Messiah Pays For Our Sins

The cross precedes the crown.

The Jews are waiting for hero (Moshiach) to come and establish God’s kingdom on earth.

Everything of value comes at a price.

God’s grace is not cheap.

One cannot just be a good Jew, and be qualified to be Moshiach.

Moshiach has to establish himself as worthy of the title and position.

He has to have given himself over to the will of God, established a pattern of righteous, holy, and selfless living.

This pattern of dedication and holiness is described in scripture.

While it is not customary for God to require one person to pay for the sins of another, there is an exception made in the case of the “Righteous Servant” of Isaiah 53.

I believe Daniel 9 identifies the Moshiach (Messiah) with the Righteous Servant in Isaiah 53.

Daniel 9- the only place in the Tenach where the Moshiach is mentioned by title.

24 Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to make an end of sin, to make atonement for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy place.

***note to make atonement for iniquity is a huge task.

25 So you are to know and discern that from the issuing of a decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; it will be built again, with plaza and moat, even in times of distress.

***notes

decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem – 445 BCE /457 BCE (Artaxerxes)

http://creation.com/darius-is-artaxerxes

7weeks + 62 weeks= 69 weeks = 7 x 69 = 483 years

Artaxerxes (ruled years 445/ 457) + 483 years = 38/26 CE, time of Yashua

26 And after threescore and two weeks (62 weeks) shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

***note: he is killed (cut off), not for himself, but for others)

This happened about 30 CE

Isaiah describes how and why he was “cut off.”

Isaiah 53 _ Israel failed, Messiah succeeds as the righteous servant

53 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?

2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he opens not his mouth.

8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.

9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand.

11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

_

There is only one person in history who has made this self sacrifice. His name is Jesus / Yashua.

He promised to return and finish his work, and establish peace on earth.

I believe him…..

Someone who would give his own life for me…….

YES, YES, YES, he is worthy to be believed!

Come Messiah Jesus / Yashua, come!

  3. Marianne – Sometimes when I read one of your posts, inside I feel like an elevator going, “clunk, clunk, clunk” as if inside I’m dropping down floor after floor, level after level. This is one of those posts.

The cross precedes the crown. “Despised and rejected, … pierced for our transgressions, … crushed for our iniquities, … it was the will of the Lord to crush him.” What hard and horrific things to hear!

And He was made fun of for doing so!

Mat 27 “40 Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save Thyself. If Thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross. 41 Likewise also the chief priests mocking Him, with the scribes and elders, said, 42 He saved others; Himself He cannot save. If He be the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him” (KJV)

The cross precedes the crown. But, Jesus understood this, did He not?

In response to all the cruel taunting, ridicule and mocking that if He was the Son of God why did He not appeal for Divine Intervention, Jesus cries out the beginning of Psalm 22:

“Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Mat 27:46 KJV)

Did Jesus do this for their sake or for His? Was He really, for that moment, separate from God? Was this the transfer of the cross to the crown?

    • denise

I understand what you mean. I started this post out as a witnessing tool for jews, to help explain the messianic prophesies, so they would understand and realize what was never explained to t hem.

but as I searched for an image, the “cross precedes the crown” just said it all.

      then I also learned a lesson…..

so many have this idea that being messiah is a “status” or power position, and being a follower is just as status and power oriented. I have to teach a lot of people about their authority in jesus because they are so defeated.

many pastors are power and miracle oriented as well. people are not given the balanced picture, and seek blessings and prosperity

the title comes at a very high price.

we hear the WWJD expression from trendy christians, but how many of us would do what Jesus really did?

      I couldn’t….

as I wrote, the pain started to get to me, the sorrow, the remorse over putting Jesus through all that…the shame of not being who I should have been most of my life,….deep gratitude filled me that he would look past all that error and die for me anyhow.

I hope the sinking feeling, “oh dear, what have I done” comes over many people who read this, who will feel the pain of what they have done to jesus in his agony, that they contributed to his pain…and suffering.

it is this kind of conversion that Jesus wants…..not a 2 minute prayer and a church membership card.

the Lord once told me about 20 years ago, that I wanted to feel his joy, but I did not want to feel his pain…..that crushed me, and I fell to my knees in sorrow for being so shallow.

with the tribulation at our doorsteps, only the true sorrow for sins will work, and only the real love and gratitude that comes afterwards will save a person, and help him endure to the end.

  4. Well, I am not Jewish. Some might even say I am not Christian as I do not belong to nor follow any particular Christian sect. I’ve had a close personal relationship with Christ since age 3.

On one of the rare occasions we went to church as a family, I cried at the Eucharist not understanding anything, only that the minister was saying Jesus was dead and I knew He was not.

The pain is as deep as the marrow in my bones which is the depth of my gratitude, and beyond.

    • 8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.

9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.

