Prophecy in Revelation:
Revelation 6: 5-6: “When He opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, ‘Come and see.’ So I looked, and behold, a black horse, and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. And I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, ‘A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not harm the oil and the wine.'”
God says the source of famine and disease is a curse for disobedience
In Deuteronomy 28 God details the horror of a people stricken with the curse of famine.
Deu 28:15¶ But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:
Deu 28:16 Cursed [shalt] thou [be] in the city, and cursed [shalt] thou [be] in the field.
Deu 28:18 Cursed [shall be] the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy land, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.
Deu 28:24 The LORD shall make the rain of thy land powder and dust: from heaven shall it come down upon thee, until thou be destroyed.
Situation in Africa and other countries
The six southern African countries of Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Swaziland and Mozambique currently suffer from large food shortages and will need help for months to come. Prolonged drought and bad farming practices have contributed to the problem.
But more recently another factor is having a growing impact on the ability of these countries to feed them selves: A large number of agricultural workers are infected with or have died from AIDS.
About 25 percent of the adult population of these countries now is infected with the virus. As more adults succumb to this plague, fewer people are left to plant and harvest the crops. Worse yet, as the adult community dies, the knowledge needed for growing food for survival is not passed on to the younger generation. Consequently, the society loses its ability to produce food—even if weather and soil conditions were optimal.
***Note: this is not to single out certain countries or peoples. Because, according to prophecy, what is seen in certain areas will eventually spread to other nations, so that all are included.

THE world is only ten weeks away from running out of wheat supplies after stocks fell to their lowest levels for 50 years.
The crisis has pushed prices to an all-time high and could lead to further hikes in the price of bread, beer, biscuits and other basic foods.
It could also exacerbate serious food shortages in developing countries especially in Africa.
The crisis comes after two successive years of disastrous wheat harvests, which saw production fall from 624m to 600m tons, according to the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
Experts blame climate change as heat waves caused a slump in harvests last year in eastern Europe, Canada, Morocco and Australia, all big wheat producers.
Booming populations and a switch to a meat-rich diet in the developing world also mean that about 110m tons of the world’s annual wheat crop is being diverted to feed livestock.

So what do we do about all this?
Spiritual:
1. Repent of our sins and turn back to God
2. Repent for our nations and leadership
3. Trust in God, not man, for provision – obedience to his commandments is enough, and submission to the heart of Jesus, and acceptance of salvation through the cross of Christ.
4. Acknowledge that even money is an idol before God. Do not seek money for provision, seek the God of provision with meekness and humbleness of heart. Do not listen to prosperity preachers either, who want you to “sow” your money so you can be rich. That is nonsense. That is a different topic.
5. Recall that Jesus said, to look at the birds of the sky and the lilies of the field. They neither sow nor reap, yet God provides for them. God provides out of his love, and because we respect God, and his commandments, and leave our sins behind us.
6. Seek first the righteousness of God, and what you need will be given to you. I am not saying this without living it myself. God has been providing for me my entire life, yet, in the eyes of the world, it seemed like I should have fallen many years ago. I can live on “nothing,” as compared to others, who think they need 10x more than I have.
7. Know that prosperity is NOT having money and many things. It is God providing for you when you have nothing. When God provides, you do not need money or things. They will come to you in some way.
8. Support Israel: its people and its land. God has promised to bless those that bless Israel, and curse those that curse and harm Israel. Israel is the key to blessing for the world.
9. Pray for guidance.
Physical:
1. Do as Joseph, son of Jacob, did. He saved during times of plenty for times of famine. Be resourceful. Save, and do not waste.
2. Plant more now. Plant where you have not planted before. Fill the land.
3. Store grain in dry form to be used later.
4. Drill for water as you drill for oil. Treat water as a top priority. There may not be rain, but there is water underground, if you go deep enough.
5. Share what you have. Someone may have what you don’t, and you can trade, thus benefiting each other.
6. Avoid wars. Bombs kill people, and destroy land. Nuclear weapons contaminate the soil.
7. Drill for oil, so you do not convert needed food into biofuels. Biofuels sound good, but you waste too much food, and you do not get enough fuel out of it to make it worth while. Drill carefully, and do not disturb the environment.
8. For those who cannot do anything but survive at home, you can freeze your bread, and other food, and store it up. Double bag it to prevent freezer burn. Get a freezer and put a good supply in it until a better time comes.
9. Learn to substitute. If you have no bread, use potatoes. Be resourceful. God will provide something for you.

