul – with one exception. Paul also refused to engage in pilpul, with the same exception: When they used it to provoke the Pharisees and Sadducees into fighting with one another. Jesus knew, for example, that the Pharisees believed in the Resurrection while the Sadducees did not; therefore He would say, ‘”I am the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob”; is He the God of the living or of the dead?’, knowing that this would start them arguing. It is almost as if He was poking fun at them, to show them how ridiculous it all was. In any case, this was the only instance where Jesus would engage in pilpul, with the object of turning the Sadducees and Pharisees against each other.

Again, they will always be able to find some rabbinic commentary that says a text does not necessarily have to mean what you say it does; the only thing you will be able to do is show that they cannot sweep our views out the window. The New Testament was written by Jews, Jesus was a Jew, the Apostles were Jews, the first Christians were Jews, and the last Christians will be Jews. The only reason that non-Jews believe in Jesus, in His Gospel and in the New Testament, is that Jews wrote the New Testament and taught them that Jesus was the Messiah. No one can deny that historical fact, although some Jews will try to claim that Christianity is a Gentile fabrication.

What The Rabbinic Literature States Regarding Yeshua

There is a place in the Rabbinic writings called Yoma 39 b, where the rabbis taught that in the forty years prior to the destruction of the Temple, the following happened: on Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, they would hang a scarlet cord – probably associated in some way with Isaiah 1:18 – before the Holy of Holies when the High Priest entered to make the sacrifice. They believed that this scarlet cord would turn white if the sin of the people was forgiven; if they were not forgiven, the cord would remain red. Daniel chapter nine, as we will see, said that the Messiah had to come and die before the second Temple was destroyed; Jesus echoed this in the Olivet Discourse (Matt. 24, Luke 21). The Rabbis taught, “During the last forty years before the destruction of the Temple – which happened circa 70 A.D., the scarlet thread did not become white, nor did the Western lamp in the Temple shine; and the doors of the Holy of Holies would fling themselves open of their own accord. For the forty years before the destruction of the Temple, the scarlet thread never turned white, but remained red.” The second Temple was destroyed in 70 A.D.; forty years before 70 A.D. would have been circa 30 A.D./ C.E. In other words, from the time of Jesus until the destruction of the Temple, according to Judaism, the people’s sin was never forgiven. They are trying to justify themselves by works, but Isaiah 64:6 tells us that our righteous deeds are as filthy rags – the literal Hebrew term for ‘filthy rags’ in this passage is actually a comparison to a blood soiled menstrual cloth – Scripture uses very coarse language to describe human righteousness and religion. Messiahs righteousness is not human, it is a divine righteousness imputed through faith in The Jewish Messiah Yeshua.

“During the last forty years before the destruction of the Temple, the lot for the Lord did not come up in the right hand, nor did the crimson-colored strap become white; nor did the Western-most light shine, and the doors to the Hekal, the Temple, would open by themselves, until Rabbi Jochanan ben Zakkai rebuked them, saying, ‘Hekal, Hekal, why wilt thou be the alarmer thyself? I know about thee, that thou wilt be destroyed, for Zachariah Ben Ido has already prophesied concerning thee, “Open thy doors, O Lebanon, that the fire may devour the cedars.”‘” What this is saying is that Rabbi Jochanan ben Zakkai is supposed to have asked the doors why they were predicting their own destruction.

In the Menahot, it says: “By the morning, the oil in the lamps had burnt out. The priests came in and cleaned out the lamps, removing the old wicks and putting in new wicks, and pouring oil into them, ready for the kindling in the evening. The Western lamp, however, although it had no more oil than the other lamps, miraculously continued to burn the entire day long, so that when the lamps were to be kindled in the evening, they were kindled from this one. The western lamp itself was then extinguished, cleaned out, a fresh wick put in, oil poured in, and then relit. Thus the lamp provided the fire for lighting the other lamps, and yet was the last to be cleaned out. This miracle has testified to the Divine Presence in Israel.”

According to these entries, during the forty years prior to the destruction of the second Temple in 70 A.D., the Western lamp which was the lamp that lit the other lamps – in other words, Jesus, the true Light of the world – went out, which is an indication that the shekinah cloud had left. Also, the doors to the Holy of Holies would fling themselves open; furthermore, the scarlet thread that was tied to the door of the Temple never became white, indicating that the sins of Israel were not forgiven. This took place from the time of the crucifixion of Jesus to the time of the destruction of the Temple; Yoma 39 b.

In order to help facilitate understanding of what happened in the Jewish religion, I’m going to tell you a Tale of Two Rabbis: Once upon a time, there was a very famous rabbi whose name was Rabbi Hillel. There were two main kinds of Pharisee: one was the School of Hillel – this rabbi – and the other was the School of Shammai; academies where rabbis were educated. They had certain differences in their emphasis, but they were the two main schools of Pharisaic thought. The School of Hillel had a number of very famous graduates – Hillel was the grandfather of another very famous rabbi who was his successor, Rabbi Gamaliel. Rabbi Gamaliel is mentioned in the Talmud, which says of him that when he died righteousness perished from the earth. The New Testament tells us in Acts 5 that Gamaliel said that if Jesus was not the Messiah, Christianity would disappear; and if it did not disappear, the Jews who opposed it would be working against God. Rabbi Gamaliel from the School of Hillel was associated with something called the Midot of Hillel, which St. Paul used in his teaching methods. Gamaliel had a number of famous students, one of whom was Onkleos, who did a famous translation of the Targum into Aramaic. He also had two other very famous students, one or the other of whom every Jew who came after them would follow, causing the Jewish religion to have a schism. The first of these students was Rabbi Jochanan ben Zakkai, whom I quoted earlier. When the Temple was destroyed, Rabbi Jochanan ben Zakkai said (in paraphrase), “We have a big problem: we cannot practice the Jewish faith that Moses gave any more.” To this day, on every Orthodox Jewish synagogue you will find the term Ichabod; ‘the glory has departed, the Shekinah has gone’. They know very well that without a Temple they cannot practice the faith of their fathers. On the Passover, the Pesach, instead of taking the Passover seder with lamb, they take it with chicken because they have no priesthood and no Temple.

Rabbi Jochanan ben Zakkai had a council at Yavne, near modern Tel Aviv, at which the rabbis decided the following: instead of the Levites and priests, the rabbis would be the new spiritual authorities, ergo the new leaders of Israel. Also, instead of the Temple being central, the synagogues would become central (synagogues having begun developing after the Babylonian Captivity). Thus another religion began to evolve from that point, based in tradition.

There was a classmate of Rabbi Jochanan ben Zakkai, whose name was Rabbi Shaul of Tarsus – better known to some as St. Paul the Apostle. He was likewise a disciple of Gamaliel; but he said that the Law was fulfilled by the Messiah. Jesus paid the price for our sins, and thus the curse of the Law and the consequences for breaking it were laid on Him. Every Jew is under one law or another; think of an unsaved Jewish person as a kind of backslider – he is in a covenant relationship with God. He may not keep that covenant, he may be an atheist – but he is still under the curse of the Law. If you want to know what happened to the Jews, read Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 28 – their entire history is therein foretold. The Jews are under a national curse because they reject Jesus; they are under the curse of the Law.

By the time the Temple was destroyed, Daniel’s prediction that the Messiah would come and die beforehand was fulfilled. Every Jew then had one of two choices: he either accepted Jesus as Messiah, or he began to practice a Judaism that was not Scriptural. The entire future of the Jewish faith to this day is based on these two classmates: Rabbi Jochanan ben Zakkai and Rabbi Shaul of Tarsus.

At the end of his life, the Talmud tells us, Rabbi Jochanan ben Zakkai was weeping. His disciples came to him and said, “O Mighty Hammer, why are you weeping? Why is your soul in distress?” And Rabbi Jochanan ben Zakkai said, “I am about to meet Ha Shem – God – blessed be His name, and before me are two roads: one leading to Paradise (Heaven) and the other leading to Gehenna (Hell); and I do not know to which road He will sentence me.” The founder of Rabbinic Judaism admitted that he had absolutely no assurance of salvation. He said that he did not know whether God would sentence him to Hell for what he did; at the end of his life he was terrified to die. It is the same for all the Jews who follow him.

However, then there is Rabbi Shaul of Tarsus, who said at the end of his life, “Trouble me no further, for on my body I bear the marks of Christ, and I know there is laid up for me a crown of glory and of righteousness.” He had the assurance of his salvation, and so does every Jew who follows him.

That is what happened in the Jewish faith, and what is going on to this very day.

As early as the Talmudic era, the sages knew that the Messiah should have come already. They cried, “All the predestined dates for the Redemption have passed, and the matter now depends only on repentance and good deeds.” – Sanhedrin 97 beht. They were faced with major prophecies that were well past their dates for fulfillment; Jesus was the only person who claimed to be the Messiah who could actually in His time prove Davidic descent. This is not only recorded in the New Testament, but also in Sanhedrin 43 aleph: “With Yeshu (Jesus), it was different: He was connected with the government. This is an ambiguous phrase, which has actually misled some people to believe that it actually refers to royal lineage.” God spent 1000 years promising Abraham and David that the Messiah would descend from them; therefore, when He allowed all of the genealogies to be destroyed with the second Temple, it was obvious that the Messiah had to have come. So we read, “And the Sanhedrin wept: ‘Oy vevoy, woe to us! For the Temple is destroyed, and the Messiah has not come.'” We will come back to this one.

Genesis 49:10: “The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet until Shiloh comes; and to Him shall be the obedience of the people.” Shiloh is one of the places in which the Ark of the Covenant dwelt, but it became an appellative for the Messiah in Judaism. Every tribe of Israel had its own tribal staff, a scepter, with the tribe’s name inscribed upon it. This represented judicial power. The removal of the scepter, therefore, occurred when Herod the Great – a non-Jew – became king and the Sanhedrin had its power limited; these things both happened during Jesus’ lifetime. The name ‘Shiloh’ is the name of the Messiah, according to the Talmud, Sanhedrin 98 b.

According to the prophecy of Genesis 49:10, the Messiah had to have come prior to the removal of the scepter from Judah. Therefore, either the Messiah has already been and gone or God lied. God cannot lie; so whoever the Messiah was, according to the Talmud He had to have already come at that point. Again, the Talmud mentions how 40 years before the destruction of the Temple the Sanhedrin was moved from the Hall of the hewn stones to a place outside; you may read this in 41a and in the Avodat Zerah 8b. Whoever
The Messiah is, He had to come and die prior to 70AD/CE.

After five centuries of accumulated oral teaching was passed down, Rabbi Yehudah ha Nassi – meaning ‘Judah the President’ – and his disciples wrote down selected material from the oral law, calling it ‘Mishnah’; this was not done until 230 A.D. The Talmud, in other words, was not even written down at all until 230 A.D. What the rabbis teach is this: the Talmud – what they call the Torah b’pei was given to Moses on Mount Sinai, although he did not write it down. However, in Joshua 8:35, among other places, we read this: “There was not a word of all that the Lord had commanded Moses which Joshua did not read before the people of Israel.” So the Torah says that Moses wrote it all down, but the rabbis deny this and claim that the oral law was given without being written down until a later date. They go so far as to say that the opinion of one rabbi is more important than the opinions of a thousand prophets, because the prophets were only messengers and secretaries, while the rabbis had to interpret the messages and divulge their meaning.