10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

  5. Typo? ‘This happened about 30 BCE’ should be CE?

  6. Amen, come Lord Jesus”

  7. AFTER IT ALL, even now. . . SO MUCH CRUEL UNDESERVED REJECTION . . .

LAST WORDS OF OUR LOVING SAVIOR
    Luke 23:34
Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”

THE ONES WHO FELT THEY WERE THE RIGHTEOUS OF THE DAY (CHURCH LEADERS ‘THE CHOSEN FEW’ AND SPOKESMEN OF TRUTH),

The Jewish high priests and elders of the Sanhedren [rejection] accused Jesus of blasephemy, arriving at the decision to put Him to death [rejection] . But first
they needed Rome to approve of their death sentence[rejection] , so Jesus was taken to Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor in Judea. Although Pilate found
Him innocent, unable to find or even contrive a reason to condemn Jesus, he feared the crowds, letting them decide Jesus’ fate [rejection] . Stirred by the Jewish
chief priests rejection, the crowds declared, “Crucify Him!” Total rejection and humiliation.
As was common, Jesus was publicly scourged, or beaten, with a leather-thonged whip before His crucifixion [rejection] . Tiny pieces of iron and bone chips were
tied to the ends of each leather thong, causing deep cuts and painful bruises rejection. He was mocked, struck in the head with a staff and spit on rejection .
A prickly grueling crown of thorns was placed on His head and He was stripped naked and abused rejection. Too weak to carry His cross, Simon of Cyrene was
forced to carry it for Him.
He was led to Golgatha where He would be crucified rejection. As was the custom, before they nailed Him to the cross, a mixture of vinegar, gall, and myrrh was
offered. This drink was said to alleviate some of the suffering, but Jesus refused to drink it. Stake-like nails were driven through His wrists and ankles [rejection] ,
fastening Him to the cross where He was crucified between two convicted criminals [rejection] .
The inscription above his head tauntingly read, “The King of the Jews.” Jesus hung on the cross for his final agonizing breaths [rejection] , a period that lasted
about six hours. During that time, soldiers cast lots for Jesus’ clothing, while people passed by shouting insults and scoffing rejection. From the cross, Jesus
spoke to His mother and the disciple John. He also cried out to his father, “My God, my God, why have You forsaken Me?”EVEN THE FATHER’S FINAL REJECTION.

JESUS’ LOVE NEVER WAVERED. . . AND EVEN RIGHT NOW, HIS LOVE CAN NOT CHANGE. HIS LOVE IS TO TO GREAT EVEN FOR ANYONE TO THINK IT IS NOT ALL ENCOMPASSING !

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” This is the ultimate reconciliation for all creation from the beginning of time to the end of time. . .

JESUS IS SO SO VALUABLE, SO WORTHY THAT NO ONE, NOT ANYTHING CAN SLIP THROUGH THE CRACKS. . . OR HIS SUFFERING AND VICTORY WOULD NOT BE COMPLETE! WOULD NOT BE PERFECT!

The world seems determined to put their two cents in, their finger in the pot to ruin the Perfect Work of God! There is only one thing for all creation to do . . . “just believe” !

Which is just simple trust in “THE FINISHED WORK OF CHRIST”.

Our world slices and dices Our God into small mouth size bites. . .into our own image and confusion.

Realize GOD AS ALL AND ALL. YOUR ALL AND ALL!

Solomon in great wisdom declares . . .

Proverbs 3 New Living Translation (NLT)
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
6 Seek His Will in all you do, and He Will show you which path to take.

It is simple trust, in your life itself, ”take a breath”, your very heart beat, that makes you thrive. Know it is God’s Life in you.

AS GOD IS YOUR VERY LIFE, YOUR VERY BREATH AND HEART BEAT . . . STAY THERE, IT IS ENOUGH, NO MORE NO LESS!
GOD WILL DO IT! IT IS ALL YOU LORD!

SONG- I tried to fit You in the walls inside my mind
I try to keep You safely in between the lines
I try to put You in the box that I’ve designed
I try to pull You down so we are eye to eye
When did I forget that You’ve always been the King of the world?
I try to take life back right out of the hands of the King of the world
how could I make You so small
when You’re the One Who holds it all
when did i forget that You’ve always been the King of the world
just a whisper of Your voice can tame the seas
so who am i to try to take the lead
still i run ahead and think i’m strong enough
when You’re the One Who made me from the dust GOLD DUST
When did i forget that You’ve always been the King of the world?
I try to take life back right out of the hands of the King of the world
how could i make You so small
when You’re the One Who holds it all
when did i forget that You’ve always been the King of the world
ooooo, You set it all in motion
    every single moment
You brought it all to me
and You’re holding on to me
when did i forget that You’ve always been the King of the world?
i try to take life back right out of the hands of the King of the world
how could i make You so small
when You’re the One Who holds it all
when did i forget You’ve always been the King of the world
You will always be the King of the world

YOU ARE THE TREASURE “WON” YOU ARE HIS VERY OWN !