Note: There have been famines before. We have to wait until we see a continued pattern into next year before confirming that this is the third seal opening. Also, the first horse (seal)- white- seems to have gone out – conquest in the name of peace (Islam), and the second horse (seal) – red for war- is uncertain, since we have always had wars…there should be something more exceptional than what we see now. If the red horse has not gone out, then it is not time for the third one yet, which is famine.
If the black horse had gone out already, the price of wheat would be a days’ wage, which is not true yet. (a quart of wheat for a denarius)

CREDIT CRISIS PROMOTES WORLD FAMINE

While many people are aware that stock and commodity markets are crashing all over the world due to the break-down in global credit markets, few have likely considered the impact this crisis has on food shipments. I wasn’t aware of the connection myself until an alert reader of my website sent me the link below.
It cites one industry source as saying that all kinds of food shipments are “stacked up on docks right now that can’t be shipped because people can’t get letters of credit.” Food shipments are reportedly piling up in ports in the USA and South America because foreign buyers can’t get credit guarantees that producers will get paid.
Canadian ports may soon experience the same phenomenon. Obviously, food can spoil or be eaten by rodents if shipments are stopped for a considerable length of time. The link also gives an insight into the degree of contraction in the US economy as it notes that imports have fallen by 9% at the busy ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
Revelation 6:5-6 prophesies that famines will characterize the latter day period before Jesus Christ’s return. This link reminds us that these prophesied famines can occur due to global financial traumas well as natural disasters, crop viruses, bee shortages, etc.
If the financial crisis continues, the people who were expecting to be on the receiving end of those stalled food shipments will begin to go hungry before long.

The food shortages is not only due to drought. Southern Africa had very good rainfall these past two years. A bigger factor is African goverments and leaders like Robert Mogabe’s land grab policy and the murdering of white farmers in Zimbabwe and South Afica in what they call the ethnic cleansing process. Slogens like “Kill the boer, kill the farmer” and “One settler one bullet” is heard from ANC leaders everywhere. Farmers are burned with hot irons and boiling water, stabbed with knives and wives are raped and shot. The bigger reason for food shortages at the present moment in Southern Africa is because of the sinking moral values causing social decline and is therefore self induced.

WASHINGTON – From India to Africa to North Korea to Pakistan and even in New York City, higher grain prices, fertilizer shortages and rising energy costs are combining to spell hunger for millions in what is being characterized as a global “silent famine.”
Global food prices, based on United Nations records, rose 35 percent in the last year, escalating a trend that began in 2002. Since then, prices have risen 65 percent.
Last year, according to the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization’ s world food index, dairy prices rose nearly 80 percent and grain 42 percent.
“This is the new face of hunger,” said Josetta Sheeran, director of the World Food Program, launching an appeal for an extra $500 million so it could continue supplying food aid to 73 million hungry people this year. “People are simply being priced out of food markets. … We have never before had a situation where aggressive rises in food prices keep pricing our operations out of our reach.”