Each generation continued to raise new questions, so there were experts, one of whom was Rabbi Yohochanan, of the same college as Tiberias. He compiled these new rabbinic decisions in about 330 A.D. When this was done, he called it the Gimmorah , taken from the Hebrew word that means ‘to finish’, or ‘completion’.

The Mishnah and the Gimmorah were put together and named the Jerusalem Talmud; this was the first Talmud. Through the centuries, however, there has been much tampering with the Talmud, and there are all kinds of critical arguments as to what the original actually said in some cases.

During the Dark Ages – from about 900 to 1500 A.D. – other things began to develop. Few Jews could understand the Hebrew or Aramaic text, so commentaries and codifications were written on the Talmud. These codifications were condensed into systematic codes of law, and from here we have things called the Torim, the Riff , the Schulhan Aruch, Ha kitzor Ha Schulhan Aruch, the Mishnah Torah, etc. Rambam was the main rabbi at this time; preceding him was Rashi in France. They got continually further away from the Word of God, and began developing along the same lines as Roman Catholicism.

Around 1000 A.D. there was a rebirth of Aristotelianism in the Moslem world. Thomas Aquinas totally redefined Roman Catholicism in Aristotelian terms when he wrote Summa Theologia, in which he said that the opinion of the ‘church’ was more important than the opinion of the Bible, just as the Rabbis declared the opinion of a rabbi more important than that of all the prophets. Reacting against Aquinas, who was a terrible heretic, were people like the Reformers, who came from the Humanists.

However, what Aquinas did for Roman Catholicism, Rambam did for Judaism – he wrote a book called A Guide for the Perplexed, followed by something called Mishnah Torah, in which he Aristotelianized Judaism with totally Hellenistic ideas that were alien to anything originally believed by Jews.

Some other Talmudic writers were the following: Rabbi Shlomo Itzachi, Rabbi Saida Gaon (‘the Genius’), Rambnn , Rabbi Moshe de Nachman – (also know n as Nachmanides) , Rabbi David Kimchi, Ibn Ezra, Rabbi Levi Ben Gershom, etc.

At this point, the Kaballah began to come on the scene. Kaballah is mystical Judaism, the chief work of Zohar. It began in Poland.

To these they added other sacred books: such as the Pirque Rabbati, and the Yalkuth, and various haggadic 13th-century writings. Then there was the Yohar on Moses (, which is held by Hasidic Jews today because it uses Gnosticism and spiritualization, which is their approach to Judaism).

In any event, what does God say about all this? Let us look: “Because this people draws near to Me with their words and honors Me with lip service, but they remove their hearts far from Me, and their reverence for Me consists of tradition learned by rote.” – Isaiah 29:13. All of the prophets prophecied only about the Messiah; the entire Old Testament is about the Messiah, according to the Talmud in Sanhedrin 99a, d. “The world was not created but only for the Messiah” – Sanhedrin 98b. In John chapter one, it says that the world was created through Jesus and by Him. Rabbi Yosef said that the Messiah would come when this gate (Rome) shall fall and be built again, and the land Israel would be overrun by enemies, in Sanhedrin 96-99. The stone cut without hands in Daniel 2:44-45 is the Messiah, according to the Pirque Eliezar chapter 11.

There was a famous rabbi named Rabbi Leopold Cohen, who was greatly troubled by Daniel 9, which said that the Messiah had to come and die before the destruction of the second Temple. He wanted to find out what this meant; so he read in the Talmud that the world would last for 6,000 years, ‘for a thousand years is like yesterday in Your sight when it passes by’; they link this, according to Rabbi Katina , with Psalm 90:4. From this they derive that the world would be 2000 years in a state of chaos, 2000 years under the Law of Moses, and 2000 years under the Messiah, when the Shabbat – the Millennium – will be 1000 years of peace. Then will come the war of Gog and Magog, and the Messiah will renew the world after 7000 years, according to Sanhedrin 96b and 99a, and Yalkut volume II p. 129d. – this is exactly what the book of Revelation teaches. The Messiah will arrive to destroy the nations and to rule the earth for a thousand years of peace when people are conducting themselves in the following manner: Those who fear sin will be abhorred, truth shall fail, children will rebel against their parents, general lawlessness will abound, Sadducaicism would universally prevail (the Sadducees denied the Resurrection, like the Bishop of Durham) – in other words, when people who claim to be believers in God deny the Resurrection on a popular level: When Anglican Arch Bishop of York David Jenkins denied the Resurrection of Jesus, two thirds of the Anglican bishops defended him; but the ancient Rabbis long before David Jenkins said that Sadducaicism would prevail universally – the study of God’s Law would decrease, there would be a general increase in universal poverty and despair, apostasy would increase, and there would be a growing disregard for Scripture. This comes from Sanhedrin 96b, 99a – or, if you wish, read Paul’s epistle to Timothy.

Rabbi Cohen had a big problem when he went to the Talmud and saw this. He realized that the Messiah had to have come around 32 or 33 A.D. The Talmud said two things in this regard: one was as stated above, and the other was that there is a curse on anybody who reads Daniel 9. He asked his instructors why, and looked into the Talmud, and found that it said the reason for the curse was that the time of the Messiah’s coming was foretold in Daniel 9. He could not believe that God would put something in His Word and not want people to understand what it meant; therefore, Rabbi Leopold Cohen became a Baptist minister.

I mention this in passing, though it is a subject that could be treated at much greater depth: in the Talmud it is noted that the word dor in Hebrew, meaning ‘generations’, is spelled correctly before Adam fell in Genesis 2:4, but afterward the Hebrew letter vov – which is also a ‘6’, since in Hebrew the letters also stand for numbers – is missing, because Adam lost six things. The letter vov is then replaced in Ruth 4:18, because she was the grandmother of King David, whose son would be the Messiah. The Messiah would restore the six things lost by Adam. Bresheit Rabbah 12, p. 24b (of the Warsaw Edition).

To this day, the Rabbis read the Book of Ruth at Pentecost, the birthday of the Church. Ruth is the story of a Jewish man who takes a Gentile bride, and from their union the lineage of David begins – from which the Messiah would ultimately come. Do you see how they knew? They knew that somehow the Messiah would, through this Gentile woman, restore what Adam had lost.

Jews will go to all kinds of lengths to tell you that Zechariah 12:10-12 does not necessarily refer to the Messiah. Zechariah 12:10-12 says “And they will look upon Him whom they have pierced, and mourn for Him as one mourns for an only son”; they will try to deny that this must mean they will look on the Messiah whom they had pierced. However, in Sukkah 52a it says directly: “They will look upon Me – the Messiah – whom they have pierced”. The Talmud confirms rather than denies that this is speaking about the Messiah – whom they had pierced.

The Messiah will arrive with the clouds of Heaven, according to Daniel 7:13, but humble and mounted on a donkey according to Zechariah 9:9. One Talmudist proposes that if Israel deserves it, the Messiah will come with the clouds of Heaven, but if Israel is not deserving, He will come poor and riding on an ass. (Sanhedrin 96b – 99a.) To this day, this is how the Rabbis will get around it: they will claim that the Messiah did come in the days of Jesus, but Israel was not worthy and therefore he did not reveal himself. Thus this becomes the big catch-all, by which they are able to explain anything away.

In Deuteronomy 18 Scripture says that if you predict something that fails to happen in the name of the Lord, you are a false prophet. I show that to the Jehovah’s Witnesses right before showing them false prophecies made in their own literature. The same with the Vineyard people and John Wimber’s false prophecies; it cannot be denied, so they find they cannot handle it. Rabbi Menahem Schnerson , the last Lubavitch rebbe, said that Messiah was going to come at Rosh ha Shanah (September) of 1991. The day after this deadline, I called up the Chabad Center in London and asked to speak to someone who spoke Hebrew. When he came on the line, I asked in Hebrew, “Well?” – he knew what I meant. Then I went down to Stamford Hill with some of my friends from CMJ who have a Messianic testimony, bringing our tracts. We confronted the Jews there with the fact that Moshe Rabbenu says that if people predict things in the name of Ha Shem that don’t happen, they are false prophets who must be taken out and stoned; we then asked them if they keep the Torah. The point of this was to show them that if they remain under the Law, they must take their Rabbi Schnerson out and stone him as a false prophet; their only other choice is to accept Yeshua as their Messiah who fulfilled the Law. They didn’t like that much.

I love the Talmud – it illustrates so clearly the old joke, “If you have two Jews, you have three opinions”. Forget three opinions – if you have two Jews, you have thirty-three opinions! Israel would have no more Messiah because he had come in the days of King Hezekiah, according to Rabbi Hillel – not the original Hillel, but another one. (Sanhedrin 96b, 99a.) In the same passage, Sanhedrin 96b – 99a, his grandson, Rabbi Yosef, said “May God forgive my grandfather, Rabbi Hillel.”

Some Talmudists, however, thought that the Messiah would come on two separate occasions, which would account for the two conflicting descriptions of his arrival – again, Moshiach ben Yosef and Moshiach ben David. It is stated that the two dates given in Daniel 12:11,12 were to date the two arrivals at 45-year intervals. (The Midrash on Ruth 2:14, p. 43b of the Warsaw Edition; also The Lost Talmud on Daniel 9, 24-27.) The ancient Talmudists knew a lot of things.

One thing that will inevitably happen to you when you talk to Jewish people is, again, that they will tell you Zechariah 12:10-12 is not about the Messiah. An answer to give them is that Sukkah 52a says it is. They will also try to tell you that Isaiah 52 and 53 are not about the Messiah. I showed those very passages to a Jewish girl on a kibbutz in Israel once, and she immediately said, “This is about Jesus.” No one had to tell her anything or manipulate her thinking – she simply used common sense. Her name was Sally Brown, and I hope she gets saved. Anyway, the Talmudists knew that Isaiah was predicting the Messiah’s appearance in Isaiah 52:14: “His – the Messiah’s – appearance was marred more than that of any man, and His form more than the sons of men” Sanhedrin 97b, Yalkut volume II p. 53c and also Shemoth R, 15-19. The Talmud repeatedly quotes Isaiah 53 as a prediction of the Messiah’s appearance on earth.

There are two main Targums in Judaism: the Targum Onkleos which I mentioned earlier, and Targum Jonathon. After the Babylonian Captivity, most Jews knew Aramaic rather than Hebrew, so they translated the Scriptures into Aramaic. However, these were not simply translations, but also interpretations. It says: “Who has believed our report, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? For He grew up before Him like a tender root out of dry ground; He had no stately form or majesty that we should look on Him, nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him. The Messiah was despised and forsaken of men, a man of sorrows acquainted with grief” – it goes on and on and on, directly pointing to the Messiah in these passages. “Each of us has turned to his own way, but the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall upon the Messiah”; “Although He had done no violence, nor was any deceit in His mouth, the LORD was pleased to crush Him, putting Him to grief if He would render Himself as a corban – a guilt offering – He would see His offspring, He would prolong His days, and the good pleasure of the LORD will prosper in His hand, and as a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied. By His knowledge the Righteous One, My Servant, will justify many and will bear their iniquities” and so on. “He Himself bore the sin of many, and interceded for the transgressors” – Sanhedrin 98b, also the Midrash on Samuel, the Lemburg (SP?) Edition, p. 45a, and the Targum of the Kingdom of the Messiah. They knew very well that this was about the Messiah; the Targum Jonathon says so specifically.