  8. A very good reminder to us all’ “The King Of The World” Well done’

  9. Core things Christ accomplished in His suffering, death, burial and resurrection.
    1. Expiation
Expiation means the removal of our sin [ us, unable to see God] and guilt [ our condemnation(death) for offending God]. Christ’s death removes — expiates — our sin and guilt. The guilt [death] of our sin [unable to see God] [was taken away from us and placed on Christ, Who discharged it by His death. WE NOW CAN SEE GOD AND FREELY BEHOLD HIM THAT HIS JOY MAY BE MADE FULL IN US,
Thus, in John 1:29, John the Baptist calls Jesus “the Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world.” Jesus takes away, that is, expiates, our sins. Likewise, Isaiah 53:6 says, “The Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him,” and Hebrews 9:26 says “He has been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself,” [and remembers our sin no more].

    2. Propitiation
Whereas expiation refers to the removal of our sins, propitiation refers to the removal of God’s wrath [vindication for harm to what is Holy]. WE NOW CAN SEE GOD IN ALL FULLNESS AND HIGHEST VALUE, WHICH IS THE TRUEST OF LOVE AND NOTHING ELSE WILL SATISFY!
By dying in our place for our sins, Christ removed the wrath of God that God’s Law rightly demanded, in defense of Righteousness and Holiness. In fact, it goes even further: a propitiation is not simply a sacrifice that removes wrath, but a sacrifice that removes wrath and turns it into favor [we become what is Holy that God is defending] . (Note: a propitiation does not turn wrath into love — God already loved us fully, which is the reason He sent Christ to die; Christ’s work turns God’s wrath into favor so we recognize who we are . . . His very Own His treasure and [“apple of His eye”]. God’s love is realized for the very purpose of revealing the fullness of God. (Doing good to us every day, in all things, forever, that is His judgement, justice and holiness whish satisfies righteousness.) Likewise, Hebrews 2:17 says that Christ made “propitiation for the sins of the people” and 1 John 4:10 says “in this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

    3. Reconciliation
Whereas expiation refers to the removal of our sins, and propitiation refers to the removal of God’s wrath, reconciliation refers to the removal of our alienation from God [we realize we are the same- we are God’s very own by His very Life in us].
Because of our sins, we were alienated — [not able or willing to see God] — a stranger to God. Christ’s death removed this alienation and thus reconciled us to God. We can see now, with a heart for God and capcity to Love Him with all our heart, soul and might.
Romans 5:10-11: “For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.”

    4. Redemption
Our sins had put us in captivity [slaves to this world, chained by the lust of the flesh and its self aggrandizement] from which we need to be delivered. The price that is paid to deliver someone from captivity is called a “ransom.” To say that Christ’s death accomplished redemption for us means that it accomplished deliverance from our captivity through the payment of a price.
There are three things we had to be released from: the curse of the law, the guilt of sin, and the power of sin. Christ redeemed us from each of these.
    • Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law: “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law [ the law says“you must be Holy” ], having become a curse for us” (Galatians 3:13-14).
    • Christ redeemed us from the guilt of our sin. We are cleansed “justified as a gift by His grace, through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus” [ the law remains true by our redemption “returning us to Holiness” ] (Romans 3:24).
    • Christ redeemed us from the power of sin: “knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your fathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ” (1 Peter 1:18-19).
Note that we are not simply redeemed from the guilt of sin; to be redeemed from the power of sin means that our slavery to sin is broken. We are now free [to live to righteousness and holiness in the highest degree of the fullness of God]. “You have been bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your bodies” [for you are holy. . .God’s life and holiness in you] (1 Corinthians 6:20).

    5. Destryingf the Powers of Darkness
Christ’s death was a defeat of the power of other influences, thoughts ,intent and distractions away from God’s Love. “He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in Him” (Colossians 3:15). Christ takes away darkness from everyone, “ALL” who would believe, defeating all the powers of darkness in His death by, as the verse right before this says, “having forgiven US ALL our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This He set aside, nailing it to the cross” (Colossians 2:13-14). God’s Will is that ALL would believe. Who can stand up against God’s Righteousness?

    6. Dying As Our Substitute
The reality of substitution is at the heart of the atonement. Christ accomplished all of the above benefits for us by dying in our place — that is, by dying instead of us. All are in death (anti Christ’s- against God’s fullness of love) and He took our sin upon Him and paid the penalty Himself.
This is what it means that Christ died for us (Romans 5:8) and gave Himself for us (Galatians 2:20). As Isaiah says, “He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities . . . the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him” (Isaiah 53:5-6). BY HIS STRIPES WE ARE HEALED!
You see the reality of substitution underlying all of the benefits discussed above, as the means by which Christ accomplished them. For example, substitution is the means by which we were ransomed: “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28). Christ’s death was a ransom for us — that is, instead of us. Likewise, Paul writes that “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us” (Galatians 3:13).
Substitution is the means by which we were reconciled: “For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, in order that he might bring us to God” (1 Peter 3:18). It is the means of expiation: “He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him” BY HIM IN US (2 Corinthians 5:21) and “He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness” (1 Peter 2:24). And by dying in our place, taking the penalty for our sins upon Himself, Christ’s death is also the means of propitiation.

To close: Two implications. First, this is very humbling.
Second, “Greater love has no one than this, than he lay down his life for his friends” [highest value of “friend” expresses the highest love] (John 15:13).

    AND US FOR ONE ANOTHER