The WFP launched a public appeal weeks ago because the price of the food it buys to feed some of the world’s poorest people had risen by 55 percent since last June. By the time the appeal began last week, prices had risen a further 20 percent. That means WFP needs $700 million to bridge the gap between last year’s budget and this year’s prices. The numbers are expected to continue to rise.
The crisis is widespread and the result of numerous causes – a kind of “perfect storm” leading to panic in many places:
• In Thailand, farmers are sleeping in their fields because thieves are stealing rice, now worth $600 a ton, right out of the paddies.
• Four people were killed in Egypt in riots over subsidized flour that was being sold for profit on the black market.
• There have been food riots in Morocco, Senegal and Cameroon.
• Mexico’s government is considering lifting a ban on genetically modified crops, to allow its farmers to compete with the United States.
• Argentina, Kazakhstan and China have imposed restrictions to limit grain exports and keep more of their food at home.
• Vietnam and India, both major rice exporters, have announced further restrictions on overseas sales.
• Violent food protests hit Burkina Faso in February.
• Protesters rallied in Indonesia recently, and media reported deaths by starvation.
• In the Philippines, fast-food chains were urged to cut rice portions to counter a surge in prices.
• Millions of people in India face starvation after a plague of rats overruns a region, as they do cyclically every 50 years.
• Officials in Bangladesh warn of an emerging “silent famine” that threatens to ravage the region.
According to some experts, the worst damage is being done by government mandates and subsidies for “biofuels” that supposedly reduce carbon dioxide emissions and fight climate change. Thirty percent of this year’s U.S. grain harvest will go to ethanol distilleries. The European Union, meanwhile, has set a goal of 10 percent bio-fuels for all transportation needs by 2010.
“A huge amount of the world’s farmland is being diverted to feed cars, not people,” writes Gwynne Dyer, a London-based independent journalist.
He notes that in six of the past seven years the human race has consumed more grain than it grew. World grain reserves last year were only 57 days, down from 180 days a decade ago.
One in four bushels of corn from this year’s U.S. crop will be diverted to make ethanol, according to estimates.
“Turning food into fuel for cars is a major mistake on many fronts,” said Janet Larsen, director of research at the Earth Policy Institute, an environmental group based in Washington. “One, we’re already seeing higher food prices in the American supermarket. Two, perhaps more serious from a global perspective, we’re seeing higher food prices in developing countries where it’s escalated as far as people rioting in the streets.”
Palm oil is also at record prices because of biofuel demands. This has created shortages in Indonesia and Malaysia, where it is a staple.
Nevertheless, despite the recognition that the biofuels industry is adding to a global food crisis, the ethanol industry is popular in the U.S. where farmers enjoy subsidies for the corn crops.
Another contributing factor to the crisis is the demand for more meat in an increasingly prosperous Asia. More grain is used to feed the livestock than is required to feed humans directly in a traditional grain-based diet.
Bad weather is another problem driving the world’s wheat stocks to a 30-year low – along with regional droughts and a declining dollar.
“This is an additional setback for the world economy, at a time when we are already going through major turbulence,” Angel Gurria, head of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, told Reuters. “But the biggest drama is the impact of higher food prices on the poor.”
According to the organization, as well as the U.N., the price of corn could rise 27 percent in the next decade.
John Bruton, the European Union’s ambassador to the U.S., predicts the current trend is the beginning of a 10-15 year rise in food costs worldwide.
The rodent plague in India occurs about every half century following the heavy flowering of a local species of bamboo, providing the rodents with a feast of high-protein foliage. Once the rats have ravaged the bamboo, they turn on the crops, consuming hundreds of tons of rice and corn supplies.
Survivors of the previous mautam, which heralded widespread famine in 1958, say they remember areas of paddy fields the size of four soccer fields being devastated overnight.
In Africa, rats are seen as part of the answer to the food shortage. According to Africa News, Karamojongs have resorted to hunting wild rats for survival as famine strikes the area.
Supplies of fertilizer are extremely tight on the worldwide market, contributing to a potential disaster scenario. The Scotsman reports there are virtually no stocks of ammonium nitrate in the United Kingdom.
Global nitrogen is currently in deficit, a situation that is unlikely to change for at least three years, the paper reports.
South Koreans are speculating, as they do annually, on how many North Koreans will starve to death before the fall harvest. But this year promises to be worse than usual.
Severe crop failure in the North and surging global prices for food will mean millions of hungry Koreans.
Roughly a third of children and mothers are malnourished, according to a recent U.N. study. The average 8-year-old in the North is 7 inches shorter and 20 pounds lighter than a South Korean child of the same age.
Floods last August ruined part of the main yearly harvest, creating a 25-percent shortfall in the food supply and putting 6 million people in need, according to the U.N. World Food Program.
Yesterday, the Hong Kong government tried to put a stop to panic-buying of rice in the city of 6.9 million as fears mounted over escalating prices and a global rice shortage. Shop shelves were being cleared of rice stocks as Hong Kong people reacted to news that the price of rice imported from Thailand had shot up by almost a third in the past week, according to agency reports.
Global food prices are even hitting home in New York City, according to a report in the Daily News. Food pantries and soup kitchens in the city are desperately low on staples for the area’s poor and homeless.
The Food Bank for New York City, which supplies food to 1,000 agencies and 1.3 million people, calls it the worst problem since its founding 25 years ago.
Last year, the Food Bank received 17 million pounds of food through the Emergency Food Assistance Program, less than half of the 35 million pounds it received in 2002. And donations from individuals and corporations are also down about 50 percent, according to the report.
High gas prices, increased food production costs and a move to foreign production of American food are contributing to the problem.