Jewish people will often accuse Christians of twisting Scriptures to make them about Jesus when they actually are not about Him; what most Rabbis will say is that these passages are about Israel and the vicarious suffering of Israel. There are a number of problems with that: one is that the same Isaiah repeatedly castigates Israel for its sin, whereas he describes this Suffering Servant as having no sin. Therefore their idea is simply incompatible with the context. There are four Servant Songs in Isaiah, and the fourth one, found in Isaiah 52-53, is different from the others. In one sense, the rabbis are right: much the same as the Church is the Body of Christ, Jesus is the embodiment of Israel. For example, when you see verses that say things like “Israel My glory, Israel My Firstborn”, they are midrashically alluding to Jesus. But only in a very abstract sense are these passages about Israel; their primary meaning, according to the Rabbinic literature, is pointing to the Messiah. When they tell you this is not about the Messiah, ask them to explain the Targum Jonathan, or the Midrash on Samuel, which say it is.

Jewish people will also accuse Christians of inventing a New Covenant that does not exist, claiming that the only covenant is the Torah. Jeremiah 31:31 says that God will make a new covenant, but when you tell them this they will try to tell you that you have misunderstood the text. At this point, you can point to the Midrash on Psalm 7, p. 5a of the Warsaw Edition: “God will speak through the Messiah to make a new covenant.”

Psalm 2 says, “Thou art My Son; do homage to the Son, lest He become angry and you perish in the way.” The Rabbis say that God has no Son; but they have a big problem. Here is where I tell you how to drive an Orthodox Rabbi into early retirement in Florida: Psalm 2 is put together with Psalm 110 and II Samuel 16:1, and then connected with the Suffering Servant of Isaiah 53. These things can be read in the Midrash on II Samuel 16:1, paragraph 19 of the Lemburg Edition, p. 45; also the Midrash on Psalm 7, p. 5a of the Warsaw Edition; and Yalkut (SP?) Volume II p. 90a. (These things can be obtained at a Yeshiva or a religious Jewish library.)

It goes on to say, then, when it has connected Psalm 110 with II Samuel 16:1 and Isaiah 53, “Against God and His Messiah: “If I find the Son of the King, I shall lay hold of Him and crucify Him with a cruel death.” The Talmud actually says that the Messiah would be crucified ‘Litzlov oto’ is exactly what it says, ‘crucify’. This is one thing they cannot answer; it shocks them.

Once again, in Genesis 49:10 Jacob predicted that the scepter would not depart from Judah nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet until Shiloh comes; the Babylonian Talmud states that when this occurred, the sages said ‘Woe to us, for the scepter has been taken from Judah, and the Messiah has not appeared!’ Rabbi Ruchman adds that the members of the Sanhedrin covered their heads with ashes, their bodies with sackcloth, and wept when they heard these words. The Jerusalem Talmud dates this occasion at a little more than forty years before the destruction of the Temple in 70 A.D.; so they are saying that from around 30 A.D. the Messiah was pierced. – The Jerusalem Talmud, Sanhedrin Volume 24, and the Babylonian Talmud, Sanhedrin chapter 4 Volume 37.

“The sins of those who are hidden with thee will cause thee to be put under an iron yoke, and they will do with thee as with the calf. I take it upon me that no Israeli should perish; am I not flesh and blood?” – the Midrash on Jeremiah 31:8, the same as Isaiah 53. “All limits of time as regards the arrival of the Messiah are past.” – Sanhedrin 96-99. The Talmud states clearly that the Messiah had to have come already.

In the Talmud it is noted that God has made various numbers significant in His plan: they noted that there were ten names for idols and prophets, ten trials of Abraham, ten generations from Adam to Noah, and ten generations from Noah to Abraham – the Avotah chapter 36. They developed from this a dating system. This Mosaic dating system of Israel is given in Leviticus 26:13-16, and they Messianically applied it in the Talmud. Moses dated the Messiah’s exit in A.D. 33 – Midrash Bresheit , Rabbah on Genesis, p. 24b of the Warsaw Edition. Their own dating system says that the Messiah had to exit in 33 A.D.

The Talmud states that the Temple’s destruction in 70 A.D. was predicted by Daniel 9:24-27. When you get into arguing with rabbis about the weeks of Daniel and what they mean – I have not the space to explain it now – the easiest thing to say is that Daniel 9 says that the Messiah had to come and die before the second Temple was destroyed. “No, it doesn’t”, they will tell you, but Yalkut Volume II p. 79d says it does, and so does Nazir 32b. The Talmud states that the destruction of the Temple in 70 A.D. was predicted by Daniel 9:24-27, when the coming of the Messiah to be cut off was predicted to precede this destruction. So the Messiah was predicted to arrive and to be killed before 70 A.D., according to the Talmud – and the Rabbis knew this.

The Talmud confirms that the stone cut without hands in Daniel 2:44, 45 is again the Messiah. “A stone to strike and a rock to stumble over, and a snare and a trap for Jerusalem”. In Isaiah 8:14 God also predicted that the leaders of Israel would reject the Messiah: “Thou hast become my Yeshua; the stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.” – Psalm 118:21, 22, which is the Hillel Rabbah that they sang to Jesus on Palm Sunday.

Moses Maimonides, Rambam, the greatest rabbi, confirmed that Yeshua the Messiah’s appearance in A.D. 30 was Israel’s greatest stumbling block. In Kings and Wars chapter 11, the uncensored edition, (the rabbis have for obvious reasons put out a censored edition) it says “There has never been a greater stumbling block than this problem of Yeshua (Jesus) in 30 A.D. For three and one-half years, the Shekinah – God’s dwelling, His presence – dwelt on the Mount of Olives, waiting to see whether Israel would repent, and calling on them to “Seek ye the Lord while He may be found – call on Him while He is near”, but all was in vain. After three and a half years, the Shekinah returned from the Mount of Olives. – Rabbis’ Lamentation.

There is something called the Avodat Zerah; it is one thing when Christians say they believe that Jesus did miracles, rose from the dead, and ascended from the Mount of Olives – but what about when people who were not only non-Christians but actually anti-Christian believe all these things? You can read Roman historians such as Suetonius and Tacitus, and it is fascinating to read of how Jesus was understood by pagan Rome – even they did not deny the things that He did; it was said to be common knowledge throughout the Roman Empire that Jesus rose from the dead. The Avodat Zerah, however, says that Jesus did miracles as no other rabbi, that his disciples not only healed the sick but even raised the dead in His name, that after He was crucified He rose from the dead, and that He ascended into heaven from the Mount of Olives. All of that is actually in the Talmud – even His enemies acknowledged the truth of what He did. This was written by rabbis who were trying to prevent other Jews from believing in Him; but they had to deal with the historicity of His miracles, of His disciples doing miracles, and not only of His crucifixion but also of His resurrection and ascension into heaven – the Talmud admits He did it! When you confront an Orthodox rabbi with these things, he will not want to deal with it. However, if you press him, he will tell you that Jesus knew Kabbalah – this was invented centuries later, but they say it anyway – Jesus knew Kabbalistic, mystical secrets and had the ineffable name of Ha Shem (the Tetragrammaton) under His tongue and under His foot and so on, and this is how He performed these miracles. That is what they will tell you if pressed.

The rabbis will try to tell you that Psalm 22 does not really say “They have pierced My hands and My feet”; all of Psalm 22 was fulfilled in Matthew 27, but in Hebrew there is a difference in the letter aleph, and they shorten a vov to make it a yud; in this way they will try to change “They have pierced My hands and My feet” into “I am like a lion’s paw”. This might be legitimately true, except that someone must have changed something at some point because the Talmud states the following: “At the time of the Messiah’s creation, the Holy One – blessed be He – will tell him in detail what will befall him according to the : ‘There are souls that have been put away with thee under My throne, and it is their sins which will bend thee down under a yoke of iron and make thee like a calf whose eyes grow dim with suffering.'” In other words, according to the Talmud, the Messiah would know before He was born that He was coming to die for His people. “And during the seven-year period preceding the coming of the Son of David, iron beams will be brought and loaded upon his neck until the Messiah’s body is bent low. It was of the ordeal of the Son of David, who wept, saying ‘My strength is dried up like a potsherd’, Ps. 22:16.” In Yalkuth Shimoni, they connect ‘many dogs have encompassed me’ (using a midrashic principle called “binyan ab m’shna ketubim”) with the Book of Esther , commenting on which, Rabbi Nehemiah said “They pierced my hands and feet”..Hence, the Pisgah Rabbatai 36:1,2 states directly that Psalm 22 is about the Messiah coming to die.

There are technical linguistic explanations for the translation of ‘like a lion’ such as a textual reading adjustment called ” im crea”. Then, in the Yalkut Shimone, we find this: “‘Many dogs have encompassed me'” – they connected this somehow with the book of Esther and the king Ahasuerus – “‘but the assembly of the wicked have enclosed me; ka a’ri'”; in English, ‘they have pierced my hands and my feet’ – Rabbi Nehemiah quotes it this way, and the reading of ‘pierced’ was accepted by ancient rabbis. In addition, the Peshitat Abitai says directly that Psalm 22 is talking about the Messiah suffering and dying.

Again, Isaiah 52 and 53 from the Targum Jonathon: “Behold, My servant the Messiah shall prosper; He shall be exalted, and great and very powerful” – it states directly and repeatedly that this is about the Messiah.

Daniel 9, Megillah 3 aleph of the Targum of the Prophets, was composed by Jonathon ben Uzziel under the guidance of Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi, according to tradition: “And a voice from heaven came forth and said, ‘Who is this who has revealed My secrets?’ and he further sought to reveal by Targum the inner meaning of the Hegiographa (the portion of Scripture which includes Daniel), but a bat kol went forth from Heaven and said, ‘Enough!’ ‘Why, why should we not read Daniel 9?’ ‘Because the date of the Messiah is foretold in it.'” And again, Sukkah 52 a regarding the Messiah being pierced: “What is the cause of the mourning in Zechariah 12:12? It is well according to him who explains that the cause is the slaying of the Messiah, the Son of Joseph, since that well agrees with the Scriptures: ‘And they look upon Him, because they have thrust Him through, and shall mourn for Him as one mourns for an only son.'”

We could continue almost indefinitely like this; there is not a single Messianic prophecy that I would use in witnessing to Jewish people that I could not prove not to be a Christian invention applying it to Jesus. The Talmud agrees, for instance, that Micah 5:2 is about the Messiah, who in some way had to be pre-existent: “O you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, are by no means least in the clans of Judah, for from you going forth from eternity will be one whose existence is from eternity.” From the Targum of Micah 5:1 from Targum Jonathon says this: “And you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, you who are too small to be numbered among the thousands of the house of Judah, from you shall come forth from Me the Messiah to exercise dominion over Israel – He whose name was mentioned from before the days of creation.” In this way when one meets with the protest that Christians have read something into Micah 5:2 that it does not really say, one may respond that Christians have not read anything into it that Jews did not read into it long before Christianity was established.

From Genesis 3:1-15: “And it shall be that when the sons of the woman study the Torah diligently and obey its injunctions, they will direct themselves to smite you on the head and slay you” – right from the beginning, they believed that the Messiah had to be slain. Comments on Genesis 23:5 from the Midrash Rabbah show that Rabbi Tanhumah said, “In the name of Rabbi Shmuel Kozit, she hinted that the seed would arise from another source – the Messiah”. The Midrash deals with Eve’s naming of Seth, which is connected with the idea of the Messiah being bruised upon the heel and then bruising the head of the serpent.

