Good and Bad Covenants for Israel

Approved: God’s covenant with Israel

Exodus 34

10 And he said, Behold, I make a covenant: before all thy people I will do marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation: and all the people among which thou art shall see the work of the Lord: for it is a terrible thing that I will do with thee.

11 Observe thou that which I command thee this day: behold, I drive out before thee the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

Not approved: Israel’s covenant with other inhabitants of the land

12 Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee:

15 Lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go a whoring after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and one call thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice;

**Note: the inhabitants are now called Palestinians, but their nature has not changed since ancient times.

What God told Israel to do instead: destroy their idols

13 But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves:

14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

Point:

In modern times, Israel has been pressured consistently to form a covenant with its enemies, and make concessions that God would disapprove of.

–

Satan’s plan is to force Israel to disobey God’s commandment given in Exodus 34.

–

Satan knows that Israel is blessed when it obeys.

And Satan knows that Israel is cursed when it disobeys.

So the plan is to get Israel to bring a curse upon itself.

This leaves Israel defenseless in case of attack.

–

Since Israel is not allowed to make covenants with the inhabitants of the land, who are now called Palestinians, any covenant formed with them will open Israel to punishment from God for disobedience.

This also removes God’s protection against enemies, if Israel disobeys God.

Israel’s options

1..   Form an eventual covenant with Palestinians or any other group, trying to appease the nations of the world, and bring a curse on itself.

2..   Refuse to agree to covenant being imposed on it. This will bring disapproval of, and attack by, the hostile nations, but God’s protection.

Since the nations of the world intend to turn against Israel anyhow, as predicted in scripture, it is best for Israel to choose Option #2.

–

May God inspire Israel to stay on the right path, and put its faith ONLY in HIM.

–

And may true believers of the Word pray for Israel to make the right decision, and support Israel in its time of need.

–