According to the United Nations, global food prices rose 35 percent in the last year. Since the new year prices have continued to rise. This year corn prices have hit a 12-year high and the price of wheat has jumped almost 90 percent.
Likewise, in just the past few weeks the cost of rice has gone from $580 a ton to $760 a ton. Rice is the staple food for more than three billion people around the world. Most of these live in poorer nations, and some already spend 50 to 70 percent of their incomes on food.
Experts are describing the problem as “the perfect storm.” Its cause is said to be a combination of various factors: Growing populations means growing demand.
Also, the growing middle class in places like China means growing demand for more varieties of food. For example, the demand for beef has increased in China, which in turn effects the price of corn and other crops used to feed cattle.
Unusual weather conditions and drought have also been a factor. In Australia prolonged drought has reduced wheat exports by half and the rice crop this year will be the smallest in history.
In Bangladesh a cyclone last summer destroyed 600 million dollars worth of its rice crop. Events such as these have decreased the overall food supply.
Rising oil prices have also had caused food prices to rise. Oil prices effect not only the cost of transporting food, but also the cost of fertilizers which are made with oil-derivatives.
Government mandates and subsidies for biofuels have also had an impact. In the US it is estimated that almost thirty percent of the grain harvest is being diverted to make ethanol. Likewise, the European Union plans to start producing enough biofuels to meet at least 10 percent of its transportation needs by 2010.

Let there be no doubt famine on a global scale is near. Stem-rust has destroyed wheat crops in Asia, Europe, Middle East, and Africa. The recent floods in the Corn-Belt or U.S. Midwest has decimated millions of acres. Rice is in short supply in global markets. The United States Strategic Grain Reserve created to hold enough grain for 3 years for every American is now but empty, only yielding enough grain for a 1/2 loaf of bread for 300 million Americans. The famine during the time of Joseph was but in its second of seven years when all money was exhausted to buy grain. Egyptians and surrounding nations sold their cattle, land, and even themselves as servants to Pharoah within this time period. We are soon entering this time, for the things of old foreshadow what is to come, they are but a window to the plan of God for an unrepentant World. Remember well the words of the Apostle John declaring that when the Spirit of Truth has come, he will lead us unto all truth and show us things yet to come, for this same Spirit does abide in every believer that we be not deceived.

Good post Silvanus. I would think inflation, then hyper inflation before famine.
Peak oil, war, and crop diseases such as rust are all certainly things that will make food more scarce and expensive. Many people look at global warming as being disastrous, but few think about the calamity that global cooling would bring. A large volcano erupting, nuclear war, decreased sunspot activity from the sun could put a chill on global agriculture. Is the reference in Job 38:22-23 for the End Times? Paraphrasing Mark Twain- “It is not what we don’t know that gets us in trouble it is what we thought to be for certain that just ain’ so.” So the whole world is focused on the potential problem of global warming, Christians for the most part are focused on things of the world being burnt up (and they will, but later, and likely after a period of global cooling). The sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light- logic says we should be preparing for a period of cold. Think about how much of the US food supply is dependant on corn. Corn is a warm weather crop. A drop in temperature similar to the dark ages would mean disaster.