You will only ever do one thing with all of this information: that is, undermine their arguments that these things are Gentile fabrications resulting from Gentile Christians twisting the Jewish Scriptures. One can show very clearly that these things were understood by ancient rabbis in the same way in which they are understood by Christians. But there is something called ‘ecclentics’ or convictions. “No one comes unless the Father draws him” – if you bring a Jehovah’s Witness to my door, I can win every argument, but it does not mean they will get saved. The same can be said of a Mormon or again of a rabbi.

These things are very important – Paul said that we should be “instant in season and out of season, to refute every argument”. I certainly do not deny the importance of this kind of teaching; but without prayer and without holy lives that will provoke the Jews to jealousy, it is useless. We have a long way to go, but God is doing something. We will see God work among the Jewish people in the Last Days in the same way in which He worked in the time of the early church – with not only thousands being saved, but even tens of thousands. We will see whole synagogues split over the issue of Yeshua being the Messiah – but do you know what? We will also see whole churches split over the same kind of issue.

  56. I like Jacob Prasch’s writing. I’d love to see him debate someone, not just lecture.

I guess I can’t copy and paste it. It’s copyrighted. I’ve been breaking the law. I wasn’t purposely doing it. All these people claim they want to reach others for Christ, but they copyright their material that is Christian and they charge for their conferences. It’s really a shame.

    http://www.netzarim.co.il/

    • My impression is that this is a new movement, which relates back to the first believers. But there has been no “activity” in between to suggest that this group h as been around for 2000 years. Since there is no continuity, they are not identical, since the mindset, emotions, example, mentality, views were lost in those years. They are trying to imitate them by what they can read and find out.

I do not know where this guy gets his data in the video, but women were not created first, and then reproduced themselves for 71,000 years without a man. He suggests that since they had no real men to mate with, they chose nephilim to mate with. This is not what the Torah teaches.

Jews actually do not proselytize. They prefer that Jews remain Jews, and gentiles remain outside of Judaism, unless there is a full conversion, which requires several years of study, and then acceptance by the rabbis. The Noahite laws are a way to have the gentiles live in a compatible way with Jews, without a conversion experience.

  59. Wouldn’t this video be considered proselytizing? Only to being a Noahide instead of a Christian?

“Gentiles for Moses”: The Debate about the Nature and Intensity of Jewish Proselytizing Efforts in Ancient Judaism

Yet the fact remains that it is rather difficult to categorize all forms of ancient Judaism under the labels “missionary” or “non-missionary.” Different Jewish communities and individuals had wide-ranging views on the fate of the Gentiles, the limits of acceptable interaction with the Graeco-Roman polis, the role of the synagogue in a city, and the means and necessity of Gentiles entering into Israel. Some groups were more interested in proselytes than others. This generated a constellation of views and practices towards Gentiles. What pagans saw in Judaism would depend entirely on what they saw of it, and that would vary from Alexandria to Antioch, from Gaul to Galilee. There were indeed conscious attempts to give pagans a positive disposition to Judaism, to defend Judaism against criticism, to demonstrate the parity of the Jewish way of life with Hellenism and a willingness to receive incomers. There was also great pride in the number of Gentiles who imitated or adopted the Jewish way of life. Second Temple Judaism did attract proselytes and facilitate the conversion of Gentiles that wanted to convert to Judaism, much to the ire and contempt of some Greek and Latin authors, but it was not self-conscious missionary since the role of Israel, the Torah, and the synagogue was never directed unequivocally towards Gentile recruitment. Perhaps a better analogy of mainstream Jewish attitudes towards converts can be found in the tract Numbers Rabbah 8.3:

The Holy One loves the proselytes exceedingly. To what is the matter like? To a king who had a number of sheep and goats which went forth every morning to the pasture, and returned in the evening to the stable. One day a stag joined the flock and grazed with the sheep, and returned with them. Then the shepherd said to the king, “There is a stag which goes out with the sheep and grazes with them, and comes home with them.” And the king loved the stag exceedingly. And he commanded the shepherd, saying: “Give heed unto this stag, that no man beat it”; and when the sheep returned in the evening, he would order that the stag should have food and drink. Then the shepherds said to him, “My Lord, thou hast many goats and sheep and kids, and thou givest us no directions about these, but about this stag thou givest us orders day by day.” Then the king replied: “It is the custom of the sheep to graze in the pasture, but the stags dwell in the wilderness, and it is not their custom to come among men in the cultivated land. But to this stag who has come to us and lives with us, should we not be grateful that he has left the great wilderness, where many stags and gazelles feed, and has come to live among us? It behooves us to be grateful.” So too spoke the Holy One: “I owe great thanks to the stranger, in that he has left his family and his father’s house, and come to dwell among us; therefore I order in the law: ‘Love the stranger’” (Dt. 10.19).

In the midrash on Numbers, the proselyte (stag) joins Israel at his own initiative and without any obvious attempt to draw or recruit him. The passage also assumes that proselytes are somewhat of an anomaly and regulations concerning them are ambivalent. The notion of a mission oriented towards making proselytes is nowhere in sight as the impetus falls upon the necessity of accepting proselytes who willingly attach themselves to the Jewish community. Perhaps this sums up ancient Jewish attitudes towards Gentile converts: a warm willingness to receive, but not necessarily a self-conscious need to pursue. Given the various pressures placed upon Jewish communities in the ancient world this was probably a sensible attitude to take.

    Comparing Christianity & Judaism

Kreeft outlines the main theological and practical differences, as well as the important common elements, between Christianity and Judaism.

If Jesus returned to earth today, which church would He go to? A Catholic church, of course, replies the Catholic. No, a Protestant church, argues the Protestant. I think both are wrong. I think he would begin as He did 2,000 years ago in a Jewish synagogue.
The long history of Christian anti-Semitism, in thought and deed, is perhaps the worst scandal in all the Church’s history. It is the Oedipus complex, for Judaism is Christianity’s father. All Christians are spiritually Jews, said Vatican II, echoing St. Paul. Christianity subtracts nothing from Judaism, but only fulfills it.

This is the point of the “Jews for Jesus,” who insist that a Jew who becomes a Christian does not lose anything Jewish but completes his or her identity. When a Hindu or a pagan becomes a Christian, he is converted. When a Jew becomes a Christian, he is completed.

This is surely Jesus’ point of view too, for He said He came not to destroy the Law and the Prophets but to fulfill them. From His point of view, Christianity is more Jewish than modern Judaism. Pre-Christian Judaism is like a virgin: post-Christian Judaism is like a spinster. In Christ, God consummates the marriage to His people and through them to the world.

What have Christians inherited from the Jews? Everything in the Old Testament. The knowledge of the true God. Comparing that with all the other religions of the ancient world, six crucial, distinctive teachings stand out: monotheism, creation, law, redemption, sin and faith.

Only rarely did a few gentiles like Socrates and Akenaton ever reach to the heights and simplicity of monotheism. A world of many forces seemed to most pagans to point to many gods. A world of good and evil seemed to indicate good and evil gods. Polytheism seems eminently reasonable; in fact, I wonder why it is not much more popular today.

There are only two possible explanations for the Jews’ unique idea of a single, all-powerful and all-good God: Either they were the most brilliant philosophers in the world, or else they were “the Chosen People” — i.e., God told them. The latter explanation, which is their traditional claim, is just the opposite of arrogant. It is the humblest possible interpretation of the data.

With a unique idea of God came the unique idea of creation of the universe out of nothing. The so-called “creation myths” of other religions are really only formation myths, for their gods always fashion the world out of some pre-existing stuff, some primal glop the gods were stuck with and on which you can blame things: matter, fate, darkness, etc. But a Jew can’t blame evil on matter, for God created it; nor on God, since He is all-good. The idea of human free will, therefore, as the only possible origin of evil, is correlative to the idea of creation.

The Hebrew word “to create” (bara) is used only three times in the Genesis account: for the creation of the universe (1:1), life (1:21) and man (1:27). Everything else was not “created” (out of nothing) but “formed” (out of something).

The consequences of the idea of creation are immense. A world created by God is real, not a dream either of God or of man. And that world is rational. Finally, it is good. Christianity is a realistic, rational and world-affirming religion, rather than a mythical, mystical, or world-denying religion because of its Jewish source.

The essence of Judaism, which is above all a practical religion, is the Law. The Law binds the human will to the divine will. For the God of the Jews is not just a Being or a Force, or even just a Mind, but a Will and a person. His will is that our will should conform to His: “Be holy, for I am holy” (Lev. 11:44).

The Law has levels of intimacy ranging from the multifarious external civil and ceremonial laws, through the Ten Commandments of the moral law, to the single heart of the Law. This is expressed in the central prayer of Judaism, the shma (from its first word, “hear”): “Hear O Israel: the Lord, the Lord our God is one Lord; and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might” Deut. 6:4).

Thus, the essence of Judaism is the same as the essence of Christianity: the love of God. Only the way of fulfilling that essence — Christ — is different. Judaism knows the Truth and the Life, but not the Way. As the song says: “Two out of three ain’t bad.”

Even the Way is foreshadowed in Judaism, of course. The act brought dramatically before the Jews every time they worshiped in the temple was an act of sacrifice, the blood of bulls and goats and lambs foretelling forgiveness. To Christians, every detail of Old Testament Judaism was a line or a dot in the portrait of Christ. That is why it was so tragic and ironic that “He came to what was His own, but his own people did not accept Him” (John 1:11). Scripture is His picture, but most Jews preferred the picture to the person.

Thus the irony of His Saying:

You search the Scriptures, because you think you have eternal life through them; even they testify on my behalf” (John 5:39-40).

No religion outside Judaism and Christianity ever knew of such an intimate relationship with God as “faith.” Faith means not just belief but fidelity to the covenant, like a marriage covenant. Sin is the opposite of faith, for sin means not just vice but divorce, breaking the covenant.

In Judaism, as in Christianity, sin is not just moral and faith is not just intellectual; both are spiritual, i.e., from the heart. Rabbi Martin Buber’s little classic “I and Thou” lays bare the essence of Judaism and of its essential oneness with Christianity.

Christians are often asked by Jews to agree not to “proselytize.” They cannot comply, of course, since their Lord has commanded them otherwise (Matt. 28:18-20). But the request is understandable, for Judaism does not proselytize. Originally this was because Jews believed that only when the Messiah came was the Jewish revelation to spread to the gentiles. Orthodox Jews still believe this, but modern Judaism does not proselytize for other reasons, often relativistic ones.

Christianity and Judaism are both closer and farther apart than any two other religions. On the one hand, Christians are completed Jews; but on the other, while dialogue between any two other religions may always fall back on the idea that they do not really contradict each other because they are talking about different things, Jews and Christians both know who Jesus is, and fundamentally differ about who He is. He is the stumbling stone (Is. 8:14).

  62. It’s too bad

    http://therefinersfire.org/

doesn’t live up to the lyrics of this song:

  63. I was reading Jon Courson’s commentary on the book of Jude today. I would never have gotten this out of reading these verses.