That is an interesting thought.
Most Christians assume the sun and moon going dark is just a supernatural sign, with no earthly consequences.
But, as you say, no light, and no heat,coming from the sun would chill everything, and nothing would grow, depending on how long this situation lasted.
This is the 6th seal, which happens after the famine period, not before it.
then the 7th seal of silence in heaven followed by the 7 trumpets.
1st trumpet – hail and fire, and a 1/3 of trees burn up
so whatever effects the dark sun and moon have it is temporary.
but then, it is not clear how long each event lasts…so there could be some suffering before the 1st trumpet….
I am with you on sequence. My thught was that global cooling would cause famine and food to get real expensive and that the famine contiues thru opening of the 4th seal where it is mentioned that a quarter of the earth is killed thru sword, famine, and plague. The sixth seal is where things get really ugly and where I speculate that things will get very very cold as the sun’s radiation is blocked out. If it lasted long it could get iceage kind of cold. My thought is that if the Lord is going to let things get really cold, that he would do it progressively so that some people would be able to make adaptations and preparations to survive a bit longer. Like you, I think that there could be significant periods of time between seals. I always wondered if the U.S. war on terror was the opening of the first seal. I also wonder whether a country to the east of Israel getting a great sword (Maybe a nuclear bomb) would be the opening of the second seal. Time between seals could be days, years, decades, or longer. Its only with certain phophecies taking place that a countdown clock could be started. I am by know means a bible schoolar. Just some thoughts on the 3rd seal and one possibility for what could cause famine.

Well, we do not have to wait for global cooling for it to be cool.
Last night it was 15 F (-9C) and today it is not much warmer. A friend in Canada said her night was – 13 C.
So we can have the bad weather right now.

Argentina is suffering its worst drought in decades and the cattle are dying by the barnload. Since October, the drought has taken down 1.5 million of the animals, according to an estimate by the Argentine Rural Society, in a country that last year sent 13.5 million to slaughter. The cattle for the most part are dying of hunger, as the dry skies have shriveled up their pastures, along with huge swaths of Argentina’s important soy, corn and wheat fields.

The grievous consequences of drought and global warming are more visible and dangerous in Australia than in any other industrialized nation.
Wildfires last month killed 210 people in Victoria. The country’s greatest wetland, the Coorong near Adelaide, is drying up. And as it does, the sulfur in the exposed bottomlands mixes with oxygen in the air to form sulfuric acid mud that is killing aquatic life.
Forests of Red Gum trees, hearty sentinels of Australia’s arid landscape, are dying. And crops across southeast Australia’s Murray-Darling Basin, one of the planet’s most productive food growing regions, are failing. Once prosperous rural cities are in decline, and suicides in farm families occur at a rate twice the national average.

China Faces Worst Drought In 50 Years
GONGYI, China — The flowers that welcome visitors to the town of Gongyi in China’s Henan province have seen better days. The stems that spell out the greeting message are withered and parched, the surrounding grass bleached yellow from lack of water.
China’s worst drought in 50 years is taking a heavy toll here. It hasn’t rained in nearby Yaoling village for more than 100 days. Even the government’s efforts to fire cloud-seeding rockets into the sky that brought minor relief to much of the province haven’t worked here.
Xi Guo Jun, a farmer from the village, runs his hands through his hair in exasperation. “All of our wheat has dried out and is dying. If it doesn’t rain soon, the harvest will fail entirely and we won’t have enough to eat,” he says.
The village’s 3,000 residents are entirely dependent on rainfall to grow wheat and rapeseed. The ground is too high to sink a well, and too far from the Yellow River’s irrigation channels that water fields below. While the wheat can still be saved if rain comes, the rapeseed crop has been lost entirely.
“Some families don’t even have enough to drink. I have parents, a wife and a daughter to feed,” Xi spits in disgust. “How am I supposed to do that with no wheat?”
Unlike many farmers in the province, Yaoling has little or no wheat in reserve. As such, Vice Minister of Agriculture Wei Chao’an’s recent assertion that the government’s $57 million relief aid is working gets short shrift in Yaoling. “We’ve asked the government for a pump to get water in from outside but they won’t give it to us because we’ve been given the accolade of living in a ‘rich and healthy village’. We don’t feel too rich or healthy right now,” says 40-year-old farmer He Hong Pu.
Henan province, which produces around a quarter of China’s wheat, is taking the brunt of the drought’s impact. According to provincial government estimates, 43.5 million metric tons of wheat have been affected. Across the country, around 4.3 million people and two million head of livestock face drinking water shortages.

Drought bad for wheat

“Terrible.”
That was the word OSU Extension Agent Dana Bay used to describe current wheat conditions in the area, all caused by lack of rain.
‘’We’re very dry,” Bay said. “The wheat crop is terrible. If we don’t get rain soon, there won’t be much grain production.”
Bay said wheat is now at a critical stage known as hollow stem. Hollow stem occurs when the developing head is still below the soil surface. Rain is critical to further growth.
‘’The wheat is very drought stressed at this time,” Bay said. “We need a good soaking rain to come pretty quickly.”
Oklahoma Secretary of Agriculture Terry Peach described the situation as “fighting to survive” in an address on his website. He also described the outcome of lack of rain as an economic disaster.
In a phone interview Friday, he said, “In a good year, the state averages 140 million bushels of production. Without rain in the next 10 days, it could drop to the 70 million to 80 million range.”

What started out as a heavy weekend storm in the Southeast ended up as record flooding in Tennessee this week–killing at least 19 people, destroying roads and property, and driving President Obama to declare parts of the state major disaster areas.
The rain, of course, didn’t spare Nashville or its music community. Most notably, the legendary country landmark the Grand Ole Opry House is currently under six feet of water, with as-yet-unknown damage to its historic collections. The overall cost of damages to the city is estimated to exceed $1 billion, according to Nashville mayor Karl Dean.

Russia Spent 120 Million Rubles to Protect Grains From Locusts

Russia spent 120 million rubles ($4.3 million) to fight locusts this year and protect crops, the Agriculture Ministry said.
The money was used to spray the insects on 760,000 hectares (1.88 million acres) of land, the ministry said today on its website. Some 8.6 million hectares were inspected and locusts were found to have landed on 2.2 million hectares.
The ministry estimated the potential damage to be as much as 50 billion rubles.
“Grains did not suffer in Russia,” Agriculture Minister Yelena Skrynnik said on the department’s website.
Locust incidents rose significantly in Dagestan, Kalmykia, Astrakhan, Saratov and other southern regions this year as a result of last year’s drought and a relatively warm winter, Interfax cited Skrynnik as saying in Kalmykia earlier today. Locusts’ peak seasons occur once every 10 years, and the last took place in 2001, Interfax cited Skrynnik as saying.

Famine is next by my calculations. Pretty soon the US is going to have to lop off a couple of zero’s of our money like turkey did a couple of years ago. what was one dollar, is now ten, or heaven forbid a hundred. Think of what this will do to those who have saved up a nest egg to live on in their old age. When I was a kid, you could go into the store and get change back, and some of those coins were made of silver. A silver dollar coin is now worth thirty dollars. that is a thirty fold devaluation of our dollar in my life time. That value does not even take into consideration the restrictions and regulations the Gov’t has placed on gold and silver trading which have kept the value low, as it is in their best interest to keep it low. (makes them look like they are doing a good job handling the economy.) In the past year they have done this three times. Each time silver drops about 10-20%, while gold drops slightly or remains flat only to come back up again. There is definately something going on that they do not want us to know, But the inevitable result is famine.
The best solution in my opinion is to learn survival skills. If your in warm climates, there is “food” all around you, year round, if you know what to look for, and in colder climates…Learn to hunt and can. If you are in cities… buy some good walking shoes and make friends with someone in the country or go learn from the homeless. And by all means learn how to grow your own food.(Old hand farming tools are good to have around) Find ways to heat your house without utilities (fireplaces), etc, and source of water that is not utility dependent. (most wells require pumps, city water requires money)… (rain catchers might be a good one, You can use to water plants till you need for drinking)
Having a little silver or gold could help also, but if it gets to the point the bible talks of then a bag of it will only get you a piece of bread, it will be irrelavent. Your better off laying your treasures in heaven!!
The most important thing though, is to trust God and help those around you when the excrement hits the fan. If you just rely on food storage, once your Hungry loved ones find out about it, it will be gone in no time, Let alone the pillage factor. Learn how to teach others to survive. who knows, even if things stay “normal”, you may still need those skills someday.!