    Amos 9:11-12

“On that day I will raise up The Tabernacle of David, which has fallen down, and repair its damages; I will raise up its ruins, That they may possess the “Remnant of Edom” and all the “Gentiles” who are called by my name,” says the Lord who does this thing.

    This is his commentary:
James was a leader in the early church, as seen in Acts 15, concerning the the argument as to whether or not Gentiles converted to Christianity were required to undergo the rite of circumcision. The question was debated and James stood and quoting the prophet Amos 9:11-12 said Gentiles did not need to become Jews first and did not need to be circumcised in order to become Christians because God has His called ones even among the heathen.

    • I guess if that applies to all chosen gentiles, then it makes one wonder why the Hebrews had to go through it, since they were chosen also.

      I like the song. 🙂

  64. Another email, I’m clearing. This is ironic:

Israel is overhauling it’s Bible Education.”

I know I shouldn’t be surprised. They are going to increase and we are going to decrease (in Bible knowledge in this country). Too much.

    Overhaul in Israel’s Bible education
Education Ministry reaches conclusion Israeli high school students uninterested, unfamiliar with basics of Bible. New study program aims to correct current situation, introduce more book of Genesis contents
    Tamar Trabelsi-Hadad
    Published: 09.20.10, 08:20 / Israel Jewish Scene

If one were to ask a new Israeli high school graduate to name the Ten Commandments, specify the Three Pilgrimage Festivals or relate the creation story, one would be met with a deafening silence more often than not.

For years, the study material for the Bible matriculation exam has not included Bible basics such as the Shema Yisrael prayer, Tefilin, and other fundamental social commandments.

Having conducted a thorough examination, the Education Ministry has decided to revolutionize next year’s Bible study program with the aim of restoring Bible education to its original status.

“Many students today complete their matriculation exams without knowing the book of Genesis, Abraham and the Hebrew Prophets,” Drora Levy, national Bible supervisor in the Education Ministry admitted. “The book of Genesis is the Bible’s genetic code, our foundation as a people. Without it we have no roots, no promise,” she added.

The new Bible study program for state high schools will require teachers to follow the chronological order of events in their classes, contrary to the current custom. In addition, schools will not be given a choice of subjects but will be required to teach all stipulated contents. “The students will learn the Bible in the appropriate manner,” Levy said.

The new program will also make it mandatory for students of the 7th-12th grades to use the Bible text and Jewish commentaries alone and no longer be aided by various booklets. It was revealed that many students have never opened an actual Bible during their studies as there were aid books offering short summaries in easy language at hand.

    Making Bible approachable
Education Ministry officials believe that the overhaul will make the subject of Bible more approachable for pupils. Bible is currently considered one of the least popular subjects with young students. Officials are also confident that the change will be reflected in a rise of the national average matriculation exam score which currently stands at 75.

“No doubt there was a need for change in the Bible study program, which veered away from the actual folktales,” Education Minister Gideon Sa’ar said Tuesday. “The new program is one step in many which we are planning for the improvement of schools’ Bible teaching.”

The Ministry’s next step will be to conduct a reform in elementary schools’ Bible classes.

  65. The answer to your question:
    Q. I have a question about when Paul circumcises Timothy in Acts 16:3 because of the Jews. Just before that there was a big deal made about not requiring the Gentile believers to follow the law and they even held a committee on it. Several leaders in the faith sent the decision out to Antioch and it was decided that the Gentiles were not required to be circumcised. Paul was a part of this group. Right after that Paul circumcises Timothy whose father was greek. Why on earth would he do such an about face?

    A. In 1 Cor. 9:19-22 Paul said that when he was among Jews he acted like a Jew and when among gentiles he was like them. He said he was all things to all men so as to save some. Since Timothy was a young man whose mother was Jewish, and since they were going among the Jews, he circumcised him to help him be accepted by the Jews.

In Galatians 2:3 we see how he refused to circumcise Titus, because he wanted to show those who claimed that circumcision was necessary to be saved that they were wrong.

  66. Marianne and Leatherneck;
I really don’t like posting this, but I feel I don’t have a choice. There’s a double standard going on here and Silvan was severely attacked by Gavriel and you when he brought this up. It’s okay to show Muslims raping, stoning and beating up women, but God forbid Jews do it.

    • kitti

Silvan was not the one attacked. He had a firm conviction that the current state of Israel was a Zionist conspiracy, and should be destroyed.

His position was that Muslims have nothing to do with terrorism in the world. It is all a Zionist conspiracy to destroy Jews. And all Jews are evil. He saw nothing good in them.

He listened to a lot of antisemitic propaganda, and I could not get him to see a balanced view.

I also don’t show anything obscene here. A general complaint or message is allowed, if done properly. But no bad images or language. The video also has to be credible, not just made by anyone with a twisted agenda. It has to have some proof with it.

Also, liberals are the same everywhere, not just Israel. But one cannot stereotype the whole nation because of one small group. If you post about sin in Israel, you should post about sin in Pakistan.

  67. Fair enough Marianne. If we don’t expose these things nothing will change. Surprisely there has been sexual abuse in the Ultra-othorodox community of Brooklyn, New York similar to that of the Catholic community. I heard of it on a secular news station a year ago. I did a search. Here’s the story.

For decades, prosecutors in Brooklyn routinely pursued child molesters from every major ethnic and religious segment of the borough’s diverse population. Except one.

Fred R. Conrad/The New York Times
Members and activists take part in a meeting for Survivors for Justice, a group formed to help Orthodox Jews molested as children.
Of some 700 child sexual abuse cases brought in an average year, few involved members of the ultra-Orthodox Jewish community — about 180,000 followers of Hasidic and other sects who make up the largest such cluster outside Israel. Some years, there were one or two arrests, or none.

But in the past year, there have been 26. District Attorney Charles J. Hynes has brought charges against a variety of men — yeshiva teachers, rabbis, camp counselors, merchants and relatives of children. Eight have been convicted; 18 await trial.

If the sudden spike in prosecutions is startling, even more surprising is the apparent reason: ultra-Orthodox Jews, long forbidden to inform on one another without permission from the rabbis who lead them, are going to the police and prosecutors on their own.

  68. Human Trafficking happens everywhere. Even in my own community. An Egyptian family has a slave living in their garage. Why should Israel be any different? It is a secualar state.

    • this is very sad. Where do these girls come from? They mentioned deporting the traffickers. Where do the traffickers come from?

Hopefully, one can also see by the news and police report, that this is something they don’t want there, if they are breaking up the brothels, rescuing the girls, and deporting the criminals.

  72. It was a story I read that happened a year or so ago. It’s in my area. Of course I would call the police. A similar story of an “American Family” up in Northern California kidnapped a black teenager and kept him as a slave. I couldn’t find the story.

    A New Life

Six months later, on the morning of April 9, 2002, Orange County Child Protective Services social worker Carole Chen responded to an anonymous caller (believed to be a neighbor) reporting a case of child abuse. The person said that a young girl was living in the family’s garage, acting as a maid, and not attending school.

Chen, along with Irvine police investigator Tracy Jacobson, knocked at Ibrahim’s front door. When he answered, Jacobson asked who else lived in the house. Ibrahim said his wife and five children.

    Courtesy of Irvine Police Department
Shyima slept in this windowless room in the garage.

“Are there other children?” the officer pressed. Ibrahim admitted there was a 12-year-old girl. He claimed she was a distant relative.

“Can I talk to her?” Jacobson asked.

Cleaning upstairs, Shyima was oblivious that her salvation was moments away. Ibrahim called to her in Arabic, telling her to come downstairs and deny that she worked for them. Shabbily dressed in a brown T-shirt and baggy pants, she hurried to the door.

Chen, who noticed that the girl’s hands looked red and raw, called a translator on her cell phone. Shyima told him that she’d been in the country for two years and had never been to school.

Officer Jacobson promptly took the girl into protective custody. Riding in the backseat of the police car, headed to a children’s group home where she would be temporarily placed, Shyima prayed she’d never have to face her captors again. “She was amazing, a very strong child,” Jacobson recalls. “She never cried. Shyima liked being in protective custody, unlike other kids, because she felt safe.”

A few hours later, Jacobson, armed with a search warrant, returned to Ibrahim’s house with agents from the FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). In the garage, they photographed Shyima’s stained mattress. A bucket of soapy water stood next to a broken lamp; folded clothes were on the floor. “Shyima lived in complete contrast to the rest of the family,” says Jacobson. ICE agent Bob Schoch adds, “I’ve seen pets that are treated better.”

Hoping to justify the arrangement, Ibrahim showed the agents the handwritten, notarized contract he and Shyima’s mother and father had signed. “It said she was to work for them for ten years,” Jacobson says, “for a stipendpaid to her parents of $30 a month.”

The investigator arrested Ibrahim and Motelib, charging them with conspiracy, involuntary servitude, obtaining the labor of another person unlawfully, and harboring an alien.

On the day of Shyima’s rescue, immigration officials offered her a choice: Return to Egypt or stay in America and live in a foster home. Nervous and tentative, Shyima phoned her father in Egypt and blurted out, “I want to stay here.” He was angry, but Shyima’s mind was made up: She wanted to start a new, better life.

During the next two years, she lived with two foster families. In the first home, she learned to speak and read English. In the next one, in San Jose, they expected her to become a strict Muslim, and after an argument, they dropped Shyima off at a local group home. “I just wanted to be a regular American teenager,” she says.

She soon got her wish. Chuck and Jenny Hall, parents of two daughters and a son, had recently bought a four-bedroom house in Orange County and decided they had room for more children. After becoming foster parents to a 15-year-old girl and Chuck’s 13-year-old nephew, they were ready to welcome another. At their first meeting with Shyima, “we all clicked,” says Chuck, a uniform company service manager. “She had the same sense of humor I do.”

Shyima had just two questions for her prospective parents: Were there house rules, and what chores would she have to do? “Everything is negotiable,” Chuck answered.

“The No. 1 rule: Homework and school first,” added Jenny, a youth counselor. “We’ll treat you as our own daughter. You’ll be part of our family.”

By then 15, Shyima had blossomed into a beautiful young woman. But she brought more with her than her suitcase. “I had a whole lot of anger,” she says. For the first six months, she had trouble sleeping and suffered from anxiety. She regularly saw a therapist and took medication for depression.

With time, she grew more self-confident. At school, she made friends, including a first boyfriend, and joined the track team. She got a part-time job at a Godiva chocolate store and participated in church dinners and car wash fundraisers. She even volunteered to be a counselor at a camp for children with low self-esteem.

Ibrahim and Motelib, meanwhile, accepted a plea bargain to avoid trial. At their October 2006 sentencing hearing, Shyima sat nervously in the courtroom, listening to their pleas for mercy. “What happened was due to my ignorance of the law, but still I have all responsibility,” Ibrahim told the judge.

Motelib was less repentant. “I treated her the same way as I would treat her in Egypt. I would have been very happy if she had come and told me, ‘Please don’t do this.’ Then I would have changed my actions.”

Unable to contain her outrage, Shyima asked to address the court. “[Motelib] is a grown woman, so she knows right from wrong,” she said. “Where was their loving when it came to me? Wasn’t I a human being too? I felt like I was nothing when I was with them. What they did to me is going to scar me for the rest of my life.”

Ibrahim received a reduced sentence of three years in prison, and Motelib got 22 months. The couple were also ordered to pay Shyima $76,137 for the work she did. Both will be deported to Egypt when they get out of jail.

After the hearing, Shyima celebrated by going shopping for a dress to wear to her high school homecoming dance. She and Jenny chose a beautiful one—long, shiny, and black. With a portion of her restitution money, Shyima also got a laptop, a digital camera, and a new Nissan Versa; she put the rest into a college fund.

“She’s strong-willed and independent,” says Jenny, who with her husband legally adopted Shyima last year. “She knows what she wants.”

As for the future, Shyima says she’d like to be a police officer so she can help other people. She also wants to return to Egypt one day to visit her brothers and sisters. For now, though, she’s content, indulging the dream she never imagined would come true: life as a regular American teen.

While on assignment in Sudan, reporter E. Benjamin Skinner met a man who had lived most of his life as a slave. The encounter inspired the new book A Crime So Monstrous: Face-to-Face with Modern-Day Slavery (Free Press), based on Skinner’s five-continent investigation of the human-trafficking trade.
RD: Why do you think slavery still exists?

Skinner: There are pockets around the world where people are absolutely desperate. Criminals will look at an individual with no education, financial resources, or access to credit, and say, “Here’s an opportunity to make money.” Until recently, there’s been little recognition by some countries that slavery still exists within their borders. That attitude contributes to the problem here.

    RD: How so?

Skinner: There’s this idea that a domestic worker who’s quiet is probably lacking [immigration] papers, or that somebody on the street dressed a certain way is a prostitute.

A domestic worker who never leaves the house may, in fact, be a trafficked woman, and a prostitute may be a sex slave.

RD: How common is slavery in the U.S.?

Skinner: The low-end State Department estimate of people trafficked into the country annually is 14,500, and there are more than 43,000 slaves at any given time. Overall, about 2 percent get rescued, and the U.S. is one of the best in the world on this.

RD: What can the average citizen do?

Skinner: Victims get out of these situations when individuals say, “Something is wrong here.” So be aware of your neighborhood. Make sure elected officials put modern-day abolition on the American foreign policy agenda. Get involved with groups like Free the Slaves.

RD: What surprised you most about the victims you interviewed?

Skinner: The capacity of human beings to have their humanity ripped away, then rebuild their lives.

    Law and Order
The United States started a program in 2000 to crack down on human trafficking and began ranking countries according to their willingness to eradicate the practice. In the most recent ranking, Egypt ended up just above the lowest tier. With urging from the United Nations, more than 100 countries have, in the past five years, passed or amended laws making human trafficking a crime. The State Department has also stepped up efforts to identify, investigate, and prosecute the crime domestically. One hundred and eleven people were charged with human trafficking in the U.S. in 2006; 98 were convicted. Shyima Hall’s case was the first one prosecuted in Orange County.

  73. Marianne;
Would you care to share your view and opinion of what is being said in this video, since you attend an orthodox shul? I would be interested to hear what you have to say. I posted it, you summarize it? Fair?

    • hi kitti

I guess the question is, how far do liberal Jews want to go?

We see the corruption of morals in this country over the same issues.

Liberals have no faith, being secular, and want to do as they please, which includes immoral behavior, homosexuality, pornography, etc. Conservatives fight this and are considered intolerant. On the flip side, liberals hate conservatives, and don’t want them to have any rights at all.

Biblically speaking, Israel cannot be really defined as Israel, unless it has a religious faith that supports the state. To God, the state and the faith should be united as one.

While I would expect the orthodox to recognize a conservative wedding, I would also expect jews to practice their faith. Otherwise, what are they doing there?

The term “secular Jew” is a paradox, just like “secular Christian.” It is a conflict to carry the name of your religion and then not practice your faith properly. Otherwise, liberals should just call themselves atheists, and not Jews, and live somewhere else.

Since I am not there, I am not sure why a group of Jews would be chased away from the Western Wall. I have seen all sorts of people go to the Western Wall, including christians, and they were not chased away.

While I think the Orthodox should be fair to other Jews, when the others have a legitimate need to practice their faith in their own way, I also think secular Jews need to cover up a little and be less offensive in their dress and behavior. Naked butts on the beach is asking for a lot of tolerance.

  74. Marianne;
Have you heard of “The Global Day of Jewish Learning” that is happening on November 7th? Is your community participating in it?

    http://www.1people1day.org/overview_about%20the_day.php
    http://www.1people1day.org/why_a_global_day_of_jewish_learning.php

Why a Global Day of Jewish Learning?
“Torah is the shared inheritance of all the Jewish people.
It does not belong to a special sect or an elite group of the Jews.
We have a responsibility to share our common heritage with all Jews.
We each get an equal share.”
    -Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz

The Global Day of Jewish Learning is meant to imbue an appreciation for the texts that define us, and to inspire hope in the commonalities that unite us. Guided by the values of Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz – that Jewish texts should be available to all Jews, that the Torah belongs to us all – the events of November 7, 2010 will remind us that although we may be dispersed across the globe, we shall always stand together.

The themes that the curriculum will be based upon include, but are not limited to, the environment, love, prayer, the land of Israel, God, leadership and miracles. We are creating an innovative curriculum at multiple levels for the beginner who has never seen a word of Hebrew to someone who studies Jewish text on a regular basis. Each theme will contain between two to four classes at multiple levels and topics. All of the classes are being developed by master level Jewish educators throughout the world. Each class will be a unique experience.

The learning component is the one piece that will unite Jewish communities around the world on November 7, 2010. Wherever the Jewish community might be – Hong Kong, Moscow, Seattle, Miami or Boston – we will all be learning from one Jewish source, the volume of Ta’anit. No matter one’s background – the Global Day can reignite Jewish learning and unity

    • kitti

I had not heard about it, but I have not been in shul for 2 weeks. I did not notice it in the shul’s emails, but there have been learning topics, such as medical ethics.

  75. http://www.1people1day.org/what_is_a_siyyum.php

    What is a Siyyum

What is a Siyyum? In Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz’s own words

A siyyum, when one finishes a tractate of Talmud, is considered to be a holiday. The hadran kaddish that is recited at the siyyum is not very old, only about 700 years; its text is not terribly rigid.

It begins with the notion that “we are coming back to you.” That is what we are saying to the tractate. We have finished you for now, but we will return to you again. The second section is a mystery, the third is about learning itself, the fourth is our thanksgiving and the last is the actual kaddish.

Kaddish has nothing to do with the dead. The word itself is best translated as a “Gloria.” The hadran is unlike other forms of kaddish and also slightly longer. This is the version that Maimonides approved and that the Yemenites use every day. Most other Jews recite this version of the kaddish only on two occasions: at a siyyum, or immediately after someone is buried (and never again during the mourning period.)

The word “hadran” means “encore.” In essence, in the hadran, we are saying: We are going to come back to you Masechet NAME and you will return to us. We will be mindful of you…and you will be mindful of us. We won’t forget you…and you won’t forget us, not in this world and not in the next.

I suppose that my work on the Talmud opened a new era: taking the books out of the hands of the experts and making them available to everyone – and able to be mastered by everyone.

It is a huge change of culture when knowledge is no longer the sole property of a special group.

Knowledge belongs to everyone. We are not “spreading” knowledge. Instead, we are giving it back to its owners. The saying, “Torah tziva lanu Moshe, morasha kehillat Yaakov,” means that Torah is an inheritance for all of us.

The root meaning of the Hebrew verb “to know” – yud, daled, ayin – is not purely intellectual or remote. As Adam “knew” Eve in the Biblical sense, knowledge signifies involvement.

It is for that reason that I don’t like the term, “Jewish education.” That implies that education is for others, for the generation below. Education is for each of us, no matter how old we are. It is for parents to teach the Hebrew letters to their children, on their own, without delegating it to others. It is very hard to send your child to do things, to go and study, when you won’t do those things yourself.

By connecting the siyyum to a drive for Jewish learning, we are not saying “adieu,” a final good-bye. Instead, we are saying, “au revoir,” we will see you again. You use the siyyum to begin a move, because knowledge is the Jewish patrimony. It is important that this day of Jewish learning be a collective experience.

It is a sad fact when someone does not know his Jewish patrimony. But if you allow that fact to exist – that is a shame.

For this kind of move, my watchword is “One Step Ahead.” Wherever you stand, make a step ahead. That doesn’t define where you stand, or how far you go.

  76. http://www.1people1day.org/guiding_values.php

    Guiding Values
“Why is learning compared to a fire?
Just like a fire burns stronger with many chips than with a single chip…
So too, the Torah grows stronger when studied by many students together than by one alone.”
    – Tractate Taanit, 7a

On November 7, 2010, the Jewish people will look to this passage, and the pages in which it is found, to celebrate and strengthen our commitment to our texts and our heritage.

The guiding values of the Global Day of Jewish Learning are each exemplified in that passage: the power of community, the right of every Jew to Jewish education, the warmth and light of the texts that define us.

Taanit, the tractate of Talmud that will be among the focuses of the Global Day of Jewish Learning, explores the cycles of the Jewish calendar and its rhythm of commemoration and celebration. It deals, as well, with miracles, marriage and memory, among other compelling issues. This rich volume enables communities around the world to engage with the same primary source, even as they study diverse topics and themes. Through our study of this tractate we will be celebrating both our unity and our diversity.

Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz’s commentary on Taanit has been translated into Hebrew, English, Spanish, French, and Russian. As Tractate Taanit celebrates the triumphs of Jewish unity, the power of devotion, and the bonds between our people, our history, and our texts, so will we.

  77. When I was reading this it made me think of these two verses:

    Hebrews 10:24-25

and let us consider how to stimulated one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another and all the more, as you see the day drawing near.

    I Corinthians 3:13
each man’s work will become evident for the day will show it, because it is to be revealed with “FIRE” and the “FIRE” itself will test the quality of each man’s work.

This global day made me think of:

There is a tradition that the Messiah will come if every Jew observes the Shabbat twice in a row (Talmud, tractate Shabbat 118).