I think the hardest part, and maybe the most crucial.
A famine does not have to last long to kill people. Many would die the first month. By 2-3 months of no food at all, most would be dead.
With no power, or water, it seems like the only solution is to store bottled water.
Although one would have to have a place to put it all. Need to dedicate a room or a garage, I guess.
A week without water, we would all be dead.

Most people can last 30 to 40 days w/o food. that is zero food about 3-4 days w/o water depending on heat. Most people however have some food in their house, and drinks. and most people are resourcful enough when faced with hunger to figure out what to eat. I think most households could make it 6-8 months on what is there. This also assuming a “sudden” turn of events. If it is gradual, we will still be able to get some commodities for short whiles. In other words, the cows are not going to stop giving milk, and the farms will still grow wheat, but if the dollar collapses totally, no one will know how to pay for them, or have any real goods of value to barter for the foods out there.
yes i was wondering if theirs any thing new on hand for augs 2011 theirs been a lot going on with are food pricing i live in queen creek Arizona and the food seems to have gone up like flour around a year ago i could fine sugar flour on sale for 1.99 know you cant it for that that thy say because of gas and weather problems i found a sell on flour for 1.99 but not-hen left on the sleeves can veg use to be 3/1.oo not any more thy say food cost will rise about 4% this year but the problem is thy never go down

As history proves, prices only go up, not down. So if you can stock up on certain items, that will help you in the future. The dollar is supposed to be completely dead by the end of 2012, so buy now while your money still has value.

Even for those who can prepare, there is no way we can prepare for the rest of our lives….no one can be “Walmart” with all their supplies.
God will protect those who call upon him for help. Jesus knows who belongs to him.
He will provide supernaturally for his own people, just like God did in the wilderness….he sent manna from heaven…..and with Elijah…he sent birds with food to feed him.
Just trust in Jesus….we can only do what we can….and we have to depend on God for the rest of what we need.
i live with a friend i call sister her husband and disabled son i also am on ssi only get 450 pay my share her husband was working 40 hours a week got his hours cut works 14 hours a week some times 20 hours so we don’t live on food stamps we go shopping with every little but though Christ we eat all week plus pay are bills i know theirs a god we don’t eat perfect i am a diabetic and have heart failure so through Christ i am a live we don’t eat three times a day but at least 4 times a week others get we are last to eat we eat to me that’s good theirs a lot on the streets and other country’s that wish thy had what little we have we live in a low income house but just making it that’s all i ever ask from god don’t ask for much just his love and forgiveness witch i am far from that but i keep studying and praying to be found worthy by his grace god bless you and your works for god

Your income is very low. Is there any crisis centers near you,….churches or community centers that give out extra food? I know there are some in my area. Maybe ask a social worker about these extra food places. You have my prayers. You need to eat better.
yes we due go to food banks i had people we didn’t no knock on are door with food boxes god is my provider and my main doctor look upon him for what i cant get what i don’t have don’t need god helps those who cant help them self’s god knows all are needs before we even ask him his word is filling its helped me come from 309 pounds to 199 and fill better then i have in many years this is going to be in my words i don’t have my bible her at the moment Jesus told his disciples not to worrie about there shoes or food it was because he would provide for them its been this way for over seven months and hes done wonders for us

I believe it was quite enlightened of you to provide this link in context to the threat of famine. Though the price of people’s needs were once controlled by the simple issues of supply and demand, these days they are driven by the uncontrolled mechanisms of capitalistic greed.
Because our governments refuse to act to rein in the futures market, vast quantities of resources can be cornered by greedy investors and investment firms, effectively placing dozens if not hundreds of unwanted and unneeded “middlemen” between the producer and the consumer. Thus famines can be caused not just by a shortage of food, but by food being priced beyond the ability of our poor to purchase enough to feed themselves and their children.
Such unmitigated and unregulated capitalism is evil. When our children are starving, these capitalistic demons will be deposed. The wealthy that have extracted their riches by inflicting such suffering to the poor have never been welcome in heaven and they never will.