    Mashiach/Messiah

The Hebrew word Mashiach (or Moshiach) means anointed one, and refers to a mortal human being. Within Judaism, the Mashiach is a human being who will be a descendant of King David continuing the Davidic line, and who will usher in a messianic era of peace and prosperity for Israel and all the nations of the world. The job description, as such, is this:
All of the people of Israel will come back to Torah
The people of Israel will be gathered back to the land of Israel.
The Holy Temple in Jerusalem will be rebuilt.
Israel will live among the nations as an equal, and will be strong enough to defend herself.
Eventually, war, hatred and famine will end, and an era of peace and prosperity will come upon the Earth.
The traditional Jewish understanding of the messiah is non-supernatural, and is best elucidated by Maimonides (Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon), in his commentary to tractate Sanhedrin, of the Babylonian Talmud. He writes:
“The Messianic age is when the Jews will regain their independence and all return to the land of Israel. The Messiah will be a very great king, he will achieve great fame, and his reputation among the gentile nations will be even greater than that of King Solomon. His great righteousness and the wonders that he will bring about will cause all peoples to make peace with him and all lands to serve him…. Nothing will change in the Messianic age, however, except that Jews will regain their independence. Rich and poor, strong and weak, will still exist. However it will be very easy for people to make a living, and with very little effort they will be able to accomplish very much…. it will be a time when the number of wise men will increase…war shall not exist, and nation shall no longer lift up sword against nation…. The Messianic age will be highlighted by a community of the righteous and dominated by goodness and wisdom. It will be ruled by the Messiah, a righteous and honest king, outstanding in wisdom, and close to God. Do not think that the ways of the world or the laws of nature will change, this is not true. The world will continue as it is. The prophet Isaiah predicted “The wolf shall live with the sheep, the leopard shall lie down with the kid.” This, however, is merely allegory, meaning that the Jews will live safely, even with the formerly wicked nations. All nations will return to the true religion [monotheism, although not necessarily Judaism] and will no longer steal or oppress. Note that all prophecies regarding the Messiah are allegorical – Only in the Messianic age will we know the meaning of each allegory and what it comes to teach us. Our sages and prophets did not long for the Messianic age in order that they might rule the world and dominate the gentiles….the only thing they wanted was to be free for Jews to involve themselves with the Torah and its wisdom.”
This principle is accepted by Orthodox Jews. Conservative Jews vary in their beliefs, some affirming a personal messiah, while others affirm a messianic era. “We do not know when the Messiah will come, nor whether he will be a charismatic human figure or is a symbol of the redemption of humankind from the evils of the world. Through the doctrine of a Messianic figure, Judaism teaches us that every individual human being must live as if he or she, individually, has the responsibility to bring about the messianic age. Beyond that, we echo the words of Maimonides based on the prophet Habakkuk (2:3) that though he may tarry, yet do we wait for him each day…” [Emet ve-Emunah: Statement of Principles of Conservative Judaism]
Reform Jews generally concur with this latter position; they are more likely to believe in a messianic era than a personal messiah. Reconstructionist Jews reject the idea that God can send a personal messiah or bring about a messianic age, but they do teach that man can use the power or process termed God to help bring about such a world.
While Christians use the word “messiah” as well, they use it in a different way. Most Christians believe that God underwent self-incarnation as a human. In this view, God was both fully human and yet also fully divine, both limited in intelligence and yet omniscient, simultaneously. Philosophically and logically, these claims appear mutually incompatible. Yet the early church insisted that both truths be held together. See Christology and apophatic theology.
The afterlife and olam haba (the world to come)

Many secular or liberal Jews would state that Judaism does not believe in an afterlife, or that it is a this-worldly religion which concentrates on the here and now. While it is certainly true that Judaism does concentrate on the importance of this world, the fact is that much (not all) of classical Judaism does posit an afterlife. Much of the Jewish tradition affirms that the human soul is immortal, and thus in some way survives the physical death of the body. The existence of the soul after death is described with terms such as Olam Haba (the world to come), Gan Eden (the Heavenly Garden of Eden, or Paradise) and Gehenna (Purgatory).
Classical rabbinic afterlife teachings varied in different places and times; they were never synthesized into one coherent philosophy. As such, the different Jewish views of the afterlife are sometimes contradictory. This is especially true for “Olam Haba”, the world to come. In some rabbinic works this phrase refers to the messianic era, a physical realm right here on Earth. However, in other works this phrase means Gan Eden, Paradise, a purely spiritual realm.
There is much rabbinic material on what happens to the soul of the deceased after death, what it experiences, and where it goes. At various points in the afterlife journey, the soul is said to encounter: Hibbut ha-kever, the pains of the grave; Dumah, the angel of silence; The angel of death; The Kaf ha-Kela, the catapult of the soul; Gehenna (purgatory); and Gan Eden (Heaven; Paradise).
Gehenna is fairly well defined in rabbinic literature. It is sometimes translated as “hell”, but one should note that the Christian view of hell is different from the Jewish view. For Christians, hell is an abode of eternal torment where sinners go; any person who does not accept Jesus as their messiah is defined by most Christian sects as someone destined for eternal damnation. In Judaism, gehenna – while certainly a terribly unpleasant place – is not hell. The overwhelming majority of rabbinic thought maintains that people are not tortured in hell forever; the longest that one can be there is said to be 12 months. Some consider it a spiritual forge where the soul is purified for its eventual ascent to Gan Eden [Heaven], where all imperfections are purged.
    Biblical support for an afterlife
The Tanakh speaks of several noteworthy people being “gathered to their people.” See, for example, Genesis 25:8 (Abraham), 25:17 (Ishmael), 35:29 (Isaac), 49:33 (Jacob), Deuteronomy 32:50 (Moses and Aaron), 2 Kings 22:20 (King Josiah). This gathering is described as a separate event from the physical death of the body or the burial.
Certain sins are punished by the sinner being “cut off from his people.” See, for example, Genesis 17:14 and Exodus 31:14. This punishment is referred to as kareit (literally, “cutting off,” but usually translated as “spiritual excision”), and is traditionally understood to mean that the soul loses its portion in the afterlife, or “World to Come”.
The Torah also prohibits contacting the spirit of the dead in Leviticus 19-20 and Deuteronomy 18, indicating that something of a person lives on after physical death. As well, Saul, in 1 Samuel 28:19, employs a sorceress to raise the spirit of the prophet Samuel who had died some time prior.
Other verses suggesting an afterlife include:
Isaiah 26:19 “Thy dead shall live, their bodies shall rise. O dwellers in the dust, awake and sing for joy!…”
Ecclesiastes 12:7 “Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, And the spirit will return to God who gave it”
Perhaps the most explicit Biblical reference to an afterlife is found in the Book of Daniel:
Daniel 12:2 “And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to reproaches and everlasting abhorrence.”
    Biblical support for no afterlife
In the Tanakh God’s promises to the people of Israel – whether benefits or punishments – seem to concern events of this world and not another (e.g. good crops, peace; famine, plague). Some verses appear to actively deny the existence of the afterlife:
Isaiah 39:18 “For it is not Sheol that praises You, Not [the land of] Death that extols you; Nor do they who descend into the Pit hope for your grace. The living, only the living can give thanks to you.”
Psalms 6:6 “For there is no praise of You among the dead; in Sheol, who can acclaim you?”
Psalms 115:17 “The dead cannot praise the Lord, nor any who go down into silence.”
Job 7:7-10 “Consider that my life is but wind; I shall never see happiness again….As a cloud fades away, so whoever goes down into Sheol does not come up..”
Ecclesiastes 9:4-5 “For he who is reckoned among the living has something to look forward to – even a live dog is better than a dead lion – since the living know that they will die. But the dead know nothing; they have no more recompense, for even the memory of them has died.”

  79. Marianne;
I don’t think the Messianic believers in Yeshua have really addressed the problem with the Noahide laws. I was looking up Jonathan Cahn

    https://heavenawaits.wordpress.com/sabbath-wars/,

because I like his writing and that’s how I cam upon another anti-missionary group.

    Like I posted over in

Goat – Ready to Fly Again

these Lubavitchers are waiting for Rabbi Schneerson to be resurrected.

What’s wrong with the Noahide Laws?

Feedback, please. There are all different sects of Judaism even within one denomination like Orthodox Judaism. There are groups within groups that hate each other. I’ve been in two Orthodox synagogues. You can’t generalize on them.

    http://www.heartofisrael.net/mdl/Noahide_1.htm

In the book of Esther an evil man named Haman created a device (machashabah literally a plan or concept) by which he could put to death the entire race of the Jews… this device was the Pur or casting of Lots from which the Jews today get the name of the holiday of Purim. In the end of the book, his wicked plan is turned back on himself and he and his whole family were annihilated instead of the Jewish people.

This is the Pur of the ultra-Orthodox Rabbinic Jews… a concept by which the entire world can be brought under the domnation and fear of the Rabbis.

Consider this… first the Noahide Laws forbid Idolotry… Rebbinic Judaism defines all forms of Christianity and Messianic Judaism as IDOLOTRY

    R. Moses Maimonides (Rambam) tought in “Idolotry and the Laws of the Nations” that any belief in the Christian Messiah is idolatry and idolatry under the Noachide Laws is a capital offense.

How can we call this a conspiracy? Because 10 times in the last 20 years Chassidic Jews, followers of the false messiah R. Menachem Schneerson have introduced into public law in the United States of America the declaration that:

    “Whereas ethical teachings and values have formed the cornerstone of society since the dawn of civilization and found expression in the Seven Noahide Laws;

Whereas sharing and education represent two pillars of these Laws and of ethical conduct; ”

This nation was founded on the principles of the Judeo-Christian bible… a work which does not in any way shape or form any such “Seven Laws of Noah”

To introduce these laws as Public Law under the guise of recognizing the Lubevitch false messiah as a world educator renowed for teaching morality when in fact the laws he teaches demand the decapitation of both Gentile and Jewish believers in Messiah should be an affront to all free peoples of this world!

You can read the entire Public Law 103-14 here

Here is a Real Audio live debate on the Noahide Laws between Rav Yossef and Rabbi Dak

    What can you do?

    As a believer in Y’shua/Jesus

    1. Speak boldly against this cultic device – tell the world about the lies of the ultra-orthodox antimissionaries and their device to rid the world of believers

    2. Tell your Jewish freinds the truth – show them how this Noahide abomination is not found in scripture and is in fact a device similar to that used by Haman to destroy a whole people. Most Jews are not of this ulta-orthodox sect and will recognise that these hatemongers are not typical Jews. Then share with them how Y’shua died for their sins according to Isaiah 53.

    As a Jew

    1. Speak out against this ultra-orthodox cult like sect of Chassidism

    2. Follow Torah which commands you to love your neighbor as yourself. Not according to the lies of the ultra-orthodox who say you must love only your brother Jew and then only if he is orthodox.

    3. Read the gospel of Matthew in the New Testament and see the teachings of a good Jew named Y’shua/Jesus and consider for yourself who he was and what he did.

As I was surfing the web to see if any Messianic believer had addressed the Noahide Laws, here’s a new anti-missionary group to me:

  80. I know some Orthodox Jews who in Israel who keep Kosher. They have separate sinks, separate dishes, don’t mix milk and meat products to the extent they don’t even allow them in their stomach within three hours. Yet I know of one of their daughters had a Bat Mitzvah. How did they do that? That’s not done in the Orthodox community, especialy in Israel and I never asked.

I think it makes a big difference when you have daughters rather than a lot of sons.

DAUGHTERS OF ZELOPHEHAD: MIDRASH AND AGGADAH
    Discuss
    by Tamar Kadari

The Rabbis rain many praises on the daughters of Zelophehad: they are wise, exegetes and virtuous (BT Bava Batra 119b); they are like the daughters of kings, fine and worthy (Sifrei Zuta 15:32). The midrash declares that all five daughters possessed all these admirable qualities: none was better than the others, and all were equal (Sifrei on Numbers, para. 133).

The women of the wilderness generation repaired the breaches committed by the men. Thus, when the men asked their wives for their gold earrings to make the Golden Calf, the women refused, because they would have nothing to do with this sacrilege. Similarly, with regard to the sin of the spies sent to scout out Erez Israel: the men slandered the land, while the women kept their peace. In contrast with the men who did not want to enter the land and gain possession of it, the daughters of Zelophehad arose to demand a portion in the land (Num. Rabbah 21:10), as the midrash learns from the juxtaposition of the episode of the daughters of Zelophehad with the description of the death of the wilderness generation for the sin of the spies in the preceding verse (Num. 26:65).

I don’t believe in Women ministers, but I do believe in Women teaching the Bible. There is an order to things. I don’t think it’s so much a problem with Women as it is with the Men.

Both Israel and Iran have “Modesty” patrols. In Israel it’s in the Ultra-orthodox community only.

A while back I brought up the subject of a “Get” and obtaining a divorce in Israel. I didn’t have a video to back up what I was trying to explain.

    • No I have heard of this lady before….but I guess I do now.

Men are men….it does not make a difference if it is a church or a shul…..they want to control everything.

I know of Bat Mitzvahs in orthodox shuls…..they complete a preparation similar to the boys…but the girls do not read from the Torah…

  81. Marianne;

Bat Mitzvahs are unusual in Orthodox Synagogues here and I thought is was unheard of in Israel. But just like everything, that can change. If you can’t wear a Tallit or carry a Torah Scroll at the Western Wall, you’re sure not going to be allowed up to the Bima to read the Torah

In Israel, Bat Mitzvahs Where Torah Is Read Remain Rare
    By Allison Kaplan Sommer
“Where are you heading?” a friend asks.
“I’m on my way to pick up Naomi from her bat mitzvah lesson.” I reply. The response is silence and a slightly confused look. “She’s going to read from the Torah at her bat mitzvah and she’s started studying for it. You know, I’m American and all, and I grew up in a Reform synagogue; I read from the Torah at my bat mitzvah and so my daughter is going to do it, too.”
Afterwards, I kick myself for sounding so apologetic, as if my eccentric immigrant ways somehow needed justification in Israel.
Indeed, my daughter Naomi has begun studying for her bat mitzvah. Every week, I shuttle her to and from the home of a friendly cantor who is instructing her in the ways of the Torah. I’m really proud of her. She’s an ambitious girl who participates in two school choirs — and aspires to equal her older brother who impressively chanted his whole portion at his bar mitzvah. She’s not content with a symbolic memorization of a short passage. She’s learning the complex rules of chanting, and she is determined to impress her audience of friends and family, male and female together. And then afterwards, it will be time to proudly celebrate.
In the American Jewish world in which I grew up, such a plan is totally conventional. But here in Israel, it still feels daring. Despite the inroads that the Reform and Conservative movements have made and the slow but steady evolution of feminism within Orthodoxy, a girl standing and chanting from the Torah before a full congregation in a synagogue is still viewed as radically out of the ordinary — an oddity.
To be sure, in secular Israeli society, bat mitzvahs are cause for celebration and do not go unrecognized. But the celebrations usually resemble a more meaningful version of Sweet Sixteen party — a buffet, music, dancing, festivities, speeches, a slideshow. Judaism and spirituality rarely play a role, and the synagogue has nothing to do with it.
This is not the case regarding bar mitzvahs. Even many of the least observant Israeli families insist on their boys having some form of ceremony in a synagogue — not doing so feels as un-Jewish as skipping circumcision.
But while secular Israelis may not view women reading from the Torah as forbidden, they tend to view it as utterly unnecessary. A few organizations, recognizing the need to inject meaning into the rite of passage have stepped into the breach and created bat mitzvah programs designed to inject meaning into the bat mitzvah passage, without involving religious ritual. The most active group, Matan, operates “a value-based program which focuses on providing positive role models for Jewish girls” across Israel, and has successfully marketed the concept abroad as well.
In the Modern Orthodox world in Israel, the tradition of bat mitzvah is now recognized, but how it is marked varies. Some merely throw a party like their non-observant counterparts. In Orthodox feminist circles in Israel, it has slowly become acceptable for girls to read from the Torah — but strictly in an all-women’s setting that is not the synagogue — usually a library or a private home. My niece belongs to the synagogue of the Orthodox feminist pioneer Leah Shakdiel. At her bat mitzvah Shabbat service, when it came time for the Torah reading, the women carried the Torah out of the main synagogue into the library. A few men were allowed inside, behind a mechitza at the back of the room; it was important that there was less of a minyan.
My niece’s ceremonial aliya to the Torah, however, is still an oddity in Orthodox Israel, as my daughter’s will be in the non-Orthodox Israel. How ironic that the experience of a Torah-centered bat mitzvah — which so solidified my Jewish identity and commitment at a young age, and set me on a path that led me to Israel — is such a rare commodity in the Jewish state itself.

    • I agree. The Bat mitzvahs I have been to are less “intellectual” than the bar mitzvahs…even in the USA.

Men have to accept the fact that women are smart and know how to read, just as well as them.

When you get technical about it, there is nothing in the Torah forbidding a woman to read from it. So, for the very “observant,” it would be wise to observe what the Torah teaches, instead of making up their own rules.

A woman is expected to teach her children the Torah. This logically means she has to read it first herself, to see what it says, before she can pass on the information to her children.

  82. Look what I ran across web surfing for the above. I will repeat, I don’t look for these things. I don’t keep up on the politics like I did in the 90’s. Hillary and Bill drove me crazy back then. I know God’s in control now, so I’m not as concerned. Obama is a puppet. But aren’t they all. It’s not about it being a Democrat or Republican problem or issue.

Growing Up, Kagan Tested Boundaries of Her Faith
    By LISA W. FODERARO
    Published: May 12, 2010

Elena Kagan was a star pupil in her Hebrew school on the Upper West Side. So it was not too surprising after she turned 12 that she wanted to mark her coming of age with a bat mitzvah.
The only problem was that the rabbi at her Orthodox synagogue, Shlomo Riskin, had never performed one.

“Elena Kagan felt very strongly that there should be ritual bat mitzvah in the synagogue, no less important than the ritual bar mitzvah,” Rabbi Riskin said, referring to the rite of passage for 13-year-old boys. “This was really the first formal bat mitzvah we had.”

But while Elena, the brainy, self-assured daughter of a lawyer and a schoolteacher, asked to read from the Torah on a Saturday morning, just as the boys did, it was not to be. Instead, her ceremony took place on a Friday night, May 18, 1973, and she read from the Book of Ruth, which she also analyzed in a speech.

Long before she became the first female dean of Harvard Law School and the first woman to serve as solicitor general, Ms. Kagan, now a nominee to the Supreme Court, was questioning and testing the boundaries of another institution: her religion.

    http://www.zimbio.com/Elena+Kagan/articles/4XWIQM1ScqH/Elena+Kagan+Husband+or+Married

CBS News found itself in a sticky spot, as it came under fire for a blog post by conservative activist Ben Domenech that claimed Kagan would be the “first openly gay justice.” CBS initially refused to remove the article, but Domenech did eventually the article, writing: “I have to correct my text here to say that Kagan is apparently still closeted — odd, because her female partner is rather well known in Harvard circles.”

    http://www.examiner.com/political-buzz-in-dallas/obama-s-elena-kagan-isn-t-gay-but-her-lesbian-partner-is-video

And just like that – the question could be asked and answered – if Kagan isn’t gay, what a chance to “clear her name” or if she is gay, be open about it, like well, like Camille Paglia. After all, who wants a secretive, evasive, lying, cowardly phony for Justice of the Supreme Court?

Touting his opinion that it is just as silly to hide one’s gayness as one’s Jewishness, Andrew Sullivan says, “In a free society in the 21st Century, it is not illegitimate to ask. And it is cowardly not to tell.”

There are denials from everyone except – Elena Kagan – yet no one will ask her. This may pose a problem for some senators in Elections 2010.

Does it matter? Well sure, if the question is considered within the context of revelations that Elena Kagan is all for restricting free speech – it matters. Under Kagan’s perfect scenario for restriction of American citizens rights to free speech, would Christians be able to say out loud that homosexuality is a sin? Or would that be “hate speech”?

Would the children of American citizens find that their children were being exposed to lifestyles that they find objectional and taught secular viewpoints whether they approved or not?

Check out these contrasting, then and now, videos regarding homosexuality. Ask yourself how far homosexuality has progressed and how much Kagan would want to help that progress along in her Senate seat with a lifetime tenure? Can we mention the gay marriage case of California coming soon to the Supreme Court.

  83. Meanwhile this is true. As with most things I’ve never been able to word it better than Yeshua- those who exalt themselves will be humbled and those who humble themselves shall be exalted. The beauty of King David is that he actually did merit to have a title and to be the king of Israel. This is the secret of Netzach which is both eternity and win. Yeshua preached round 1 of the importance of Hod which is basically humility. There are 3 sets of double sfirot in Kaballah which can be said to represent the eyes, the arms, and the legs. The eyes are best used together to understand what one sees more fully. Arms can be used individually based on which is better for the job (especially if you’re like me and write with your left and what’s left with your right). But Hod and Netzach come one after the other, increasing each other progressively and synergistically, and if we fall out of balance we get rebuked and have to remind ourselves and get back up again. Meanwhile we should live in the extreme humility of Yeshua, but it would be standing on one leg to forget that he will return with the proudest title of all men, Moshiach ben-David, and will judge the nations.

  84. i do not think a title is a problem for a person that loves GOD heart mind body and soul. one that gives all honor glory and praise to GOD. one who is ever seeking a more personal relationship with JESUS .

rejection is meant: “And they love the place of honor at feasts and the
best seats in the Synagogues, and salutations in the market places, and being called rabbi.” Here Jesus is commenting on their superiority complexes. They have effectively set God aside and put themselves in His place; thus the comments on being humbled and being exalted .

Many times in the Gospels Jesus refers to our earthly fathers as well as our Heavenly Father. If the command to call no one on earth
father were in the strict literal sense, He would not have done so. See Matt. 10:37, 15:4, 19:5, 19:19 and 19:29; also Luke 12:53 and 14:26. Similarly, we would not be commanded to “Honor your father and mother” .

There are 144 occasions in the NT when the title of father is used for someone other than God. It is applied to the patriarchs of Israel,
the fathers of families, to Jewish leaders and to Christian leaders.

  89. I don’t mean to sound rude so forgive me if I do. Are women even supposed to be teaching scripture when men are around? Aren’t women supposed to teach only women and keep quiet in their churches and if they have questions to ask their husbands in private? I did notice men on here. Again if I’m wrong then show me and I apologize if I’m sounding rude. Just a question. Thank you

anyone can teach or share the gospel. Paul addressed women who were deaconneses, elders or had leadership positions in the early church. one was an apostle. some were called laborers in the word.

because men were usually the ones who were educated in the bible, while women stayed home with children, i would say yes, most, and almost all , leaders were men.

however, there were some women who did teach and share the gospel as well. they were educated women and had the understanding necessary to do this.

women were to teach women and children because that was their cultural duty. men were to teach men. this is a jewish concept of dividing the men and women during services, so people could focus on their prayers and learning, and not be distracted by the opposite sex. also jewish women who did know the bible were instructed to teach the gentile women.

gentile women , especially uneducated, then were not to interrupt the men’s service to ask about something they heard. this would be considered rude. while jewish women were already accustomed to this way of doing things, newly converted gentile women did not know any better, and would have to learn how to behave in a synagogue atmosphere.

the scripture you are referring to is in corinthians, which is a letter to a gentile church

1Cr 14:35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

      explanation is here:

      Paul and the Mechitza

while men have a naturally given male authority in the church and synagogue, as man was put in authority over the woman in eden, it does not preclude women from also sharing the word of god.

if you recall, when the samaritan woman at the well first met messiah, and ran to spread the news to her village. so she was one of the first evangelists 🙂

  90. What a great and concise way to decipher those titles. Thank you, that was my point of view but I always like to seek information about my questions in order to have better understanding . Blessings in Yeshua our only Master and Savior and all the rest of titles. He alone deserves all the glory.
